Mr. John G. Sheffield
THOMSON, Ga.-Mr. John G. Sheffield, 82, beloved husband of Mrs. Lottie Pilgrim Sheffield, of George McDuffie Road, died Sunday, March 28, 2004 in Doctor's Hospital.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31, in Thomson First Baptist Church with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. officiating. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Mr. Sheffield was a native of Cedartown, Ga., but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was retired from Kingsley Mill. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. He was the Past Mayor of Willacoochee, Ga. He was a Mason, having been a Worshipful Master at the Masonic Lodge of Willacoochee. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class, of which he served as president for five years.

Survivors include his wife, Lottie P. Sheffield, Thomson; his daughter, Joanie Giddens, Pearson; two sons, John G. Sheffield, Jr., Evans and Max Brooks, Thomson; two godchildren, Sarah and Farrell McClelland Waycross; two sisters, Laura Nix, Macon and Nell McCranie, Willacoochee; a brother-in-law, Julian Pilgrim, Aiken; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews, Nick Sheffield, Joey Barrs, Randy Sheffield, Jim McCranie, Danny Pilgrim and Ronnie Pilgrim.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Men's Bible Class.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Viola Turner Bowick
Retired Seamstress
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Viola Turner Bowick, 82 of Thomson, Ga. entered into rest March 26, 2004 at Thomson Manor.
She was the beloved wife of the late John Ed Bowick and daughter of the late Pink T. Turner.

Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy and Joann Bowick of Thomson and James and Peggy Bowick of Atlanta; her daughter, Ann R. Williams of Greenville, S.C.; 14 Grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bowick was born in Wilkes County but had lived in Lincolnton most of her life before coming to Thomson in 1997. She was a retired Seamstress at Almar Manufacturing in Washington and a member of Goshen Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 28, 2004, at Goshen Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Danner officiating.

Mrs. Dorothy Buxton Coleman
Welder, Air Balance, Inc.
GIBSON, Ga.- age 47, of Steephollow Road died Tuesday morning March 23, 2004 at the residence of her daughter.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. March 25 at the Bethel Methodist Church, Glascock County with the Revs. Bill Daniel and Lonnie E. McCall, Sr. officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Coleman was a native of Burke County, and a spot welder with Air Balance, Inc. in Wrens. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Girard.

Survivors include two daughters, Crystal McCall, Mitchell, and Faith Ann Coleman, Augusta, three sons, Leon Coleman, Gibson, Allen Coleman, Thomson, and Tracy Coleman, Gibson, her father, Ben F. Buxton, Jr., Girard, her mother, Mildred Reddick Buxton, Sardis, one brother, Larry Buxton, Girard, and one sister, Kay Wilson, Perkins and 10 grandchildren. Pallbearers will be David Usry, Lonnie Wilson, Joey Welch, Billy Brasher, Mike Bailey, Larry Prickett, Lee Hobbs and Ricky Prickett.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hazel Reese Davis

GROVETOWN, Ga.- Mrs. Hazel Reese Davis, 73, entered into rest March 25, 2004, at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Davis was a native of Taliaferro County but had lived most of her life in McDuffie County and most recently in Columbia County. She was a member of Life Outreach Center in Grovetown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Davis, and was the beloved mother of three daughters, Vera (Raymond) Washington, Grovetown, Betty (Kenneth) Hall, Dearing, Jane (Randy) Carr, Tifton; and one son, Bob (Tracy) Davis, Seneca, S.C. She is also survived by two brothers, John and Babe Reese of Crawfordville, Ga. and three sisters, Verna Mae Nunn, Crawfordville, Mamie Higdon, Boneville, and Rosa Lee Wentz, Lithia Springs; eight grandchildren, Mitch Denham, Tifton, Amy Gay, Tifton, Jamie Davis, Greenwood, S.C., Leeann Davis, Easley, S.C., Daniel Washington, Grovetown, Matthew Washington, Harlem, Aaron Hall, Thomson, and Nathan Hall, Dearing; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Saturday, March 27, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Harlem Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Gary Little officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Road, Augusta, GA 30904.

Mrs. Mary B. Martin
WRENS, Ga. - Mrs. Mary B. Martin, 83, entered into rest March 23, 2004, at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 25, 2004, at Trinity Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bobby Atkinson officiating. Interment was in Wrens City Cemetery.

Survivors include her loving husband of 34 years, Harlin Martin, two daughters, Shirley (Donald) Freeman, Wrens; Ann (Lum) Littlepage, Nortonville, Ky.; three stepchildren, Doris Thompson, Hephzibah; Laurie Ramsey, N.C.; Mildred Baumer, Calif.; one brother Gleman Brooks, North Augusta; four sisters, Willie Newsome, Zebina; Aslee Dixon, Fla.; Jewell Poss, Dearing; Dessie Posser, Tennille; four grandchildren, Gloria Eaves, Greenville, KY; Sherrie Johnson, Evans; Kenny Johnson, Wrens; Dalton Freeman, Wrens; three great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bill Perry, David Dye, Scott Smith, James Griswell, Paul Swint, and Peter Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 9346 Hwy. 1 North, Louisville, Ga., 30434.

Mrs. Earlis Lorine Jackson McNair
DEARING, Ga.- Mrs. Earlis Lorine Jackson McNair, 59, of Allen Rd. entered into rest Saturday, March 20, 2004, at the McDuffie County Hospital.
Mrs. McNair was a Warren County native and a member of the Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church.

Survivors are her husband, Henry J. McNair, Sr.; son, Michael McNair, Dearing; two daughters, Carolyn Jackson of Jonesboro, Loretta McNair of Aiken, S.C.; stepson, Henry McNair, Jr. of Irvington, N.J.; stepdaughter, Dr. Bernice M. Barnett of Champaign, Ill.; mother, Beatrice Casey; brother, Billy Frank Casey; stepmother, Eloise Jackson all of Dearing; two aunts; one uncle; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church and Cemetery, Warren County, Rev. George Glenn pastor, officiating.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jeannie Nay

THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Jeannie Nay, 87, widow of Mr. Benjamin Nay, died Friday, March 26, 2004, at the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 27, in the Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Edward O'Connor officiating. Burial was in Hampden, Maine.

Mrs. Nay was a native of Boston, Mass., but had lived in Thomson for several years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

Survivors include her two sons, Ralph Nay, Thomson, and Steve Nay, Peachtree City; a brother, Patrick Bossio; and two sisters, Laura Pizuto and Mary Jelly; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Barbara Craford Sallywhite
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Barbara Craford Sallywhite, of Crawford Avenue, Thomson, died Tuesday, March 16, 2004.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, 2004, at 2 p.m., at Paynes Baptist Church, Mesena, Ga., with the Rev. Lester Wood, officiating, with the interment in the Society cemetery in Mesena.

Crawford-Pinkston-Roberts Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Sheryl Ann Levesque Swain
THOMSON, Ga.- Ms. Sheryl Ann Levesque Swain, 34, beloved daughter of Walter and Connie Levesque of Whiteoak Road, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 27, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Marshall Baptist Church with Rev. Margaret Sharp officiating.

Ms. Swain was a native of Eugene, Oregon, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a caregiver and a member of the Agape Ministries.

Survivors include her parents, Walter and Connie Levesque, Thomson; her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and LuAnn Levesque, Dearing and two nephews, Kenan and Kendall Levesque, both of Dearing.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Tommy Williamson
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Tommy Williamson, 26, beloved son of Mrs. Sally Williamson Jones of Jean Road, died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at his residence.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Charlie Deloach officiating.

Mr. Williamson was a native of Richmond County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Sally and Bobby Jones, Thomson; two step-sister, Kathy Baldazo and Debbie Moon, both of Thomson; a step-brother, Steven Scott Jones, Thomson; his maternal grandparents, Duke and Alburia Williamson, Hephizibah; his aunt and uncle, Tracy and Mark Jackson; and his cousins, Caleb, Kyle, Heather, Tyler and Madison.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nettie E. Baker

MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mrs. Nettie E. Baker, age 85, of Martinez, entered into rest on Monday morning, March 15, 2004 at University Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of the Augusta/Martinez area, she had been a longtime and devoted member of Central Christian Church where she was a member of the Helping Hands Program, the Willing Workers Class, the Golden Age Club and the Senior Citizens at Doctors Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, J. B. Baker, who passed away in 1978.

She is survived by: two sons, Bobby Baker and his wife, Barbara, Lincolnton, Ga.; Gene Baker and his wife, Sandra, Martinez; one daughter, Glenda Widener and her husband, Paul, Bath, S.C.; two sisters, Virginia Graham, Evans, Earline Crosby, Dearing; eight grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 17, 2004 from the Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, with Rev. James James officiating. Interment was in Westivew Cemetery.

Pallbearers were grandchildren; Jimmy Baker, Tommy Baker, Andy Baker, Greg Baker, Richard Baker and Jack Blythe. Honorary Pallbearers were grandchildren, Selina Baker, Teri Finch and Sandy Blythe.

Mr. Fred E. Butler
DOUGLAS, Ga.- Mr. Fred E. Butler, age 97, of Douglas, passed away Monday, March 15, 2004, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Mr. Butler, a native of Gwinnett County, had lived in Bacon County, Jeff Davis County and Douglas, Coffee County area for many years.

He was the son of the late James Thomas Butler and the late Sarah Frances Thurman Butler and husband of the late Lola Malloy Butler Butler.

He was a retired rancher. Mr. Butler was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two daughter, Rachael Evelyn Byrd of Macon and Anna Ruth Dorn of North Augusta; four sons, Ronnie Wayne Butler Sr. of North Augusta, Roy Jack Butler of Dearing, Larry Butler of Hazlehurst, and Kennon Frederick Butler of Baxley; 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Thursday morning, March 18, 2004, at 10 a.m., at the chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Rutledge officiating. Interment was in the Douglas City Cemetery.

Ricketson Funeral Home of Douglas was in charge of arrangements.
