Mrs. Gladys Messer Keller
THOMSON, Ga. - Entered into rest Monday, December 29, 2003, at the Doctors Hospital, Mrs. Gladys Messer Keller, 60, wife of the late Mr. Thomas Keller.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2003, at the Grace Baptist Church, Camak, with the Rev. Bill South officiating. Interment was in Westview Cemetery, Thomson.

Mrs. Keller, was a native of Waynesville, N.C., and a member of Grace Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Hugh Murphy, Thomson; one daughter, Chris Kelly Thomas, Bailey, N.C.; one step-daughter, Katina Duke, Langley, S.C.; three brothers and three sisters; and four grandchildren.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Alma Howell Oliphant
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Alma Howell Oliphant, age 72, entered into rest Wednesday Dec. 31, 2003 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Wrens with Revs. Allen Holbrook and Ken Garvin officiating. Burial was in the Wrens Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Oliphant was a native of Burke County and a retired sales clerk at Western Auto, Thomson and a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Thomson.

Survivors include the father of her children, Jack B. Oliphant Sr., Matthews; four sons Jack Oliphant Jr., Thomson, Billy Oliphant, Grovetown, Tommy Oliphant, Warrenton, and David Oliphant, Thomson; two daughters Barbara Hefner and Dianne Norris, both of Thomson; two brothers Hayden Howell, Sparta and Henry Howell, Vienna; two sisters Carol McDonald of North Augusta S.C., and Rea Davis, Wrens; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mike Oliphant, Brian Oliphant, Alan Oliphant, Zack Norris, Joshua Hefner, Brandon Davis, Wayne Davis, Jr. and Barry McDonald,Jr.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2623 Washington Rd, F-104, Augusta Ga., 30904.

Mr. Calvin T. Street
DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Calvin T. Street, 77, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Windermere Nursing Facility in Augusta.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004 at the Thomson Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, with Mr. Leon Gentry officiating. Burial was in the Kingdom Hall cemetery in Dearing.

Pallbearers were Marion Reid, Daryl Reid, Moses Williams, Mark Baker, Ray Guarno and Johnnie Williams.

Mr. Street, a native of McDuffie County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Truman and Sally Whitaker Street. He retired after 18 years of service as a Maintenance Mechanic with the Columbia County Board of Education. He was a member of the Thomson Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Harwell Street and is survived by one son, Freddy T. Street, of Augusta; two sisters, Margie Reid of Thomson and Martha Bailey of Dearing; two brothers, T.W. Street of Augusta and Eugene Street of Dearing; three grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Curtis Funeral Home in Thomson was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Norman Shelton Tester
ALBANY, Ga. -- Mr. Norman Shelton Tester, 66 of 1535 Webb Street, Albany, Ga. died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at Matthews Funeral Home with interment in the Floral Memory Gardens. The Dr. Ronald R. Baxley officiated.
Mr. Tester was a native of Thomson where he graduated from Thomson High School in 1955 and then joined the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduation. He served in Okinawa and then was stationed in Albany, Ga. After leaving the Marines, he worked at the Marine Corps Logistic Base for 30 years. He had been retired for the past 11 years. He was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and was active in all aspects of the church. He also started and taught the RA's program at Putney Baptist Church in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Hartsfied Tester of Albany; two sons, Randy Dewayne Tester and his wife Elizabeth and Michael Ross Tester , all of Albany; a sister and brother in law, Mary Ruth Tester Trivett and Eli Trivett of Thomson; a stepbrother, Jack Arrington of Wrens; stepson Tommy Hartsfield (Sharon) of Mitchell County; two stepdaughters, Debbie Harrell and Cheryl Suggs (Richie) of Mitchell County; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Caitlin Tester, Albany; Kelli Hartsfield, Christopher Highsmith, Nichole Hartsfield, Sabrina Lynn, Chrisse' Harrell, Adam Harrell and Brandon Harrell; a great granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Harrell; four sisters-in-law, Helen Tester of Johnson City, Tenn. Pat Howard of Stockbridge, Betty Wingate of Norcross, and Barbara McDonald of Albany; several nieces, Christine Tester Knighton of Plano, Tex.; Sherry Trivett Neal of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Ruth Tester McNabb of Unicoi, Tenn., Vickie Tester Wilkins of Grovetown, Nancy Trivett of Thomson, Gay Tester Friday of Gray, TN, Linda Trivett Josey of Waynesboro, Ga.; one nephew, Jackie Arrington of Virginia and a number of great nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Carol Anita Hill Rodgers
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mrs. Carol Anita Hill Rodgers of Bleakley Street entered into rest Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003 at the Medical College of Georgia. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Gordon Thomas officiating. Burial was in Walker Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rodgers was a native of Augusta. She was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Board, Willing Workers, Gospel Choir, Bible Study Class, and Sunday School. She was employed as a supervisor at Motel 6.

Survivors are two daughters, Deidre Kitchens, Augusta, Robbie (Johnny) Best, Jonesboro, Ga.; three brothers, Calvin Hill and Gerald Hill, Atlantic City, N.J., Willie Hill, Jr., Thomson; one sister, Carol Hill, Thomson.; four granddaughters, Anntionette Kitchens, Tiffany Rodgers, Rotesha Best, Shaquella Best; two great-granddaughters, Lata'sha Walker and Jhasyia Kitchens, and four aunts and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mr. John Sherwood Clements, Jr.
Retired Real Estate Professional
THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. John Sherwood Clements, Jr., of 361 Folkstone Circle, Augusta, Ga. entered into rest Dec. 24, 2003 at the University Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Mary Frances Page Clements. Survivors include wife, Mary Frances Page Clements, Augusta, Ga.; son John Sherwood Clements, III, Thomson, Ga.; daughter, Mary Page Clements, Unionville, New York; sister, Betty Clements Hilburn Macon, Ga. . Mr. Clements was preceded in death by a son, John Clements.

Mr. Clements grew up in the Valdosta, Ga. area and lived in Thomson for 40 years. He attended North Georgia College and Graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. Mr. Clements served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, was a retired Real Estate Professional and Chairman of the McDuffie County Tax Assessors Board for 28 years. He was also a member of the Augusta Appraisal Council, Classic South Board of Realtors, member of First United Methodist Church, member of the Hasan Shrine Temple and an Eagle Scout.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Darrell Wells officiating.

Pallbearers were Thomas Lovelace, William Eades, Boone Knox, Jack Smith, Ed Baron, Buford Joiner, Joe Wills, and Douglas Pentecost.

Memorials may be made to the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Home, P. O. Box 1000 Stockbridge , Ga. 30281-9878.

Mr. Wesley B. Colclough, Jr.
Retired Department Manager, Sears and Roebuck
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Entered into rest Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at his residence, Mr. Wesley B. Colclough, Jr., 83, husband of Mrs. Eugenia Burgamy Colclough. Graveside services were at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003 at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Gregg Hatfield officiating.
Mr. Colclough was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He retired from Sears and Roebuck as a department manager. Mr. Colclough was a veteran of WW II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was a member of the Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church.

Additional survivors include two sons, Wesley Benjamin Colclough, III and his wife, Carol, of Thomson, and Carlton Burgamy Colclough of Augusta; three daughters, Cathryn Colclough Burke and her husband, Pete, of Lincolnton, Carlene Colclough Pilgrim, of Thomson, Roxane Colclough Keeney and her husband, Burt, of Lexington, S.C.; one sister, Elizabeth Hill, of Evans; 10 grandchildren, Wes Colclough, Niki Williams, Casey Colclough, Tye Colclough, Ricky Crowe, Leigh Myhand, Chrissy Rhoden, Bethany Keeney, David Pilgrim, Jr., Abigail Keeney, and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Hospice, 2260 Wrightsboro Rd., Augusta, Ga. or to the Leukemia Foundation, 2625 Cumberland Pkwy., Suite # 205, Augusta, Ga., 30339.

Pallbearers were Carlton Colclough, Leonard Hill, Wes Colclough, Casey Colclough, Tye Colclough, Ricky Crowe, and David Pilgrim, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Thompson, Charlie Brown, Burt Keeney, Pete Burke, Reginald Hill, Dr. Robert Johnson.

Mr. Robert 'Bob' Roper
Volunteer Director of We Care
THOMSON, Ga.- Mr. Robert 'Bob' Roper, 76, widower of Mrs. Mary Roper, of Hillcrest Drive, died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 in the McDuffie Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 in the Thomson First Baptist Church, with Rev. Butch Baston and Father Edward O'Connor officiating.
Mr. Roper was a native of Akron, Ohio, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a retired Postal Worker and had served as the Voluntary Director of 'We Care' for over 10 years. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran. He was a member of Thomson First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and he was actively involved with the Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary and a son, Robert Stephen. He is survived by four daughters, Rebecca Jewell, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Susan McMillan, Appling, Ellen Roper, Newburgh, Ind., and Laurie Harmon, Augusta; his son, Jim Roper, Brazil; and three grandchildren, Lean Walls, Michael Jewell, and Stephen Harmon.

Mrs. Mary Agnes Wells
WRENS, Ga.- Mrs. Mary Agnes Wells, 81, of Wrens, entered into rest Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003 at her residence. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Willie L. Jones officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Warren G. Wells; four daughters, Mozelle Seabrooks of Brooklyn, N.Y., Shirley Simms, Agnes Delois Stone, and Cynthia Wells, all of Wrens; two sons, Jimmy Wells, Wrens, and Herman Wells, Atco, N.J.; brothers, Willie Herber Smith of Stapleton and Willie Albert Smith of Thomson; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Jacqueline Ann Lewis
HARLEM, Ga.- The funeral service for Jacqueline Ann Lewis, 52, who died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003 was held Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Second Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Harlem, Ga. at 2 p.m. with Rev. Henderson Roberson, Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, Leon Lewis, Maurice (Theresa) Frazier and Mario Frazier; mother, Alveda Lewis; sisters and brothers, Andrew (Juanita) Lewis, William (Debra) Lewis, Steve (Natasha) Lewis, Velveda Kay (Steven) Fletcher, and Sharon Denise (Anthony) King; three grandchildren, Kevvin Lewis, Quazilaon Lewis, and Maurice Frazier, Jr.

Retired Sheet Metal Worker
DEARING, Ga. - Mr. Billy R. Huff, Sr., 62, beloved husband of Mrs. Joy Lampp Huff, of Mitchner Road, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, in the University Hospital. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial was in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Huff was a native of Warren County, but had lived in McDuffie County for the past 21 years. He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of the Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. The family said he was a loving and wonderful husband and father and was richly loved by all his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ola Maude Huff; a sister, Laverne Huff Johnson; and a brother, Shelton Huff, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Joy Lampp Huff, Dearing; a daughter, Kathy (Ken) Huff Banks, Warrenton; a son, Billy R. Huff, Jr., Thomson; two goddaughters, Lisa Perry Anderson and Bobbi Marie Perry, both of Anchorage, Alaska; his brother, Thomas Huff, Stapleton; two mother-in-laws, Brunis H. Benson, Dearing and Florence Bennett Lampp, Alma; an aunt, Shirley Morris, Appling; a sister-in-law, Marie Perry, Dearing; a loving nephew and niece, Andy and Betty Huff, Stapleton; four grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Lonnie Morris, Jr., Kenneth Huff, Irvin Hillman, Eldridge Hillman, Hugh Hobbs, Morris McTier, Chuck Moye, Dr. George Havrilla, Ken Banks, Jr., and Kenneth Banks, Sr.

Mrs. Blanca Lydia Pedraza

AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mrs. Blanca Lydia Pedraza, 77, of Claudia Dr., entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph Hospital Catholic Church on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003 at 10 a.m. Burial was at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Mr. Vicente Pedraza of Augusta; two sons, Vicente Pedraza, Jr., Wilmington, N.C. and Hector M. Pedraza, Goldsboro, N.C.; three daughters, Lydia M. Harris, Grovetown, Maria T. Fountain and Jacqueline M. Cleveland, both of Thomson; one brother, Roberto Torres, Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Marina Torres, Martinez, Caguas, Puerto Rico; 34 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

A native of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Mrs. Pedraza has been a resident of Augusta since 1963. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a devoted wife and mother.

Mr. Bobbie Charles Davis
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Mr. Bobbie Charles Davis, 45, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in Cleveland.
The Millen, Ga.-native made his home in Cleveland for more than 25 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Yvonne Davis, Cleveland; mother, Mrs. Bonnie Dean Davis Cook, Millen; step-father, Mr. Ezekiel Cook, Thomson; siblings, Marvin, James, and Christine Davis, Susie Branch, Barbara Richardson, and Lavern Johnson.

Services were held Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Morrison Grove Baptist Church of Millen.

Mrs. Carolyn Doster
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Carolyn Doster, age 81, wife of the late Samuel Lee Doster, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003 at Thomson Manor. Funeral services were private.
Mrs. Doster was a native of Milledgeville, but had lived much of her life in Claxton. She wave a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was a retired nurse and homemaker. Mrs. Doster was a member of the First Baptist Church, Thomson.

Survivors include her son, Samuel Doster, Newnan; her sister, Mrs. Harriette Lovelace, Thomson; two grandchildren, Samantha Doster, Will Doster, both of Newnan.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
