AUGUSTA, Ga.- Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Lizzie Coppet, 67, of Augusta, were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Newberry Baptist Church, Augusta, Rev. Cleve Garrison, officiating. Interment was in the Walker Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors are her father, Johnny Hampton; seven daughters, Velma Taylor, Thomson, Dianne Lott, Norcross, Shirley Wilcher, Angela Deloach, Janice Wilcher, Grace Scott and Elizabeth Stanley, all of Augusta; four sons, Johnny Wilcher, Michael Wilcher, Ricky Wilcher and Ronald Wilcher, all of Augusta; six sisters, Joyce Ford, North Augusta, S.C., Loretta Frazier, Hinesville, Ga., Ann Dorsey, Johnnie Lee Hampton, Mary Hampton and Sandra Hobbs, all of Augusta; four brothers, Johnny Hampton, Jr., Colorado Springs, Joseph Hampton, Sr., Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Larry M. Carter and Lawrence J. Carter, both of Augusta; 39 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Wylene Harris
THOMSON, Ga. -- Funeral services for Mrs. Wylene Harris, 78, of Thomson, were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Williams Grove Baptist Church, Warren County, Rev. Golden Lott, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors are her mother, Mrs. Mildred Lee Moss, Thomson; six children, Henry L. Curry, Philadelphia, Pa., Pauline Porter, Atlanta, Jesse Jones, Mildred Hanson and Barry Harris, all of Thomson, Gloria Holmes, Louisville, Ga.; four sisters, Catherine Jacobs, Zenora Haywood and Fannie Story, all of Thomson, Ga., Odessa Youngblood of Atlanta; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shelby Jean Jones Henderson

FT. WALTON BEACH, Fla.- Mrs. Shelby Jean Jones Henderson, 56, of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., entered into rest October 9, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of William Rush Henderson.
Survivors include husband, William Rush Henderson, Ft. Walton Beach; mother, Frances Biggerstaff Jones, Warrenton; sisters, Kathy Jones Law, (Wayne) Thomson, Sandra Jones King (Wesley) Appling; son, John Henderson, Ft. Walton Beach; daughters, J'Ann Whitley, Destin, Sharon La Pine, Lexington, Ky.; grandson, Paul Henderson.

Mrs. Henderson was born in McCormick, S.C., and was the daughter of Frances Biggerstaff Jones and the late James Ellis Jones. She lived in Ft. Walton Beach for over 20 years, coming from Columbia County, Ga.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Rev. Larron Pilgrim officiating.

Ms. Frances "Gran" Holliday
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Ms. Frances "Gran" Holliday entered into rest Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at University Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Greater Young Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Gilbert Howard officiating. Burial was at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery, Appling.

Ms. Holliday, a native of McDuffie County, was a member of Fielding Spring Baptist Church.

Survivors are three grandchildren, Morris (Cynthia) Holliday, Conway, S.C., Reginald (Vicky) Roberts, Augusta, Linda Roberts, Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Ethel Paschal, Thomson; six grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one nephew and one niece.

Mrs. Cecilia Wilson Johnson

THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Cecilia Wilson Johnson, age 84, of Thomson, formerly of Harlem, died Monday, October 4, 2004 in the Warrenton Health and Rehab Center.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mark Taylor and Rev. Dan White officiating. Burial followed in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Tellman Hamlet and Lydia T. Murph. She was a homemaker and a member of Grove Baptist Church in Grovetown.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by two husbands, Marion Allen Wilson and Joseph Jackson Johnson and one sister, Alice Johnson and is survived by daughter, Parniece (Julius) Dozier of Appling; two step-sons, Stephen (Linda) Wilson of Bristol, Tenn., Charles (Patty) Johnson of Harlem; grandchildren, Dede (Mike) Fowler of Appling, Debbie (George) Carn of Appling; great-grandchildren, Brandy Volner, Christina Carn, Jonat han Carn, Davis Fowler, all of Appling; brother, Bobby C. Murphy of Cross Hill, S.C.; sisters, Lois M. Burney of Sacramento, Calif., Elizabeth Gowan of Roebuck, S.C., Jeannette Robinson of Spartanburg, S.C. and Ruby Bishop of Roebuck, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Linda Seber Judkins
GROVETOWN, Ga.- Mrs. Linda Seber Judkins, 55, wife of Mr. Charles Judkins, of Huntington Dr., Grovetown, Ga. entered into rest Sunday September 26, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, 2004, at the Harlem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Vest officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Augusta, Ga.

Mrs. Judkins, a native of Niagara Falls, New York, was a homemaker and a member the Eastern Star, and a past member of the Betty Lamkin Homemaker Club. She was also a member of the Dave Sargent Sunday School Class and the Harlem United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Charles Judkins; two daughters , Tanya Akins, Thomson, and Samantha Rickerson, Grovetown; one son, Stephen L. Judkins, Grovetown and three grandchildren, Jon Rickerson, Stephanie Rickerson, and Alex Akins.

Pallbearers were Jon Rickerson, Paul Kirkland, Wayne Kirkland, Danny Rickerson, James Kirkland, and Kurt Bruntley.

Rev. Grady Doyle King

WARRENTON, Ga.- Rev. Grady Doyle King, 57, beloved husband of Dianne Evans King, of Warrenton, entered into rest Thursday, October 7, 2004 at University Hospital in Augusta.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Long Creek Baptist Church, Warrenton with Brother Chad Crews officiating. Burial followed the services in the church cemetery. Rev. King was a native of Greenwood S.C., a graduate of Greenwood High School and Luther Rice Seminary of Jacksonville, Fla. He was Pastor at Long Creek Baptist Church, and taught the Young Couples Class there. He had served as pastor of First Baptist Church of Broxton, Ga., and Moniac Baptist Church of Moniac, Ga., and Associate Pastor of Woodlawn Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Fla. He also was a Pre-need Counselor for Elliott's Funeral Home in Augusta.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne E. King of Warrenton; two daughters, Kelli King Brooker (Scott) of Douglas, Ga., and Lindsay King Crews (Chad) of Augusta; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grady King of Greenwood, S.C.; one sister, Patsy Noffz of Rock Hill, S.C.; and one grandchild, Kara Miller of Douglas, Ga.

Pallbearers were Ray Toulson, Sammie Toulson, Larry Johnson, James Johnson, Joe Smallwood, Bennie May, Johnny Wilkerson and Billy Hobbs. Honorary pallbearers were Adult Men's Sunday School Class and the Deacons of Long Creek Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Long Creek Baptist Church, C/O Cathy Cooper, 1317 Baker Road, Mitchell, Ga., 30820 or to The Gideon's Foundation, C/O Mr. B. Lewis Johnson Sr., 481 Morris Rd NE, Thomson, Ga. 30824.

Mr. William Chamberlain Leverett
Retired Banker, Community Servant
THOMSON, Ga.- Memorial services for Mr. William Chamberlain Leverett, 85, of Thomson, were conducted on October 13, 2004 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Thomson.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 55 years, Georgia Fae Nichols Leverett; parents, George C. and Kate (Chamberlain) Leverett; brother, George C. Leverett of Lincolnton and sister, Mary Leverett Poucher of Ocala, Fla.

His presence will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his daughter and son-in-law, Julia and Clifford G. Lunceford of Thomson; grandsons, William Leverett Lunceford, his wife, Meredith, of Williamsburg, Va. and Patrick Austin Lunceford of Thomson; his sister, Kathryn Leverett Dawkins of Lincolnton, and devoted friend, E.V. Morgan.

A native of Lincolnton, he began his banking career as a teller shortly after graduating from high school in 1936 at Farmer s State Bank. At the age of 21, he was named assistant cashier. He enlisted in the United States Army at the beginning of World War II and served as staff sergeant with the 687th Ordnance Ammunition Company. His tour of duty was in Italy and North Africa. He re-entered the banking profession upon his return to the States in 1945.

In 1946, he came to Thomson as assistant cashier with First National Bank of Thomson. His employment with First National Bank was to last 40 years. He was elected president of the bank in 1969. In 1982, he began the formation of First Thomson Bancorp, a holding company that owned First National Bank of Thomson and later merged with Trust Company Bank of Augusta. Mr. Leverett retired from Trust Company Bank of Augusta, Thomson Division, in 1986. His dedication to community and service to others led him to participate in numerous civic organizations and political offices.

Mr. Leverett was one of the original founders of the Thomson Ten Sixties, which later became the Development Authority of McDuffie County. He served on the Thomson City Council for a two-year term followed by a 10-year term as Mayor of Thomson from 1965-1975. He served as Treasurer of the McDuffie County Hospital Authority from 1968-1977 and served as chairman from 1978-1984. In 1984, he was named a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow for community service. He was awarded the 1984-1985 Governor's Volunteer Award for the State of Georgia. He served on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Bankers Association, served on the Agricultural Committee of the Georgia Bankers Association and was a former member of the Executive Council of the Georgia Bankers Association.

Mr. Leverett was a former contact banker for the American Bankers Association; former member of the Advisory Board for the Regional Administration of National Banks of the Sixth National Bank Region which included Georgia, South Carolina and Florida. He was a former member of the State Advisory Board of Agricultural Vocational Education; former director and chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Industrial Development Committee as well as a former director and second vice president of the Thomson McDuffie Chamber of Commerce. He was formerly a member of the Thomson Kiwanis Club and a member of the Committee of 100 in Augusta, as well as a former representative on the CSRA Planning and Development Commission. He also served on the Little River Soil and Water Conservation District Board. Mr. Leverett previously served on the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Thomson, First Thomson Bancorp, Trust Company Bank of Augusta and the Bank of Wadley. Currently he was serving as an Honorary Director of SunTrust Bank, Augusta and the Queensborough Company of Louisville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Music Department or McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Ms. Georgia Ann McCord
LINCOLNTON, Ga.- Ms. Georgia Ann McCord entered into rest on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Lake Crossing Health Center.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 2 p.m. at White Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton Edwards officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Ms. McCord was born on May 16, 1927 in Lincoln County. She was a sewing machine operator at Finkel Outdoor Co. in Passaic, N.J., for 16 years.

Survivors are one sister, Helen McCord Wright, Lincolnton; one brother, Melvin McCord, Appling; grandchildren, Justin (Juanita) McCord, Thomson, Bruce McCord and Sheronda (Jonathan) Elam, Lincolnton; one brother-in-law, Roy Beard, Sr., Lincolnton.

Mr. Kenneth Miller
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mr. Kenneth Miller, 91, beloved husband of Mrs. Helen Miller, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 8, in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jim Ramsey officiating.

Mr. Miller was a native of Omaha, Neb., but had lived in Thomson for several years. He was retired from the Wilson Packing Company. He was a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Helen Miller, Thomson; a daughter; four sons; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mr. Larry James Rogers
THOMSON, Ga. -- Mr. Larry James Rogers, 55, died Monday, October 4, 2004 at his residence in Thomson.
Mr. Rogers, a native of McDuffie County, was a member of Thankful Baptist Church in Glascock County. He was a 1967 graduate of R.L. Norris High School, Thomson, Ga. Served in the U.S. Army, Veteran of Vietnam and was employed with Rinker Materials Dogwood Quarry in Grovetown, Ga.

Survivors include one daughter, Michelle Rogers of Thomson; one grandchild, Ny'keria Rogers of Thomson; mother, Mrs. Louise Rogers of Thomson; one sister, Robbie Norris of Thomson; one brother, Bobby W. Rogers of Thomson and a host of uncles, aunts and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 8, 2004 at 2 p.m. at First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, Ga. with Rev. Leroy Hudson presiding and Rev. Roscoe Perry officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery and the repast in the church fellowship hall.

Pallbearers and Flowerbearers were R.L. Norris class of 1967. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Rinker Materials Dogwood Quarry of Grovetown, Ga.
