THOMSON, Ga.- Mozell Owens Smith "Maw Maw," 77, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Friday at Overbrook Cemetery, Hwy. 221, McCormick, S.C.

Survivors include sons, Sterling 'Billy' Joseph Smith, Thomson, James 'Monroe' Smith, Gibson; daughters, LaVern Smith Nelson, McCormick, Odamae Hernadez, Wren, Minnie Jean Warner, North Augusta; sister, Inez Thomson; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph 'Bill' Sterling Smith and son, Milton Eugene Hobbs.

Strom Funeral Home was in charge.

Mrs. Effie Luke Gilmer
Thomson Co. Retiree
THOMSON, Ga.- Mrs. Effie Luke Gilmer, 82, widow of Mr. Wallace Gilmer, died Sunday, July 25, 2004, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Lawson officiating. Burial was in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilmer was a native of McDuffie County. She was retired from the Thomson Company. She was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Robert Easler, Terry Josey, Ronnie Easler, Timothy Easler, Steven Easler and Wayne Easler.

Mr. Adam Kent, Sr.
Retired Laborer
GIBSON, Ga.- Mr. Adam Kent, Sr., 58, of Gibson, entered into rest Sunday, July 25, 2004 at University Hospital, Augusta, Ga. He was the beloved husband of the late Glennis Reese Kent.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at Sallie Hill Cemetery, Warrenton, with Rev. Rob Bray officiating.

Mr. Kent was born in Glascock County to the late Watson Kent and Willie Bell Whitehead Kent. He had lived in Warren County several years. He was retired as a laborer. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Warrenton.

Survivors include two sons, Adam Kent, Jr., Ooltewah, Tenn. and Glenn Kent, Thomson; one daughter, Lynn Kent, Gibson; four grandchildren, Michael Kent, Chris Kent, Brandon Kent and Ivey Wren and two step-grandchildren, Lee Murphy and Jessica Murphy.

If desired, memorials may be made to Lowe Funeral Home, P. O. Box 488, Warrenton Ga. 30828.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Christopher "Crick" McZilkey
Heavy Equipment Operator
GIBSON, Ga.- Mr. Christopher 'Crickı McZilkey, 30, of Lampp Road, Gibson, entered into rest Monday, July 26, 2004 at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel U.M.C. with Rev. Sam Collins and Rev. Richard Kitchens officiating.

Mr. McZilkey was a native of Richmond County but lived in Glascock County most of his life. He was employed by Guthrie Grading and Hauling, Thomson. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Ann Lampp Marsh of Gibson and his father, Danny J. McZilkey of Harlem; one brother, Darrell McZilkey of Gibson and sister, Dawn Lampp of Gibson.

Pallbearers were Marlon Guthrie, David Guthrie, Larry Roshier, Billy Howard, Steve Hart and Willie Brett.

Mr. O.E. 'Pete' Purvis
Retired Farmer
STAPLETON, Ga.- Mr. O.E. 'Pete' Purvis, 85, beloved husband of Mrs. Cleo Purvis, died Saturday, July 3, 2004, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 5, 2004, in the Mount Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Sutphin, Russell Davis and Roy Frierson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Purvis was a native of Warren County, He was a retired farmer and had retired as a School Bus Driver from Warren County Schools after 28 years. He attended faithfully at Mount Beulah Baptist Church, where he was the church custodian for over 25 years. He was past Treasurer of the Purvis Lodge Woodmen of the World. He worked as a Volunteer at the Panhandle Volunteer Fire Department and helped get it started.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cleo Purvis, Stapleton; two daughters, Carolyn Smith, Mesena and Barbara Hobbs, Warrenton; two sons, Joey Purvis, Thomson and Ronnie Purvis, Athens; eight grandchildren, Brian Purvis, Brooke Purvis, Brent Purvis, Chris McGahee, Debbie Shugart, Jeff McGahee, Brad Hobbs and Jennifer Thigpen; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Sammy Purvis, Wilbur Purvis, Max Dixon, Sam Kitchens, Jr., Pilcher Thigpen and Mike McGahee.

Mrs. Helen Hair Wilson
THOMSON, Ga.­ Mrs. Helen Hair Wilson, of Thomson, entered into rest July 30, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Preston Y. Wilson, Sr.
Mrs. Wilson was a native of Oconee County, S.C., but had lived in Thomson since 1955 coming from Anderson, S.C. She was a member of Washington Heights Baptist Church, she was retired from McDuffie Regional Medical Center as a Practical Nurse.

Survivors include one son, Yates Wilson of Thomson; two daughters, Martha A. Gowan, St. Simons, Ga., Patricia L. Newsome, Thomson; one brother, Thomas L. Hair, Jr., Cape Coral, Fla.; one sister, Daphne Taylor, Anderson, S.C.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. One son preceeded her in death, Ronald Wilson.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at the Washington Heights Baptist Church with Revs. Reginald Blakewood and Sonny Peevy officiating. Interment, Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Jamie Stewart, Chris Stewart, Bill Gowan, Justin Wilson, Doug Edwards, Nobel Drake.

Memorial contributions may be made to Washington Heights Baptist Church Building Fund, 112 Old Washington Rd., Thomson, Ga. 30824.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ola Mae Bokknight
AUGUSTA, Ga.- Mrs. Ola Mae Bokknight, entered into rest on Monday, July 19, 2004 at the St. Joseph Hospital.
The funeral service was held Saturday, July 24, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin L. McRae officiating. Burial was in Walker Memorial Park.

Mrs. Bokknight was a native of Thomson, and a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, she was a member of the Sunday School, F.F. Cook Choir, Deaconess Board, Noon Day Bible Study, Auxiliary of the American Legion Post 505. A former employee of Ft. Gordon Cleaners after 25 years of service, she was a volunteer at the Medical College of Georgia.

Survivors are her husband, Johnny Bokknight, Sr., Augusta.; five daughters, Martha Mills, Fla., Covenia (Herbert) Rouse, Martinez, Rosalind B. Williams, Augusta, Jackie B. (Chester) Woods, Evans, Michelle B. Meminger, Augusta; three sons, Michael (Jannie) Bokknight, S.C., L. J. McClendon, Macon, Johnny (Cassandr a) Bokknight, Jr.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Miss Velma Chafin
NORWOOD, Ga.- Miss Velma Chafin of Norwood entered into rest July 20, 2004 at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
The funeral was held Thursday, July 22, 2004 at 10 a.m., at Norwood Cemetery, Norwood Ga., with Bob Warren officiating.

Miss Chafin was a native of Warren County, daughter of the late Eula Chapman Chafin and Thomas Lee Chafin. She was a member of Williams Creek Baptist Church and a retired nurse at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Atlanta.

Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Nina Chafin Jones, Thomson; one niece, Sara C. Jackson, Warrenton Ga.; and three nephews, William V. Chafin, Jr., Hartwell Ga., Thomas Lee Chafin, Virginia Beach Va., and Robert B. Chafin, Jr., Sharon Ga.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Williams Creek Baptist Church, c/o Margaret Wilde, 676 Firetower Rd., Norwood Ga., 30821.

Mrs. Allene Coxwell
Homemaker
WARRENTON, Ga. - Mrs. Allene Coxwell, age 93, entered into rest July 20, 2004 at Warrenton Health and Rehab Center.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, 2004 at Johnson United Methodist Church, with Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial followed at Johnson Cemetery.

Mrs. Coxwell was the daughter of the late Annie Parham Simons and Zack Simons and a native and lifelong resident of Warren County. She was the wife of the late Alton Brasher Coxwell. A daughter, June C. Smith, preceded her in death. Mrs. Coxwell was a member of Johnson United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women and the Adult Sunday School Class, and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Joe Coxwell of Thomson, and Johnny Mack Coxwell, Warrenton; three sisters, Marguerite English, Warrenton, Edith Hansen, Madison, and Clyde Garbutt, Brunswick; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ricky Smith, Ronald Coxwell, Brent Coxwell, Jack Gunn, Garry Simons, and Billy English.
