Mrs. Fannie Mae Thompson

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Fannie Mae Thompson, of Thomson, died January 5, 2008.

Services were held Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 1162 Harrison Rd., Thomson Ga. 30824. Brother James Gentry officiated.

Burial was in Dearing at Kingdom Hall Cemetery.

Robert "Bob" E. Nogai
U.S. Army Retired Master Sergeant
DEARING, Ga. - Retired MSGT Robert "Bob" E. Nogai , 61, beloved husband of 43 years to Mrs. Patsy Nogai, went to be with our Lord January 7, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008, at the Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Thomson, with Father Bill Williams officiating.

Mr. Nogai was born in Illinois and had retired as Master Sergeant from the U.S. Army, having served in Vietnam. He was the recipient of numerous military and civilian awards. He was also retired from the Civil Service and a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #6445.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Anthony "Tony" Nogai of Abbeville, SC; and two daughters, Angela Devlin and her husband William of Webster, MA and Anita Whiten, her husband George, and their son, Will of Abbeville, SC. He is also survived by one sister Lillian Giczewski, of LaSalle, Ill, and two brothers, Frank Nogai, of St. Paul, MN and Ron Nogai, of LaSalle, Ill.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Future Fisher House VA Medical Center in Augusta, Fisher House Foundation, 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, MD 20852 or The American Lung Association, 61 Broadway, New York, New York 10006.

Starling Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Charlotte O'Neal Cowins

THOMSON, Ga. - The funeral service for Mrs. Charlotte O'Neal Cowins, 90, Thomson, was held on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Springfield Baptist Church, Thomson, with the Rev. F. D. Favors officiating. Interment was in Sandy Grove A.M.E. Churchyard cemetery in Warrenton.

Survivors include: two daughters, Thelma (Leroy) Roberts and Barbara Hixson, all of Thomson, GA; three sons, Herman (Joyce) Cowins, Jr., Roy Melvin (Catherine) Cowins, all of Thomson and Rev. Roy Wilton (Betty) Cowins, Tulsa, OK; one sister, Daisy (Wade) Howard, Decatur; one brother, James (Jessie) Rogers, Atlanta; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ollie M. Harley

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Ollie M. Harley, 83, died Friday, March 14, 2008, in the Thomson Manor Nursing Home.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 16, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Mrs. Harley was a native of McDuffie County. She was a retired seamstress and was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Charleston, S.C.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Yearwood, Thomson, and Carolyn Killette, Charleston, S.C.; three sons, William Sexton Jr., Lake City, S.C., Jesse B. Sexton, Ladson, S.C., and Murray Gibson Sexton; one brother, Gene Luke; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Helen Dixon Washington

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Helen Dixon Washington, 67, was called home on Sunday morning and now resides with our Lord and Father in heaven.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel with Rev. George Webb officiating. Interment followed at 2 p.m. at The Gospel Chapel cemetery in Avera, Ga.

Mrs. Helen Dixon Washington was born in Avera, Ga., and was one of 12 children. She was a member of and baptized in The Gibson Church of God. She later attended Norris Chapel in Harlem.

Helen is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Vickie Washington Guay (Richard) and Mary Washington Fleming (Kevin); and one granddaughter, Heather Nicole Guay; and her beloved dog, Toogie. Survivors also include two sisters, Mrs. Edith Poteet and Mrs. Ann Williams (George); three brothers, Mr. Max Dixon, Mr. Lewis Dixon (Sherryl) and Mr. William Dixon (Mary); and two dear sisters- in-law, Mrs. Edna Dixon and Mrs. Charlotte Dixon Herbert; and many nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her late husband, Mr. Robert P. Washington; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas and Inez May Dixon; two sisters, Mrs. Mary May and Mrs. Betty Esgate; four brothers, Mr. Isaac Dixon, Mr. John Dixon, Mr. Bobby Dixon and Mr. Joseph Dixon.

Helen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many people whose lives she touched. She was a wonderful homemaker and an excellent cook. We will all miss you so very much. You were a wonderful Mother and friend. We will miss your beautiful smile and your great sense of humor. We love you, Mims.

Mrs. Edna L. Norris

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Edna L. Norris, wife of the late Maj. U.S. Army Ret. Samuel D. Norris, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at 11 a.m. in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Burch officiating.

Mrs. Norris was a native of Jefferson County and a member of the Burns Memorial United Methodist Church and the Christine Scott Circle.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Mickey Chamineak of Thomson, Rosemary and Billy Garrison of Augusta, Nancy and George Guy of Waynesboro, Charlie Andrews of Augusta: grandchildren, Brian Andrews and his wife Jen, Lyn Judson and her husband Jonathan, Rebecca Cates and her husband Daniel, Sam Guy, Ian Garrison ,Lauren Burroughs and her husband Billy, Josh and Ethan Chamineak, great-grandchildren, Stephen Andrews, James Cipely, Gauge Guy , Caroline Cates, Nathan Judson. Her sister, Virginia Rooks of Augusta, her sister-in-law, Alma Williams of Avera, numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Norris was also preceded in death by her daughter Dianne Andrews and her granddaughter Heather Ware.

Mr. James Edward Ward

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. James Edward Ward, 75, died April 7, 2008, at NHC Healthcare of North Augusta after an extended illness.

A native of Russell County, Va., he was the son of the late Frank and Ines Griffith Ward Phillips. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Spencer and Glen. Mr. Ward lived most of his life in Augusta, working for 20 years at Continental Can Company, eventually retiring after 10 years as a salesman for Augusta Mill Supply. He was a member of Fleming Baptist Church, a member of the Augusta and Thomson Shrine Clubs and a member of the Raysville Boat Club. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include daughter, Mandy Sparks and husband, Dwayne, of Augusta; daughter, Allison Camille Wilson and fiance, Mark Hutto, of North Augusta; two sisters, Mrs. Opal Baird and Mrs. Lockie Finney, both of Hampton, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Cole, Maddie and Sara, all of Augusta, and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Elmcroft of Martinez and NHC Healthcare for their comfort, support and excellent care during his illness.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Greenville, S.C. The family will have a private service in Tennessee.

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Doris C. Story, 80, widow of Mr. James R. Story, died Sunday, January 6, 2008, at her residence.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, in the Westview cemetery with Dr. James Ramsey officiating.

Mrs. Story was a native of Columbia County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Thomson First Baptist Church. She also was a devoted nursery worker for many years at the church. Mrs. Story was active in the McDuffie County Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Story, Thomson; a son, Jimmy Story, Morristown, Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Joyce Young, Thomson; three brothers, Mack Cartledge, Sr., Thomson, Jack Cartledge, Metasville, Lyndal Cartledge, S.C.; her mother, Mrs. Rubye Brown Miles, Thomson; two grandchildren, Jessica (Nick) Fitzgerald, Marietta, Jimmy Story, Marietta; two great-grandchildren, Christian Fitzgerald, Aiden Fitzgerald, both of Marietta; her nephews, Mack (Mary) Cartledge, Jr., Thomson, Jackie (Tonya) Young, Thomson, Jeffery Cartledge, Metasville, Mitchel (Paige) Cartledge, N.C., Chris (Jennifer) Cartledge, S.C., Gip (Lindy) Young Jr., Augusta; her nieces, Lisa (Butch) Matherson, Augusta, Sherry C. (Charles) Yow, N.C., Brenda Cartledge, Calif.; her great nephews, Mack Cartledge, III, Thomson, Jay Young, Thomson, Shane Matherson, S.C., Hanke Cartledge, S.C., Mathew Yow, N.C.; her great nieces, April Cartledge, Thomson, Karla Waters, Misty Hudson, Amanda Matherson, Jennifer McCarty, Jamie Cartledge, Hannah Cartledge; and her great- great-nephews, Carter Pigg, Price Waters, Blake Young.

Mr. John W. Arrington

BONAIRE, Ga. - Mr. John W. Arrington, 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home. Burial followed in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Pastor Clyde Johns officiated.

Mr. Arrington was born in Jefferson County to the late Monroe and Lillie Mae Taylor Arrington. He was a member of The Rain Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Arrington of Bonaire; children, Paul W. (Vickie) Arrington of Wrens, Max (Robin) Arrington of Matthews, Barry (Suzanne) Arrington of Thomson, Tim (Debbie) Jenkins of Warner Robins and Elaine (Kenneth) Lee of Noblesville, Ind.; siblings, Berry, Bud and Dan Arrington, Sara Wasden, Mildred Lee and Helen Odom; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Rain Church, Gunn Rd., Warner Robins, Ga. 31088.

Mr. Charlie Ferman Papa Gay

MATTHEWS, Ga. - Mr. Charlie Ferman Papa Gay, 69, the beloved husband of 40 years to Frances Stewart Gay and the son of the late Tommy Franklin Gay and Nora Mae Hobbs Gay, entered into rest Tuesday, January 1, 2008.

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 2 p.m. at James Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Chance and Rev. Tim Farrel officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Moriah Cemetery.

Mr. Gay was a native of Warren County. Mr. Gay was of the Baptist faith, he was retired from J. M. Huber Corp., after 26 years of service as a supervisor, and he was in the U.S. Army. Mr. Gay was a loving husband, father, and dedicated grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Gay; a stepson, Steve (Teresa) Arrington; a daughter, Anita (Dean) Maruca; two brothers, Edward (Betty Ann) Gay, Eugene (Estelle) Gay; three sisters, Dorothy Newsome, Doris Stewart, Alice Nutt; six grandchildren, Lee-Ann (Michael) Watson, Stephanie Arrington, Amber Maruca, Sarah Arrington, Megan Maruca, Trent Maruca; and a great-grandchild, Lauren Taylor Watson.

Pallbearers were Dan Arrington, Bob Barrow, Glen Bazemore, Ralph Jordan, Harvey McNair, Morris Hannah.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ms. Loretta Bloomer

WINFIELD, Ga. -Ms. Loretta Bloomer, 61, entered into rest on Saturday April 5, 2008, at the Pavilion at Brandon Wilde.

Services were private.

She was a graduate of Livermore High School and the University of Maryland, with a bachelor's degree in business. Ms. Bloomer retired from the Pentagon after 34 years of civil service with the U.S. government.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Deanna and Jeff Wicklund, Loudonville, NY; grandchildren Isabell Allison, Lila Allison and Ella Wickund; parents Harry and Dorothy Bloomer, Winfield; sisters and spouses, Geri B. and Thomas Deloughery, Tuscaloosa, Ala., Wilma B. and Daniel Hodgkins, Thomson; brother and spouse Harry D. and Doris Bloomer, Winfield; many loving nieces and nephews; aunts Loretta Salyers, Daleville, AL, Arlene Rau. -Bethlehem, Penn., Miriam Sorenson, Coopersburg, Penn., and Marjorie Fahnestock, Newark, Del..

Grateful thanks to all of Loretta's co-workers of 34 years for their comfort and support during her illness. Our loving thanks to the entire staff at the Pavilion at Brandon Wilde.

Ms. Williemenia Harris

GROVETOWN, Ga. - Ms. Williemenia Harris was born July 10, 1947, to the late Mr. and Mrs. John (Williemae) Benning in Appling. She departed this life on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Williemenia Harris (Nena) leaves to cherish her memories, five children, Adam Rolland of Grovetown, Carolyn (Lewis) Harris Johnson, Grovetown, Lisa (Steven) Ford, Yuba City, Calif., Jennifer (William) Harris Woods and Tyrone Harris, Grovetown; three sisters, Jannie Cullars, Appling, Francis (Frank) Dunn, Grovetown and Bertha Reid Tanksley, who preceded her in death; six brothers to include her fraternal twin, Johnny Rolland, Augusta, Luther Benning, Grovetown, John Benning, Jr., Thomson, Willie and Horace Curry, both of Clarks Hill, S.C., and David Rolland, Chicago, Ill., whom preceded her in death; Williemenia had a devoted friend in Mr. R.E. Harris; four devoted sisters-in-law, Elease (Willie) Kelly, Brenda (Charlie) Harper, Katherine Harris and Maude (Bobby) Marshall; eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 28, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Bellevue Memorial Chapel, Grovetown, with Rev. Roscoe Perry officiating. Interment followed in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Peoples Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
