THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Margaret Sue Phillips, 65, of Thomson, entered into rest March 20, 2008. She was the beloved wife of Tommy Phillips.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael Spivey, Scott Spivey, Tracy Phillips, Stacy Phillips, Russell Montgomery and Randy Griswell.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Edgefield, SC, and was the daughter of the late Eli Robinson and the late Nancy Adams Robinson. She lived in McDuffie County for 35 years and was a Baptist by faith.

Survivors include her husband: Tommy Phillips- Thomson; sons: Michael Spivey (Kathy) - Rockford, Ill., Timmy Spivey - Thomson, Scott Spivey (Lisa) - Thomson, Tracy Phillips (Kelly) - Lincolnton, and Stacy Phillips (Pam) - Thomson; daughters: Kay Douglas (Rob)- Augusta, And Jennifer Montgomery (Russell) - Stapleton; sisters: Polly Watson - Columbia, SC, Grace Derrick-Johnston, SC, Irene Hutcheson - Augusta, Mae Harrelson - Augusta; and 16 grandchildren.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Annie Pearl Walker Battle

WARRENTON, Ga. -Mrs. Annie Pearl Walker Battle, Warrenton, died March 29, 2008 at the McDuffie Regional Hospital in Thomson.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Warrenton. Rev. Dr. J.L. Hampton officiating. Interment was in the Union Star Cemetery.

Survivors include: three daughters, Ms. Willie Pearl Battle, Mrs. Phyllis Neal and Mrs. Mary Williams, Warrenton; one son, Tony Battle, Warrenton; 19 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, six sisters, five brothers, other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were by Dawson's Mortuary.

Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Tappan

THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Tappan, 92, of Thomson, formerly of Athens, entered into rest March 3, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Kerr officiating. Graveside services followed at 3:30 p.m. Oconee Hill cemetery in Athens.

Mrs. Tappan was born in Clarke County and was the daughter of the late Samuel Stone and the late Lenora Shy Stone. She was very active in PTO, the Home Demonstration Club and a volunteer for the Athens-Clarke County 4-H Club for many years. Mrs. Tappan was also a founding member of the Interstate Trailer Club and a member of First United Methodist Church in Athens.

Survivors include her daughter: Dot Cofer and her husband, Wendy of Thomson; grandchildren: Rhonwyn Fulcher, N. Augusta, David Fulcher, Athens, Katie Henthorn and her husband, Wade, Harlem, Hal Keller and his wife, Elaine, Harlem; great-grandchildren, Scottie Keller and Anna Keller.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Bible School or Honduras Mission P. O. Box 8, Thomson, GA 30824

Mr. Albert "Al" Clark

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Mr. Albert "Al" Clark, 76, of Stone Mountain, died March 4, 2008, after a six-month battle with cancer.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Geraldine Portwood Clark, formerly of Thomson; his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sandee Clark, grandson, Austin and granddaughter, Savannah, all of Woodstock; his daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Tim Norris of Avondale Estates; his sister-in-love, Leila Nunnally of Thomson.

Al was an all-star athlete at Buford High School. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1953, then served in the Navy until 1955. He was a teacher and coach at West Fulton High School from 1955 to 1957 and Clarkston High school, from 1958 to 1966. In 1966 he became the principal at Mountain Park Elementary School in Lilburn. After his retirement in 1983, Al enjoyed playing golf at Mystery Valley Golf Course where he was also a starter/marshal. Other hobbies Al shared with his wife included dealing craps and blackjack at casino parties, cooking and caring for their immaculate yard.

Interment services were held at Melwood cemetery in Stone Mountain on Saturday, March 8, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to Odyssey Healthcare, 2362 Lawrenceville Highway, Decatur, GA 30033, where Al and his family were cared for with love and respect.

Mr. Eddie "Bubba" Lowe, Jr.

THOMSON, Ga. - Memorial service for Mr. Eddie "Bubba" Lowe, Jr., 63, of Thomson, was held on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 3 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church, with the Rev. Luther Rogers, Jr., officiating.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral services for Mr. Gene A. Hill, 66, Thomson were held on Thursday, January 10, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Aldred C.M.E. Church in Warren County, with the Rev. George Glenn, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Faye Hobbs Dunn

DEARING, Ga. - Mrs. Faye Hobbs Dunn, 67, beloved wife of Mr. Marvin Dunn, entered into rest at her residence on Friday, January 4, 2008, after an extended illness.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 6, 2008, at Fort Creek Baptist Church with the Dr. Phil Bray and the Reverends Joe Dansby and Bill Seaman officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Dunn, a native of Dearing, was a homemaker. She was a member of Fort Creek Baptist Church and the Katie Harrison Sunday School Class.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Marvin Dunn; one son, Tony Dunn, Dearing; two daughters, Angie (Jimmy) Dunn Talkington and Michelle (Jim) Dunn Williams, of Thomson; one sister, Linda (Clarence) Hobbs Holliman, Dearing; grandchildren, Chris (Janet) Dunn, Florida, Candice Dunn, Florida, Michael Talkington, Jonathan Talkington, and Emily Greene, of Thomson; great-grandchildren, Ciera Cripten and Amber Sheppard; special niece, Jenny Thaxton; and caregivers, Mattie McCord and Shirley Wheeler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Rowena Hobbs; and brother, Rudy Hobbs.

Mrs. Maude James Beasley
Loving and Devoted Mother
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Maude "Nana" James Beasley, 76, of Thomson, entered into rest February 8, 2008, at Heartland Hospice. She was the beloved wife of the late Roy James and the late Clarence L. Beasley.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2008, at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Ferrell officiating. Interment followed in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers were Tommy Weathers, Wesley Bailey, Vic Pulliam, Donnie Hadden, Bobby Gene Hadden and Smokey Thames. Honorary Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons, Jeff Phillips, Steve Blount, Will Shelton, David Wilson, Jr., Josh and Jeffery Phillips, Adam and Leland Bazemore, Trey Neal, Devan Dawson and Trey Wilson.

Mrs. Beasley was born in Davisboro, Ga., but lived in McDuffie County most of her life. She was retired as a seamstress from Stapleton Garment Company with 29 years of service. She was also a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include: mother: Gladys Parrish, Stapleton; daughters: Faye Phillips, Waynesboro, Carol Weathers, North Augusta, Nena Blount (Pete), Thomson, Hilda Shelton, Lincolnton, and Janie Pulliam, Gibson; brothers, Frank (Buddy) Parrish, Stapleton, and Hubert (Buck) Parrish, North Carolina; sisters, Barbara Hadden, Thomson, Della Jones, North Augusta, Mary Peck, Augusta, Paulette Arrington, Keysville; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Ann James, her father, Henderson Key and a brother, Johnny Key.

Mrs. Alexis Noelle Colohan-Cannon Haworth

ST. MARY'S, Ga. - Mrs. Alexis Noelle Colohan-Cannon Haworth, 21, beloved wife of Matthew A. Haworth and beloved daughter of John and Jean Colohan-Cannon, entered into rest on April 6, 2008, at Shand's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

Alexis was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Augusta on February 10, 1987. She was living in St. Mary's, Ga., with her husband, a submariner with the United Stated Navy. Alexis graduated from Lakeside High School in 2005, where she was active in the chorus program; she even traveled to Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando, Fla., to perform with her school. Alexis attended Georgia Southern University and was a junior studying pre-law to hopefully one day follow in her mother's footsteps; however she was taking a year off of school to enjoy being a new wife.

Funeral services were held on Saturday April 12, 2008, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with The Rev. Michael Roverse officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.

Alexis was an amazing woman; to all that knew her she was smart, beautiful, strong and compassionate. She would think nothing of stopping on the side of the road to give someone in need her food or the jacket off her back. She was a gorgeous girl with the most amazing smile, her eyes would twinkle whenever she smiled and was happy. Alexis had a crazy laugh that was so infectious you couldn't help but to laugh along. She had an incredible love for animals and rescued her two "fur-kids" Popeye and Princess.

Alexis was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, "PopPop," Paul M. Colohan, Sr., her maternal aunt, Karen Colohan Cintron Courter and her mother-in-law, Paula Haworth.

Besides her loving husband and parents, Alexis is survived by her maternal grandmother, Virginia "Ginny" Colohan, Martinez; paternal grandparents, John L. and Maria Cannon, Verona, Italy; great grandmother Minne Lee Cannon, Cleveland, Miss.; father-in-law, Lindon Haworth, Jr., Augusta; grandfather-in-law Lindon Haworth, Sr, Clarks Hills, S.C.; brother-in -law and his wife, Joseph and April Haworth, niece Paula R. Haworth, Augusta; Aunts and Uncles: Cindy and James Bessman, Augusta; Paul and Cindy Colohan, Grovetown; Mike and Sue Colohan, Laurel, Md.; Steve and Alicia Colohan, Augusta; Rick and Susan Colohan, Thomson; Kelly and MaryAnn Colohan, Bloomfield, Mich; Anita and Richard Goodis, Augusta. Additionally, 15 first cousins and her "fur-sisters" Tyla and Harley and her "fur-brothers" Angel and Peanut as well as an extensive extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers or gifts the Colohan-Cannon Haworth Family asks that contributions be made to Lexi's Legacy, the Alexis Noelle Colohan-Cannon Haworth Scholarship Fund, c/o P.O. Box 212606 Martinez, GA 30917.

Mrs. Carrie Tanksley

APPLING, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Carrie Tanksley, 88, of Appling, was held on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 2 p.m. at the Canaan of Galilee Baptist Church in Appling, with the Rev. Robert Felton officiating. Interment was in the Second Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include a devoted daughter, Daisy Mae (Clarence) Broadwater, Appling; three sons, John D. (Angie) Tanksley and Cluse Tanksley, all of Appling and Leroy (Catherine) Tanksley, Augusta; two adopted sons, Tim (Sandra) Tanksley, Appling, and Eugene (Patsy) Tanksley, Lincolnton; a sister, Annie B. Dunn, Grovetown; five sisters-in-law; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including a dear sweet friend, Viola Durham.

Ms. Joyce Pratt Hopkins

GRIFFIN, Ga. - Ms. Joyce Pratt Hopkins entered into rest Wednesday, January 16, 2008. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Charles Thomas Hopkins, Sr.

Joyce was born in Macon, Ga., on July 15, 1924, to Parks Winfield Pratt and Emma Thomson Pratt. She was raised in Covington, Ga., and came to Griffin, Ga., in 1950 to teach the first graduating class of Spalding County High School. Joyce was a graduate of Auburn University, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority. She was a member of the Griffin First United Methodist Church where she participated in the Joy Class. She was also a member of the 17th Century Colonial Dames, Daughters of American Revolution, Monday and Thursday Bridge Clubs, and was formerly a member of the Wisteria Garden Club and the Griffin Utility Club.

She is survived by her children, Dr. and Mrs. Tommy Hopkins (Sara) of Griffin, Mrs. Lisa Hopkins Teat (Dr. Daniel W.) of Madison, Miss., Mr. and Mrs. Phillip W. Hopkins (Lisa) of Griffin, and Mrs. Jean Hopkins Duncan (Douglas R.) of Augusta. Her grandchildren are Corey Teat, Chase and Paige Hopkins, Corley and Jeff Hopkins, and Tripp, Charlie, and Molly Duncan. She is also survived by her siblings, Mr. Hugh Pratt (Carolyn) of Augusta, Mrs. George W. Poss (Sonny and Anne) of Thomson, Mrs. Sarah P. Moore of Covington, and Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Pratt, Jr. (Sonny and Carole) also of Covington. She was predeceased by her brothers, William Albert Pratt, and James Donald Pratt and her sister, Mrs. Doris Pratt Kirkland. Special friends are Odessa Akine and Sonny Hawthorne of Griffin.

Services were held Friday, January 18, at 3 p.m. at the Griffin First United Methodist Church.
