Mrs. Julia Nichols Rogers
Retired Thomson Company
THOMSON, Ga. - Mrs. Julia Nichols Rogers, 86, of Thomson, entered into rest February 17, 2008, at Warrenton Health and Rehabilitation. She was the wife of the late Wayne Rogers and the late Ellis "Lefty" Nichols.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Dr. James C. Elder, Jr. officiating.

Mrs. Rogers was born in Hancock County, but lived in Thomson, most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Dudley Clark and the late Lilly Ethridge Farrell Clark. Mrs. Rogers was retired from Thomson Company as a personnel supervisor and worked in the family owned Nichols Service Station for many years. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was an active member for many years. Mrs. Rogers was also a member of the Grace Sunday School Class. She started and prepared Wednesday night dinner for First Baptist Church for over 20 years.

Survivors include grandchildren, Rebecca L. Nichols, Thomson, and Julie Nichols Fulmer and her husband Calvin, Thomson; great-grandchildren, Leanna N. Broome and Halyn N. Fulmer; daughter-in-law, Marcia E. Nichols, Thomson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her son, Harold Clark Nichols.

Memorials may be made be to Warrenton Health Rehabilitation, 813 Atlanta Hwy., Warrenton, GA 30828.

Mrs. Ollie Mae Ramsey

AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mrs. Ollie Mae Ramsey, formerly of McCauley St. entered into rest Monday, December 31, 2007, at the University Hospital.

Mrs. Ramsey was a native of McDuffie County, but made her home in Augusta. She was a member of First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winfield. She was a retired civil servant from the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Augusta.

Survivors include one stepson, Mr. Allen (Willie Eva) West; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, all of Thomson; a devoted goddaughter, Barbara J. Cartledge, Thomson; two brothers-in-law, J.C. Ramsey, Thomson, Thomas Willingham, Winfield; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Adell Ramsey, Winfield, Mrs. Laureal Willingham, Mrs. Queen E. Lewis, Thomson; devoted nephew, Mr. Matthew (Betty) Lewis; dedicated friend, Mrs. Henrietta Smith; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 5, 2008, at 1 p.m. at First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Winfield. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Linda Tankersley Jordan

APPLING, Ga. - Mrs. Linda Tankersley Jordan of Appling, entered into rest March 25, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late William Thomas Jordan.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kim Webb officiating. Interment followed in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Jordan was born in Columbia County, and was the daughter of the late Viola B. Tankersley Dozier and the late Edward Allen Tankersley. She was a retired seamstress for Langham's Clothes Corner Outlet, and an office manager for Jordan Truck Service. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: sons, Joel Jordan (Linda), Tenille, Ga., and Jeffrey Jordan (Tracy), Harlem; a daughter, Janet Jordan (Kenny Sparks), Appling; brothers, Larry M. Tankersley, Appling, and C. Allen Tankersley- Lincolnton; a sister:, Eugenia T. Bufford- Appling; and 13 Grandchildren: Lelania Huey, Jessica Huey, Nicholas Huey, Kenneth Jordan (Starsha), Daniel Jordan, Julia J. Huprich (Bobby), Heather J. Weldon (Tim), Naava Jordan, Raia Jordan, Francesca Jordan, Pearl Jordan, Brandon Jordan, Nigel Jordan; six great-grandchildren: Anna Claire Parrish, Layla Parrish, Soliel Jordan, Jonathan Weldon, Kaija Weldon and Judah Weldon

Mrs. Mollie Rena McNeal Stephens

Mrs. Mollie Rena McNeal Stephens, 89, of Augusta, formerly of Pendergrass, Ga., passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2008.

The daughter of the late Rev. Jack McNeal and the late Bessie Henderson McNeal, Mrs. Stephens was born in Jackson County, Ga. Mrs. Stephens was a member of Walnut Fork Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis N. Stephens.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Benton of Thomson; son, Donnie Stephens of Athens; grandaughter, Brandi Nicole Benton of Thomson; Brother, Otis McNeal of Braselton and special cousin, Hazel Farrow of Commerce.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walnut Fork Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Amara Healthcare staff for the excellent care provided to Mrs. Stephens for many years and to the staff at the ICU at University Hospital for their exceptional care and concern.

Mrs. Mary Helen Williams

HARLEM, Ga. - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Helen Williams, 61, Harlem, were held on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. at Rehoboth Baptist Church, Appling, with the Rev. Jesse Johnson officiating. Interment was in the churchyard cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Timothy Williams, Harlem; two stepdaughters, Michelle Williams and Joann Williams, both of Harlem; two stepsons, Antonia Williams, Appling, and Melvin Germany, Grovetown; three step-grandchildren, Bernard Germany and Malik Germany, both of Grovetown, and Miquell Williams, Harlem; three sisters, Betty (James) Brooks, Virginia McGruder, both of Martinez and Williette (John Willie) Garnett, Grovetown; additional brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Annie Mae Dorsey, Carrie (Allen) Cartledge, Ezella (Charles) Edwards, Ruth (Henry) Williams, and John Williams, all of Harlem, Annie Lou (Dan) Williams, Thomson; eight aunts, Marie Jones, Rosa Mae Jones, all of Martinez, Katie Wiley, Lexington, NC, Arlene Perry, Appling, Beatrice Dent, CA, Carrie Frails, Winnie Smith, Frances Rolland, all of Harlem; three great-aunts, Leola Mercier Lincolnton, Lillie Mae Hill, and Lillie Mae Overton, both of Augusta; three uncles, Charlie Johnson, New York, NY, Griffin Johnson, Harlem, NY and James (Annette) Johnson, Appling and a host of nieces, nephews and devoted cousins, Robert Jones, Mary Bennifield and Linda Marie Jones; a great-niece, Isabella Sanon; a great-nephew, Jack Sanon; and many sorrowing friends.

Mr. Floyd Allen "Man" Denton

GIBSON, Ga. - Mr. Floyd Allen "Man" Denton, 65, entered into rest Friday, March 28, 2008, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sheppard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Phil Bray officiating. Interment was at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Glascock County and a farmer, he loved gardening. He was a fisherman and coon hunter.

He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mrs. Mary Oxford Denton; one son, Bobby (Linda) Denton of Tennille; two stepdaughters, Ginny Langham of Camak and Shirley (David) Smith of Dearing; one brother, Billy (Delia) Denton of Tennille; 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Russell Denton, David Denton, Joseph Wooten, Russell Tharpe, David Wells and David Smith. Honorary pallbearers were George Key, Edmond Dye, George Cooper and B.J. Denton.

Mrs. Rose M. Cribb

DEARING, Ga. -Mrs. Rose M. Cribb, of Dearing, died on Thursday, April 3, 2008. She was 87 years old.

The graveside service was conducted on Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Rev. Jim King officiated.

Survivors are her daughters, Patricia Story and her husband, Terry, and Mary Bradford and her husband, Butch; her granddaughter, Dawn Lewis; grandsons, Chris Bradford and David Bradford; her great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Rose Lewis.

Mrs. Sara Stockton Phillips

THOMSON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Sara Stockton Phillips, 80, of Thomson was held Sunday December 30, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Christian Church in Thomson, with Rev. Luther Rogers officiating. Interment was in New Zion Hill A.M.E. Church cemetery in Norwood.

Ms. Shelby Jean Harden

KEYSVILLE, Ga. - Ms. Shelby Jean Harden, 72, entered into rest Saturday, April 26, 2008, at Keysville Nursing Home & Rehab Center.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m., April 28, 2008, at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Timothy Pendrey officiating. Burial followed at Waldens United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Ms. Harden was a member of Waldens United Methodist Church and was retired from Stapleton Garment County. She had been crowned Ms. Keysville Nursing Home & Rehab Center Queen for 2007. She loved to go to gospel music concerts.

Survivors include a brother, Etheridge L. Rooks; three sisters, Willadean Kuykendall, Virginia Stanfield, and Sonya Usry and a special cousin, Margaret Rooks. Ms. Harden was preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Pauline F. Rooks; siblings, Jimmie Chalker, John Rooks, James Rooks, and Joyce Dixon.

Pallbearers were nephews, Barry Rooks, Tim Rooks, Steve Rooks, Joey Stanfield, Jim Stanfield, and Keith Usry. Honorary pallbearers were Charlie Davis, Glynn Wallace, Terry Redfern, James May, Terry Redfern, and Clarence Reese.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clifford Tanksley

NORWOOD, Ga. - Graveside service for Mr. Clifford Tanksley, 70, Norwood, was held on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Gospel Aide Society cemetery with Pastor Robert L. Turner officiating.

Mrs. Willie Mae Crawford Benning

LINCOLNTON, Ga. - Funeral service for Mrs. Willie Mae Crawford Benning, 87, Lincolnton, was held on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the First Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, Appling, with the Rev. Roscoe Perry officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include two daughters, Rosie Lee Reid, Appling and Lear (Clarence) Tutt, Lincolnton; four sons, Henry (Marion) Benning, Robert Willie (Luenett) Benning, all of Appling, Walter (Regina) Benning, Lincolnton, Noble Benning, Thomson; two grandchildren that she raised, Claudia Mae Benning, Harlem and Floyd Benning, Appling; two sisters, Estella Bailey and Eunice Brown, both of Appling; one brother, Virgil Crawford, Baltimore, Md.; five sisters-in-law; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Mr. Wilbur L. Gheesling

THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Wilbur L. Gheesling, 69, beloved husband of Mrs. Edith Gheesling, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Doctors Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in the Westview cemetery with Rev. Rusty Maddox officiating.

Mr. Gheesling was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. He was a retired mechanic and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith Gheesling, Thomson; his daughter, Brenda Bland, Thomson; his son, Tony Thigpen, Augusta; his sister, Cornelia Courtney, Charlottesville, Va.; his four brothers, Alton Gheesling, Thomson, Billy Gheesling, Goose Creek, S.C., Joe Gheesling, Covington, and Leonard Gheesling, Hawaii; and his five granddaughters.

Miss Agnes Gertrude Sweo

THOMSON, Ga. - Miss Agnes Gertrude, 85, of Thomson, entered into rest January 26, 2008.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens with Father Bill Williams officiating.

Agnes was born in Jefferson, Kan., and was the daughter of the late George Stephan and the late Lillie Jane Shugart Stephan.

Agnes was a long time resident of Southern California and retired as sales supervisor of Fedco Stores. She moved to Thomson in 1991 to be with her lifelong friend, Edith Young Poe, where she continued to enjoy her many hobbies of gardening and gourmet cooking. She is survived by her dear friend, various family members and special longtime friends in California.
