Darby Donald Smith
Darby Donald Smith, 74, of Rosedale Street, Toccoa, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Stephens County Hospital.
The son of the late Morris and Ollie Moore Smith, he was born May 12, 1929 in Stephens County, where he lived most of his life. He was employed with Life of Georgia Insurance Company for a number of years and later retired from Georgia Department of Labor. He was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Pruitt Smith, who died in 1995.
Graveside services were held Monday, Sept. 29, at Stephens Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Dr. Wade Bridges officiated.
Survivors include two sons, Shane Smith of Toccoa and Greg T. Smith and his wife, Marlene Smith, of Chesapeake, Va. and a grand-daughter, Jessica Smith; sisters-in-law, Anne Davis of Toccoa and Agnes Reed of Chester, S.C.

Lucious Luke Ray Adams
Lucius ?Luke? Ray Adams, 72, of Ridge Road, Eastanollee, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at his home.
A son of the late James and Jewell McCurley Adams, he was born April 28, 1931 in Stephens County where he lived most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from John?s Roofing in Toccoa and was of the Holiness faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Gray Adams, and a daughter, Shirley Adams.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 29, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Revs. Judy Carruth, Aaron Elrod and Jerrell Beatty officiated. Interment was in Middle River Baptist Church cemetery with VFW Post 4346 in charge of graveside services.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Palmer of Eastanollee, and two sons, Dale Adams and Anthony Adams both of Toccoa; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby King of Toccoa, Edna Miller of Marietta and Christine Cheek of Anderson, S.C.; two brothers, David Adams of Marietta and Gene Adams of Toccoa.
Pallbearers were Rickey Hayes, William Palmer, Danny Elrod, Troy Elrod, Jerome Miller and Jimmy Adams.

James Jerry Whitlock
James Jerry Whitlock, 61, of Rose Lane, Toccoa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003 at his home.
Born Sept. 2, 1942 in Stephens County, he was a son of the late Rev. James Whitlock and Blanche Bell Whitlock. He was owner and operator of Whitlock Mortuary, Skands Construction, Roselane Cemetery, and Toccoa Casket Company. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Rotary Club, the National and Georgia Funeral Director?s Associations. He graduated from Lavonia High School in 1960 and was a 1966 graduate of the John A. Gupton College of Mortuary Science in Nashville, Tenn. where he served as vice president of his class. He served in the National Guard.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 3, at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Drs. Roddy Turner and Henry Fields will officiate. Entombment will follow in Roselane Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Camp Whitlock of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherri W. and Buddy St. Clair of Toccoa and Susan W. and Kevin Keith of Dalton; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Allen and Tina Whitlock of Toccoa; two granddaughters, Krystle Whitlock and Molly St. Clair; two grandsons, Duncan ?Bo? St. Clair and J. Andrew Whitlock; two step-grandsons, Matthew and Marcus Chumley; a sister, Doris Nichols of Toccoa; a brother, Daniel Whitlock of Toccoa; mother-in-law, Hilda B. Camp of Toccoa; step-mother, Louise Whitlock of Toccoa; an uncle, four aunts, several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Employees of Whitlock Mortuary will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the church of one?s choice or the Stephens County FFA Program.

George LaCount
George LaCount, 79, of Mt. Airy, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2003 at Habersham County Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County on Nov. 2, 1923, he was the son of the late Lester and Callie Loudermilk LaCount. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during World War II and was a recipient of three Bronze Stars. He was retired from Schnadig Corporation after 30 years in the maintenance department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of Level Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by wife, Rachel Clark Lacount; brothers, Arthur LaCount, Robert LaCount, Joe LaCount and Carol LaCount; and sisters, Ruth Fleming, Lizzie Mae Whitworth and Jewell LaCount.
Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. from the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart. The Rev. Ray Turpin and Dr. B.V. Franklin will officiate. Interment will follow in Level Grove cemetery with full military honors provided by Rabun County D.A.V. Chapter #15 and Habersham County American Legion Post 84.
Survivors include daughters, Judy Owenby, Brenda McAllister and Pat Crocker all of Mt. Airy, Faye Porterfield of Clarkesville and Debbie Kardos of Valparaiso, Ind.; son, Mike LaCount of Mt. Airy; brother, Johnny LaCount of Clarkesville; sisters, Vera King, Mary Lee Robertson and Vallree Ivie, all of Cornelia; and 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Agnes Wooley Pedigo
Agnes Elizabeth Wooley Pedigo, 90, of Brickyard Road, Lavonia, died Friday, Feb. 6, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital.
A daughter of the late Allen Lucas and Lula Mae Claar Wooley, she was born Nov. 16, 1913 in Casper, Wy., having lived most of her life in Sullivan, Ill. and for the past two years in Lavonia. She was employed with the Brown Shoe Company in Sullivan, Ill. for a number of years and was also a homemaker.
She was a long-time member of the First Church of God in Sullivan and was an entertainer for elderly ladies at the Titus Home for Ladies in Sullivan for several years. She was preceded in death by her husand, Gentry Pedigo, by four sons, Ronald, Kenneth, Phillip, and Robert Pedigo and by four brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held from the graveside at the Green Hill cemetery in Sullivan, Ill., at a later date.
Survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Rose Sanders and Dorothy Uselton both of Lavonia and Caroline Neira of Buford; two sons, Roger Pedigo of Alabama and Gerald Pedigo of Illinois; 21 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Marion Mize
Marion Lee Mize, 65, of Mize Drive, Toccoa, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2004, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
The son of Lois Westmoreland Mize and the late Omer Lee Mize, he was born Sept. 30, 1938 in Stephens County where he lived all his life. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. He was a retired housing contractor and of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Omer Lee Mize, and a brother, Terry Gene Mize.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Revs. Don Pruitt and Danny Newbern will officiate. Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his mother, Lois Westmoreland Mize of Toccoa; a daughter, Tracey Snyder and husband, Ed Snyder, of Conyers; three sons, Stanley Mize, and wife, Cindy Mize of Gainesville, Mike Mize, and wife, Tari Mize of Gainesville and Terry Mize of Panama City, Fla.; nine grandchildren; a brother, Curtis Mize of Valdosta, and a sister, Carol Craven of Toccoa.
Pallbearers will be Ray Hamilton, Jeff Simpson, Chris Mize, David Mize, David Westmoreland, Robert Stephens, and Don Bayles.

Estelle Cox
Estelle Minnie Gibby Cox, 91, of Holiness Church Road, Toccoa, died Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital.
A daughter of the late Robert “Bob” Gibby and Pearl Turpin Gibby, she was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Stephens County where she lived all of her life. She was a member of Eastanollee Baptist Church and attended Oak Valley Church of God. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Cox.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 6, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The Revs. Ronnie Head and Ray Bohannon officiated. Interment followed in Eastanollee Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Watkins of Toccoa; three grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Wright and Susie Standridge, both of Toccoa; a half-brother, Tom Standridge of Toccoa.

Nobie Elizabeth Watt
Nobie Elizabeth Whitwoth Watt, 98, of Whitworth Road, Lavonia, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at her home.
Born Dec. 5, 1905 in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late John Winston and Pearl Mozelle McCrakin Whitworth. She retired from Carwood Manufacturing Company in Lavonia after 25 years of service. She was a homemaker and a life-long member of Shoal Creek Baptist Chruch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Melvin Watt, and by a brother, Hugh W. Whitworth.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 8, in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home. The Revs. Jonathan Ayers and Mike Smith officiated. Interment followed in Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Winnie Hugh Watt Peltz of the home; sons, Jimmy T. Watt of the home and Johnny Watt of Dahlonega; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchilren.

Myrtle Eugenia Segars
Myrtle Eugenia Smith Segars, 67, of Brown Memorial Convalescent Center, Royston, formerly of Brookwood Drive, Lavonia, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2004, at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell.
Born Sept. 6, 1936 in Gastonia, N.C. she was a daughter of the late George Raymond and Margaret Alda Ballard Smith. She was a seamstress and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death, in adition to her parents, by a sister, Marguerite Smith, and a granddaughter, Samantha Sunshine Segars.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 7, in the chapel of Hamby Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeryle Roach officiated. Service of committal and interment were held Sunday, Feb. 8, in the Amity Baptist Church cemetery in Denver, N.C., with the Rev. Larry Little officiating.
Survivors include daughters, Betty S. King of Somerset, Ky., Cathy Pickens of Ft. Mills, S.C., Wanda Bickley of Irmo, S.C. and Myra S. Szustak of Spartanburg, S.C.

Charles F. Taylor
Charles F. Taylor, 67, of Hartwell, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at Anderson Area Medical Center.
Born March 29, 1936 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late George W. Taylor Sr. and Florida Busha Taylor. He was employed by Monroe Auto Equipment Company as a tool and dye maker since 1957. He was a salesman for Allied Pest Control, former member of the Optimist Club, was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple, Starr, S.C., where he served as an usher. He was a former deacon and R.A. leader and music leader. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard Taylor and George W. Taylor Jr., and by his sister, Buena Taylor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 4 p.m. from the chapel of Strickland Funeral Home. The Revs. Sam Duncan and Frank Duncan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery.
