Max D. McFarlin

Retired WABCO machinist

Max D. McFarlin, 82, of McFarlin Boulevard, New Bethel Community, Carnesville, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004 at Stephens County Hospital.

Born Dec. 27, 1921 in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Fitzhugh L. and Flossie Inez Caudell McFarlin. Before retirement, he was a machinist for 34 years for the WABCO, LeTourneau-Westinghouse Corporation of Toccoa. He was a veteran of the United States Army. During World War II, he was involved in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe campaigns. He was a member of the VFW Post 4346 in Toccoa. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Mikie and Marvin McFarlin; two sisters, Mana Cook and Ruth Looney, and one brother, Noel McFarlin.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 16 at New Bethel Baptist Church. The Rev. Tommy Childress officiated. Interment with military honors followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include is wife, Latrelle Andrews McFarlin; daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Lary Bennett of Carnesville; grandson and his wife, Tim and Sherri Bennett of Carnesville; two great-granddaughters, Candice and Kristin Bennett of Carnesville; four brothers, George McFarlin of Lithonia, L.D. "Deck" McFarlin of Carnesville, Don McFarlin and Dallas McFarlin of Toccoa; two sisters, Mary Hallford and Ossie Adams, both of Toccoa.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Ginn Funeral Home, Carnesville, was in charge of arrangements.

Willie Mae Wells Bennett

Homemaker

Willie Mae Wells Bennett, 92, of Toccoa, widow of George Bennett, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in the Toccoa Nursing Center.

Born Jan. 10, 1912, in Franklin County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Joe and Mattie Howe Wells. She was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 1, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. The Revs. Robert Thomas and Bill Evans officiated. Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Betty Bennett of Toccoa; three sisters, Robbie Roach of Royston, Minnie Neal Moore of Ila and Dora Lee Ayers of Toccoa; a brother, Thomas Wells of Charlotte, N.C.; a half-sister, Merle Bridges of Royston; grandchildren, Vickie and Steve Addison of Athens, Tony Bennett of Toccoa and Greg and Lynn Duckett of Toccoa; great-grandchildren, Lauren Addison of Athens, Jamie Duckett and Allen Duckett, both of Toccoa; great-great-granddaughter, Ana Duckett of Toccoa.

Pallbearers were Tony Bennett, Greg Duckett, Steve Addison, Troy Jordan, Randall Jordan and Ray Jordan.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Albie F. Everitte

Florida native

Albie Ardall Faircloth Everitte, 90, of Eastanollee, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Hart County Hospital in Hartwell.

The daughter of the late Frank and Clara Faircloth, she was born Oct. 17, 1914, in Jackson County, Fla., where she lived most of her life, having lived in Eastanollee for the past nine years. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her husband, Pledger Everitte.

Funeral services were held today, Friday, Dec. 3, in Florida. Interment was in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery, Graceville, Fla.

Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Walker of Brandon, Fla.; seven sons, William Everitte and wife, Wilma, of Eastanollee, Calvin Everitte of Montgomery, Ala., Frank Everitte of Thomason, John Everitte, Ronald Everitte and Melton Everitte, all of Mobile, Ala., and Donald Everitte of Plant City, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Tatum Massey

Church pianist for over 30 years

Ruth Tatum Massey, 92, of Toccoa, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Scenic View Nursing Home in Baldwin.

Born Dec. 23, 1911, in White County, she was a daughter of the late Jess and Emma McCollum Tatum and was the widow of Paul Henry Massey. She was a homemaker and a member of Carnes Creek Baptist Church, the Mary Esther Sunday School Class and served as church pianist for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rachel York; a sister, Mary Lee Edmonds; and, two brothers, Bruce Tatum and Homer Tatum.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, from the chapel of Whitlock Mortuary. Dr. Tim Miller will officiate. Interment will follow in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends today, Dec. 3, at Whitlock Mortuary from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean DeFreese of Toccoa and Frances Merritt of Clermont, Fla.; a brother, Claude Tatum of Cleveland, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Vickie Whitworth, Darryl DeFreese, Greg Addison, Paula Roach and Allison McClain; four great-grandchildren, Cale Whitworth, Lynae Whitworth, Lydia Roach and Alex DeFreese.

Pallbearers will be Cale Whitworth, Darryl DeFreese, Alex DeFreese, Johnny Whitworth, Greg Addison and Stephen Roach.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Whitlock Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Ray Hopkins Sr.

Former Toccoa Foundry employee

Ray Hopkins Sr., 80, of Toccoa, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at Stephens County Hospital.

Born Feb. 24, 1924, in Oconee County, S.C., he was a son of the late John Thomas "Tom" and Mary Lay Hopkins and had lived most of his life in Stephens County.

He was a very active member of Toccoa Church of God, a member of the Sanctuary Sunday School Class and past member of the church council. He was a former employee of Toccoa Foundry. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 2, from Toccoa Church of God. The Revs. Harlon Noles and Dennis Rafala officiated. Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Wayne Marcus officiating at the graveside.

Survivors include his wife, Dennis Grant Hopkins of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Jerry Heaton of Toccoa, Beverly and Dennis Roach of Royston; a son and daughter-in-law, Ray Jr. and Alice Hopkins of Toccoa; a brother, the Rev. James Ferber Hopkins of Greenville, S.C.; sisters-in-law, Bessie Hopkins of Greenville, S.C., and Dicie Hopkins of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Don Heaton, Kenneth Heaton, Michael Jarrett, Jonathon Rickman, Wallace Hopkins and Donnie Hopkins.

Memorials may be made to the Toccoa Church of God building fund.

Whitlock Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel Fulbright Williams

Lived most of her life in Stephens County

Hazel Fulbright Williams, 86, of Toccoa, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at Toccoa Nursing Center.

A daughter of the late Henry Dave and Jessie Cole Fulbright, she was born Aug. 10, 1918, in Franklin County and lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.C. Williams, and by a daughter, Evelyn Cheek.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Hillcrest Chapel of Acree-Davis Funeral Home. Charlie Pitts and the Rev. Dennis Rafala officiated.

Interment followed in Stephens Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Garrett of Toccoa; two sons, Haskell "Bud" Williams of Irmo, S.C., and Charles Williams of Lavonia; a sister, Faye Burrell of Toccoa; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and, a number of nieces and nephews.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

James "Jimbo" McDaniel

Fulton County native

James "Jimbo" McDaniel, 41, of Martin, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at his home, following a sudden illness.

A native of Fulton County, he was a former resident of Dawson County for 20 years. He was formerly employed by Martin Marietta and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Neal McDaniel, and step-father, Aubie D. "Mac" McKenzie.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Dawsonville Methodist Church. Pastor Ricky Stepp officiated. Interment followed in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Angie Fritz of Dawsonville; daughter, Dannielle McDaniel of Dawsonville; sons, Ray Kennedy of Paducah, Ky., Josh Kennedy of Dawsonville, Kirk Kennedy of Hubert, N.C.; mother, Clifford A. "Cliff" McKenzie of Martin; sisters, Charlotte Dietrich of Dawsonville and Lynn Phinney of Auburn; brothers, Glenn McDaniel of Dawsonville, Bill McDaniel of Dawsonville, Tommy McDaniel of Martin, Dan McKenzie of Buford; and, a number of other relatives.

Bearden Funeral Home, Dawsonville, was in charge of arrangements.

Irene Roberts

Owner/operator of Lone Oak Motel

Irene Crawford Roberts, 82, of Toccoa, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at her home.

A daughter of the late Allen and Ola Langford Crawford, she was born Oct. 31, 1922, in Franklin County and lived most of her life in Stephens County. She was the owner and operator of the Lone Oak Motel for some 30 years. She was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Dan Roberts; a daughter, Patricia Burrell; and, a son, Joe Roberts.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 30, at Old Toccoa Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Old Toccoa Baptist Church cemetery.

Survivors include five sons, Dan Roberts, Jack Roberts, Johnny Roberts, Michael Roberts, all of Toccoa, and Jimmy Roberts of Carnesville; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Crawford of Toccoa, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Dan Roberts, Jack Roberts, Michael Roberts, Tommy Dyer, Kevin Roberts and Lane Barrett.

Acree-Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
