SWAINSBORO--Funeral for George L. Peebles, 66, was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, from the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home. The Rev. Kelmer Durden officiated. Burial was in Lamb Cemetery.
Born in Emanuel County, Mr. Peebles had worked on a sawmill most of his life. He was a member of Twiggs Chapel Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred G. Peebles of Swainsboro; three sons, Roy Joe Peebles of Columbia, S.C., David Bunch of Swainsboro and Johnny Peebles of Swainsboro; a stepdaughter, Sharon Flahtery of Louisville, Ky.; a brother, Talmadge Peebles of Dellwood; two sisters, Onita Scarboro and Christine Roberson, both of Swainsboro; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews, Johnny Mills, Richard Bedgood, James Roberson, Johnny Peebles, Junior Stapleton and Knocker Hall.

Mrs. Dorothy Dailey Canady, 69
MILLEN--Funeral for Mrs. Dorothy Dailey Canady, 69, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, from Millen Baptist Church. The Rev. Leroy Lowery and the Rev. Butch Taylor officiated. Burial was in Millen Cemetery.
She died Tuesday, June 12, in Burke County Hospital, Waynesboro.
A native of Jenkins County, Mrs. Canady was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce C. Mixon of Millen; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Nephews and cousins served as pallbearers.

Virgil Canady, 74

He died Tuesday, June 12, in Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Canady had retired from the U.S. Army. He had served in Korea. Mr. Canady was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Joyce C. Mixon of Millen; a sister, Ida Jenkins of Savannah; a brother, Irving Canady of Savannah; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--Funeral for Mrs. Rosa Hoover, 91, was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, from Moores Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kenneth Watkins officiated. Burial was in Westview Cemetery.
She died Wednesday, June 13, in Jacksonville.
A native of Johnson County, Mrs. Hoover was the daughter of the late Willie Clifford and Eliza Maddox Carroll. She had retired from W.T. Grant & Co. as a supervisor. Mrs. Hoover was a homemaker and a lifelong member of Moores Chapel Untied Methodist Church. She was sister to the late Rueben, Elmer, Lester and Thurmon Carroll.
Survivors include a son, Richard Eugene Hoover of Jacksonville, Fla.; a daughter, Reba LaBarge of Jacksonville; four sisters, Irene Kitchens, Virginia Brantley and Hazel Rachels, all of Wrightsville, and Mary Foskey of Swainsboro; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Foskey, Joey Ashcraft, Louie Fortner, Lee Kreutz, Howard Brantley and Wayne Carroll.

John R. Rountree Sr., 94
DUBLIN--Funeral for John R. Rountree Sr., 94, was held 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, from the chapel of C. Homer Adams Funeral Home. Burial was in Northview Cemetery, Dublin.
He died late Tuesday night, June 12, in a Dublin hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Emanuel County, Mr. Rountree was the son of the late Dr. Manning Alonzo and Hattie Rogers Rountree. He received his education at Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Mercer University and Georgia Southern University, majoring in mathematics and school administration. He taught mathematics and coached basketball in Laurens County, Treutlen County and Emanuel County schools.
He served 11 years as superintendent of schools in Emanuel County. He taught mathematics and was head of the mathematics department at Brewton Parker College five years. After 40 years of school work, Mr. Rountree retired in Dublin. He taught a Sunday school class and was a deacon for several years. He was a member of Swainsboro Exchange Club, Dublin Country Club and Georgia Seniors Golf Association. He served as director and president of the association. After returning to his home in Dublin, Mr. Rountree spent his time supervising farms in Laurens, Treutlen and Johnson counties. He was the widower of Sarah Lucille Bedingfield Rountree.
Survivors include a son, John R. Rountree Jr. of Cumming; a sister, Lottie R. Aaron of Lyons; a brother, Wilbur Rountree of Valdosta; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were James Hilbun, Flanders Avery, Scott Beasley, Wayne Christian, Henry Bedingfield and Carl Bedingfield. STATESBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Lurene Johnson Rock, 70, was held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2001, from Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church. Elder James Johnson officiated. Burial was in Old Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Statesboro.
She died Thursday, June 14, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
A native of Bulloch County, Mrs. Rock was a member of Mt. Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and treasurer of the Women's Department. She was also a member of the finance department of New Mount Pleasant Association of Georgia State Primitive Baptist Convention.
Survivors include her husband, Izill Rock of Statesboro; a son, Silver Lee Johnson of Statesboro; three sisters, Irene Rock of Cobbtown, Mamie Fields of Swainsboro and Clara Frink of Metter; three brothers, Earnest Johnson of Metter, Larry Johnson of Vero Beach, Fla., and Ralph Johnson of Cobbtown; two adopted sisters, Ethel Hall of Statesboro and Maurine Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She died Sunday, June 17, in Meadows Regional Medical Center, Vidalia.
A native of Emanuel County, Mrs. Harrell had lived most of her life in Montgomery and Toombs counties. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
Survivors include her husband, Lester Harrell of Vidalia; three daughters, Juanita Harrell Causby of Calhoun, Patricia Harrell Harden of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and Tammy Nelson of Vidalia; two sons, Ray Harrell of Hazlehurst and Vernon Harrell of Vidalia; two sisters, Correse Hickox and Betty Jean Hargrove, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; four brothers, Virgil Patrick of Lyons, Cleo Patrick of Mount Vernon, George Patrick Jr. and Charles Patrick, both of Vidalia; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Centralia, Ill., Mrs. Singletary had lived in Odin, Ill., before moving to Swainsboro 16 and one-half years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Odin, Ill.
Survivors include her husband, Aaron Hall of Swainsboro; two sons, Guy Singletary of Swainsboro and Michael Singletary of Swainsboro; two step-children, Patrick Hall and Bonnie Hall, both of Swainsboro; her mother, Lou Ida Cheatum of Odin, Ill; four brothers, Guy Cheatum of Odin, Ill, Mike Owens, Darrell Owens and Kelly Owens, all of South Daytona, Fla.; her godparents, Gene and Bea Owens of Centralia, Ill.

Henry Clyde Poole, 76
ADRIAN--Funeral for Henry Clyde Poole, 76, former superintendent of Emanuel County Schools, was held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, from Adrian Baptist Church. The Rev. Inman Gerrald, the Rev. James Barnes, the Rev. Morris Brantley and Dr. Willie Gunn officiated.
Additional services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, in LaFayette City cemetery with military honors.
He died Saturday, July 14, in Fairview Park Hospital, Dublin.
Born in Treutlen County, Mr. Poole was a son of the late Henry C. and Hattie Holton Poole. He was a graduate of Georgia Teachers College, Statesboro, and received his master's degree from Peabody-Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. He served in the Army during World War II.
An educator for 32 years, Mr. Poole served as principal and coach at Damascus High School from 1950 to 1054. From 1954 to 1969, he was principal of Adrian High School and for 12 years he served as superintendent of Emanuel County Schools.
He served in the following organizations: president of Georgia Club, Peabody-Vanderbilt University; president, Adrian Lions Club; president, Woodmen of the World; president, Emanuel County Agribusiness Council; president, First District Georgia High School Association for 13 years; president, First District Principals Association; president, Emanuel County Association of Educators; president, First District Superintendents Association; president, Swainsboro Exchange Club; president, Georgia Association of School Superintendents; president, Georgia Association of Family and Children Service Boards for State of Georgia and Emanuel County; treasurer, Emanuel County Public Library; served on board of directors for Emanuel County Health Department and served as chairman of Emanuel County Red Cross.
Mr. Poole was a member of Holton's Chapel Advent Christian Church, Treutlen County, but attended Adrian Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school.
Survivors include his wife, Fredia Abney Poole of Adrian; a daughter, Suzanne Bankston of LaFayette; a brother, Woodrow Poole of Soperton; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were John Webb, Wilbur Stephens, Elliott Barwick, Greg Barwick, Robert Fountain, Ronnie Mathis, Lanier Poole and Johnny Collins.

MIDVILLE--Funeral for James M. "Jimmy" Oglesby, 67, was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2001, from Union Grove United Methodist Church near Midville. The Rev. Norma Jean Thomas and the Rev. Roland Fall officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He died Monday, July 9, following a short illness.
A native of Jenkins County, Mr. Oglesby was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a past chairman of the administrative board. He was a member of Ridgeway Masonic Lodge of Garfield and was the manufacturer of Jim's Meat Sauce. Mr. Oglesby was a lifetime farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Joan Drake Oglesby of Midville; two daughters, Pam Carr of Midville and Tammy Salter of Waynesboro; a son Jamey Oglesby of Swainsboro; two brothers, Roosevelt Oglesby Jr. of Midville and Danny Oglesby of Savannah; and eight grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Hal Bridges, Joe Hatcher, Carson Cross, Joey Burch, Johnny Hurst, Chesley Flanders, David Oglesby and Tommy Frix.
