Charles Edward Johnson

Mr. Charles Edward Johnson, age 81, of McDonough, Georgia died April 12, 2008. Mr. Johnson was born in Fulton County, the son of the late Marie Pelot and James Lee Johnson. Mr. Johnson served his country in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946. He retired from Sears with 32 years of service. He was an active member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and cooking. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Clifford Johnson.

Survivors are his wife of fifty years, Rebecca Paschal Johnson of McDonough; children, Charles Edward Johnson Jr. of McDonough, Ellen Johnson of Rome, David and Tammy Johnson of McDonough; grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Mary, Sam, Mark, Thomas, Timothy, and Emily; great grandchildren, Dakota and Gavin; niece, Kelley Ann and David Bell of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 15 at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with Rev. John Brown and Rev. Alex Stroud officiating. Interment Morrow First United Methodist Church Cemetery. For those who wish in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, 992 Mt. Bethel Rd., McDonough, Georgia 30252. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Louise Ensley Cheshire

Mrs. Marilyn Louise Ensley Cheshire, age 60 of Jackson, Georgia died April 13, 2008. She was born in Murphy, North Carolina to the late Floyd R. Ensley Jr. and the late Lucille Campbell Ensley. Marilyn was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Hampton, where she taught Sunday School and the Children’s Church Service. She enjoyed reading and cooking. She was preceded in death by a brother, Doug Ensley and a sister, Oneta Ensley.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Ron Cheshire of Jackson; brothers, Michael Ensley of Michigan, Mark Ensley of Statesboro, John Ensley of Riverdale, and David Ensley of McDonough; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 16 at Bible Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Blanton and Pastor Norman Pyle officiating. Interment Eastlawn Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Mission Fund of Bible Baptist Church, 2780 Mt. Carmel Road, Hampton, Georgia 30228 in memory of Mrs. Cheshire. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Terry Clark

Mr. Terry Clark, age 60, of Locust Grove, Georgia died April 14, 2008. He was born in Oxford, Mississippi to the late Tobe and Bertha Clark. Mr. Clark was formerly a firefighter, served as fire chief, was an instructor with the Arkansas Fire Training Academy and an adjutant with the National Fire Training Academy. He was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church, a Mason, a Shriner and a member of Henry Medical Center Auxillary. Terry was a wonderfully unique man. He loved his God, he loved his family and he loved people. Some of his most treasured moments were spent outdoors hunting and fishing. He could talk to kings as easily as paupers, and most of all he had the gift of mercy which the Lord used every day to help whomever came into his life. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Troy Clark and Dwight Clark.

Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Susan Spraberry Clark of Locust Grove; children, Tammy (Harmon) Hopwood of Mayfield, Kentucky, Randall (Sara) Tyer of Milledgeville, Andrew (Elizabeth) Tyer of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Toby (Letha) Clark of Marion, Arkansas; eight beautiful granddaughters, Emalee, Karee, Sharee, Beth, Ashley, Alston, Avery and Eliza; siblings, Roy Clark of Oxford, Mississippi, Louise Watson of Bruce, Mississippi, Frances Gentry of Glendora, Mississippi, Peggie Chrestman of Ponotoc, Mississippi and Carol Cowsert, of Bruce, Mississippi.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on April 17 at Locust Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Douglas Gilreath officiating. Interment Memory Memorial Gardens, Bruce, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Locust Grove United Methodist Church Bus Fund, 211 Peeksville Road, Locust Grove, Georgia 30248. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Bertrice Hall Hallman

Mrs. Bertrice Hall Hallman, age 90 of Hampton, Georgia died April 14, 2008. She was born in Alabama to the late M.A. and Ruby Vincent Hallman. She worked for Holberg’s Hardware in Griffin and the American Mills. She was a member of the Hampton First Baptist Church. She was a member of the original Hampton Chapter 361 of the Eastern Star for 27 years and later became a member in 1991 until the present. She enjoyed plants and piece quilting. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Milton Lowry Hallman, Sr.; a daughter, Rebecca Hallman; a son, Milton Hallman, Jr.; and by 11 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice (Terry) Harp of McDonough, Debra (Bob) Cook of Davie, Florida; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 16 at the Chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Dr. Buddy Perstrope and Dr. Terry Quick officiating. Interment Sherwood Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the Hampton First Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Hallman. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Clem H. Fortner

Clem H. (Foots) Fortner, age 90, of McDonough, Georgia, died March 14, 2008. He retired in 1967, after more than 26 years of service with the Atlanta Police Department attaining the rank of Lieutenant. He then worked for almost twenty years with the Fulton County Public Defender's Office as an investigator. He was a Ham Radio Operator (K4PKQ), a member of Grant Park Masonic Lodge, the International Brotherhood of Magicians, past-president of the Georgia Magic Club Ring 9, the Atlanta Society of Magicians, the North Amer-ican Association of Ventril-oquists, Fraternal Order of Police, Peace Officers Association of Georgia, and Saint Joseph's Episcopal Church. Mr. Fortner, known as "Fortner the Merry Magician," was a professional magician for more than sixty-five years. He was a master of the craft of close-up magic, ventriloquism and mentalism. He generously gave his time to help budding magicians learn the craft of magic and ventriloquism. Mr. Fortner was preceded in death by Ruby Ridling Fortner, his wife of sixty years.

Survivors include daughter, Judy Carole Fortner Stone of McDonough, son, Thomas H. (Tom) Fortner; granddaughters, Terri Echols Santacroce and Christie Shackelford Jarrio; grandsons, Charles H. Fortner and Thomas E. (Ted) Fortner; his great grandson, Evan Santacroce; and a beloved companion, Jean Bradley.

Services were held at Saint Joseph's Episcopal Church on April 12. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sacred Journey Hospice Foundation, 136 Peach Drive, McDonough, Georgia 30253 and/or Saint Joseph's Episcopal Church, 1865 Highway 20 East, McDonough, Georgia 30253. Cremation Society of the South in charge of arrangements.

Randy Scarborough

Mr. Randy Scarborough, age 72 of Stockbridge, Georgia died March 19, 2008. He was born in Florida to the late Charlie Elrod and Verdie Bloodworth Scarborough. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired after 27 years with Delta Airlines. Randy enjoyed fishing, traveling, and golf.

Survivors include his wife, Eunice Trammel Scarborough of Stockbridge; brother, Jerry (Dixie) Scarborough of Arizona; and a niece, Kimberly Scarborough of Arizona.

Those who wish may make contributions to Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center or to the Henry County Humane Society in memory of Randy Scarborough. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Robert Edgar Ausband, Sr.

Robert Edgar “Eddie” Ausband, Sr., age 71, of McDonough, died April 1, 2008. He was born in Atlanta to the late Pearl Earnest and Mary Lee Owen Ausband of Kelleytown. Eddie served in the United States Army. He graduated from Henry County High School in 1955 and the University of Georgia in 1959 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He began his professional career in pharmaceutical sales in 1963, and he retired as a regional Vice President after thirty-seven years with the same company. Eddie was a member of the First Baptist Church of McDonough. He served as a Deacon, Sunday School Director, and Sunday School Teacher. His life was devoted to his faith and his loving and devout wife of forty-eight years, his family, his passion for travel, and family vacations in Longboat Key, Florida, Crested Butte, Colorado, and Jackson Lake.

Eddie is survived by his wife of forty-eight years, Sarah “Ease” Carmichael Ausband; children, Robert Edgar Ausband, Jr. and wife Allison of McDonough, Andrew Carmichael Ausband and wife Elizabeth of Atlanta, Joseph Bradley Ausband and wife Valerie of Atlanta, Angela Ausband Stewart and husband Bryan of McDonough; ten grandchildren, McKenzie Lynn Ausband, Shelby Carmichael Ausband, Robert Edgar Ausband, III, Wakefield Brock Ausband, Neely Carmichael Ausband, Elizabeth Andrew Ausband, Joseph Tucker Ausband, Bryan Dade Stewart, Jr., Talmedge Ausband Stewart, Coleman Owen Stewart; sister, Sara Ann Hightower of McDonough; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held April 4 at the First Baptist Church of McDonough with Dr. Charles Thomas and Dr. Bob Marsh officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society at 4920 N. Henry Blvd., Stockbridge, Georgia 30281 or the First Baptist Church of McDonough Building Fund, 101 Macon Street, McDonough, Georgia 30253. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
