John David "JD" Fann, 81

TWIN CITY--Funeral for John David "JD" Fann, 81, was held Sunday, March 27, 2004 at 3 p.m. with Rev. S.D. Bing officiating. He died Monday, March 22, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center after a short illness. Burial was in Roundtree Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Fann was born June 7, 1922, the seventh child of 14 children, to sharper and Classie Dennie Fann in Stillmore.
Survivors include his children, Lucille Jeanette Fann of Atlanta; Bobbie Jean Fann, Lois Mack and Joe Willie Bynes of Twin City; Annie Jean Fann of Augusta; John David Fann Jr. of Summertown; and Ethell Bynes of Miami, Fla.; three sisters, Gladys Fann and Marion Fann of Twin City; and Mary Ruth Fann of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three brothers, Ulysses Fann of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Bruce Fann of Decatur; and Ralph Fann of Twin City; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews and honorary pallbearers were friends.
Mosley's Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Ada Mae "Genis" Kirkland, 61

PALATKA, FLA.--Funeral for Ada Mae "Genis" Kirkland, 61 was held Saturday, March 13, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Greater Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Q. Robinson officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill West Cemetery. She died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at Governor's Creek Nursing Home.
Ms. Kirkland was born on May 28, 1942 in Garfield to the late Harvey and Mae Bell Kirkland. After living in Miami, Fla. for several years, she moved to Palatka where she lived until her health declined.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine Pinkney, and Sharon Young; stepdaughter, Elizabeth "Lil" Moody; son, William Wallace Kirkland Jr.; sisters, Susie Mae Pullens, Francis Ross and Harvey Lee Wadley; brother, Harvey Kirkland Jr.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were James Kirkland, James Pinkney, Kenneth Tatum, Nicolas Young, Charles Williams and Reginald Williams.
D.A. Boyd & Sons Funeral Home of Palatka, Fla. had charge of arrangements.

Iva Lee Johnson, 75

WRIGHTSVILLE--Funeral for Iva Lee Johnson, age 75, will be held Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Lamar Kersey will officiate. She died Monday, March 29, 2004.
Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Johnson County and was the daughter of the late Cephus Kersey and Gertrude Copeland Kersey Doolittle. She was a member of the Nazarene faith and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late David E. Johnson.
Survivors include her sons, Glynn Johnson of Gordon; Gary Johnson, Richard Johnson and Hubert Johnson of Wrightsville; three daughters, Geraldine McCullough of Stockbridge; Jackie Vallin of Imperial Beach, Calif.; and Janice Lumley of East Dublin; five sisters, Mattie Lord, Wanell Miller and Annette Claxton of Wrightsville; Mary Bethel of Dublin; and Jeanette Cormany of Conyers; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Stanley Funeral Home of Wrightsville has charge of the arrangements.

Howard Brinson, 69

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y.--Funeral for Howard Brinson, 69, will be held Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Canoochee with Rev. Bennie Brinson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He died Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in New York City, N.Y.
Mr. Brinson was the son of the late J.C. and Piccola Turner Brinson of Twin City. He resided in New York for over 50 years, recently moving to Statesboro. He was a veteran of the Marines and an entrepreneur.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Howard Brinson of Statesboro; four children, Marguarite Williams of Monroe, N..Y.; Denise Johnson of Mt. Vernon, N,Y.; and Earlise Acey of Atlanta; three sisters, Ruth Payton Alexis of Statesboro; Mrs. Beaufort Brinson Garland of Riverdale, N.Y.; and Carolyn B. Walker of Stone Mountain; two brothers, John C. Brinson of New York City, N.Y.; and Terrence Brinson of Statesboro; and three grandchildren.
Payton's Mortuary of Statesboro has charge of arrangements.

Ida W. Sheffield Deal, 91
CLAYTON--Funeral for Ida West Sheffield Deal, 91, was held Monday, May 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer and Rev. Mike Campbell officiating. Burial was in Rabun Memory Park. She died Friday, April 23, 2004 at her home.
Mrs. Deal was born in Camden County to the late Sherard C. Sheffield and Shirley Peoples Sheffield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Homer J. Deal; and a brother, Rev. Carl Sheffield. She had lived in Clayton since 1934. She was a salesperson in retail pharmacy and was working at Deal's Drug Store in January 2004. She was a charter member of Pilot Club of Clayton; a member of Clayton Woman's Club; a member of the Order of Eastern Star; and a member of Clayton Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters, Eleanor Deal Law of Clayton; and Evelyn Deal Kilby of Nunez; brothers, Wilbur Sheffield of Brunswick; and Arnold Sheffield of Kingsland; a sister, Jean Sheffield Watson of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Hunter Funeral Home of Clayton had charge of arrangements.

Forrest Meeks, 79

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Forrest Meeks, 79, was held Sunday, May 2, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Wayne DeFore and Rev. Bill Thompson officiating. Burial was in Kite Cemetery. He died Saturday, May 1, 2004 at Medical College of Georgia in Augusta after a brief illness.
Mr. Meeks was a native of Johnson County and was retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base in Warner robins. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry and attended First United Methodist Church in Swainsboro.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Meeks of Swainsboro; two sons, Daniel Meeks of Spartanburg, S.C.; and Colon Meeks of Troutdale, Oregon; a stepdaughter, Gail Carter of Metter; three stepsons, Rawllins Keen of Sardis; Freddie Keen of Orlando, Fla.; and Hines Keen of Kite; five grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Brent Carter, Brian Carter, Jordy Carter, Tripp Keen, Earl Hood, Johnny Blount, David Martin and John Barr. Honorary pallbearers are lake Luck Civic Club and their wives.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

Gladys Fagler Lewis, 81

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Gladys Fagler Lewis, 81, was held Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Marty McCloud officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Monday, May 3, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center.
Mrs. Lewis was a native of Emanuel County and part-owner of Swainsboro Stockyard for 34 years. She served in the United States Navy for several years and was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Bobby C. Lewis of Swainsboro; a granddaughter, Maycie Joann Lewis of Swainsboro; three grandsons, Thomas Adam Lewis, Steven Jason Lewis and Cole Archie Lewis of Swainsboro; a brother, Cecil Fagler of Swainsboro; and a sister, Margaret Reyes of Savannah.
Pallbearers were Tyson Stephens, Don Wilkes, Vance Reyes, Todd Faircloth, Dwight Faircloth and Bernie Reyes.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Nora Williams Wright, 100

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Nora Williams Wright, 100, was held Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Reno Tapley Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darriel Williams officiating. Burial was in Swainsboro City Cemetery. She died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mrs. Wright was a native of Emanuel County but lived most of her adult life in Pompano, Fla. She returned to Swainsboro after retirement and was a homemaker until her illness and demise.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Minnie S. Williams of Swainsboro; and Sandra Wadley of Soperton; seven great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Reno Tapley Mortuary had charge of arrangements.

T.J. Byrd Sr., 87

STILLMORE--Funeral for T.J. Byrd Sr., 87, was held Wednesday, April 28 at New Life Baptist Church in Aline. Burial was in the church cemetery. He died Sunday, April 25 at his residence in Stillmore.
Mr. Byrd was a native of Candler County and had resided in Emanuel County most of his adult life and was a member of New Life Baptist Church in Aline.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas C. Byrd of Stillmore; and Deacon Thomas J. Byrd of Twin City; a daughter, Betty J. Gordon of Stillmore; five grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Whitaker Funeral Home of Metter had charge of arrangements.

Bobby Joe Lamb Sr.

BRADENTON, FLA.--Funeral for Bobby Joe Lamb Sr. was held Thursday, April 29, 2004 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home. Burial was in Kirkland Cemetery. He died Sunday, April 25, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Lamb was born in Pembroke and had lived in Bradenton since 1955. He had been a roofer at Charles Roy Roofing for over 15 years. He was past president of Sarasota/Manatee Roofing and Sheet Metal Association.. He served for 33 years with the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award.
Survivors include his wife, Karon Lamb of Bradenton, Fla.; sons, Timothy Slack of Cairo; Bobby Joe Lamb Jr. of East Hampton, Mass.; Lloyd Slack, Robert Slack and Edward Lamb, of Bradenton, Fla.; Paul Slack of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; daughters, Teresa Slack of Greensboro, N.C.; Duwanna Hummel of Manchester, Ohio; brothers, Henry Lamb of Taylor Ark.; Jimmy Holton of Blairsville; and Roy Holton of Bradenton, Fla.; sisters, Mary Sadler of Bradenton, Fla.; Gerri Gerling of Parrish, Fla.; Sue Ryan of Joppa, Ala.; Sandy Sanford of Resca; Gabetty Meek of Manchester, Ohio; and Frances Holton of Tampa, Fla.; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Johnnie D. Holley, 75

WADLEY-Funeral for Johnnie D. Holley, 75, was held Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Harrison officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn cemetery in Dellwood. He died Tuesday, May 27, 2004 at Medical College of Georgia Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Holley was a native of Toombs County and was the son of the late Elijah D. Holley Sr. and Emily Holley.
Survivors include a sister, Sarah H. Beard; half-sisters, June Lasher, Sharon Scott and Barbara Skipper; and a half-brother, Danny Holley.
Tomlinson Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Bobbie E. Grizzard Hart, 93

SWAINSBORO--Funeral for Mrs. Bobbie Estelle Grizzard Hart, 93, was held Friday, April 30, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary with Rev. Bill Thompson officiating. Burial was in Union Grove United Methodist Church cemetery near Midville. She died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Hart was a native of Laurens County and a homemaker. She was the wife of the late Arthur Eugene Hart.
Survivors include five daughters, Bernice McCoy of Twin City; Rosetta Hart and Frances Wilcher of Midville; and Rachel Outon and Zenomia Culver of Swainsboro; five sons, Alfred Hart of Midville; Stanley Hart and Danley Hart of Swainsboro; John Thomas Hart of Oak Park; and Willie Earl Hart of Dublin; a sister, Fletter Ivey of Lumber City; 33 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were grandsons and great-grandsons.
Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
