DUBLIN -- Stephen Anthony Sumowski, 31, died May 8.

He was born in Chicago. He was a transmission technician for Coastal Transmission and a Catholic.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Justice' Elizabeth Sumowski of Dublin; his mother, Helen C. Sumowski of Savannah; his grandmother, Jewel Tobolsky of Chicago; a brother, Robert Francis Sumowisi Jr., of Macon; godchildren, Amara Elizabeth Sumowski of Macon and Hypazia Tobolsky of Chicago; and several aunts and uncles.

MEMORIAL MASS: noon Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Burial will be private.

Ingleside Memorial Chapel, Macon.

Verna C. Thompson

Mrs. Verna Clotilde Thompson, 75, died May 9 at Heartland Health Care Center.

She was born in Lumberton, Miss., and lived in Savannah the past 63 years. She was the widow of William H. Thompson Jr. and was a homemaker. She was a member of Radiant Life Assembly of God Church and was active in the Ladies Adult Sunday School Class and the Women's Missionary Society.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, William H. Thompson III and Giovanna Thompson of Savannah; a daughter, Janice Clotilde Yates of Goose Creek, S.C.; two brothers, C.L. May of Savannah and R.E. May of Faulkville; a sister, Dorothy F. Stafford of Midway; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. today at Radiant Life Assembly of God Church, burial in Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.

Willie Washington Jr.

BURTON, S.C. -- Willie Washington Jr., 52, died May 5 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Beaufort County and was educated in the public schools of Beaufort and Bronx, N.Y. He graduated from the Technical School with a degree in brick masonry. He worked as an independent brick mason contractor for several years.

SURVIVORS: his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth W. Washington Pusha and Ezekiel Pusha of Burton; two brothers, Herbert L. Washington of Beaufort and Roger Washington of Tampa, Fla.; three sisters, Annette Gainey of Killeen, Texas, Bianca Washington of Walterboro and Valerie Rogers of Greenville, Tenn.; and other relatives.

WAKE SERVICE: 7-8 p.m. today at Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Home For Funerals, Beaufort.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Friday at Burton New Church of Christ, burial in Perriclair Cemetery, Ann's Point.

Jessie Williams Sr.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Jessie "Ned" Williams Sr., 85, died May 8 at Hilton Head Hospital.

He was born on Hilton Head Island and attended Beaufort County schools. He was a member of Central Oak Grove Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Florence Williams of Hilton Head Island; a daughter, Edith Greene of Hilton Head Island; a son, Jessie Williams Jr. of Hilton Head Island; four stepsons, Joe and Abe Grant and Moses Jenerette, all of Hilton Head Island, and Samuel Jenerette of Savannah; two stepdaughters, Elizabeth Washington of Hilton Head Island and Alice Frazier of Boston; two sisters, Laura Campbell and Sadie Green, both of Hilton Head Island; three brothers, James Williams of Savannah and Eugene Williams and Robert Williams, both of Hilton Head Island; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Saturday at Central Oak Grove Baptist Church, burial in Harbour Town Cemetery.

John Williams

ALBANY -- John Williams died May 6 at home.

He was a native of Albany and employed by Abigail Plantation. He was a member of St. Kline Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Jackie Mae Williams of Albany; a daughter, Gloria Ann Williams of Albany; three sisters, Cora Heyward and Gloria Ann Williams, both of Savannah, and Martha Williams of Hartford, Conn.; eight brothers, A.B. Williams, Johnny Williams, Ike Williams, Leroy Williams and Michael Williams, all of Albany, Bill Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., David and Arthur Williams, both of Savannah; three grandchildren and several other relatives.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Kline Baptist Church in Albany, burial in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.

Alexander Willis

Alexander Willis, 100, died May 8 at Tara Nursing Home.

He was born in Aiken, S.C. and lived in Savannah for several years.

Cynthia B. Wilson

PEMBROKE -- Cynthia Marie Brinson "Cindy" Wilson, 42, died May 8 at home.

She was a native of Chatham County and lived in Bryan County the past two years. She was a 1975 graduate of Key West High School and a 1977 graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University School of Nursing. She attended Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wilmington Island.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Jeremy Gall of Kissimmee, Fla., and Jonathan Gall of Savannah; her father, Jack Brinson of Pembroke; a brother, Charlie Brinson of Atlanta; her maternal grandmother, Heneritta Breitenbach of Savannah; and two great aunts.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at McLamb-Morrison Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday at McLamb-Morrison Funeral Home, burial in Northside City cemetery in Pembroke.

Doretha W. Wright

RIDGELAND -- Doretha Washington Wright, 72, died May 8 at Low Country General Hospital.

She was born in Ridgeland and was a homemaker and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: five sons, John H. Wright Jr., Robert L. Wright, Vernon Wright, Larry Wright and Kenneth Wright, all of Ridgeland; six daughters, Clara Holder of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Elizabeth Habersham and Sarah Habersham, Inez Jackson and Brenda Logan, all of Ridgeland, and Janie Mae Overton of Elizabeth City, N.C.; two brothers, Harold Washington of Ridgeland and Mack Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two sisters, Anna McBride of Miami and Eleanora Drake of Ridgeland; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-8 p.m. today at Sauls Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Friday at Mount Carmel Baptist Center in Ridgeland, burial in Log Haul Cemetery.

Edward C. Anderson

BROOKLET -- Edward C. Anderson, 80, died June 5 at home.

The Milwaukee native lived in Bulloch County the past 16 years. He was a master sergeant in the Air Force, a veteran and a Prisoner of War in World War II, having survived the Batan Death March. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Bronze Service Star and other medals.

SURVIVORS: four sons, Edward Michael Anderson, Kenneth Alan Anderson, Stanley Owen Anderson and Randall Wade Anderson, all of Brooklet; three daughters, Cheryl Jeanine Johnson of Guyton, Anna Marie Rice of Winter Lake, Fla., and Patricia Carol Woods of Brooklet; 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Hodges-Turner-Anderson Funeral Home, Statesboro.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Thursday in Bulloch Memorial Gardens.

Mary C. Bourne

Mary C. "Sassy" Bourne, 70, died June 4 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

The native of St. Augustine, Fla., was reared in Thunderbolt. She performed volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, the YMCA, was a Sunday school teacher and was instrumental in establishing the first full-time Navy Relief chapter on Okinawa She also oversaw marriage counseling and acculturation programs for U.S. military personnel marrying Japanese nationals.

She also served as executive officer of the Savannah Home Builders. For her leadership in the organization, Mayor John P. Rousakis proclaimed July 12, 1982, as "Mary C. Bourne Day." In 1995, she retired from a final job with Chatham County.

She was also a well-known artist.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Tymothe Leigh Larsgard of Savannah; sons, Sean Lee Bourne of Atlanta and Frank Joseph Bourne of Kennesaw; sisters, Sonja Canas of Savannah and Faye Bauman of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Nicholas James and Rosemary Julia Bourne, both of Atlanta, and Timothy Joseph Bourne and Audrey Melissa Shaw, both of Kennesaw; and several nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Her body was donated to the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

REMEMBRANCES: Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund, 12391 Mercy Blvd., Savannah, GA 31419; or The Salvation Army.

Beatrice B. Bruin

HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- Mrs. Beatrice M. Brinson Bruin, 69, died June 3 at Life Care of Hilton Head.

The Switzerland, S.C., native spent most of her life on Hilton Head Island. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and served as an usher and a choir directress.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Abraham L. Bruin Jr. of Bluffton; three daughters, Valrie Oliver, Delores Brinson and Elisabeth D. Brinson, all of Hilton Head Island; four sons, James Brinson Jr. of Bluffton, Ray A. Brinson of West Palm, Fla., John A. Brinson of Hilton Head Island and Joseph H. Brinson of Greenwood; a stepdaughter, Shirley M. Allen of Hilton Head Island; her mother, Elisabeth Spann Andrews; a sister, Mamie Lou Graves of Miami; a foster son, Dwayne J. Washington of Hilton Head Island; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

SERVICE: 11 a.m. today at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, burial in Union cemetery on Hilton Head Island.
