Roger D. Hogan

Roger Dale Hogan, 51, died Nov. 14 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Beckley, W.Va., and was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. He was employed by Home Depot as a sales associate. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 184 and Christ Presbyterian Church, formerly Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Mary Ann Ingram Hogan of Savannah; two sons, Michael A. and John M. Hogan, both of Savannah; a daughter, Sara E. Hogan of Savannah; his mother, Juanita Farley Hogan of Cocoa, Fla.; two brothers, Dan Hogan of Calhoun and John Hogan of Cocoa; two sisters, Ava Theodora Zieba and Ella North, both of Cocoa; and a number of nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at Christ Presbyterian Church, burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Gariel E. Hughes

Gariel Edwin Hughes, 85, died Nov. 16 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

He was born in Bryan County and was a carpenter. He was a member of New Life Baptist.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Ruth Hughes of Savannah; four daughters, Carol Kelley of Pooler, Polly Stewart of Pelzer, S.C., Dean Partain of Rincon and Lynette Moore of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Gladys Boyd of Guyton; a brother, Robert Hughes of Pembroke; 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 5-7 p.m. today at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Effingham Chapel.

SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Effingham Chapel, burial in Northside cemetery in Pembroke.

Catherine B. Humphrey

Catherine Barrett Humphrey, 82, died Nov. 17 at Chatham Nursing Home.

She was a native of Savannah and longtime resident of Long Island, N.Y. She attended St. Vincents Academy, was employed for 25 years with Huntington Penny Saver as officer manager and was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church on Tybee Island.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Barbara Blair of Brick, N.J.; a son, James B. Humphrey of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Mildred Jurgensen and Mary Barrett, both of Savannah; many nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

ROSARY SERVICE: 7 p.m. Sunday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.

FUNERAL SERVICE: 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial in Catholic Cemetery.

Martha D. Jarrell

RIDGELAND, S.C. -- Martha Dean Jarrell, 66, died Nov. 16 at St. Josephs Hospital in Savannah.

She was born in Ridgeland. She was billing supervisor at Palmetto Electric Cooperative in Ridgeland. She graduated from Winthrop College. She was an avid golfer, a member of the Sergeant Jasper Country Club and the Ladies Professional Golf Association. She was also a member of St. Pauls United Methodist Church.

SURVIVORS: a son, Robert G. Jarrell of Ridgeland; a daughter, Eleanor J. Gibbons of Okatie, S.C.; a grandson, J. Michael McNeil of Okatie and two granddaughters, Jessica and Jennifer Jarrell, both of Ridgeland.

VISITATION: 4-6 p.m. today at Sauls Funeral Home in Ridgeland.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 3 p.m. Sunday at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel, burial in Grahamville cemetery in Ridgeland.

Joseph D. Johnson

HARDEEVILLE -- Joseph D. Johnson, 59, died Nov. 16 at home.

He was born in Moultrie and was retired from the Air Force. He was a Vietnam veteran and was a member of Red Dam Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Juanita H. Johnson of Hardeeville; sons, Steven G. Johnson of Clanton, Ala., and Danny A. Johnson of Greensboro, N.C.; daughters, Cynthia D. Courtney of Walterboro, S.C., and Debra J. Hayes of Hardeeville; brothers, Lee Johnson Jr. of Pavo, Ga., and Jimmie N. Johnson of Wimauma, Fla.; sisters, Margaret Ellard of Palm Harbor, Fla., Juanita Davis of Valdosta, Ga., and Evelyn Culpepper of Augusta, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. Sunday at Sauls Funeral Home, Ridgeland.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 1:30 p.m. Monday in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort.

Rubye S. Kicklighter

REIDSVILLE -- Rubye S. Kicklighter died Nov. 16 at her home.

She was a Tattnall County native and had lived in Reidsville for many years. She was a homemaker and a retired public school teacher after 35 years of service. She had taught in Liberty, Bulloch and Tattnall Counties. She had attended Georgia Southern Teachers College. She was a member of The Georgia Retired Educator's Association, Tattnall County Retired Educator's Association and a member of Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Glennville. She was the widow of Roger Kicklighter.

SURVIVORS: a brother and sister in-law, L.E. and Ruth Strickland of Ludowici; seven nieces and three nephews.

VISITATION: 4-6 p.m. today at McCall Funeral Home, Inc. in Reidsville.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday at Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, burial to follow in the Church Cemetery.

Jerris R. McNabb

BRUNSWICK -- Jerris Rozier McNabb, 67, died Nov. 16 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Glynn County. She was a member of the Merry Widows Club, Glyndale Baptist Church and the church Friendship Sunday school class.

SURVIVORS: a son, Dale McNabb of Gainesville; a brother, Aubrey Rozier of Brunswick; a grandson, Peyton McNabb of Gainsville; several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home in Brunswick.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday at Glyndale Baptist Church, burial to follow in Palmetto Cemetery.

Maybelle Mervin

PRITCHARDVILLE, S.C. -- Maybelle Mervin, 80, died Nov. 13 in Hilton Head Hospital.

She was a native of Pritchardville and attended Beaufort County public schools. She was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: five sons, Sammie Marion and Johnny Mervin of Hilton Head, Henry Mervin of Bluffton and Eddie Mervin of Hawaii; two brothers, Woodrow Scott of Bluffton and Willie Brownlee of Atlanta; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 7-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17 at Stiney's Funeral Home Chapel in Hardeeville.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 1 p.m. today at St. Matthew Baptist Church in Pritchardville, burial in Purrysburg cemetery in Hardeeville.

Kristen D. Nagle

Kristen Diane Nagle, 34, died Nov. 10 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

A native of Amherst, Ohio, she had lived most of her life in Savannah and was a cosmetologist.

SURVIVORS: her mother and stepfather, Barbara W. Smith and John T. Smith, of Savannah; her father and stepmother, Michael C. Nagle and Barbara Nagle of Ocala, Fla.; two brothers, Dalton R. Nagle and Steven M. Nagle, both of Savannah; her maternal grandmother, Betty Stringfellow of Savannah; and several aunts and uncles.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: was held at 4 p.m. Monday at Bethesda Methodist Chapel.

Fountain Funeral Home, Port Wentworth.

Patricia S. Pace

STATESBORO -- Patricia S. Pace, 48, died Nov. 17 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

She was a professor of communication arts at Georgia Southern University, where she served as director of theater. She also served as director of performance/works and coordinated the Children's Theatre program at the university for a number of years.

She received her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University and her M.A. and B.A. degrees from Sonoma State University in California. She joined the Georgia Southern faculty in the Department of Communication Arts in 1985 as an assistant professor and was promoted twice. She recently was recognized by the University for an outstanding post-tenure review. She was on research sabbatical at the time of her death.

She was the author of numerous scholarly articles, reviews and chapters and was considered a leader in the research of performance studies. She was the author and director of "Wiregrass, " the official play of Bulloch County's Bicentennial celebration in 1996. She organized the inaugural Georgia Performance Festival, scheduled to be held in February of 2001 on St. Simons Island.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Richard Flynn of Statesboro; a stepson, Richard Nicholas Flynn of Greensboro, N.C.; her father, Thomas Pace of Carbondale, Ill.; her mother, Sue Dezendolet of Destin, Fla.; two brothers, the Rev. Thomas Pace III of Sugarland, Texas and John Bradley Pace of Carbondale; a sister, Jennifer Pace of Carbondale.

SERVICES: final arrangements are pending.
