Paul F. Mess

Father Paul F. Mess, 85, died Oct. 11 at Candler Hospital.

He was a native of Harrison, N.J. and a graduate of Catholic University School of Theology in Washington, D.C. He was ordained to the Roman Catholic Priesthood by Archbishop Spellman at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and was a Franciscan Friar of the Atonement at Grayomoor in Garrison, N.Y. He had been assistant pastor at St. Teresa's Parish in Albany and chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital in Augusta. He also had taught exceptional children in the Savannah-Chatham School System.

SURVIVORS: many friends including, Fay Ann Brown of Richmond Hill, James and Joan Gilliamsen of Savannah, Father Herbert Wellmeier of Richmond Hill, and Beverly Gulick of Rose of Sharon.

VIGIL SERVICE: 4 p.m. today at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Drayton Chapel.

FUNERAL MASS: 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, burial in Catholic Cemetery.

Joann M. Moore

STATESBORO - Joann Mills Moore, 42, died Oct. 14 at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.

The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was employed by Kentucky Fried Chicken in Statesboro for 25 years. She was of the Baptist faith.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Donnie Moore of Statesboro; her mother, Ruby Mills of Statesboro; two sisters, Melrose Stills of Rocky Ford and Juanita Fulmore of Garfield; three brothers, John Mills, Carl Mills and Charles Mills, all of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Monday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, burial in Finch Cemetery.

Henry Reed

Henry Reed died Tuesday, October 8, at Hollywood Memorial Hospital, Hollywood, FL. The Jenkins County native was affiliated with the Gordon Grove Baptist Church of Millen. For the past 31 years, he provided a loving home for his family in Broward County, FL. During his residence there, he established a 25-year tenure as a construction worker with State Paving. Survivors: a loving wife, Vernell Reed; two devoted daughters, Brenda Nell Grate (Nick) and Patricia Reed of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; two sons, Henry Lee and Rickey Lee Reed of Ft. Lauderdale; one stepson, James Lee Henry (Lorie) of El Paso, TX; eight grandchildren; a sister, Annie Mae Long of Rocky Ford; a brother, Charlie Frank Reed of Statesboro; five uncles; four aunts; three sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Jolene Denmark, 59, of Savannah, entered into quiet rest to meet her Lord on October 9 at St. Josephs Hospital. She was born August 25, 1943, in Chatham County to John Preston Graham and Beatrice Kennedy Graham. She lived all her life in the Savannah area. Collins- Margie Holland Cowart Swiatko, 69, died Thursday October 10, at St. Josephs Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native lived most of her life there. She was a member of Rogers Baptist Church over 25 years and was a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. She was a former teacher of adults and children at the Tattnall-Evans Training Center in Manassas. She was a homemaker. Survivors: husband, Paul T. Swiatko of Collins; sons, Danny C. and Glenn A. Hugh Cates

Hugh Cates, 74, of Savannah, died Thursday, October 10, at his residence, following a long illness. He was born in Waynesboro and lived in Savannah for more than 60 years. After 45 years of service, he retired from Union Camp in the Mill Technical Department as an Area Manager. He was retired from the U. S. National Guard, after 20 years of active-duty service. He was a member of Windsor Forest Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Lions Club of Savannah. Gina W. Nowell

ATLANTA - Gina White Nowell, 38, died Oct. 11 at Kaizer Health Center.

She was a native of Fairfield, Calif. She resided on Hilton Head Island for several years during her youth and was a 1979 graduate of H.E. McCracken High School. She was a 1983 graduate of Furman University in Greenville, S.C., with a degree in music education. At the time of her death, she was a 17-year resident of Atlanta where she was employed by Atlanta Public School System as an Instructional Technology Supervisor. She was an active member of Redemption Fellowship where she was a Sunday school teacher.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Darrie Nowell of Atlanta; a daughter, Dara Nowell of Atlanta; a son, Jonathan Nowell of Atlanta; her parents, Perry and Barbara White of Hilton Head Island; three sisters, Vedrene White of Stone Mountain, Valerie Grier of Forsyth and Venita Barnette of Eatontown, N.J.; a nephew Andre White of Charlotte, N.C.; her maternal grandmother, Fannie Griffin of Albany; and other relatives.

FUNERAL: Noon Monday at St. James Baptist Church, Hilton Head Island, burial in Union Cemetery.

Ollis L. Ricks

Ollis Lynnton Ricks, 78, died Oct. 14 at Hospice Savannah.

He was a native of Rockledge and had lived in Savannah for many years. He was the widower of Bonnie Williams Ricks. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Army Corp of Engineers, having served as Chief of the Surveying Section for more than 38 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: a son, O. Greg Ricks of Savannah; three daughters, Bonnie R. Davis of Mount Airy, Md., Kelley R. McDonald of Dallas and Janet R. Picott of Savannah; three sisters, Ann Lee and Joyce McGee both of Savannah, and Etta Johnson of Dublin; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.
