Robert L. Bedingfield

MILLEN - Robert Lee Bedingfield, 77, died Dec. 1 at Azalealand Nursing Home in Savannah under hospice care.

He was born in Jenkins County and retired from Southern Bell Telephone and was owner of Bedingfield Grocery. He was a member of Millen Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was past commander American Legion Post No. 188 and a member of Millen Lions Club, Magnolia County Club and Carey Thompson Sunday School Class. He fought for the 34th Infantry Division, 168th Infantry in Northern Africa, Sicily and Italy before being wounded in combat outside Rome.

SURVIVORS: a son and a daughter-in-law, Robert Forest and Claire Davenport Bedingfield of Columbus; a daughter and a son-in-law, Karen Bedingfield and James L. Pannell of Savannah; and a sister, Lenora B. Bell of Waynesboro; and four grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Crowe-Fields Funeral Home in Millen.

SERVICE: 2 p.m Sunday at Millen Baptist Church in Millen, burial in Millen Cemetery.

Timothy Chisolm

HILTON HEAD ISLAND - Timothy Chisolm, 16, died Nov. 28 at Hilton Head Hospital.

The Hilton Head Island native was a 9th grade student at Hilton Head High School.

SURVIVORS: his mother, Vivian Chisolm of Hilton Head Island; his father, Joe Simmons of Daufuskie; a brother, Anthony Chisolm of Hilton Head Island; a sister, Theresa Chisolm of Hilton Head Island; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Chisolm Sr., of Hilton Head Island; and aunts and uncles.

Gary Cooper

Gary Cooper died Nov. 30 at Memorial Health University Medical Center.

He was born in Savannah.

SURVIVORS: two sisters, Ortiz and Mary Douglas, both of Savannah; an uncle, Frank Williams Sr., of Savannah; an aunt, Clara Williams of Savannah; and four brothers, Frank Williams Jr., and Prince Golphin, both of Savannah, Lewis Golphin of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Joseph Golphin of Miami.

Helen G. Dean

HINESVILLE - Helen L. Goolsby Dean, 70, died Nov. 30 at her Long County home.

The Baker County native had lived in Hinesville for the past 10 years and recently moved to the Rye Patch Community in Long County. She was employed by the Ramada Inn Motel in Port Wentworth as a motel auditor. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

SURVIVORS: two sons, Jesse W. Dean and Rickie Dean, both of Hinesville; a daughter, Carol Dean of Hinesville; a brother, Carl Goolsby of Newton; two sisters, Virginia Sheffield of Patmos and Charlene Goolsby of Albany; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. today at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Hinesville.

Burial will be private.

Charles H. Dickson Sr.

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Charles H. Dickson Sr. died Nov. 29 at home.

He was born in Kingsport and moved back in 1998. He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and was employed by Allstate Insurance Co., retiring in 1996 in Savannah after 42 years of service. In Savannah he was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a former member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon, board chairman and a trustee. He was a member of Savannah Exchange Club and was an athletic official for the Georgia High School Association for 25 years. He was also a member of Savannah Yacht Club and The Landings Club.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Ann Lindsey Dickson; two sons, Charles Hicks Dickson Jr. of Augusta, Ga., and David Lindsey Dickson Sr. of Rome, Ga.; two sisters, Louise Dickson Hawk and Peggy Dickson Harvey; a brother, Bill Dickson of Kingsport; four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. todayin Oak Hill Cemetery.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Eugene D. Eason

GLENNVILLE - Eugene D. Eason, 66, died Nov. 30 at his home.

He was born in Tattnall County and attended the public schools in Tattnall County. He was a lifelong resident of Glennville. He was a truck driver for the Tatum Brothers and the Mascot Pecan Company in Glennville. He was an Usher Board Member of the First African Baptist Church in Glennville.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Mary Linda Eason of Glennville; three daughters, Lorna King of Glennville, Felicia Jones of Phenix City, Ala. and Judy McClarty of Hinesville; five sons, Theron Eason of College Park, Bernard Eason, Larry Eason Sr., Terry Eason and Nickolas Eason, all of Glennville; four sisters, Geraldine Williams of Troy, N.Y., Zelma Caswell of Newcastle, Del., Nellie Cook of Somerset, N.J. and Bernice Caswell of New York City; three brothers, Marcus Eason of South Hill, Va., Clinton Eason of Valdosta and John Calvin Dinkins of Cleveland, Ohio; 11 grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Sunday at King and Son's Funeral Home in Glennville.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Monday at First African Baptist Church, burial in church cemetery.

Billy J. Griffin

HAZLEHURST - Billy Joe Griffin, 47, died Nov. 30.

He was a lifelong resident of Jeff Davis County and was employed with Buddy Price Construction.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Constance Griffin and Miranda Griffin, both of Alamo; two sisters, Arlene Griffin and Emily Toler, both of Hazlehurst; six brothers, Varon Griffin of Baxley, Edward Griffin of Bainbridge, Cecil Griffin, Sam Griffin, Steve Griffin and Randall Griffin, all of Hazlehurst and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews .

VISITATION: beginning at 6 p.m. today at Miles Funeral Home, Hazlehurst.

SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday at Miles Funeral Home, burial in Mount Zion Cemetery, Jeff Davis County.

Kenneth C. Heath

DARIEN - Kenneth Clyde Heath, 63, died Nov. 30 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

The Macon native had lived in Alabama and worked for the Alabama Department of Transportation until moving to Glynn and McIntosh Counties in 1995. He was a member of the Darien Church of God.

SURVIVORS: Ruth Rozier Heath of Darien; three sons, Mike Heath of Brunswick, Steve Heath of St. Simons and Rusty Clark of Darien; two daughters, Tracy Keller of Brunswick and Jackie Willingham of St. Simons; a sister, Ginger Heath of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Chapman Funeral Chapel in Brunswick.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2 p.m. Sunday in Plum Orchard cemetery in Darien.

Wayman L. Howell

HOLT, Fla. - Wayman B. Howell, 54, died Nov. 29 at West Florida Regional Medical Center in Pensacola, Fla.

The Hazlehurst native had been a resident of the northwest Florida area for the past 27 years. He was employed by the Civil Service as a flight engineer. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of the VFW, DAV, American Legion, Masons and Shriners.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Ruth Howell of Holt; sons and daughters-in-law, Chris Howell of Raleigh, N.C., Taron Howell of Holt, Steve and Glenda Stokes of Paxton, Fla., and John and Christy Windham of Paxton, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Alicia and Jeff Manuszak of Wake Forest, N.C., and Angel and Daryl Bess of Holt; his mother, Lavonia Howell of Savannah, Ga.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Denise and Johnny Tyler of Savannah, and Debra and Eric Hall of Denver; and five grandchildren.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. today at Whitehurst Funeral Home in Crestview.

A private family burial will follow the service in the Paxton cemetery in Paxton.

Jeanette W. Kirkland

MIDVILLE - Jeanette Wiggins Kirkland, 47, died Dec. 1 at home.

The Appling County native was employed with Emanuel County Board of Education and attended Union Primitive Baptist Church near Swainsboro.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Bill Kirkland of Midville; a daughter, Christy McNure of Swainsboro; a son, Darrell McNure of Midville; seven sisters, Shirley Coleman of Swainsboro, Catherine Kirby of Nunez, Doris E. McNure of Rutledge, Dolly Mitchell of Tignall, Susan Cox of Social Circle, Vicki Pullen of Adrian and Dora Riner of Midville; and four brothers, Corbin Wiggins of Midville, Riner, Joe and Buster Wiggins, all of Swainsboro.

VISITATION: 5-8 p.m. today at Peebles-Curry-Durden Mortuary in Swainsboro.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Sunday at Union Primitive Baptist Church near Swainsboro, burial in the church cemetery.
