Willis Kilgore

YEMASSEE, S.C. -- Willis Kilgore, 76, died Feb. 28 at home.

He was born in Laurens County and was a former member of Center Rabun Baptist Church in Gray Count and a member of St. Jude Apostolic Church in Yemassee. He lived in Syracuse, N.Y., and Silver Spring, Md., most of his life and in Yemassee since retiring.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Virginia Garner Kilgore of Yemassee; five daughters, Joeanne Green Davis, Jeanette Hudson and Earliane Anthony, all of Syracuse, Mildred Benton of Landover, Md., and Danette Kenon of Decatur; a son, Elliott H. Kilgore of Upper Marlboro, Md.; an adopted daughter, Rosaline Cosby of Hayward, Calif.; four brothers, L.B. Kilgore of Simpsonville, S.C., G.W. Kilgore, Robert Kilgore and Doffus Kilgore, all of Gray Court; a stepbrother, Jodie Choice of Fountain Inn; 21 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and other relatives.

FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Friday at Center Rabun Baptist Church, Gray Court.

VISITATION: 11 a.m. Saturday at Young Funeral Home, burial in St. Jude Cemetery, Yemassee.

Ira Leverett

JESUP -- Ira "Belle" Leverett, 59, died Feb. 29 at Beverly Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Ware County and lived in Wayne County for the past few years.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Beth Shipes of Odum; a son, Alan Huggins of Fitzgerald; two brothers, Earl Leverett of Jesup and Edward Leverett of Davie, Fla.; a sister, Marie Adkins of Okeechobee, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

VISITATION: 10 a.m.-noon today at Rinehart & Sons Funeral Home, Jesup.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 3 p.m. today in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery.

Louise W. Mock

Mrs. Louise Williams Mock, 87, died March 1 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.

She was born in Eldora and was a longtime resident of Pooler. She was a homemaker.

SURVIVORS: a son and daughter-in-law, Madison O. Mock Jr. and Debra Mock of Macon; two sisters, Betty King of Eldora and Peggy Leonard of St. Augustine, Fla.; three grandchildren, Gena Louise Micca of Tallahassee, Fla., Christopher Mock of Macon and Rebecca Mock Brewer of Hinesville; and five great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. Friday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Massey Chapel in Garden City.

FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Saturday at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Massey Chapel, burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.

Daniel Mumford Jr.

Daniel Mumford Jr., 70, died March 1 at Memorial Health University Medical Center from injuries received in a pedestrian-auto accident .

He was born in Garden City and educated in the Savannah-Chatham School System. He was a retired lift truck driver from Hercules Chemical Plant and an Army veteran.

SURVIVORS: daughters, Ethel L. Mumford of Garden City and Carolyn M. Mumford of Savannah; sons, James Harvey of Atlanta and Alfonso Mumford of New Orleans; sisters, Louise Green of Columbia, S.C., and Minnie Johnson of Savannah; and a brother, Aubrey S. Mumford of Savannah.

Julian I. Needleman

Julian I. Needleman, 73, died Feb. 29 at home.

He was born in North Carolina and was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He helped to set up the first experimental M.A.S.H. Unit. He was the owner and CEO of C-Thru Products Inc. and lived in Savannah for the past three years. He was a member of William B. Hackenburg, Mount Moriah Lodge No. 155, F&AM, in Pennsylvania, Boy Scouts of America, Forest City Gun Club, The Landings Yacht Club, Citizens for Florida Waterways, skeet shooting and a fishing enthusiast. He was an advocate for conservation causes and Printing Craftsmen of Pennsylvania.

SURVIVORS: his wife of 51 years, Hilda Needleman of Savannah, Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Penn Valley, Pa.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Stephen Caputi of Westmont, N.J., and Sandra and Michael Fisher of Winfield, Pa.; a sister, Shirley Needleman of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Sunday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel and in Philadelphia at a later date.

Sheila Y. Reese

HINESVILLE -- Ms. Sheila Marie Yalledy Reese, 50, died Feb. 27 at Hospice Savannah in Savannah.

She was a native of Miami, a nurses' aide and attended Agape Christian Fellowship Church in Hinesville.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Kimberly Vereen of Fort Hood, Texas; sons, Vincent Austin, Robert Lee Yalledy Jr., and Gabriel Yalledy, all of Hinesville; sisters, Deborah Mayo, Wanda Jones, Carla Fernandez and Denise Burnam, all of Hinesville, Hortense Lee of Miami and Kathy Jefferson of Norwich, Conn.; brothers, Arthur Austin of Philadelphia, Kenneth Austin of Miami and Saberon Fernandez of Hinesville; and 11 grandchildren.

VISITATION: 6-7 p.m. Friday at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.

SERVICES: 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Hinesville, burial in Oglethorpe Memorial Park in Hinesville.

Corene W. Roberts

Corene Welch Roberts, 71, died Feb. 29 at Tara at Thunderbolt Nursing Center.

She was born in Millhaven and attended the Screven County and Chatham County school systems. She was a retired nutritionist from Chatham County Extension Service and was a member of Townsley Chapel AME Church.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Lynn Cross Bryant and Novella Cross Holmes, both of Savannah; three stepdaughters, Delores Cardriche and Tonya Roberts, both of Savannah and Evonne Martin of Reidsville; a son, Eric A. Welch of Wallkill, N.Y.; two stepsons, Atrice Roberts of Savannah and Thaddeus Roberts of Abilene, Texas; three brothers, Mose Welch of Sardis, Lucious Welch of Savannah and Lonnie Welch of Phoenix.

Azalee Simmons

BAXLEY -- Azalee Simmons, 90, died Feb. 29 at home.

She was a lifelong resident of Appling County, a homemaker and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: two sisters, Nora Davis of Patterson and Willie Mae Williams of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Alvin and Walter Clark, both of Baxley; and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. today at David E. Miles Funeral Home.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Friday at David E. Miles Funeral Home, burial in Zoar Cemetery.

FORT VALLEY -- Laura Isabelle Carson Thomas, 85, died Feb. 29.

She was born in Colleton County, S.C. She was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist Church of Beaufort.

SURVIVORS: a daughter, Marian Mapel of Fort Valley; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

VISITATION: 10-11 a.m. Friday at the Baptist Church of Beaufort.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday at the Baptist Church of Beaufort, burial in Beaufort National Cemetery.

Charles Ira Tillman

AUGUSTA -- Charles Ira Tillman, 85, died Feb. 29 at the Veterans Administration War Time Veterans Nursing Home.

He was a native of Pierce County and the widower of Cletha Rigdon Tillman. He was retired from the Air Force after 20 years and later retired from Independent Life Insurance Co.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Mrs. Robert Hunter of Augusta and Shirley Nolan of Savannah; a sister, Faye Boatright of Alma; a brother, Carl Tillman of Blackshear; three grandchildren, Larry and Amy Nolan, and Elizabeth Hunter; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

VISITATION: begins at 6 p.m. today at Dixon-Bowen-Taylor Funeral Home in Blackshear.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at Bristol Baptist Church, burial in the Bristol Cemetery.

Reginald Anthony Walker, 46, died Feb. 29 at Candler Hospital.

He was born in Savannah and was an Army veteran. He was a member of Litway Baptist Church and the choir. He was a mailroom attendant at Savannah Morning News.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Susie Walker of Savannah; a daughter, Deadra Walker of Savannah; a son, Adrian Carter of Hawaii; his mother, Ethel Coleman Walker of Savannah; his father, John Wesley Walker of Savannah; a sister, Kim L. Wilson of Atlanta; and his maternal grandmother, Alice Baker of Savannah.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Saturday at Litway Baptist Church, burial in Woodville Cemetery.

s. Roxie Christine Lettow Wainwright, 72, died March 1 at Candler Hospital.

She was born in Egypt and was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. She had formerly worked for the U.S. District Court as a financial deputy.

SURVIVORS: her husband, Jesse L. Wainwright of Savannah; two stepsons, William F. Wainwright and Victor L. Wainwright, both of Savannah; a stepdaughter, Jessica Bridge Spivey of Savannah; her mother, Ruby C. Seckinger of Savannah; an aunt, Louise C. Mallard of Savannah; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, burial in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
