Isaiah Ricks Jr., 76, died Oct. 21 at Candler Hospital.

The Edenton, N.C., native lived in Savannah for 35 years. He attended Edenton schools and was a retired supervisor of city of Savannah landscapers. He was an Army veteran and a member of Bethel AME Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Catherine Ricks of Savannah; two daughters, Beverly Howell of Savannah and Helena Jones of Clayton, Del.; two sons, Alexander Hester and Kelvin Ricks, both of Savannah; a sister, Sarah Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y.; two brothers, Wallace Ricks of Brooklyn and Robert Lee Ricks of Edenton; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Catherine W. Shell

Mrs. Catherine Lillian Wallace Shell, 91, died Oct. 22 at Azalealand Convalescent Center.

She was born in Hagan and reared in Statesboro. In 1931, she graduated from Shorter College in Rome and taught school for several years. She moved to Savannah in 1936 and was the widow of Robert Burge Shell.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, the Joy Circle and other church organizations.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Eleanor S. Kiel of Alpharetta and Gwendolyn S. Alexander of Savannah; and two grandchildren, Catherine Ann Cheek and Leighton Shanks Cheek, both of Savannah.

VISITATION: 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home, Hodgson Memorial Chapel.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 3 p.m. today in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

Mattie B. Thaxton

PHILADELPHIA -- Mattie B. Thaxton, 87, died Oct. 18 at the Presbyterian Home.

She was born in Liberty County, Ga., and lived in Philadelphia most of her life. She was educated at Dorchester Academy and did further study at Georgia State Industrial College. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Riceboro Presbyterian Church in Riceboro and First African Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia.

SURVIVORS: two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy Epps of Philadelphia and the Rev. Willie B. Williams and Elder Leona Henley Williams of Savannah; a brother and sister-in-law, Ulysses and Henrietta Bacon of Union Point, Pa.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

SERVICE: 11 a.m. Thursday at First African Presbyterian Church, burial in Eden cemetery in Collingdale.

Beverly M. Thomas

ST. SIMONS ISLAND -- Beverly M. Thomas, 82, died Oct. 22 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick.

The Birmingham, Ala., native was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica. She served in the Medical Arts Auxiliary, and was a representative to the Georgia Silver-Haired Legislature and the Silver-Haired Congress in Washington, D.C.

SURVIVORS: a daughter and son-in-law, Gayle and Dr. William E. Disque of St. Simons Island; two sisters, Mae Hinton and Evelyn Foster, both of Birmingham; a brother, Dr. Houston McLendon of Birmingham; two grandchildren, Ashley Disque-Jenkins of Charlotte, N.C., and Bradley Disque of Atlanta; a great-granddaughter, Peyton Jenkins of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: 6-8 p.m. today at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick.

FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Thursday at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home, burial in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.

Idell F. Thompson

BRUNSWICK -- Mrs. Idell Franklin Thompson, 80, died Oct. 21 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

The Screven County native lived in Glynn County the past 65 years. She was a member of United Pentecostal Church, the fund-raising committee and other groups of the church. She was associated with Glynn County Little League and Ballard Recreation Department for many years.

SURVIVORS: her husband, John B. Thompson of Brunswick; a son, Terry L. Thompson of Brunswick; a daughter, Martha Nell Ogden of Brunswick; a sister, Betty Pope of Brunswick; two brothers, J.W. Franklin and Jimmy E. Franklin, both of Brunswick; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICE: 2 p.m. today at United Pentecostal Church, burial in Chapel Park Cemetery.

Allen D. Webster

BRUNSWICK -- Allen Daniel Webster, 64, died Oct. 21 at Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center.

The New York native lived in Glynn County since 1963. He was the owner of Golden Isles Ceramic Tile for 33 years. He served in the Marine Corps and National Guard Reserves, was a member of Marine Corps League and served as chief of the Volunteer Rescue Squad for 14 years. He attended Southside Baptist Church.

SURVIVORS: his wife, Julie Webster of Brunswick; a daughter, Barbara Rogers of Victoria, Texas; two sons, Danny and David Webster, both of Brunswick; a stepdaughter, Denise Hipchen of Brunswick; two sisters, Roberta Drake of Hornell, N.Y., and Loretta Conderman of Scio, N.Y.; three brothers, Dean and Ed Webster, both of Brunswick and Alfred Baham of Angelica, N.Y.; a grandson and three stepgranddaughters.

VISITATION: 7-9 p.m. today at Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home, Brunswick.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church, burial in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Randall L. Williams

Randall Lamont Williams, 21, died Oct. 21 at Hospice Savannah.

He was a native of St. Helena Island, S.C., and lived in Savannah most of his life. He attended the public schools of Chatham County.

He attended First Ebenezer Baptist Church on St. Helena Island. He played football with the Forsythe Flames.

SURVIVORS: his mother, Patricia Ann Williams of Savannah; his father, James Edward Williams of St. Helena Island; three brothers, James Jabbar, Darrin Sylvester Williams and George Anthony Williams, all of St. Helena Island; a sister, Demetria Williams of Savannah; his maternal grandmother, Rosa L. Brown of Savannah; seven aunts, three grandaunts, seven uncles, two granduncles and several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Betty Jane Woods

ELMFORD, N.Y. -- Betty Jane Woods, 62, died Oct. 17 at home.

She was born in Ridgeland and educated in the Jasper County, S.C., school system. She was a former member of Gillison Branch Baptist Church. In 1959, she moved to New York City and for over 33 years worked in the Classified Department at the Westchester News. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Elmford.

SURVIVORS: two daughters, Saundra Woods of Ridgeland and Tearwornia Alleyne of Elmford; two sisters, Janie Walker of Pineland, S.C., and Mary Martin of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Charles and Edward Woods, both of Ridgeland; and four grandsons.

FUNERAL: was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Elmford.

VISITATION: noon-1 p.m. Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, Coosawhatachie, S.C., burial in King cemetery in Grahamville, S.C.

Bloomingdale - Inez Turner Conaway, 87, died Friday, Nov. 30 at Hermina Traeye Nursing Center on Johns Island, SC. The Chatham County native was a member of the Westside Christian Church, the Pooler Garden Club and had done volunteer work in the local Nursing Homes. She retired as a Cosmetologist. Survivors: daughters, Linda Gaines of Charleston, SC and Diann Fyfe of Savannah; son, Earl L. Conaway of Bloomingdale; brother, Wesley S. Evelyn Elizabeth Moore, 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Heritage Park Nursing Center. She was a native of Screven County, Sylvania and was a resident of Savannah most of her life. She attended the public schools of Sylvania and was employed at the Catholic Diocese of Savannah as clerk for a number of years. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where she served as member and president of the Willing Workers Organization and member of the NAACP. Survivors: sister, Mary Williams of Savannah; aunt, Sadie Pierce of Atlanta; uncle, Wade Ponder of Savannah; brother-in-law, John H.
