William Brewer Maye, 88
KITE - Funeral services for Mr. William Brewer Maye, 88, was held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2006 at New Home Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. Bill Snipes and Rev. Burton Dixon officiated.
Born in Glascock County, Mr. Maye was the son of the late James and Emmar Martin Maye. He was the former owner/operator of Maye's Machine Shop. He was a member of New Home Baptist Church where he served as deacon for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a member of the 58th Signal Batallion that supplied communications for I - Core. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star for combat duty, the American Defense Service medal, the Good Conduct medal, the European - African Middle - Eastern Campaign medal, the Efficiency, Honor and Fidelity medal, and a Machine Gun Expert medal. He was a member of the American Legion, where he served as an officer, Anderson Masonic Lodge, and the New Home Baptist Church Brotherhood. Mr. Maye also was the Soil Conservationist of the Year for Johnson County in 1980 and was a former county commissioner of Johnson County. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Tenella Harrison Maye and his son - inlaw, the late Randall Tanner. Mr. Maye passed away Wednesday morning following an extended illness.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Tanner of Kite; grandson, Brack Tanner of Kite; and a granddaughter, Nan (Will) Tanner of Wrightsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bobby Fortner, Todd Fortner, Danny Fortner, Floyd Collins, Dean Mosher and John Garrett. Honorary escorts were members of the New Home Baptist Church Senior Adult Sunday school class, American Legion and the Anderson Masonic Lodge.
Stanley Funeral Home of Wrightsville had charge of the arrangements.

Henry Frank Kirkland, 100
SUMMERTOWN - Funeral for Henry Frank Kirkland, 100, was held Monday, Aug. 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Summertown Baptist Church with Rev. Leonard Quick, Elder Tommy Rountree and Rev. Ed Thompson officiating. Burial was in Kirkland Family Cemetery. He died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006 at Emanuel County Nursing Home.
Mr. Kirkland was born on Aug. 7, 1906 to the late Benjamin Lane and Elizabeth Spence Kirkland. He had lived in Emanuel County all his life. He was retired from the State of Georgia with Department of Agriculture. He served as secretary/treasurer of Emanuel County Democratic Party, Emanuel County Draft Board and was town clerk of Summertown. He was a trustee of Summertown High School. Mr. Kirkland also worked as a farmer and merchant of Summertown. He loved hunting, especially deer hunting. He was the last of 13 children. He was a faithful member of Summertown Baptist Church for 78 years and was a deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lessie Mae Kirkland; his second wife, Lois Kirkland; a daughter, Joyce Kirkland; and one grandson, Kirk Womack.
Survivors include a son, Joe Kirkland and wife, Linda, of Summertown; three stepsons, David, Wayne and Larry Patrick; three daughters, Betty Jones and husband, Clifford of Waynesboro; Minnie Kate "Breezy" Underwood and husband, Claude of Griffin; and Bennie Francine Lang and husband, Terry of Pensacola, Fla.; 14 grandchildren, Cale Womack, and wife, Ellen; Karen Smalley, Carey Jones, Carol Jones, Kip Jones, Jo Maelisa Jones, Tina Anchor and husband, Mike; Bill Underwood and wife, Joanne; Sidney Underwood, Joey Kirkland and wife, Janet; Eric Kirkland and wife, Deanna; Jillian Grace Kirkland, Diane Winslow and Stoney Rowland; 21 greatgrandchildren, five greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Summertown Baptist Church Building Fund, 123 Underwood Loop, Swainsboro, GA 30401; and Georgia Baptist Children's Home, 505 Water Works Rd., Palmetto, GA 30268 - 1253.

Randolph Jones, 80
SWAINSBORO - Funeral for Randolph Jones, 80, was held Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Peebles - Curry - Durden with the Rev. Herman Walden and Rev. Ervin Stapelton officiating. Burial was in Lamb cemetery near Kite with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating. He died Sept. 2, 2006 at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing home after an extended illness.
Mr. Jones was a native of Emanuel County and a member Hebron Baptist Church. He was retired from Creston Industries with 35 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Jones of Swainsboro; his son, Randy Jones of Swainsboro; two sisters, Sybil Haywood of Clear Water Fla.; and Louise Jones of Augusta; one brother, Donald Jones of Summertown; one grandchild and one great - grandchild.
Pallbearers were Thurmond Bishop, Van Irvin, Scotty Jones, Mark Amerson, Steve Jones, Mitch Jackson.

Lucille Hooks, 62
SWAINSBORO - Funeral for Lucille Hooks, 62, will be held Wednesday Sept. 6, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Peebles - Curry Durden with Donald Lee Hooks officiating. She died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at the Community Hospice in Vidalia after an extended illness.
Ms. Hooks was a native of Emanuel County. She was preceded in death by her father Esry Hooks.
Survivors include her mother, Jane Neil of Swainsboro; two sisters, Nancy Scarboro of Swainsboro; and Martha Conley of Swainsboro; one sisterin law, Marie Hooks of Nunez; one brother, Jimmy Hooks of Nunez; and one aunt, Gladys Corbin of Swainsboro.
Peebles - Curry - Durden Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

James Edward Meade, 71
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. - Funeral for James Edward Meade, 71, was held Monday, June 12, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of PeeblesCurry - Durden Mortuary with Rev. Ronnie Collins officiating. Burial was in Old Canoochee Cemetery. He died Friday, June 9, 2006, at the UF and Shands Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. after a brief illness.
Mr. Meade was a native of Honaker, Va., was a retired tree surgeon and an Army Veteran of the Korean War Era.
Survivors include his companion, Angela Chazira and her children Tony Valuenza, and Frank Valuenza of Jacksonville, Fla.; his former wife and mother of his children, Jessie Nell Jones of Twin City; two daughters, Brenda Haller of Washington State and Hazel Youmans of Twin City; three sons, James G. Meade of Stillmore; Ronnie Meade and David Meade of Twin City; one brother, Dillard Meade of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and eight great - grandchildren.

Johnny L. Lamb, 84
COCHRAN - Funeral for Johnny L. Lamb, 84, will be held Wednesday, June 14, 2006 at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Southern Heritage Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Lamb's Chapel Cemetery. He died Monday, June 12, 2006 at Community Hospice in Vidalia after a brief illness.
Mr. Lamb was preceded in death by his wife, Malvertta Lamb.
Survivors include his brother, Emmitt Lamb of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Lamb, Travis Lamb, Jimmy Sumter, Ronnie Turner, Kevin Peebles and Bryan Kilgore.

Anna Maude Saunders Kersey, 76
STILLMORE - Funeral for Anna Maude Saunders Kersey, 76, was held Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Rev. Bert Flanders and Rev. Charles Beasley officiating. Burial was in Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro. She died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Metter Nursing Home.
Mrs. Kersey was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Rebecca Rowe; two husbands, A.J. Saunders and G.W. Brown; several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her husband, Dan Kersey of Stillmore; daughters and sons - in - law, Patricia and Ted Williams of Portal; Helen and Bill Hardiman of Metter; and Betty Jo and Tod Smith of Twin City; five grandchildren and a spouse, Andrew and Jamey Bazemore, Ronad Bazemore, Rebecca Bazemore, Ted Williams Jr. and William Hardiman; a great - grandchild, Aerin Bazemore; three stepchildren and spouses, Tony and Debbie Kersey of Geneva, Fla.; Diane Salter of Metter; and Christina and James Meade of Metter; nine stepgrandchildren, 11 step great grandchildren; a sister, Willena Hagans of Stilson; a brother, Wilton Rowe of Statesboro; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jamie Hagans, Jimmy Hagans, Mike Childs, Travis Cobb, Frank Sherrod, Al Brown and Tommy Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Franklin Sherrod, Walter Crawford and James Sutton.

James DeWitt Cullars, 85
SWAINSBORO - Funeral for James DeWitt Cullars, 85, was held Sunday, June 11, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Blundale Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer officiating. Burial was in Forest Lawn cemetery in Dellwood. He died Thursday, June 8, 2006 in Milledgeville.
Mr. Cullars was a native of Emanuel County and a retired Sears store owner. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Blundale Baptist Church where he was a deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Nell Scott Cullars of Swainsboro; son and daughter - in - law, James Glenn and Joyce Cullars of Milledgeville; daughter and son - in - law, Debra C. and Tom Sifford of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sisters, Lilian Long and Sarah Dial of Covington; and Doris Greene of Macon; six grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jack McCullough and grandsons.

Lori Ivey, 24
BREMEN - Funeral for Lori Ivey, 24, was held Friday., June 2, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Camp Creek Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery. She died Sunday, May 28, 2006 of a hear attack related to a congenital vascular defect.
Mrs. Ivey was born on Jan. 6, 1982 in Floyd County. She was the daughter of Willie P. and Wendy Jenkins of Swainsboro and Ricky Lowery of Rome. She was a teller at Citizens Bank & Trust and was a 2000 graduate of Mt. Zion High School.
Survivors include her husband, Howard Ivey Jr.; a daughter, Jillian Reese; a stepdaughter, Brittany Ivey; her mother, Wendy Patterson Jenkins of Swainsboro; her father, Ricky Lowery of Cedartown; a sister, Vicky Cobb of Cedartown; a brother, Levi Lowery of Rome; maternal grandmother, Shirley Patterson of Cave Spring; paternal grandparents, Harold and Anne Lowery of Cedartown.
Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel of Carrolton had charge of arrangements.

Alene Blanton Strickland, 71
BLOOMINGDALE - Funeral for Alene Blanton Strickland, 71, was held Friday. June 9, 2006 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home of Pooler. Burial was in Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery. She died Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at her home.
Mrs. Strickland was born in Tattnall County and lived in Bloomingdale for 52 years. She was a charter member of Ash Street Baptist Church and was currently attending Central Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Marcus
Windell Strickland and her brother, Gene Blanton. She was loved and adored by her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Diane Strickland of Bloomingdale; Allan and Barbara Strickland of Swainsboro; Bobby and Marcia Strickland and Rev. Stacy and Carol Strickland of Guyton; sisters, Elaine Burke of Glennville; and Barbara Harp of Savannah; and eight grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.

Avis "Duke" Brewer, 87
OAK PARK - Graveside service for Avis "Duke" Brewer, 87, was held Saturday, June 10, 2006 at Lyons City cemetery at 11 a.m. with Rev. Henry Dowd officiating. He died June 7, 2006 at Swainsboro Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Mr. Brewer was a native of West Paducah, Ky., and lived in Oak Park for 30 years. He retired from Boilermakers and was a construction worker and a member of Boilermakers Retirement Association. He was a member of Newton
Creek Baptist Church in Ragland, Ky. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Brewer; one son, Murray "Duke" Brewer; and two brothers, Billy M. Brewer and Virgil E. Brewer.
Survivors include a son, Don, and his wife, Fran Brewer, of West Paducah, Ky.; a daughter, Gail Thomasson and husband, Eddie, also of West Paducah, Ky.; several grandchildren and grandchildren; and a special friend, Daisy Panick.

Dan "Dino" Hackle, 33
MEEKS COMMUNITY - Graveside funeral services for Dan "Dino" Hackle, 33, was held Thursday, June 8, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Corinth United Methodist Church cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Johnson officiating. He died Sunday, June 4, 2006.
Mr. Hackle was born and raised in the Meeks Community of Johnson County. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He was a "jackof all - trades, " a farmer, and was employed by Powell Fertilizer Company.
Survivors include his daughter, Cheyenne Hackle of Scott; his mother, Dianne McCorvey of Meeks; his father and stepmother, Bud and Jeannette Hackle of Adrian; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Tonya and Memo Gomez of Jackson; and Jeannene and Jerry Allen of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Chris Stapleton, Wain Sweat, Michael Dopson, Stephen Hackle, Ron Hackle, Tony Watkins, Junior Stapleton, Vic Steptoe, Jack Stapleton, Dale Stapleton, Kyle Stapleton and Memo Gomez.
