Corley Burroughs, 72

Corley Burroughs, age 72, passed away early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008. He left behind his wife of 50 years, Lynette, one daughter, Deidre, and his precious grandchildren, Samantha, Dalton, Sara, Laura, and Jason. Corley was a fighter and throughout his illness, he did his best to take care of his farm and family. He was loved by many and had many friends and family that he held in highest esteem. Although Corley had no sons of his own, over the years he came to love Ron, Joe, Shelby, David, and Eric like his own. His highest priority was his family and he opened his home and heart often to those who needed it. Once he retired, he found no greater pleasure than watching his grandchildren enjoy “the farm, ” watching his garden grow, and watching his cows graze in the pasture. He will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by those who knew him.
Funeral Services for Mr. Corley Burroughs, were held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in the Chapel of Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia, GA. Rev. Johnny Dozier officiated. Interment followed at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville, GA.

Ethelle Bishop Georgeff, 85

Ethelle Bishop Georgeff, 85, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing home. The Cherokee County Georgia native had lived in Detroit, MI, for many years, prior to moving to Glennville in 1993. She was employed in the automobile manufacturing industry and the food service industry in Michigan. After moving to Glennville, she was employed at the Annie C. House as a caregiver for many years and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Joseph and Theora Cowart Bishop and husband, George Georgeff.
She is survived by nieces and nephews, Betty and Denver Barrow of Glennville; Patsy and Carlton Black of Chattanooga, TN, Roy and Norma Bishop of Tacoma, WA, Harry and Gail Bishop of Cartersville, GA, Vivian and Fred Buchanan of Lagrange, GA, Earlene and Hank Barrett of Marietta, GA and Edith and Fred Zucker of Kannapolis, NC.
Memoralization will be by cremation and inurnment will be in the Mausoleum of Glennville Memorial Gardens.

Bernard Paul Jones, 77

Bernard Paul Jones, 77, died Friday, June 27, 2008, at his residence in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The Tattnall County native had lived in Lake Charles for the past 35 years. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1956, he was honorably discharged. He was a Korean War Veteran where he was wounded in action while serving his country. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Irene Jones; brother, Morice Jones and son - in - law, Harry Copeland.
He is survived by his daughters and son - in - law, Lisa Copeland and Lauri and Scott Gentry, all of Orlando, FL; sisters, Myra Jane Wright of Baton Rouge, LA and Shirley Drewry of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Emily, Anna and Kara Gentry, all of Orlando, FL and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville with military honors.
Remembrances may be made to a hospice of the donor’s choice.

Lucile DeLoach Spikes, 77

Mrs. Lucile DeLoach Spikes, 77, passed away early Sunday morning, June 29, 2008, at Meadows Regional Medical Center. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a cook at the Sandwich Depot for several years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Elza Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Olen DeLoach and Sweetie Mae Randall DeLoach, and her husband, Bennie Spikes.
She is survived by: two daughters and sons - in - law, Carolyn and Wendell Oliver of Collins and Peggy and Carl Braddy of Lyons; brother, Rufus DeLoach of Reidsville; three grandchildren, Marty and Diane Oliver, Ronnie and Stacey Oliver and Richard and Karen Braddy; several great grandchildren, great - great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, July 1, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Elza Baptist Church, with Reverend Kenneth Green officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
Pallbearers were Al Sikes, Donavan Murray, Larry Allen, David Crews, Mark Crews and Billy Collins.

Joe Brown Durrence, Jr., 71

“J.B.” Joe Brown Durrence, Jr., 71, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of his life and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was employed with Sea Board Coast Line Railroad and Brent Walker Ford for many years. He was co - owner of Glennville Hardware for many years and a farmer and horseman. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and of the Sunshine Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Brown and Vivian “Tink” Durrence; a brother, McCoy Durrence and an infant brother.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce A. Durrence of Glennville; children, Lesa and David Holland, Audrey and Pedro Claudio and Jay and Michelle Durrence, all of Glennville; sister and brother - in - law, Wanda and Dan Hodges of Glennville; sister - in - law, Marklyn Durrence of Jacksonville, FL; brother and sister - in - law, Robert and Marian Collins of Glennville; grandchildren, Andrea, Brittany, Brett, Peter, Marisa, Jayla, Mackenzie and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of 71 years of life services were held on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Harmony United Methodist Church conducted by Reverend Truett Leveritt. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Princeton Pirkle, Merriell Durrence, David Medlock, Mike Holland, Steve Long, Wayne Tatum, Ricky Wilson and Brent Walker.
Remembrances may be made to Harmony United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 913 E. Howard St., Glennville, GA 30427.

John S. Hopkins, Jr., 70

John S. Hopkins, Jr., 70, passed away Sunday, July 27, 2008, at his residence. The Duval County Florida native had lived in Loganville for many years, prior to moving to Glennville one year ago. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired from the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He was of the Mormon Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Markham Hopkins.
He is survived by a son, John Holland Hopkins; a daughter, Hollie Hopkins, both of Loganville; two sisters, Wanda and Vonnie; two grandchildren; two great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Glennville City Cemetery.

Betty “Bet” Mincey Kicklighter, 64

Betty “Bet” Mincey Kicklighter, 64, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2008, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Appling County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Kicklighter; son, Glenn Kicklighter and granddaughter, Tiffany Kicklighter.
She is survived by her children, Cathy Arnold of Seale, AL, Teresa Jones, Mellisa Kicklighter, Terry Kicklighter, Barry Kicklighter, all of Glennville and Grady Kicklighter of Darien; brother and sisters, Roy Mincey and Nell Bolen, both of Savannah and Shirley O’Neal and Linda Burke, both of Glennville; fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ed Clarke, Justin Williams, Dana Reynolds, Michael Burke, Tim Jones and Billy Dukes.

Larry J. Wilson, 72

“L.J.” Larry J. Wilson, 72, passed away Friday, July 25, 2008, at Community Hospice Center in Vidalia. The Screven County native had lived in Savannah and Glennville most of his life. He was a graduate of Commercial High School in Savannah, retired from Union Camp Corporation, a Marine Veteran and an avid gun collector and restorer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Averi Anna Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Dianne Rush Wilson of Glennville; children, Mike and Ginger, Wilson of Glennville, Brian and Jane Wilson of Houston, TX, and Amy and Rob Murray of Glennville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Wilson of Forsyth, Dallas, Aaron and Sarah Wilson all of Houston, TX and Allee and Emma Murray of Glennville; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28, 2008, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Dr. Charles (Bucky) Strickland and Reverend Michael Morgan officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Allan Bergdoll, Glenn Purcell, Neal Thompson, David Rush, Steve Rush and Dennis Strickland. Honorary pallbearers Reggie Crosby, Dave Turner, Marvin Lariscy, Parker Blount, Bill Smith, Billy Wilson and Charlie Peacock.

Lillian Coleman, 81

Mrs. Lillian Coleman, 81, passed into eternal rest on July 14, 2008, at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, GA, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, after a long illness. She was born on April 19, 1927, the third of seven children to Rufus L. and Sarah Moody in Liberty County, GA.
She was educated in the Tattnall County School system. At an early age she became a member of the First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA. She was also employed by the school system until she decided to go into business for herself.
In 1946, she married George Earnest King (he preceded her in death in March 2008). To that union eight wonderful children were born. Later, she married Charles “Big Daddy” Coleman and they added four more children to their family. Big Daddy was called to be with the Lord April 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus L. and Sarah Moody; siblings, John, Emory, Reginald and Elizabeth and children, George, Wyndall and Angelyn.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children, Henry Edward (Connie) of Lawrenceville, GA, Diane Denise “Niscey” Roberts (James Ivy), Sarah Wilcox “Bull” (Louis) and Charles “Mullah” (Cheryl Denise McMillan) and Marilyn all of Glennville, Rufus (Carol Jean), Margaret King Drinks, James Earnest “Peaty” (Ilene) and William Cornelius “Neal” (Sharon) of Stone Mountain, GA, her brother, Rufus, and his wife Lizzie of Glennville, GA and her youngest sister, Wynette Bradford, and her husband James, of Slugsburg, New York; over thirty grandchildren and a host of great - grands, nieces, nephews and friends. And, needless to say, a special part of her extended family who has been with her from the beginning to the end, offering prayers and giving support when needed, Ruben and Novella King and Pinkie Mae and Willie Brown, Anne J. Lett and Gene Bennett of Glennville; Zadine Walker and Bernice Collins of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, 2008, at the Center of Life Church of God at 1202 Martin Luther King Drive in Glennville, GA, with Dr. Randy King presiding and Reverend William Miller officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons and flower attendants were her granddaughters.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.
