James Hensley, 80

James Hensley, 80, of Metter died Monday August 18, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Bulloch but lived most of his life in the Cobbtown and Metter area. He was a retired farmer and owned and operated Hensley Tobacco Warehouse with the Hensley Group for several years. James was an avid sportsman and a member of the Portal Hunting club, where he was a past president. He loved spending his time following and supporting the local athletics. He was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy, attended Gordon Military College, University of North Carolina and University of George and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jean Tillman Hensley; son and daughter - in - law, Jim and Louisa Hensley; daughter and son - in - law, Jerri and Gregg Wolff; sister, Ann Daniels, all of Metter; brother, Don Hensley of Cobbtown; grandchildren, Thomas, Angela and Michall Wolff, J.B. and John Mitchell Hensley.
Funeral services will be 2:00 Thursday, August 21, 2008, at the Metter United Methodist Church with burial in the Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Metter United Methodist Church, P. O. 595, Metter, GA 30439, or Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Audrey Powell Hill, 86

Mrs. Audrey Powell Hill passed away Sunday morning August 17, 2008, at age 86. “MeMa” was a patient, giving, and loving mother, mother - in - law, grandmother, great - grandmother, and sister to her family and a special friend to all who knew her. She was an expert seamstress until her health forced her to give it up. She was a fighter who met every challenge head on. She loved life and she loved being with family and friends, going out to dinner, shopping and growing flowers.
MeMa was preceded in death by her parents, Matthew L. and Inez Powell; husband, Cecil Hill; a sister, Lucy Smith and two brothers, Rabun Powell and Howard Powell.
She is survived by her children, Billy and Betty Joyce Hill of Nashville, GA, Suzanne and Mark Tootle of Pooler, Kim and Bill Thompson of Hayesville, NC, and Stan and Karen Hill of Richmond Hill; a sister, Wilma Meeks of Tucker; a brother and sister - in - law, Bernice and Betty Powell of Claxton; eight grandchildren, 16 great - grandchildren; many loved nieces and nephews, and so very many special friends.
Pallbearers were Mike Tootle, Barrett Hill, Jason Thompson, Shea Thompson, Matt Hill, and Dean Hill.
Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, August 19, 2008, from the Reidsville Baptist Church with Elder Tom Deal and Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Timmy Kirkland, 20

Timmy Kirkland, 20, passed away Friday, August 15, 2008, in Vidalia. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville for the past four years. He was employed with Ohoopee Construction Company.
He is survived by his parents, Lisa and Dewayne Copeland of Johnson Corner and his biological father, Timmy Lundell of Reidsville; a brother, Cody Kirkland of Johnson Corner; his grandmother, Jeanette Clark of Reidsville; his grandfather, Melvin Copeland of Vidalia; five uncles, David Brown, James and Marissa Kirkland, all of Reidsville, Melvin Copeland Jr. of Vidalia, James Edward Kirkland of Ellabell and Shane and Haley Denmark of Uvalda; two aunts, Tasha Clark of Vidalia and Michelle Fertige of Twin City.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 17, 2008, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Smith officiating.

Rosetta Walker McCloud, 89

Mrs. Rosetta Walker McCloud, 89, of Glennville, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2008, at the Glenview Nursing Home in Glennville after an extended illness. She was a life long resident of Tattnall County and a member of Holy Temple Pentecostal Church in Glennville, GA.
She is survived by two sons, Lucious Charles (LC) Walker and Ervin Walker, both of Glennville; three daughters, Mrs. Eloise Stokes, Mrs. Gladys Doe and Mrs. Emma Jean Lewis, all of Glennville, GA; one sister, Mrs. Lula Johnson of Glennville, GA; and a host of grandchildren, great - grandchildren, great - great - grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 15, 2008, at the Little Rock Holiness Church, with burial following in the Eureka cemetery in Hagan, GA.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Jo W. Morris, 86

Mrs. Jo W. Morris, 86, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008, at the Doctor’s Hospital of Reidsville. She graduated from Toombs County High School in 1936 and attended Georgia Teacher’s College. She taught in the Tattnall County School System for six years. She lived in Hinesville for 40 years, where she was a member of the Hinesville First Baptist Church. She moved to Collins in 1982 where she joined the Collins First Baptist Church.
She is survived by: her husband of 63 years, Mr. James Morris of Collins; a daughter, Nancy Morris of Huntsville, AL; a son and daughter - in - law, Frank and Sherlyn Morris of Orange Park, FL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2008, from the Collins First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Johnnie Chavies Ramage, 64

Mrs. Johnnie Chavies Ramage, 64, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2008, at her residence surrounded by her family. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a retired seamstress and was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church. She will be missed by many.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Valerie and Rusty Welch of Reidsville; a granddaughter, Andrea Welch of Reidsville; a grandson and his wife, Adam and Heidi Welch of Reidsville; one niece and one nephew also survive.
Graveside Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday from the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Bennie A. Bozman, Jr., 83

Bennie A. Bozman, Jr., 83, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at the Carl Vinson Veterans Hospital in Dublin. The Maryland native had lived in Florida for many years before moving to Glennville in 2003. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served as one of the original Frogmen Demolition Team in WWII, was a member of the VFW Post #2811 and Military Order of the COOTIE of the United States in Gainesville, FL, and a member of the National Order of Moose Club. He was retired as a shipping and receiving manager in retail office supply.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Bozman of Glennville; son and daughter - in - law, Bennie A. Bozman III and Donna of Bluffton, SC; daughter and son - in - law, Benita Ann Cowart and Jerry of Glennville; brother, Stanley Clyde Bozman of Southern Pines, NC; sister, Eva Turner of Silver Springs, MD; four grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, August 29, 2008, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Eugene Fred (Boopy) Clark, 71

Eugene Fred (Boopy) Clark, 71, died Sunday August 31, 2008, at the Candler County Hospital. Fred was born in Washington, DC, but lived most of his life in Frederick, MD, where he retired from the Department of Treasury after 25 years. He moved to Stillmore two years ago and was a member of the Stillmore United Methodist Church.
Survivors are his wife: Shirley Clark of Frederick, MD; brother and sister - in - law, Thomas and JoAnn Clark; nephew, John Thomas Clark; nieces, Cynthia Carrie Lee Clark and Mary Frances Clark; two great nieces and two great nephews, all of Stillmore.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday Sept.1, 2008, at the Stillmore City Cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen was in charge of the arrangements.

William Adrian Gay, 60

William Adrian Gay, 60, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008, in Louisville, Kentucky. The Jeff Davis County native had lived in Glennville for many years before moving to Louisville. He was employed with Claxton Poultry Farms for many years and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was also a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church in Louisville.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn I. Gay of Louisville, KY; children, Brandon Wade Gay and Andrea M. Pickren, both of Glennville, Amanda C. Conaghan of Callahan, FL, and William Adrian Gay, II and Anthony D. Gay, both of Jacksonville, FL; brother, Wendell Ryals of Dothan, AL; sisters, Irene DuBose of Manning, SC, Geraldine Barton of Parrott, GA, and Daryl Stanfield of Albany; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 29, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, with Reverend Ray Hayes officiating. Burial followed in the Gay Family cemetery in Hazlehurst.
Pallbearers were Corey Foskey, Joe Gay, Scott Pickren, Dennis Dasher, Rick Conaghan and Eric Stuber.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gertie Iler Glisson, 89

Gertie Iler Glisson, 89, passed away on August 26, 2008.
She was a lifelong resident of Evans County, a devoted Christian, a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker. She dearly loved her family, her friends, and her church, Bull Creek Baptist Church. Her friends and family considered her a Godly woman of the highest character, filled with grace and dignity.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Thomas Glisson.
Survivors include her children, Thomas and Billie Glisson of Vero Beach, FL, Ellen and Winston Whittle of Claxton, Avis Glisson of Greensboro, NC, Randy and Kathy Glisson of Birmingham, AL, and Miriam and Gregg Usry of Claxton; ten grandchildren, Hugh, Paul, Stacey, Joy, Jenny, Julianna, Jane, Jeremy, Joshua and Joanna; three great - grandchildren, Chelsea, Dylan and Beckham; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, August 29, at Bull Creek Baptist Church, with burial following in Bull Creek Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 275, Hagan, Ga., 30429.
Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
