Aron (Pete) Johnson, Jr., 71

Aron (Pete) Johnson, Jr., 71, of Glennville, died Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, GA. He was born to the late Aron and Hattie Jonhson of Glennville, and was married to the late Mildred Johnson. He attended public school in Glennville, and worked in the pulpwood industry for many years.
He is survived by three sons, Billy Jr. and Zella Johnson, George and Mary Johnson, all of Glennville and Ricky and Antonia Johnson of Chester, VA; two daughters, Annette Sharpe of Reidsville and Linda Johnson of Glennville; one sister, Helen Oliver of Mebena, NC; twelve grandchildren; four great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 19, 2008, at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville. Interment followed in the First African Baptist Church Cemetery.
Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway, GA was in charge of the arrangements.

William Oren Jones, 84

William Oren Jones, 84, passed away October 15, 2008, at Bethany Assisted Living in Vidalia, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s disease. The family would like to thank the special people at Bethany Assisted Living and Southern Care Hospice. Oren was born on June 22, 1924, to the late Henry and Lizzie Purvis Jones of Manassas. He is also preceded in death by six sisters and four brothers.
Oren was a graduate of Middle Georgia College and Auburn University. He began his insurance career in Tifton, GA., later joining Georgia Farm Bureau Insurance Company, where he retired after 28 years. He was the District Marketing Manager for the Seventh District of Georgia when he retired. His fondest memories were of his former agents and working with the young people he hired and seeing them become successful. Oren was a member of the First Baptist Church in Metter, GA., and the Antioch Sunday School Class. He worked with several committees but enjoyed most the six and a half years as the Chairman of the Building Committee during the restoration of the church.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Marjorie Davis Jones of Collins; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Kelvin Jones of Statesboro and Stephen and Susan Jones of Macon; one stepson, Glenn and wife Frankie Davis of Collins; one step - daughter, Gail and husband Jimmy Taylor of Richmond Hill; one sister, Ellen Jones of Brunswick; four granddaughters, Hillary, Emily, Ellen Marie and Sadie Jones; one step - granddaughter and husband, Amanda and Jason Julaton; two step - grandsons, Justin Taylor and Billy Goosby; one great - granddaughter, Abigail Julaton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 17, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Metter, GA., with Rev. Jay Moore officiating and Terry Manuel and Pat Bradley having the eulogy. Burial followed in Cedar Creek Church Cemetery, Collins, GA.
Pallbearers were Wesley McRae, Greg Lynn, Brett McDaniel, Dan West, Bill Hammock, Eddie Skeens, Tim Mosley and Jamie O’Brien.
Honorary escorts were Claire Donaldson, Lorene Hendricks, Diane Herndon, Helen Palmer and Shelby Scott.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Antioch Sunday School Class; present and retired Georgia Farm Bureau Employees; Dean McCall, Lamar McCall, Gerald Bonnett and Jimmy McDaniel.
Remembrances may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund, P.O. Box 34, Metter, Ga., 30439.

Thomas Logan McTeer, 58

Thomas Logan McTeer, 58, died Saturday, October 18, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Logan was a native Savannahian, and graduate of Benedictine Military School and the Universty of Georgia. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Henry Wells McTeer and Wahlena Hampton Pritchard McTeer, of Isle of Hope, his maternal grandparents Augustine Lawrence McCarthy and Mary Agnes Logan McCarthy, of Isle of Hope, his parents, Henry Webb McTeer and Mary McCarthy McTeer of Isle of Hope, an aunt, Elizabeth McTeer Thompson and sister Mary McTeer McKay.
Survivors: Brother, Henry Webb McTeer III, and six nieces. Private family graveside services will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Benedictine Military School.

Virginia Thompson Oates, 83

Virginia Thompson Oates, 83, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Chatham County native had lived in Register since 1993, moving from Wilmington Park in Savannah. She was active with her husband in the American Business Clubs of America AMBUCS and was a member of AMDOES Women’s Auxiliary. Mrs. Oates was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Savannah and loved crafts, floral arranging, crocheting and knitting.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James L. Oates Sr.; a son and daughter - in - law, James L. Jr. and Ruth Oates ; two daughters and a son - in - law, Sandra and John Williams, all of Register, and Linda Jenkins of Metter; seven grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Carl Ledbetter and Dr. Bill Eckles officiating. Burial was in the Hillcrest East cemetery in Savannah.
Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, Ga 30459.

Karl Scarboro Olliff, 85

Mrs. Karl Scarboro Olliff, 85, died Thursday October, 16, 2008, in Savannah. The native of Bulloch County had lived most of her life in the Candler County area and was a member of Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Karl was a retired seamstress, having worked with Metter Manufacturing for several years. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her pecan orchard, staying busy by working and playing with her grandchildren. Mrs. Karl was known as a very giving person to her family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Bert and Mamie Johnson Scarboro, husband of 63 years Raymond W. Olliff, son Wayne R. Olliff and grandson Jeff Olliff.
Survivors: son, Norman (Eddie) Olliff of Statesboro; daughter - in - law, Margaret Olliff of Florida; grandchildren, Katie Olliff of Decatur, Randy (Kara) Olliff of Metter, Jonathan Olliff of Metter, Joshua Olliff of Florida, Wayne Olliff of Gainesville; great grandchildren, Brandon, Blake, and Jamie Olliff, Karly and Jon Wesley Olliff; brothers, Don (Audrey) Scarboro of Rocky Mount, NC, Richard (Nikki) Scarboro of Statesboro; sisters, Frances Heaton of Savannah and Kathryn Fisher of Metter; sister - in - laws, Annie Laura Reddick of Statesboro, Lorine Hendricks of Metter; brother - in - law, L.C. Waller, and several loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday October 19, at Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to the Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church, Metter, GA. 30439.

Edward Owens, 89

Edward Owens, 89, died Sunday, October 12, 2008, at the Candler Co. Hospital. A native of Candler County, he had lived in Twin City most of his life. Mr. Owens was a retired dairyman and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Victoria Poole Owens.
He is survived by two daughters, Vonnette (Jerry) Vail of Dry Branch and Shirley Brown of Metter; three sons, Edward(Sheila) Owens Jr. of Dry Branch, Bobby (Marie) Owens of Statesboro and James (Dianna) Owens of Twin City; one sister, Yvette Cassidy of Statesboro and a brother, Jurue Owens of Metter; ten grandchildren, Lloyd Norris Jr., and Sabrina Brooks, both of Dry Branch, David Norris and Angela Bell both of Gray, Tonya Wimberly of Macon, Jennifer Lanier and Lisa Owens, Jackson Brown and Victoria Brown, all of Metter, Jimmy Owens of Swainsboro;19 great grandchildren and one great - great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Lake cemetery with Rev. Charles Beasley officiating.

Lois M. Anderson, 88

Lois M. Anderson, 88, passed away October 24, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native lived most of her life in Evans County. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Sapp of Claxton and Eunice Rountree of Bloomingdale, GA; one half sister, Leatha Campbell of Kentucky; six grandchildren; eight great - grandchildren; four great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 27, 2008, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Harrelson officiating. Burial followed in the Old Anderson Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ellis Sikes, Byron Sikes, Chris Sikes, Harry Thompson and Louie Anderson.
Mellie NeSmh Funeral Home of Claxton was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Cristina Santiz Perez, 3 - months - old

Anna Cristina Santiz Perez, 3 - month - old daughter of Agustin Santiz Diaz and Rosa Perez Gomes of Swainsboro, died Sunday October 26, 2008.
Little Anna is also survived by her sister, Lucia Maria Santiz Perez, Paternal Grandparents Manuel Santiz Lopez and Rosa Diaz Soska, her maternal grandmother is Guadalupe Perez Santiz.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 29, at the Metter chapel with burial in the Moralas Family Cemetery.

Jessie B.K. Tootle, 94

Jessie B.K. Tootle, 94, passed away Friday, October 17, 2008, at Appling Health Care System. The Screven county native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life, moving to Savannah in 1960 and had lived in Appling County for many years. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, worked as a waitress and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Hall, of Baxley; four grandchildren; nine great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 19, 2008, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, with Reverend Tommy Daniels officiating. Burial followed in Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James I. (Duck) DeLoach, Ray Crosby, Eulie Boyd, Mark Brown, Sonny DeLoach and Addison Boyd.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
