Lon F. Durrence, 96

Lon F. Durrence, 96, passed away Monday, November 9, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a retired farmer and loved his dogs. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Levy and Clifford Tootle Durrence.
He is survived by his children, Shirley Deel (Gene) of Chesapeake, VA, Miriam Rouse (Bill) of Chesapeake, VA, Margaret Stafford (Ralph) of Lebanon, GA, and Wayne Durrence of Portsmouth, VA; sister, Lothair Patricia Durrence Murphy of Savannah; 11 grandchildren, many great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Harmony United Methodist Church with Reverend Ramon Hernandez officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Burkhalter, Richard Ulmer, Eddie Cannatser, Jeffery Deel, Gene Deel and Brian Baker.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

William Clifton “Pat” Marshall, 51

A memorial service for William Clifton “Pat” Marshall, 51, of Reynolds, GA, was held Monday, November 16, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Reynolds. Pat passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009, at the Memorial Center of Central Georgia. He graduated from Taylor County High School in 1976 and was a graduate of the University of Georgia and was a staunch Bulldog fan. Pat was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and horseback riding. Pat was a loving and caring son, father and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Earl “Sink” Marshall; a brother, Alton “Bud” Marshall and grandmother, Eva Gil Halley.
He is survived by his son, Clif Marshall of Reynolds, GA; his daughter, Amanda Marshall of Reidsville; his mother, Anne H. Marshall of Reynolds, GA and a sister, Bunny Marshall of St. Simons Island, GA.
A memorial service was held for Pat at the Randy L. Durrence Conference Center at Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation in Reidsville, GA, on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at 6 p.m.
Goddard - McLeighton Funeral Home of Reynolds was in charge of arrangements.

Lois Ann Kropf Shaff, 55

Lois Ann Kropf Shaff, 55, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at Memorial health University Medical Center. The South Carolina native lived in Hinesville for many years moving to this area about 20 years ago. She was a civil service employee at Ft. Stewart for 30 years and was a loving wife and homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, John Shaff of Glennville; children, Starry Shaff of Glennville and Dennis and Danielle Shaff of Collins; brothers and sisters, Dr. Albert Mims of Lake City, SC, Dennis and Lorianne Kropf of Manning, SC, Mike and Roberts Burrows of Sumter, SC and Ryan Kropf of Manning, SC; grandchildren, Damian Cheech, Brennen Shaff and Kayden Shaff and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville on Thursday, November 19, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. Services and burial will be private at a later date.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

William (Bill) Carwell, Sr.

William (Bill) Carwell, Sr., was born in Tattnall County on June 24, 1938, to the late Harmon and Vetie Lue Carwell. He departed this life on November 9, 2009, after a short illness at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was a member of St. William’s Missionary Baptist Church and lived in Reidsville all his life. He was a farmer and retired welder.
He leaves to mourn five daughters, Veta Lawanda Carwell of Collins, Roxanne Denise Carwell, Vanessa Diana Carwell, Lugreta Carwell (Sammie) Lawrence, all of Metter, GA, Colette (Omar) Mims of Augusta, GA; four sons, John Davis of Glennville, GA, William (Bill) Carwell, Jr. of Reidsville, GA, Harmon Lee (Linda) Carwell of Metter, GA, Bernard Mincey of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Rebecca (Bill) Barron of Sturgis, MS; and one brother, Quinton (Dionne) Colwell of Reidsville, GA; 20 grandchildren, a host of great - grandchildren, uncles, aunts, niece, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Williams M.B. Church, conducted by Dr. Artis Carswell. Burial will follow at the Sand Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Browder, Melvin Browder, Joseph Lawrence, Harold Jamerson, Willis M. Carswell, Jr., Randy Mincey, Shawn Colwell.
Harper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Emma Ruth Clark, 67

Mrs. Emma Ruth Clark, age 67 passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of her life. She was a seamstress, retiring from Roydon Wear, and loved to fish.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Hugh Clark, of Reidsville; a son, Doug Clark of Lyons; a sister and brother - in - law, Miriam and J.W. Gay of Reidsville; three grandchildren, Matt and Carrie Clark of Reidsville and Stephen Clark of Savannah and three great - grandchildren, Caleb and Carter Clark and Ethan Clark of Savannah.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 9, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph Brock officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Moriah Church Cemetery in Toombs County.
Pallbearers were Dewey Nail, Dennis Nail, Dusty James, Greg Brown, Bubba King and Robert Powell.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

John Slaton DeLoach, 95

John Slaton DeLoach, 95, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. He was born in Tattnall County, July 1, 1914, to Frank and Lala Tootle DeLoach. He retired from Georgia Pacific in Savannah after 20 years of service and moved back to the family farm, where he loved to grow vegetables. He was an avid fisherman and loved to be outdoors. He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Barnhill DeLoach and daughter, Dellene Johnstone.
He is survived by his son and daughter - in - law, Bill and Charlotte DeLoach of Waynesboro; son - in - law, Jim Johnstone of Columbia, SC; sister, Vivian Kicklighter of Glennville; grandchildren, John DeLoach of Columbia, SC, Mike Spence (Lisa) of Augusta, Darren DeLoach (Jeanne) of Homer, AK, Walter Johnstone (Dawn) of Columbia, SC, Jay Johnstone of Columbia, SC, Julie Stephens (Geoff) of Columbia, SC and Bill Blair DeLoach of Augusta; 13 great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Harmony United Methodist Church, with Reverend Ramon Hernandez and Reverend Graton Helms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
Remembrances may be made to Harmony United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1119, Glennville, GA 30427.

Keaton McCage Durrence, age 2, died Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall in Reidsville.
He is survived by his parents, Kenny and Tonda Durrence of Reidsville; brother, Konner Reed Durrence of Reidsville; maternal grandparents, Roger and Jill Phillips of Reidsville and David and JoAnne Moody of Ludowici; paternal grandparents, Ricky and Tracie Durrence of Manassas; uncles, Charles Bowen of Reidsville, Wesley Durrence of Claxton, Alex (Shonda) Phillips of Marion, Indiana and Julian (David) Moody; aunt, Nicole Herron of Marion, Indiana; maternal great grandparents, Dayton and Jan Calhoun of Glennville, Joel and Linda Clifton of Townsend and Frankie Moody of Ludowici; paternal great grandparents, Wanda Rogers of Manassas and Louise Seckinger of Glennville; maternal great great grandmother, Novis Clifton of Townsend and several great - aunts, uncles and cousins and many other loving people who considered him family.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 7, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville with Reverend Mike Gay officiating. Burial followed in Battle Creek Church.
Pallbearers were Charles Bowen, Brett Holland, Dennis Shaft and Justin Taylor.

Susanne Barnard Gordy, 54

Susanne Barnard Gordy, 54, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was employed in the textile industry as a seamstress and was a homemaker. She was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ena Barnard, and a sister, Belinda Barnard.
She is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Gordy of Jesup; sister, Bobbie Kicklighter of Jesup; brother and sister - in - law, Jerry and Essie Ruth Barnard of Glennville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 7, 2009, at the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Miller officiating. Burial was private.

L.E. “Sammy” Hutcheson, age 76

Mr. L.E. “Sammy” Hutcheson, age 76 passed away Saturday November 7, 2009, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a machinist, retiring from Crider Poultry. His passion was attending his goats.
He is survived by two sisters, Bay Hutcheson and Edna “Skeet” Dees both of Collins; special niece, Becky Stinson of Collins; and numerous other nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were Robert Hutcheson Jr., Joey Graffagnino, Richard Lynn, Eric Hampton, Thomas Hutcheson and Rocky Hutcheson. Honorary pallbearers were Kenny Lynn, Rodney Mullin, Larry Lynn, Richard Higgs, Harry Lynn, Terry Barnes, Mike Naughton and Bobby Hutcheson.
Funeral Services were held Monday, November 9, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Joey Graffagnino and Anthony Hutcheson officiating. Interment followed in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.

Edra Anderson Powell

Edra Anderson Powell died Monday, November 2, 2009, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker and substitute teacher who enjoyed baking, gardening and her community. She was a member of Collins United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Claude (J.C.) Powell. Survivors include: daughters, Sondra (Lloyd) James of Collins, Marsha (Lester) Fowler of Swainsboro, Pam (Wayne) Humphrey of Gaffney, SC and Rhonda Brown of Claxton; sisters, Betty Groover of Glennville, Lajuan Schwartz of Metter and Glenda McDaniel of Reidsville; 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and four great - great - grandchildren and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 5, 2009, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville, with Reverend Joey Holloway officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rodney James, Kenny McCall, Khris Fowler, R.L. James, Brad Humphrey, and Greg Giles.
