Juanita Head Wright, 83
Juanita Head Wright, 83, died Sunday, November 08, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. She and her family moved to Collins 45 years ago from Florida and she was a hairdresser.
Mrs. Juanita was a wonderful mother and grandmother who enjoyed her great grandchildren spending time at her home. She loved her flower garden and preparing Sunday lunch for all the family. Her customers and church family was like her own. She was a member of the Collins United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, James Douglas Wright Sr.; her parents; a brother and a sister.
Survivors are a son, J.D. “Pudgie” Wright Jr. of Collins; two daughters, Nancy Wright and Mary Ann (Pat) Lively both of Collins; five grandchildren, Patrick (Jo) Lively, Dustin (Amanda) Lively, Dawn (Paul W.) Bowen, Jennifer (Jimmy) Robinson, and Eli Lively; and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. David Hudson and Rev. Joey Holloway officiating. Burial will be in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Patrick Lively, Dustin Lively, Eli Lively, Paul Williams, Wesley Meeks and Ralph Lively. Joan Anderson, 73
Joan Anderson, 73, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Crossville, TN, native moved to Reidsville eight years ago to be closer to her family. She was a very strong willed person who gave everything she had and was that way to the end. Now, as she would say “I’ll be watching over all of you so you better be good. Though I walk through the valley of the shadows, my God thou art with me now, and I am at peace forever.”
She is survived by her children, Sharon Van Etten of Reidsville, David Anderson and Denise Anderson of Pikeville, TN; mother, Josephine Royce; brother, Chester Royce; daughter - in - law, Christy Greenwood; five grandchildren, Jamie Lee Greenwood, Christopher David Greenwood, Alisa Arlene Anderson, Ernest Anderson, Robert Jesse Anderson; four great grandchildren, Aaron Michael Greenwood, Ashley Renee Greenwood, Ayla Jade Greenwood and Mark Anthony Deardorff.

Mrs. Ella M. Carswell, 79, of Reidsville, Ga. passed away Monday, November 2, 2009, at the Doctors Hospital in Reidsville, Ga. She was a member of St. Phillips Baptist Church in Reidsville, Ga.
Her parents are the late Jake B. Eason Sr. and the late Adel Eason. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Artis Carswell Sr., who preceded her in death.
She is survived by four loving children, Mrs. Annie Ruth (Collis) Costen of Collins, Ga., Rev. Artis (Janice) Carswell Jr. and Van Louis Carswell both of Reidsville, and Mrs. Gracie Mae (Harry) Williams of Campton, FL, six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Bessie (Moses) Forest of St. Augustine, FL, and Mrs. Helen (Donald) Donaldson of Miami; five brothers, Don and Jack Eason both of Miami, Robert Lee Eason of NC, Jerry and Jake Eason, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 11:00 a. m. St. Phillips Baptist Church in Reidsville, with burial following in the Sandhill Cemetery. No viewing, no wake services and the body will be placed in the church from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

Maggie Byrd Colwell, 75
Maggie Byrd Colwell, 75, passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009, in New York.
She was born on October 10, 1933, in Claxton, GA. She was the fourth child of six children born to Albert and Mamie Byrd. She grew up in Reidsville, GA, where she met and married her husband, Norman Colwell.
They were married 49 years before his passing in May 2000. They moved to Queens, New York in 1960. Their union produced eight children.
Maggie was a loving wife and homemaker to her family who adored her. Maggie was baptized and attended New Covenant Church of Christ Baptist in Queens, NY. She was well known in the community as “Ma Colwell” who opened her doors to everyone and anyone in need. She shared her home to those who had nowhere to go, she fed those who had nothing to eat and shared her love for the Lord with anyone hurting who felt lost and all alone. She participated in charity events held by various organizations on cancer awareness.
During the end of her life, Maggie continued to be strong for her family until she knew everything was taken care of and she could finally rest beside her husband, Norman.
She is survived by her children, Mary Page, Norman Colwell Jr., Linda Meyers, Rose Colwell, Helen Moffitt, Gracie Colwell, Aaron Colwell, Beverly Colwell, Larkin Mayberry, III, Jeanette Smith; sisters, Grace Kennedy of Claxton, Mildred Christopher of Jesup; brothers - in - law, Louis Kennedy of Claxton, and Gordon Colwell of Reidsville; 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and cherished friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at New Covenant Church of Christ Baptist in Queens, NY, and on Saturday, October 10, at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville, with Reverend Artis Carswell Jr., officiating.
Interment followed in the Sand Hill Cemetery.
Ruby Harrelson Mobley, 87
Ruby Harrelson Mobley, 87, widow of Euford Mobley, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston - Salem, NC. The Telfair County native had lived in this area most of her life. She moved from Statesboro to North Carolina area several years ago to be near her family. She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Statesboro.
She is survived by her children, Hugh Mobley (Anna) of Newark, Arkansas, Cathern Conley (Dave) of Yulee, FL, Elton Mobley of N.J., Mary Hirschmann of Collins, Frankie Kenard of West Field, NC, Bobby Mobley (Phylis) of West Field, NC, Walter Mobley of Thomasville, NC, Dennis Mobley (Sue) of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; 31 grandchildren, 44 great - grandchildren, one great - great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 31, 2009, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Thomas Kelly officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons and great grandsons.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Eddith C. Price, age 85, were held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at Westview Cemetery with Reverends Franklin Sasser and Chip Bodi officiating. Mrs. Price passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009, following an extended illness. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, Wrightsville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Price.
Joyce Ann Griffis Scarboro, 52
Joyce Ann Griffis Scarboro, 52, died Tuesday, November 2, 2009, at her residence in Glennville. The Evans County native had lived in this area for many years and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. She was a registered nurse and worked for many years at Bulloch Memorial Hospital, Georgia State Prison, Smith State Prison, and various area nursing homes and detention centers. She was a member of Daisy United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Johnny Hendrix; stepmother, Jeanette Hendrix; daughter, Ashley Lee Scarboro and brother, Roy Griffis.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Scarboro; children, Stacey Scarboro of Claxton, Heather Scarboro of Claxton and Shad Scarboro of Wayne, Pennsylvania; mother, Jacqueline Kicklighter of Claxton; grandchildren, Thomas and Stephen Scarboro.
Visitation will be Wednesday, November 4, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m., at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, November 5, 2009, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Rick Cason officiating. Burial will follow in Bull Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Joseph “Ludy” Troha, 83
Joseph “Ludy” Troha, 83, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009, at Doctors Hospital of Tattnall. He was born in Hawkinsville, GA, on October 14, 1926, to Frank and Flora Hansie Troha, and lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart after 37 years of service. He was a member of Glennville First Christian and the Bulltown Hunting Club. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Frank Troha Jr. and Phillip Troha.
He is survived by his wife, Aline Troha of Glennville; children, Allen Troha, Raymond Troha and Peggy T. Yeomans, all of Glennville; sister, Joan Sandmaier (Bill) of Allenhurst; brothers, Bill (Earlene) of Livingston, LA, John Ed Troha of Allenhurst, Alfred Troha (Phyllis) of Sonora, Herman Troha (Mary) of Dothan, AL, Daniel Troha (Jan) of Allenhurst, Robert Troha (Jeweline) of Allenhurst and Lawrence Troha of Allenhurst; sisters in law, Margaret Troha and Ditha Troha, both of Hinesville; grandson, Brian Troha of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.

Carolyn F. Carson, 67
Carolyn F. Carson of Elmsford, NY, passed away on December 22, 2009, at the age of 67. Carolyn retired from Ossining Public Schools in the year 2000, after 30+ years of teaching. She was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church, as well as, several organizations. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles Carson, two sons and a daughter - in - law Lennis Carson and Jaron and Shaleah Carson, one granddaughter Kylie Simone Carson, her father Levi Futch, eight brothers, seven sisters, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Carolyn was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn Catherine Futch. Services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010, 12:00 p.m., at Mt. Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Highway 292, Collins, Georgia.

Amanda Leslie, 30
Amanda Leslie, age 30, of Lyons died Wednesday, December 23, 2009, in Anderson, SC, after a sudden illness. She was a lifelong resident of Toombs County, office manager with Pages Construction Company in Vidalia, and a substitute school teacher with the Toombs County School System. She was a graduate of Southeastern Technical College, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Vidalia and was preceded in death by her grandmother, Christine Strickland Patrick and her papa, L. J. Martin.
Amanda is survived by two daughters, Kelly and Hannah Leslie of Lyons, her mother, Rosa Lee Buff and Charlie Buff of Anderson SC, a sister and brother - in - law, Jessica and William Johnson of Kings Mount NC, grandparents papa Charles Patrick of Vidalia, grandfather John C. “Jake”(Terry) Edenfield of Johnson’s Corner, two aunts, Connie and Kenny Herbaugh of Collins, and Angelina and Truman Groves of Galveston, TX, and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 27, 2009, in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Elmer Caraway officiating. Interment followed in the Pinecrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chad Lynn, Dan Moore, Mike Poulnott, Buddy Patrick, Dan Patrick, Roger Patrick, Andy Page, and Sam Page.
