Jane Hodges West, 91

Jane Hodges West, 91, died Monday, January 15, 2007, at her home under hospice care. The Candler Co. native lived all of her life in the Evergreen Community. She was a homemaker who loved to take care of her family and children. She was an active member of Evergreen Baptist Church for 78 years, where she served as Sunday School teacher of the Primary Class for 35 years, as well as many other positions. She was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and very active on the Hospitality Committee. She also loved to play the piano and harmonica and sing in the church choir. She loved to garden and work in her flowers and yards. She was predeceased by her husband, D.C. West in 1968, her parents, Henry Leonard Hodges and Anna Brown Hodges, a son - in - law, John W. Sikes and a grandson, John W. Sikes, Jr., who both died in 1982.
Survivors: daughters and son - in - law, Marjorie Ann Hursey, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, Carolyn W. Sikes, of Savannah, and Betty W. and David Carlson, of Dawson; son and daughter - in - law: Robert L. and Becky West, of Evergreen Community; grandchildren: Steven Hursey, formerly of Jacksonville, FL, Danny Sikes, of Pooler, Scott Carlson and Terry Carlson, both of Tifton, Chris and Monica West, of Metter, and Jason West, of Evergreen Community; great - grandsons, Garrett Carlson and Tate West; two nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services were held at Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at Evergreen Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Evergreen Baptist Church, P.O. Box 325, Cobbtown, GA 30420 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Edwin “Ed” Cannon Bland, 64

Mr. Edwin “Ed” Cannon Bland, 64, died Friday, January 5, 2007, at University Hospital in Augusta. He was born in Jacksonville, FL, the son of Thomas Horner and Marion C. Bland. He had lived Martinez for the past 13 years and was a retired computer specialist with the U.S. Government Services. Mr. Bland served in the Marine Corps for nine years and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star while serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a beloved husband and father who loved to rebuild old cars as a hobby. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tommy Bland.
He is survived by his wife, Sara V. Bland and a son, Robert Charles Bland both of Martinez; sister, Jean Miller of Claxton; sister - in - law, Joan Bland of Collins; several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Primitive Grove Cemetery near Metter with Military Honors observed.
Pallbearers were, Robert Bland, Garous Pollaro, Jay Miller, Greg Rossidivito, Alan Gay and Chad Morgan.
Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, POB 409410, Atlanta, GA 30384 or your favorite charity.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, Metter, was in charge of arrangements.

Patsy Sikes Blocker, 57

Patsy Sikes Blocker, 57, died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Evans County. The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She is survived by: husband, Charles Blocker of Glennville; daughter, Tracy R. Jenkins of Glennville; son, Davis Johnson of Glennville; step - son and daughter - in - law, Brent and Carla Blocker of Glennville; brothers and sister - in - law, Ronald Sikes of Glennville and Kenny and Susan Sikes of Atlanta; six grandchildren, one great - granddaughter and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Friday, January 5, 2007, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Rev. Oscar Rowe, Jr. and Rev. Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers included: Billy Cooler, Allen Sikes, Calvin Blocker, Loy Blocker, Steve Blocker, and Ricky Dukes.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Hugh M. Driggers, 90

Hugh M. Driggers, 90, passed away Thursday, January 4, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native was a retired farmer and a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by three children; Marvis Driggers, Angie Howard, Larry Driggers and his wife, Vernice Driggers.
He is survived by: daughters and sons - in - law, Jane and Lenwood Eason of Glennville and Debbie and Dale Dutton of Glennville; sons and daughters - in - law, Robert and Patsy Driggers of Macon, Jimmy and Katha Driggers and Juan and Chrissy Driggers, all of Glennville; sisters, Lois Bacon of Glennville and Iris Todd of Savannah; brother, Frank Driggers of Savannah; 17 grandchildren, 14 great - grandchildren, and 1 great - great - grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to: Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459 or the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Era K. Harvey, 87

Mrs. Era K. Harvey, 87, passed away Wednesday morning, January 3, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of her life before moving to North Springs Assisted Living in Claxton three years ago. She was retired from the Reidsville High School as a food service worker. She was a member of Rome Primitive Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Harvey and a grandson, Michael Harvey.
She is survived by three daughters, Hilda Holton of Reidsville, Jean Futch of Milledgeville and Patsy Brown of Collins; a son, Danny Harvey of Collins; five grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jay Futch, Jan Kennedy, Donald Akins, Chad Waters, Avery Sapp, and Bobby Kennedy.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Hone with Elder Hugh Thompson officiating. Interment followed in Rome Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frank Elmer Ritchie, 94

Frank Elmer Ritchie, 94, of Reidsville died January 7, 2007. He was the former business owner of Reidsville Western Auto Store and a dedicated member of the Lions Club with 50 years of perfect attendance. Mr. Ritchie’s last three years were lived at the Riverview Rehabilitation Center in Savannah where he remained a kind, loving gentlemen despite his many handicaps. He cherished his many friends and held his family close to his heart. He is much loved and missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth and his son, Bob Ritchie.
Survivors include: nieces, Christine Sharpes, Marilyn Reed, Betty Barber, Mary Alice Queen, Anne Sanders, Jean Grabley and Susan Nesbit; nephews, Johnny Barber, Ronald Kinzie and William Forbes.
Mr. Ritchie enthusiastically looked forward to moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico with his niece, Christina Sharpes. The family would appreciate remembrances as a donation to the Reidsville Lions Club, P.O. Box 663, Reidsville, GA 30453.
The family will hold a private funeral service on Thursday, January 11, 2007, in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Grady Smiley, 90

Grady Smiley, 90, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Pearce County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was retired Civil Service at Ft. Stewart, a life long member of Glennville First Christian Church and an avid outdoorsman. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Madie Driggers Smiley.
He is survived by son and daughter - in - law, Reginald and Martha Smiley of Acworth; daughter and son - in - law, Cathy and Ford Stone of Savannah; sisters, Rozzie Cook of Baxley and Mary Boyd of Pooler; five grandchildren, Denise Drennan of Kennesaw, GA, Allison Reed of Martinsville, VA, Vicki Massey and Leslie McDaniel, both of Atlanta, and Bert Rahn of Brunswick. Six great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. James H. Crockett and Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bob Cook, Eddie Cook, Rick Bryant, James Reed, Kim Drennan, and Jeffery Drennan.

Charlie C. Wedincamp, 65

Charlie C. Wedincamp, 65, died Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at his home at the Masonic Children’s Camp after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was preceded is death by his parents, Grady and Malliveen Wedincamp, and his beloved brother, Grady Wedincamp, Jr.
He was a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was devoted to his Masonic teachings and to caring for the Masonic Children’s Camp. His love for his family, friends and the children at the Masonic Home in Macon was an inspiration to those who knew him. No task was too great if it meant he could help a friend.
He is survived by: his wife of 37 years, Marjorie Wedincamp of Shellman Bluff; three daughters and sons - in - law, Lee Ann and Scott Schuyler of Sylvania, Charlotte and Joe Hall of Glennville, and Debbie and Craig Wittig of Friendswood, TX; brother, Billy Wedincamp; sister, Linda Watkins; and four grandchildren, Diana, Sarah, Joshua, and Chad.
Funeral Services were held Friday, January 5, 2007, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel with Mr. Eli Stafford, Grand Master for the State of Georgia, officiating. Burial followed in Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites.
Pallbearers included Tony Dubberly, Donnie Epperson, Bob Whitlow, Stacy Howard, Norman Davisworth and Wayne Mobley. Honorary Pallbearers were Masons of Georgia.
Remembrances can be made to: Masonic Home of Georgia, P.O. Box 4183, Macon, GA 31208; or Philadelphia Lodge # 73, Rt. 2, Box 2495C, Townsend, GA 31331.

Betty J. Ballance, 76

Betty J. Ballance, 76, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2006, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Virginia native had lived in Florida for many years, moving to Glennville 22 years ago. She was employed in the school system in Florida for many years and was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ballance Sr.
Her survivors include her children, Charlene Balses of Jacksonville, FL, Pam Nelson of Williston, FL, Sharon Mullis of Dexter, GA, Karen Whener of Dublin, GA, Charles E. Balance Jr. Ballance of Jackson, MS; 13 grandchildren and 26 great - grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services and burial will be held at a later date in Orlando, Florida.

Bobby M. Dubberly, 71

Bobby M. Dubberly, 71, passed away Friday, December 29, 2006, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections and a member of Peace Officers Association of Georgia. He owned and operated Dubberly’s Hen House Restaurant and was a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Tavic Dubberly, and his wife, Sandra Dubberly.
He is survived by sons and daughters - in - law, Tommy and Darlene Dubberly, Timmy and Brenda Dubberly, and Tony and Marie Dubberly, all of Glennville; brother, Bennie Dubberly of Glennville; grandchildren, Jason, Amber, and Tina Dubberly all of Glennville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, December 31, 2006 in the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Bill Cox. Burial followed in Pigott Branch Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Shoemaker, Matt Terrell, Lee Dubberly, Matt Jasinski, Drew Thompson, and Tony Blanton.
Remembrances can be made to Masonic Home Endowment Fund, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, GA 31211.
