Sweet Polly Ann Howard, 62

Mrs. Sweet Polly Ann Howard, 62, died Sunday evening at her residence. The Saluda, SC, native lived in Ninety Six, SC, for many years, moved to Bulloch County in 1985 and then to Reidsville in 2004. She was a waitress with the Panorama Lodge in Ninety Six, SC, for 25 years. Mrs. Howard was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Jerry Brown; her parents, Alex and Dorothy Fain Howard; a brother, Alex Howard, Jr. and a grandchild, David Lee Dylan Brown.
She is survived by two daughters and a son - in - law, Sherri Heath Kelley of Reidsville and Tammy and Al Brown of Brooklet; three grandchildren, A.J. Brown of Brooklet, Waylon Brown of Macomb, IL, and Leslie D. Kelley of Reidsville; two sisters, Lillie Nickles of Greenwood, SC, and Pat Moore of Ninety Six, SC, and her two beloved cats, Layla and Dontago.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Harley Funeral Home of Greenwood, SC. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes, 5 Oglethorpe Professional Blvd. Savannah, GA. 31406.

Jerome Lee King, 46

Mr. Jerome Lee King, 46, died Friday, February 23, 2007, at his residence in Glennville. He was a native of Las Cruces, New Mexico, living in Cordele, GA, Lake Butler, FL, and Glennville, GA. He was a Staff Sgt. and had served in the U.S. Army for twenty - four years; he also played the trumpet for the 3rd ID Band. Mr. King loved to read, travel, woodworking and music. He was truly talented and could play five different instruments. He was a beloved and wonderful father and husband. He was a member of the Glennville Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Denise King of Glennville; two sons, David King of Ft. Hood, TX, and Richard King of Ft. White, FL; one daughter, Kristine King of Glennville; three step - children, Mary Beth Larkin, Christian Larkin and Alexander Larkin, all of Glennville; one granddaughter, Alexis King of Ft. Hood, TX; his mother, Freda Burton King of Dukes, FL; one sister, Mary King of Tampa, FL; and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral service for Mr. King will be held on Friday, March 2, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, with full military honors. Time and date will be announced later.
Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville is in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Lou Paul Thompson, 90

Annie Lou Paul Thompson, 90, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2007, at Effingham County Hospital. The Jefferson County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was employed with Murcell Manufacturing Company for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Glennville Free Will Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Nora Paul; her husband, J.W. Thompson; sister, Maudie Stanley and brother, Elmo Paul.
She is survived by her sons and daughters - in - law, Willie Joe and Sandra Moody of Syracuse, MO. and Derryl and Kay Moody of Rincon, GA; ten grandchildren; 25 great - grandchildren, eight great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 26, 2007, in the Chapel of Brannen - Kenndey Funeral Home with Reverend Trent DeLoach and Reverend Hugh Thompson officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Moody, Steve Franken, Marty Moody, Michael Moody, Mike Dyson and Josh Moody.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mabel Audrey Wilkinson, 80

Mabel Audrey Wilkinson, 80, died Monday, February 26, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was born on October 26, 1926, in Bonifay, Holmes County, FL, to Elak C. and Molly Pate Anderson. She was their ninth child.
Mabel was an active long time member of the Glennville First Christian Church. In her younger years she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Mabel moved to Glennville in 1950 and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was also interested in her community and worked for many years at the election polls. She served as a substitute teacher at Glennville High School for over 15 years. At one time she was a successful district manager for Tupperware. Mabel was a ball of energy, a good homemaker, an excellent seamstress, and accomplished artist, a maker of wonderful quilts, a top - notch cook and pastry chef.
A high point in Mabel’s life was the publishing of her book, “My Link to the Past, ” stories of her growing up in rural panhandle Florida during the depression. This milestone allowed her to become a good public speaker dressing in beautiful handmade costumes each time she addressed a school or civic group. Her book also holds a special place in the “time capsule” buried in front of Glennville City Hall. Mabel never held a fishing pole she didn’t like and she never met a stranger.
She is survived by her husband, James R. “Bobby” Wilkinson of Glennville; a son and daughter - in - law, Gary A. and Linda Swindell of Waynesboro, GA; a daughter, Rebecca Gail Swindell of Denver, CO; sisters and brothers - in - law, Bonnie and Ed Hagler of Columbus, GA and Juanita and Shirley Kent of Millen, GA; a grandson, Elak Gavin Swindell of Waynesboro, GA; and numerous cousins of Bonifay, FL, also survive.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at Glennville First Christian Church with Reverend Jack Hudson and Reverend James Crockett officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Scott Parker, Kenny Purvis, Keith Wasson, Robin Stewart, John Brannen, Denver Taylor and Elak Swindell. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Christian Women’s Fellowship of First Christian Church.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of all the arrangements.

Leroy Anderson, 95

Leroy Anderson, 95, died Wednesday at Candler County Hospital under Georgia Home Health Care Hospice. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident was a retired farmer and carpenter. A wonderful Papa to his grand children, he loved gardening, his farm animals and going to Cobbtown for a daily Coke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebie Crabbe Anderson.
He is survived by two daughters and sons - in - law, Faye and Earl Hughes of Meldrim and Kaye and Jackey Sikes of Cobbtown; a brother, Clyde Anderson of Reidsville; grandchildren, Jeff Hughes, Lee Hughes, Terri Hughes, Scott Padgett and Matt Padgett; and ten great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 20, 2007, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Reverend Ronald Warren officiating. Burial followed in Anderson Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Hughes, Lee Hughes, Scott Padgett, Matt Padgett, Joey Anderson and Mancy Turner.
Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

James A. (Jim) Kemp, 62

James A. (Jim) Kemp, 62, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. The Toombs County native had lived in Brunswick and Atlanta for many years, moving back to Glennville several years ago. He was employed by MARTA System for many years as a computer hardware specialist and was of Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, James A. Kemp and mother, Marjorie Durrence Hires.
He is survived by his son and daughter - in - law, Chris and Evelyn Kemp of Atlanta; granddaughter, Maria Kemp of Atlanta; half - sisters, Denise Dixon and Elise Squires of Glennville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral services were private.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sherrie Thomas - Pough, 56

Sherrie Thomas - Pough, 56, died Sunday, April 22, 2007, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Bulloch County native graduated from high school in Reidsville. She lived most of her adult life in Collins where she was a member of The Church of God in Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Conny Pough, Sr. of Collins; one son, Conny Pough, Jr. of Collins; two daughters, Venita Darien of Hanover, MD and Arletha Pough of Savannah; three brothers, O.C. Thomas, Jr., Robert Thomas and Collis Thomas all of Miami, FL; five sisters, Jesse Ruth Salvage of Detroit, MI, Precious Conyers of Tampa, FL, Henrietta Carter of Miami, FL, Patricia Williams of Metter and Brenda Baddy of Atlanta; two grandchildren, Clarence Pough and Camron Tilmon; several aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
The funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Whitaker Funeral Home in Metter. Burial will follow in Wilkerson Cemetery in Collins. Visitation will be Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Whitaker Funeral Home.
Whitaker Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Mitchell Baxter, Jr., 46

Roy Mitchell Baxter, Jr., 46, died April 9, 2007, as a result of injuries sustained in an accident involving a train and a motor grader. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of his life. He was employed by the Long County Road Department for many years and was a member of Poplar Head Baptist Church. He was an avid fox - hunter and a member of the Beard’s Creek Hunting Club and GA Dog Hunters Association.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Lou Morris of Glennville; parents, Wanda S. and Jackie Holland of Ludowici and Mitchell and Alethia Baxter of Ludowici; brothers and sisters, Rachel and Steven Moore, Brad and Kelly Baxter and Hope and David Newell, all of Ludowici; daughter, Melissa Stanfield of Glennville; granddaughter, Brittany Stanfield; great - grandchild, Jayden Grimes, nephews, Nicholas Moore, Devin Newell and Garrett Baxter; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 12, 2007, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Employees of Long County Road Department.
Honorary pallbearers were Beard’s Creek Hunting Club and Georgia Dog Hunter’s Association.

Virginia P. Bland, 92

Virginia P. Bland, 92, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Liberty County native had lived in this area most of their life. She was a retired dietary worker at Tattnall Memorial Hospital. She loved to sew, quilt and travel and was a member of Beard’s Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Remer Kelly Bland; daughter, Doretha Blocker, and son, Johnny Bland.
Survivors include daughters and sons - in - law, Betty and Kenneth Blocker of Glennville and Kathryn and Fredrick Purvis of Swainsboro; sister, Vivian Wilson of Savannah; bother, I.B. Porter of Chapin, SC; 12 grandchildren; 18 great - grandchildren and three great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 14, 2007, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Reverend Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bobby Blocker, Kelly Bland, Joe Blocker, Garland Wilson, Kevin Purvis and Michael Purvis.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Goldie Bacon, 74

Goldie Bacon, 74, passed away April 4, 2007, at home.
The Somerset, OH, native was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Glennville, GA. She lived in Tampa, FL, before moving to Claxton about 22 years ago.
She was a loving housewife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Curtis Bacon of Claxton; one son and daughter - in - law, Eddie and Carrie Bacon of Lakeland, FL; one brother, Johnny McCabe of OH; six grandchildren, three great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Saturday, April 7, 2007, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial following in Brewton Cemetery.
J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home was in charge of all the arrangements.
