Doretha “Dot” Nobles Purcell, 85

Doretha “Dot” Nobles Purcell, 85, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2007, at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. The Tattnall County native had lived in Jacksonville and Glennville most of her life. She was retired from King Edward Cigar Factory in Jacksonville and was a member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie M. Purcell.
She is survived by a daughter, Evelyn Rudd of Jacksonville, FL; a grandson, Elmer Rudd Jr., of Jacksonville, FL; a granddaughter, Evetter Hendrix of Bryonville, GA; and a great - granddaughter, Monica Martin of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bobby Folsom, Jay Folsom, Jimmy Hendrix, Kenny Long, Ennis Purcell and Charles Moody.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2007 at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Barnard officiating.

Wilma J. Oliver Deal, 71

Wilma J. Oliver Deal, 71, passed away Sunday morning at her residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins many years, before moving to Statesboro eight months ago. She was a seamstress employed at J.D. Sportswear in Cobbtown for many years. She was a member of Collins Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Deal; son, Tony Oliver; brother, Charles Oliver; sisters, Myrtis Durrence and Myrtle Jane Crabtree.

She is survived by three daughters, Gina Oliver of Savannah, Linda Lamb of Metter and Billie Jean Deal of Statesboro; two sons, Rodney Deal of Statesboro and Jamie Deal of Lyons; sister Neva Collins of Statesboro; two brothers, Taft Oliver of Mt. Vernon and Cleon Oliver of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 11 great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted 6:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Little Flock Primitive Baptist Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mary Flake Jarriel, 81

Mrs. Mary Flake Jarriel, 81, died Friday at East Georgia Medical Center. The Bulloch County native lived in Savannah over 40 years before moving to the Cedar Creek community in 1989. Mrs. Jarriel was a homemaker and a representative for Stanley Home Products. She was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and a former member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Savannah. Mary was a wonderful cook who enjoyed hosting the family gatherings. She loved working in her yard, putting up vegetables and caring and cooking for her family. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She gave sacrificially of her time and talents to help friends and family members in times of need. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Coleman Jarriel of Collins; son and daughter - in - law, Jerry Jarriel Jr. and Gail of Cobbtown; daughter and son - in - law, Alice and Steve Kauble of Tulsa, OK; brothers, Jesse Flake of Guyton and Delos Flake of Brooklet; sisters, Ella Nora Parrish of Green Cove Springs, FL and Jane Inez Flake of Atlanta; grandchildren and their spouses, Beth and Dave Bodily of Killeen, TX, Gary and Donnie Jarriel of Cedar Creek, Stephen Kauble and Sarah Kauble both of Tulsa, OK; two great grandchildren, Mitchell and Darci Bodily.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jarriel were conducted Monday at Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church near Collins, with burial following in the church cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.

Herbert A. Mobley, 83

Herbert A. Mobley, 83, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at his residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II with the 158th Combat Engineers that went on to the Beach at Normandy in the Battle of Bastone in 1944. He was retired Resident Engineer with Georgia Department of Transportation and served on the Tattnall County Hospital Authority for 12 years. He was a member of First Christian Church for the past 70 years where he also served as a Deacon from 1947 until 2000, then Deacon Emeritus until present.
He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Mobley, of Glennville; sons and daughters - in - law, Jimmy and Carolyn Mobley of Powder Springs and Gary and Donna Mobley of Glennville; brother and sister - in - law, Thurmon and Lila Mobley of Glennville; grandchildren, Melissa and Jeff Rehberg of Doraville, Phillip Mobley and Maranda Mobley, both of Powder Springs, Megan Mobley of Statesboro and Garrett Mobley of Glennville; great - granddaughter, Isabella Rehberg of Doraville; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 13, 2007, at First Christian Church of Glennville with Reverend Jack Hudson and Reverend James Crockett officiating. Burial followed in the Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Jerome Sheffield, John O. Parker, Billy Neal Parker, Gene Wilkinson, Leighton Dasher, Mickey Wasson and George (Buck) Blocker. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Dasher, Dennis Folsom, Drexel Blocker Sr., and Deacons and Elders of Glennville First Christian Church.

George D. Adamson, 79

George D. Adamson, 79, passed away Monday, July 2, 2007, at Memorial Health University Medical Center. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. The U.S. Army Veteran, was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the University of Georgia. He was an amateur photographer, an avid naturalist and outdoorsman and a great supporter of the American Indian culture. He was a member of the Glennville United Methodist Church and a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Grace Sikes Adamson and a daughter, Amy Adamson Bowen.
Survivors include special friend, Mary Dyer of Glennville; daughters and son - in - law, Paula and Rick Wolf and Christi Adamson, all of Glennville; sister, Lyndal Rogers of Glennville; eight grandchildren, five great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 5, 2007, at Glennville City Cemetery with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating.
Pallbearers were Cory Altman, Tyson Morris, Justin Altman, Allen Crabtree, Clay Kicklighter and Ryan Adamson.

Jimmie Lee Cain, 74

Jimmie Lee Cain, 74, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at St. Joseph’s / Candler Hospital in Savannah, GA. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael A. Cain; sisters, Anna C. Crawford and Alice C. Robinson; and three brothers, Clifford Cain Sr., Leroy Cain and Jerry Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Milded Miller Cain; son, James A. Cain; daughters, Patricia A. Cain, Jimmie Nell Cain, Jacquelyn (Jeffrey) Horton, Sheila (Gary) Garrett, Toni L. Cain and Shirley Bacon, raised as his own daughter; sisters, Ernestine Wright, Paulette Bland, Gladys Mincey, Annie L. Berry, Rosa L. Rogers, Pauline (Robert) Whetstone, Cennie Holiday; brothers, George (Terri) Cain, Clifford (Burdette) Cain and James Cain; grandchildren, great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many sorrowing friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James AME Church, 512 Laura St., Glennville, GA.

Dorothy B. Durrence, 95

Dorothy B. Durrence, 95, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She retired from Food Services with the Tattnall County Board of Education. She was a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class, Ladies Circle and the Choir.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, Carolyn and Talmadge Todd, Linda and Ed Banks, and LeGay and Bobby Fuller all of Glennville; son and daughter - in - law, Ronnie and Bytha Durrence of Glennville; sister, Claudine Bland of Glennville; half sisters, Frances Bouy, Willene Brewton, Johnnie Lou Mitchell all of Savannah; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, 2007, at Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder David Summerford officiating. Interment followed in the Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Shawn Driggers, Lee Quick, Jeremy Wiggins, Greg Durrence, Eddie Banks, and Eric Durrence.

Gevonnie “Juke” Sauls, 54

Gevonnie “Juke” Sauls, 54, of Pembroke, died July 6, 2007, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, after a sudden illness. Mr. Sauls was a native of Bryan County, having lived most of his life in the Pembroke area. He was retired, an avid hunter and fisherman and Baptist by faith.
Survivors include, his wife, Catherine Sauls; two daughters, Katie Sauls and Heather Sauls all of Pembroke; one brother and sister - in - law, Archie and Janice Sauls of Nevils and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 9, 2007, in Carter Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jackie officiating. Burial followed in the Green Bay Cemetery, in Fort Stewart, GA.

Jimmy E. Todd, 65

Jimmy E. Todd, 65, passed away at his residence under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was retired from Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation and was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ennis and Bertha DeLoach Todd; sisters, Eula and Irene; brother, James Todd; Grandson, Michael Allen Ansel, II.
He is survived by his wife Mary E. Todd of Glennville; children, Eric Garvin of Savannah, Carlton Todd, Edwin Todd, Lisa Clark, Lynne Todd, Beth Ray and Harry Garvin, all of Glennville; sisters, Myrtle Caison of Glennville, Nadine Carter of Yulee, FL, Amanda Moody of Baxley and Janice Pulchinski of Chicago, IL; brothers, Larry Todd of Falkville, Roger Todd of Hinesville, Ronald Todd and Harold Todd, both of Glennville; nine grandchildren, one great - grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 7, 2007, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with the Reverend David Hagan officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
