Robert Dale Tippins, 47

As the Master was looking over His garden of flowers, He spotted one Robert Dale Tippins, who had lost his lust for life and his body was wracked with pain. He softly whispered, “Come home, my child. I need you in my heavenly bouquet.” Thus, our loved one departed this life on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, GA.
Robert Dale Tippins was born October 3, 1960, in Liberty County, GA, to the late James W. and Lillie Mae Tippins of Glennville, GA.
He received his education in the public schools of Long County. Among a list of career opportunities, Dale was employed as a heavy equipment operator with Kenny Edwards.
His life will be cherished by his loving fiancée, Maybell Mincey of Baxley; two daughters, Nicole Carter of Baxley and Nickcole Jenkins of Chesapeake, VA; one son, Travis Tippins of Abbeville, GA; four brothers, James W. Tippins Jr. (Brenda) of Hinesville, Bill Tippins of Augusta, Glen Tippins of Stuart, FL and Joel Tippins (Camolela) of Ludowici; four sisters, Shirlene Perry of Augusta, Barbara Lisbon, Lisa (John) Davis, and Stephanie (Ricky) Thomas, all of Glennville; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, a special nephew, Corey Lisbon and other cousins, relatives and loving friends.
The funeral was held Friday, May 9, 2008, at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Ludowici, GA, with Reverend Quentin J. Morris officiating. Interment followed in the Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Gilbert Henry, Jimmy Henry, J.P. Henry, Albert Porter, Thomas Richardson and Daniel Smith. Honorary pallbearers were Harrison Gibbs, Jimmy Robinson, Tommy Bacon, Dwight Johnson, Donahue McNeal and Navey Johnson.
King and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Marla Lynn Mercer, 50

Marla Lynn Mercer, 50, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The native of Bulloch County lived several years in Savannah before returning to Metter in 1995. She was a painter and enjoyed woodworking, making swings, tables and birdhouses. She was predeceased by her father Ben Ebb Mercer and brother Kenney Ray Mercer.
She is survived by her mother, Vonelle C. Mercer Gillis of Metter; brothers, Ben E. (Wanda) Mercer of Metter, and Jimmy Wayne (Sherry) Mercer of Charleston SC; several nieces and nephews and two great nieces.
Funeral services were Friday, May 2, at the funeral home. Burial followed in the Rosemary Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA. 30459.

Maderia Kennedy Porter, 82

Maderia Kennedy Porter, 82, a resident of Glennville, GA, died Sunday, May 4, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Ardelia Tippins Jones and Steve Allen. She was employed at Glenvue Nursing Home for many years.
She was a loving mother to all of her children. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Robert A. (Betty) Porter of Chicago, IL, Ronnie Bland of Savannah, GA, Veronica (James) Bassi of Detroit, MI, Karla K. Bacon and Kristi M. Porter of Glennville, GA, Jeffrey Porter and Vincent Cuyler of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Ruth Williams of Greelyville, SC, and Mary Lee Fraizer of Glennville, GA; two adopted sons, Louis (Thelma) Sapp and Charles (Rita) Fulton of Waynesboro, GA; a sister - in - law, Lucille Billingslea of Deerfield Beach, FL; a special nephew, Paul S. Grubbs of Glennville; 14 grandchildren, ten great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 12, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church.

Frances Folsom T. Stephens, 86

Mrs. Frances Folsom T. Stephens, 86, died May 6, 2008, at Tattnall Community Hospital. Born May 20, 1921, in Reidsville, Georgia, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Mrs. Stephens graduated from Reidsville High School and the Orlando School of Cosmetology. She retired as Chief Operator of Coastal Utilities in Hinesville, Georgia, after thirty years of employment.
She was a lifelong member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church where she served as a member of the Administrative Board, past chairman of the Guild Chapter of Methodist Women, children’s Sunday School teacher, and was a charter member of the 60 More or Less Group. She was a charter member of the Lillian Eason Sunday School Class and was affectionately known as the “official dishwasher” for church dinners and events.
She was a charter member and past chairman of the Historical Society, and the preservation of the Alexander Hotel was dear to her heart. She was a member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association, the Tattnall County Library Board, the Red Cross Mobile Unit, and the American Cancer Society. She was also a member of the Reidsville Rascalettes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. J.E. Stephens; her mother, Eva Kennedy DuBose; her step - father, Winston DuBose; her father, George Folsom; brother, James Folsom; sister, Edith Beach; and her grandson, Chan Alan Trim.
She is survived by her son and daughter - in - law, Jackie and Lisa Trim; sister, Peggy Rewis; grandson and granddaughter - in - law, Clay and Tiffany Trim all of Reidsville; granddaughter and grandson - in - law, Lupe and Tele Wood of Kennesaw; great - grandchildren, Chandler Blake Trim and Maria Esperanza Wood; nieces, Lynda Mobley and Francine Manskee; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Thursday, May 8 at the Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, May 9, 2008, from the Reidsville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorial may be given to the Reidsville United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Talmadge Lee Todd, Sr. 89

Talmadge Lee Todd, Sr. 89, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of his life. He was a retired farmer, loved hunting and was a member of Pineview Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Todd of Reidsville; sons and daughters - in - law, Talmadge, Jr. and Sandra Todd of Reidsville and Jessie W. and Alfreeda Todd of Lyons; daughters and sons - in - law, Carolyn and Raymond Todd of Brooklet, Rosie Ann and James Johnson of Helen, AL, and Earldene and Robert Bruce Sanders of Vidalia; brother, Loyce Todd of Blackshear; 12 grandchildren; 29 great - grandchildren; four great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 8, 2008, at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Ronald Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Todd, Phil Dees, Rodney Todd, Scott Dees, Ashley Galbreath, Bobby Sanders.
Remembrances may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, 201 Television Circle, Savannah, GA 31406.

Lavon Collins Bird, 71

Lavon Collins Bird, 71, of Cobbtown died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native and lifelong resident of Cobbtown was retired from Augusta Sportswear as a seamstress. Lavon did enjoy her life and loved the Atlanta Braves. Her favorite pastime was watching wrestling while visiting her great - grandson and eating with friends, Danny and Patricia Brown. She attended Sunlight Primitive Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, David and Misty Bird of Cobbtown; a daughter and son - in - law, Renee and Jiggs Marsh of Brooklet; four grandchildren, James Marsh Jr. and Michael Marsh both of Brooklet, Maci Bird and Dylan Bird both of Cobbtown; and one great - grandson, James Herman Marsh III; three brothers, Frank Collins of Titusville, FL, Howard Collins of Guyton, GA and J.C. Collins of Claxton.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Elder Richard Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Medlock, Marvin Dixon, Heath Brown, Ronnie Funderburk, Kermit Martin and Matthew Rigdon.

Tommy Gene Dickey, 78

Tommy Gene Dickey, 78, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Veteran’s Hospital in Dublin. He was born in Tampa, FL, and moved to Cobbtown in 1971 after military retirement. He began his career as a medic in U.S. Navy and retired as Senior Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Tommy was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church where he had served as treasurer, and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Roger Wood Masonic Lodge in Cobbtown, the Scottish Rites in Savannah, the American Legion post and served on the Cobbtown City Council. Tommy enjoyed woodcarving and was an avid history reader. He was preceded in death by his wife, Loree Collins Dickey.
He is survived by a wonderful family of cousins, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 26, 2008, from the Chapel of Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown, with burial following in the Sunlight Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Will Lanier, Hudak Hendrix, Doy Hendrix, Wayne Hendricks, Jimmy Sanders and Ronnie Carter.
Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.

Diane Freeman, 50

Diane Freeman, 50, died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at her home. The lifelong resident of Metter was a member of the Metter Church of God. She is survived by her husband, Steve Freeman; son, Jason Williams; mother, Helen Bello, all of Metter; brother, Philip Roberts; sister, Sandra Piel, both of Savannah and grandson, Jordan Williams.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Portal City Cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

James Harrelson, 73

Mr. James Harrelson, 73, passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. The Emanuel County native had lived in Claxton many years before moving to Collins six years ago. He was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was retired from Lyons Veneer Mill. He attended Collins Full Gospel Tabernacle. Mr. Harrelson was preceded in death by his wife of 52years, Irene Weaver Harrelson, a son, Billy Harrelson and a daughter, Regina Harrelson.
He is survived by: two daughters, Dorothy Harrelson and Tonia Fletcher both of Collins; three sons, Danny Weaver of Reidsville, and Hugie Harrelson and Emory Bud Harrelson both of Collins; two sisters, Susan Huggins of Pembroke and Lucille McComb of California; 17 grandchildren, numerous great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were conducted Saturday, April 26, 2008, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Nelms officiating. Interment followed in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home is serving the Harrelson Family.

James Willis Walker, 76

James Willis Walker, 76, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at his home. He was born in Candler County and lived in Eaton Park, FL, for many years before moving back to Tattnall County. Willis was a supervisor at Florida Tiles, a farmer and a retired security guard at Meadows Regional Hospital in Vidalia. He was an Army veteran and a member of the New Life Baptist Church in Metter. Willis was a wonderful husband and father and loved to restore old cars. He was preceded in death by his sister, Willene Hess and a brother, Lonnie Walker.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Wilds Walker of Collins; two sons, Johnny Walker of Collins and Willis Wayne Walker of Cobbtown; five daughters and sons - in - law, Betty Jo and Lee Jarriel, Linda Kaye and Bob Hansen both of Collins, Anita Hozey of Metter, Margaret Ann and Sam Young of Lyons, Patsy and Mike Ernst of Collins; seven brothers and sisters, Shelton Walker, Alvin Walker, Josephine Alford, Nilafaye Rewis, Idell Gunter, Aletha Howell and Lorene Lloyd, all of Florida; 21 grandchildren; five great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Reverend Andy Haman officiating. Cremation will follow. Cremain burial will be held later at Anderson Church Cemetery.
