Fred Michael Durrence, 48

Fred Michael Durrence, 48, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at his residence in Glennville. The Appling County native had lived in the Glennville and Reidsville areas most of his life. He was a heavy equipment operator employed by G & R Farms and Dasher Industries. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Annie Merle Durrence.
He is survived by his companion, Connie Sikes of Glennville; daughter, Amanda Durrence Williams of Waycross; sisters, Annette Anderson, Kathy Wilkes and Michelle Durrence, all of Reidsville; brother, James Durrence of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, November 28, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Reidsville Cemetery with Reverend Mike Gay officiating.
Pallbearers were Marc Floyd, John Mackinnon, Sylvester Smith, Jeff Terry, Josh Terry and Brad Wilkes.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Opaline H. Gay, 65

Mrs. Opaline H. Gay, age 65, passed away, Tuesday afternoon, November 25, 2008, at the Doctors Hospital of Tattnall. The Truetlen County native was reared in Toombs County and lived in Tattnall County all of her adult life. She was a retired Correctional Officer serving at the Georgia State Prison. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Gay.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Mr. Herman Gay of Reidsville; two sons and daughters - in - law, Greg and Patsy Gay and Mike and Carolyn Gay all of Cedar Crossing; a sister, Joann Beshires of Reidsville; a brother, Alvie Holton of Alston; two grandchildren, Brittany Gay and Michael Gay, both of Cedar Crossing; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Louie Hightower, Thomas Bland, Johnny Mimbs, OT Ray, Kenneth Mosley, and Neal Anderson.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 28, 2008, 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Allen Rea officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Julian Griffin, 85

Julian Griffin, 85, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah and Alabama for many years prior to moving back to Glennville in 1982. He was retired from Union Camp Corporation after 38 years of service. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of Glennville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and in many other capacities. He was a member of The Gideon’s International Tattnall - Evans Camp, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Griffin.
He is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Billy and Marie Griffin of Richmond Hill and Daniel and Beverly Griffin of Rincon; sister and brother - in - law, Merle and Lattie Gene Futch of Tifton; brother and sister - in - law, Vernon and Nancy Griffin of Glennville; grandchildren, Stacy Sellers (Mark) and Amy Mock (Jeff); great grandchildren, Austin, Joseph and Hannah and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 2, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Glennville First Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Vernon Dasher, David Holland, Joey Futch, Chris Quick, Dennis Odom and Alan Everett. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Glennville First Baptist Church (active and inactive) and members of The Gideon’s International.
Remembrances may be made to The Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 275, Hagan, GA 30429.

Gladys Thornton Hallman, 85

Gladys Thornton Hallman, 85, died Thursday, November 27, 2008, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Brantley County native had lived in this area most of her life and was a florist for over 30 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Glennville United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Norman J. Hallman.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma H. Masters of Atlanta; sisters - in - law, Nina Mae McLeod of Glennville and Thelma Stockton of Livingston, TN and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 30, 2008, 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating.
Pallbearers were Jim Shuman, Larry McLeod, William Jackson, David Smith, Daniel Smith and Jerry Burkhalter.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Onita Carter Hutchinson, 82

Onita Carter Hutchinson, 82, died Saturday, November 29, 2008, at Azalea Health and Rehab in Metter under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was born in Montgomery County, the daughter of the late Joseph and Essie Mae Taylor Carter and raised in Cobbtown. Nita retired after 25 years with Kress Department Store in Savannah and moved back to Cobbtown in 1982. She was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church and the widow of Mitchell A. Hutchinson.
Survivors are a daughter, Beverly Jones of Reidsville; four sons, Mitchell Hutchinson, Jr. (Teresa) of Savannah, Richard Hutchinson (Sonya) of Brooklet, Wayne Hutchinson (Debbie) of Bulloch County and Kelvin Hutchinson of Cobbtown; two sisters, Willene Monroe of Cobbtown and Marian Davis of Jacksonville, FL; one brother, Roger Carter of Metter; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, December 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Rev. Andy Haman officiating. Burial followed in the Lake Cemetery. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Remembrances may be made to the Cobbtown Baptist Church, POB176, Cobbtown, GA, 30420.

Louise T. Story, 94

Louise T. Story, 94 of Tampa entered into rest November 24, 2008.
She is survived by her son, Ben Story; granddaughters, Marsha K. Futch, Pam J. Edmonson; a great - grandson, Zachary Ray Futch; sisters, Lillian Spinale, Flora Matassinis.
She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family. A funeral service was held Monday, December 1, 2008, at Marsicano - B. Marion Reed - Stowers Funeral Home, 4040 Henderson Blvd. Interment was Tuesday, December 2, 2008 in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn, GA.
Marsicano - B. Marion Reed - Stowers Funeral Home. Perry Funeral Chapel of Ashburn was in charge of local arrangements.

Walter N. Adler, 59

Walter N. Adler, 59, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009, at his residence. The Richmond County native had lived in New Mexico for several years before moving to Glennville two years ago. He was a Navy Veteran and employed with Windstream Communication in Glennville. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Adler of Glennville; daughter, Michelle Adler of California; brother, William Adler of McKinney, TX and several other relatives.
Memorial Funeral services were held Sunday, February 22, 2009, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Raymond D. Bland, 81

Mr. Raymond D. Bland, 81, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at home with his family by his side.
Mr. Raymond was born in Long County on the Fort Stewart Reservation in 1927.
He moved to Tattnall County at age 15. There he met the love of his life, Rubye Jean Bradley. They were married August 14, 1948, and shared 60 wonderful years together.
He was a farmer who was a pioneer in the Vidalia onion business and the founder of Bland Farms. He was the “Man of the Year” for the Soil and Water Conservation in 1979. He was also the 1995 Vidalia Sweet Onion Grower of the Year, and was inducted into the Sweet Onion Hall of Fame in 2006.
Mr. Raymond was a member and Deacon of Pineview Baptist Church in Reidsville.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rubye Jean Bradley Bland; one son and daughter - in - law, Delbert and Sandra Bland; three daughters and sons - in - law, Shirley and Hal Waters, Hollie and Willie Durrence, Faye and Chan Williams; nine grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Bland, and one sister, Katie Lee Futch.
The funeral was held Saturday, February 21, at the Pineview Baptist Church, Hwy 121, Reidsville, GA. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pineview Baptist Church building fund.

Bessie Bowen Collins, 94

Bessie Bowen Collins, 94, of Cobbtown, died on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at Azalea Health and Rehab in Metter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Collins; parents, Stephen Bowen and Emma Collins Bowen; six brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Ruth and Lamar Clanton; one grandson, James Lamar (Sheri) Clanton Jr.; two great - grandchildren, Angie and Matthew; two step - grandchildren, Chad and Rebecca and many nieces and nephews from her brothers, John and Clem Bowen. Bessie spent her life living for the Lord and attended Hillside Church of God for over 70 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 23, 2009, from the chapel of Wood Funeral Home with Reverend Ron Morgan and Reverend Royce Mosley officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery. Nieces and nephews served as pallbearers.
Wood Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Sister Ossie Mae Collins, 86

Sister Ossie Mae Collins moved from her earthly home to the streets of gold in New Jerusalem City on Thursday, February 19, 2009, at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Savannah, GA.
Sister Collins was born in Manassas, Georgia, February 1, 1923. She moved to Glennville, Georgia, at an early age. She was married to Mr. Jesse Collins, who preceded her in death. To this union, three children were born. Two, James Collins and Cleveland Collins, preceded her in death.
Acknowledging her master, Sister Collins joined Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. T.J. Lynch. Later in life she united with First African Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Martin Bacon. She was faithful in Mission, Sunday School, Bible Study and a member of the E.J. Junior Guild.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted daughter, Linda (Gary) Bell; four grandchildren; five great - grandchildren; two very devoted friends, Bro. Thomas (Doris) Roberts; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 24 at First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville.
Pallbearers were James Tillman, Larry Coley, A.J. Harris, Ervin Roberts and Clinton Fair. Honorary pallbearers were members of First African Missionary Baptist Church and Greater Zachariah Missionary Baptist Church.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.
