Aletha Sikes Bacon, 90

Aletha Sikes Bacon, 90, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Evans County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Harvey Bacon.
She is survived by her daughters and sons - in - law, Wanda and Harry Futch of Ludowici, Lynn and Wayne Sapp of Claxton and Judy and David Waters of Claxton; sons and daughters - in - law, Ted Bacon of Glennville and Larry and Jane Bacon of Macon; sisters, Nell Surrency, Lynette Thompson and Alene Moore, all of Claxton; ten grandchildren, 14 great - grandchildren, one great - great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 16, 2009, at 3 p.m., from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Beards Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Carl Futch, Ashley Bacon, Jeremy Bacon, Kevin Sapp, Phil Futch and Cheyenne Gradstaff.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Master Emiliano Betancio, 2

Master Emiliano Betancio, age 2, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall after a vehicle accident. He attended the Migrant Head Start and the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe (Catholic Church on the Sandhills).
Survivors include his mother and father, Adela Areola Cruz and Benigno Betancio Estrada of Glennville; two brothers, Jose Alfredo Betancio - Areola and Gustavo Anthony Betancio - Areola; maternal grandparents, Alfredo Areola and Gina Cruz from Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico; paternal grandparents, Jose Betancio and Maria Del Refugio Estrada from Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico; cousins, Abram Cruz and Marcela Cruz of Glennville, Julio Cesar Betancio of Oregon, and Juan Carlos Gomalez - Areola of Mexico and other relatives.
Funeral Services were held 2:00 Wednesday March 18, 2009, from the Nuestra Senora De Guadalupe with Father Bob officiating. Interment followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be given to L.a.u.g.h.s Foundation, Inc., PO Box 1836, Vidalia, GA 30475.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Janie Baggs Clark, 94

Mrs. Janie Baggs Clark, age 94, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at Doctors Hospital of Tattnall in Reidsville. Mrs. Clark was a native of Long County, born to the parentage of Joseph and Sarah B. Baggs. For 57 years she lived in Tattnall County, and was a retired educator of the Tattnall County Board of Education. She was active in civic organizations and a faithful member of St. Phillip Baptist Church in Reidsville. She served as the church mother and church secretary.
Her surviving family members include a son and daughter - in - law, Larry and Maybelle Clark of Miami, FL; daughter and son - in - law, Sharice and Michael Johnson of Reidsville; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 14, 2009, at St. Phillip Baptist Church in Reidsville. Burial followed in Wilkerson Cemetery in Collins, GA.
Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway, GA, was charge of the arrangements.

John L. DeLoach, 71

Mr. John L. DeLoach, age 71 passed away Tuesday afternoon at the Claxton Nursing Home. The Evans County native had lived in Claxton and Hagan all of his life. He retired from the carpet business.
He is survived by his son, Michael DeLoach of Bluffton, SC; two sisters, Wanda Rowe of Hagan, and Jean Porte of Reidsville; four brothers, Kermit DeLoach, Jack DeLoach, Joe DeLoach and Lonnie DeLoach all of Claxton; two grandchildren, Sean and Brittany DeLoach both of Bluffton; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Joey Rowe, Kenny DeLoach, Dwayne DeLoach, David DeLoach, Anthony Smith, and Ashley Smith.
Funeral Services were held Friday, March 13, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home in Reidsville with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Canoochee Cemetery in Claxton.

Libby Thompson Durrence, 57

Libby Thompson Durrence, 57, began her eternal life on March 13, 2009, in the home that she established and filled with love.
Libby, born April 14, 1951, grew up in Glennville, Georgia, and graduated from Glennville High School in 1969. In 1973, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia. That same year she married her high school sweetheart, Eddie Durrence. After serving as a public health nurse in Candler County, Libby enjoyed being a fulltime homemaker and mother to her five daughters, whom she faithfully nurtured. Outside of loving her family, Libby’s greatest passion was serving others. She was a devoted lifelong member of Glennville United Methodist Church and served the community as a member of the Tattnall County Board of Health.
She was preceded in death by her father, H.D. Thompson Sr., and her father - in - law, Edsel C. Durrence Sr.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie Durrence of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - law, Anna and Charlton Rogers, Amber and Keith Wasson, Ashlan Durrence, all of Glennville, Addie and Adam Blocker of Claxton and Abigale and Davey Covey of Brunswick; her beloved grandchildren, Thomas and Grace Rogers, Mic and Will Wasson of Glennville and Libby Kate Blocker of Claxton; mother, Elizabeth Jane Thompson of Glennville; brothers and sister, Dorsey Thompson and Bran Thompson of Glennville and Vicky Webb of Springfield; mother - in - law, Wynell Durrence of Glennville; sisters - in - law, Jane Threlkeld of Glennville and Debbie Roderick of Bellville and several cherished nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 16, 2009, from the Glennville United Methodist Church with Reverend Vance Riggins, Elder Tom Sollosi and Dr. Richard Cabbage officiating. Burial followed in Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Wendy Durrence, Willie Bland, Will Sheffield, Jerry Branch, Joe Odom, Adair Branch, Mike Durrence and Winton Lee Kennedy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ogeechee Area Hospice of Statesboro, Georgia.

Miriam Warren Dutton, 85

Miriam Warren Dutton, 85, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life and was a loving mother, grandmother, great - grandmother. In her later years she lived in a former childhood home in the Birdford Community with her son and daughter - in - law, Jesse and Christine Dasher. She was very active in her children’s younger years and was also active in Glennville First Baptist Church mission activities where she gave much of her time to helping those less fortunate.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian Dutton. She is survived by her children, Jesse Warren and Christine Dasher of Glennville, Samuel Charles and Wendy Kicklighter of Brevard, NC and Jill Kicklighter and Jon Hardwick of St. Simons Island; grandchildren, Robert Hampton and Amanda Kicklighter of Statesboro, Samuel Luke Kicklighter of Brevard, NC, Lauren Breanne Hilton and Hannah Rose Hardwick of St. Simons Island; uncle and aunt, Junior and Vonceil Kirkland of Glennville; five great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Glennville First Baptist Church with Reverend Rick Brown officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ken Kirkland, Bill Whitlow, Robb Kicklighter, Will Sheffield, Samuel Kicklighter and Dewayne Ray. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Amanda DeLoach Sunday school class, John Kirkland, Aubrey Sikes, Van Sikes and Michael Kirkland.

Jason Hipchen, 32

Jason Hipchen, age 32, passed away Thursday morning, March 12, 2009, at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. The Wayne County native had lived in Jesup many years moving to Reidsville five years ago. He was employed with Northern Construction and attended Reidsville Church of God.
He is survived by his wife, Heather Jarriel Hipchen of Reidsville; two sons, Quince and Ethan Hipchen both of Reidsville; a daughter, Logan Jarriel of Glennville; his father, John Hipchen of Darien; his mother, Kathy Barton of Reidsville; three sisters, Catrina Griffin and Ashley Barton both of Reidsville and Desire Varadore of Brunswick; four brothers, Cody O’Neal of Jesup, Phil, Willie Joe, and Louis Hipchen all of Brunswick; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were John Hendley, Stacy Tootle, Johnny Blanton, Kendall Murray, Neal Bunch and Tony Spikes. Honorayr pallbearers were Staff of the Community Hospice.
Funeral Services were held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2009, from the Reidsville Church of God. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Herbert Louis Holton, 77

Herbert Louis Holton, 77, passed away Friday, March 13, 2009, at Chandler County Hospital in Metter. The Tattnall County native served in the United States Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, and graduated from Georgia Teachers College with two Masters Degrees. He taught at Glennville High School from 1959 - 1969 and served as Principal of Glennville Middle School from 1969 - 1976. When he left teaching he returned to his true love, which was farming and also worked with his brother at Holton Farm Supply.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Holton of Manassas; children, Amy H. and Lee Barnes of Atlanta, Steven and Dana Holton of Manassas, Robert L. Holton and their mother, Joyce A. Holton of Statesboro; stepchildren, Terry and Ann Dasher of Glennville, Renee Burnham and Lee Durrence of Glennville and Lang Dasher of Claxton; grandchildren, Laura L. Barnes and Elise Barnes, both of Atlanta; six step - grandchildren and three step - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 16, 2009, at 8:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville, with Reverend Truett Leveritt officiating. Burial was Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Bert Hendrix, Lonnie Callaway, Derwood Tootle, Brian Odom, Randy DeLoach and Terry Skinner. Honorary pallbearers were neighbors.
Remembrances may be sent to Special Olympics Georgia, Suite 400, Building 400, Atlanta, Georgia 30340.

Julian T. McCall, 94

Mr. Julian T. McCall, age 94, passed away Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, at the Candler County Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins most of his life. He owned and operated the McCall Slaughter House and Grocery Store in Collins for many years. He was a former Mayor of Collins and was a member of Roger Wood Masonic Lodge of Cobbtown. He was also a former deacon and a member of the Collins Baptist Church. Mr. McCall is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby McCall; daughter, Carolyn McCall and a son, Marcus J. McCall.
He is survived by: his sons and daughters - in - law: John and Bonita McCall of Macon, Terrell and Sharon McCall of Blackshear, and Jackie Winge McCall of Lyons; brother, Jack McCall of Savannah; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, from the Collins Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Collins Baptist Church Building Fund.

June L. Benefield, 83

June L. Benefield, 83, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Ohio native had lived in Interlachen, FL for many years before moving to Glennville in 1996. She was retired from the Sunnyland Hospital in Florida caring for the mentally handicapped children and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Benefield; sister, Lois King and parents, James and Katherine Wilson.
She is survived by her children, Susan Linnander of Glennville, Murray and Donna Benefield of Glennville, Chuck and Marie Hubler of Interlachen, FL. and Carl Hubler of Sevierville, TN; sisters, Dorothy Detrick of Winder, GA, Violet Carr of Gahanna, OH, and Ruth and Johnny Fenstermaker of Amsterdam, OH; brother, Carl and Betty Wilson of Perkman, OH; eight grandchildren, eight great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Jerry Knight and Murray Benefield officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Mitchell Benefield, Timothy Benefield, Jonathan Benefield, Timothy DeLoach, Daniel Boecker and Eric Durrence.
Remembrances may be made to Glenvue Nursing Home, 721 N. Downing Musgrove Highway, Glennville, GA 30427.
