Marian L. Hutto, 82

Ms. Marian L. Hutto, age 82, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Okeechobee, FL, native had lived in Claxton for 18 years, prior to moving to Reidsville five years ago. She was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Dewy W. Hutto; son, Marion Eugene Arrington; parents, George and Aga Wynn and a brother, George Wynn Jr.
She is survived by four grandchildren, James E. Arrington, Darrell E. Arrington, Jennifer L. Noe and Audra J. Villagomez and 14 great - grandchildren.
Memorial services were held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, June 18, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with the Reverend Sterling Bargeron officiating.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home served the Hutto family.

Angela Shuman Kappes, 61

Mrs. Angela Shuman Kappes age 61, passed away Thursday at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a member of the Reidsville High School Class of 1965, an alumnus of The University of Georgia and received her masters from Georgia State University. For two years she served as the Zoo - Mobile Lady for the Atlanta Zoo. She was retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education, having served as an educator for thirty years. She was extremely proud of having taught students in the Tattnall County Gifted Program. She was the Chapter Regent of the General Josiah Tattnall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; a trustee of the Tattnall Campground; and a member of the Retired Educators of Georgia. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church her entire life, where she served on the RUMC administrative board, as well as director of the 60 More or Less Choir and Chancel Choir, and she was a member of the Cora Herndon Circle, and the Joyful Sunday School Class. She was the district chairperson of the United Methodist Women nominating committee. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Judge and Mrs. Mike Eason; and her father, F. Jenarel Shuman.
She is survived by her husband of thirty - nine years, John Kappes of Reidsville; her mother, Virginia E. Kicklighter of Reidsville; four daughters and son - in - Law, Pamela and Jimmy Harper of Daisy, Donna Allen of Reidsville, Judy Gillis of Glennville, and Angela Marie Allen Kappes of Reidsville; a son John Kappes Jr. of Louiville, KY; a brother and sister - in - law, F.J. “Johnny” and Dedra Shuman of Swainsboro; a niece, Meredith Yarbrough of Macon; nephews, Brian Shuman of Fitchburg, Massachusetts and JR Shuman of Swainsboro.
Funeral Services were held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 21, 2009, from the Reidsville United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be given to: Reidsville United Methodist Church, PO Box 218, Reidsville, GA 30453 or Tattnall Campground C/O Cheryl Conley, 5356 Rufus Sapp Rd. Claxton, GA 30417.

Hazel Strickland Thomas, 83

Hazel Strickland Thomas, 83, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall county native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She was employed with Glennville Lingerie, Glenvue Nursing Home and was a homemaker. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Brian Thomas of Glennville and Roxanne Thomas of Cobbtown; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brian Jim Thomas, Chris Krull, Mason Selph, Nicholas Thompson, Earnest McGlashan and Brad Grooms.

Billy Ray Watson, 64

Billy Ray Watson, 64, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Brantley County, Georgia. The North Carolina native had lived in the Kingsland area most of his life. He was a Navy veteran and employed in the poultry industry.
He is survived by his children, Angela and Tony Johnson, Debra and James Holloway and Michelle Cobb, all of Glennville; brothers, Freddie Watson of Folkston and James Watson of Oklahoma; sister - in - law, Mona Watson of Williamston, NC; seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial funeral services were held Saturday, June 20, 2009, at the Glennville Church of God, with Reverend Roger Nelson officiating. Burial was private.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made: to Billy Watson Memorial Fund, c/o Debra Holloway, 53 Lady Bug Lane, Glennville, GA 30427.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

John Wallace Whitaker, 81

Mr. John Wallace Whitaker, age 81, passed away Wednesday at the Community Hospice Inpatient Center in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He was the maintenance supervisor at Tattnall Memorial Hospital, retiring after 21 years of service. He was a builder and loved to farm. Mr. Whitaker is preceded in death by his parents, J.E. and Florence Whitaker and a sister, Lona Mae Wells.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilda Louise Whitaker of Reidsville; a daughter and son - in - law, Gloria and Aaron Glisson of Reidsville; a son and daughter - in - law, Billy R. and Jerrie Whitaker of Reidsville; eight grandchildren, Tina R. Edwards (Chris), Tammy R. Durrence (Mark), Wallace Rhoden (Tammy), Michelle Pittman, Tanner Whitaker, Georgi Banks, Dane Glisson (Kathy), and Derek Glisson (Sally); 20 great - grandchildren, Brittany Hollingworth, Dylan Durrence, Ryan Renfoe, Tori Padgett, Charla Durrence, Trinton Rhoden, Toby Rhoden, Talib Rhoden, Chase Edwards, Alicia Quarles, Leah Roderick (Josh), Sarah Klymshyn (Darrien), Rachel Glisson, Austin Glisson, Dianne Glisson, Drew Dun, Crystal Dunn, Rece Dunn, Katrinia, Mallory and Deanna Norton.
Funeral Services were held Friday, June 19, 2009, from the Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Miller, Rev. Marc Foster and Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to: The Tattnall Health Care Center, Patient Activities Fund, 142 Memorial Drive, Reidsville, GA 30453

Earl Wilkins, 80

Earl Wilkins, 80, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2009, at his residence under the care of his family and Pearls of Life Hospice. The North Carolina native had lived in this area since 1970. He was a carpenter in the construction industry and loved to fish and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Johnson Wilkins of Glennville; children, Linda and Andy Wilson, Dennis Wilkins and Kendra Wilkins Pearce, all of Glennville; sister and brother - in - law, Shelby and Ralph Cresce of Eaton, OH; six grandchildren; 12 great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday, June 22, 2009, at Glennville Memorial Gardens with Chaplin Max Kennedy officiating.
Pallbearers were Ethan Wilkins, Stacy Howard, Andy Wilson Jr., Calvin Howell, Jimmy Anderson and Curt Freeman.

Eleanor Wilkes Cain, 82

Eleanor Wilkes Cain, 82, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Toombs County native had previously lived in Florida, moving to this area many years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Pigot Branch Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, Gus Daniel of Ormond Beach, FL, and C.L. Roberson of Alabama; sisters and brothers, Elmer Wilkes of Flowery Branch, GA, Irene Eisenhower of Rock Hill, SC, and Mildred Allen of Round Rock, TX, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Brannen - Kennedy Chapel, with Reverend James O. Young and Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Lake Cemetery in Metter, GA.
Pallbearers were Ted Gibbs, Buddy Paradise, Garland Wilkes, “Buckshot” Reddish, Luke Reddish and Quinton Rush.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Thurmon M. Dasher, 80

Thurmon M. Dasher, 80, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The lifelong native of Tattnall County was a farmer and businessman. He was a member of Mendes Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday school Superintendent. He was a member of Philadelphia Lodge #73, Scottish Rites 32 Degree and a member of the Alee Shrine of Savannah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce W. Dasher, and a son, Robert Dasher.
He is survived by his children, R. Terry Waters (Pam) of Glennville, Kenneth Waters (Faye) of Glennville, T. Mark Dasher (Julie) of Reidsville and Connie Doolittle of Glennville; sisters, Dean King of Moultrie and Anne Norburg of Springfield; eight grandchildren, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, 2009, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed in Battle Creek Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers were Brad Dasher, Brett Holland, Lee Dasher, Brandon Waters, Ryan Waters and Kyle Waters. Honorary pallbearers were members of Glennville High School class of 1946.
Remembrances may be made to Mendes Baptist Church, c/o Beverly Purvis, 67 Mendes Road, Glennville, GA 30427 or Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Jesse Cranford, 323 Cranford Lane, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Frances Batay Fountain, 87

Mrs. Frances Batay Fountain, 87, of Vidalia, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Bethany Assisted Living in Vidalia.
She was the daughter of the late Dan Batay and Leicy Ann Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eschol Fountain and a son, E.F. Fountain.
She is survived by two daughters and sons - in - law, Martha and James Horne of Vidalia and Joy and Powell Collins of Lyons; one daughter - in - law, Elaine Fountain of Vidalia; six grandchildren, Sonya and David Patterson of Winston Salem, NC, Keith and Lindy Horne of Lyons, Karen and Glenn Outler of Alston, Connie and Mike Lotheridge of Vidalia, Pat and Sherri Collins of Sylvania and Amy and Phillip Culpepper of Vidalia and 12 great - grandchildren.
She was a member of the Higgston Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Oxford Industry in Vidalia and owner of Country Cousins gift shop of Reidsville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia, with Reverend Mark Jones officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Pat Collins, Travis Coxwell, Phillip Culpepper, Lamar Fountain, Mike Lothridge and Ray Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were residents and staff of Bethany Assisted Living and Serenity Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Higgston Baptist Church Building Fund, 512 James Street, Ailey, GA 30410.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of the arrangements.
