Mr. William Edward (Bill) O'Berry, 23, died early Saturday morning (February 20, 1979) at Satilla Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Homerville but had resided most of his life in Ware County.
He was a member of Indian Mound Baptist Church and was a 1997 graduate of Ware County High School. He was a certified welder and was a former employee of Huey's Welding.
The survivors include his parents, Rondal and Linda O'Berry of Millwood; a brother, Benji O'Berry (wife Maryann) of Waycross; two nieces, Christian O'Berry and Taylor O'Berry; a nephew, Benjamin O'Berry ; his grandparents, Curtis and Betty Gurley of Millwood; a great-grandmother, Fanny Gurley of Pearson; and numerous aunts, uncles and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Indian Mound Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Indian Mound Cemetery. The body will be carried to the church at 5:00 p.m. Monday and the family will receive friends at the church until funeral time.

Nellie Irene Sweat

Mrs. Nellie Irene Sweat, 70, died Tuesday night (Feb. 4, 2003) at her residence after an extended illness.
She is a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. She has been disabled for over 25 years. She also attended Hebardville Baptist Church.
She is the daughter of Jessie Hill and Ruthie Irene Cason Hill. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Kelly C. Hill and Bob Hill; and a sister, Catherine Holst.
Mrs. Sweat is survived by her two daughters, Carole Ruehlen of Waycross, and Torey Adkins (husband Vick) of Savannah; two sons, Michael Ruehlen (wife Janice) of Blackshear, and Bruce Williams; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a great great grandchild; a brother, Morris Hill (wife Wanda) of Waycross; two sisters, Juanita Anderson (husband Andy) of Waycross, and Opal Vaughn of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ernest Lee Worrell, 71, died Saturday morning (Feb. 8, 2003) at his residence after an extended illness.
He is a native of Edgecomb County, NC, but he has lived in Waycross since 1976. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as an electrician by CSX Railroad. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and Southside Baptist Church.
He is the son of the late Joe C. Worrell and Betty Griffin Worrell. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, John and Thurston Worrell; and a sister, Nell Lynn.
Mr. Worrell is survived by his wife, Delores Jones Worrell of Waycross; two daughters, Phyllis Arnold (husband Eric) of Richmond, KY, and Tammy Varnadore (husband Bill) of Waycross; two grandchildren, April Arnold and Laura Ann Varnadore; two adopted grandchildren, Morgan and Patrick Todd of Waycross; a brother, Henry Worrell of Rocky Mount, NC; two sisters, Emma Lancaster and Mae Braswell both of Rocky Mount, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday (Feb. 10, 2003) at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Horace ''Lightning'' Capps

Mr. Horace ''Lightning'' Capps, 76, died Wednesday night (Feb. 5, 2003) at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL after a short illness.
He was a native of Clinch County, but he has resided in Waycross most of his life. He served in the United States Army from 1946 - 1953. He was owner/operator of Capps Cycle and Mower Co. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 4382, member of the Woodmen of the World, and past commander of the American Legion 119. He was also a member of Deenwood Baptist Church.
He is the son of the late Arnold Augustus Capps and Ellen Missouri Strickland Capps. He was the husband of the late Addie Louise Hall Capps. He is also preceded in death by two brothers, Morris and Johnny Capps.
Mr. Capps is survived by a son, Carlos W. Lewis of Richmond, VA; three daughters, Debby Altman (husband Larry) of Blackshear, Diane Ternest (husband Buddy) of Brunswick, and Becky Abrams (husband Mark) of Powder Springs; seven grandchildren, Melissa Harden, Cindy Cowman, Brian Ternest, Shelly Cox, Stephanie Swain, Nikkie Lewis Bagley, and Chandler Abrams; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Rosella Day of Waycross, and Louise Melton of Jacksonville, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 4 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ida Lee Jordan Layton

Mrs. Ida Lee Jordan Layton, 79, died Thursday (February 06, 2003) morning at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
She was a native of Toombs County but had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was a homemaker and a member of Deenwood Baptist Church.
She is the daughter of the late Noel Ezekiel Dukes and Lona Dukes. She is the wife of the late Rudolph Layton. She was preceded in death by two sons, David Bradley Jordan and Robert Ezekiel Jordan; and step-sons, Lois Jordan and Robert Jordan, Jr.
Mrs. Layton is survived by her three daughters, Lona Lowe (husband Ricky) of Waycross, Tammy Newman (husband Steve) of Alma, and Tanya Michelle Delarosa of Waycross; eight sons, Bobby Lee Jordan of Chiefland, FL, Roy Mack Jordan of Leesburg, FL, Frank Gene Jordan of Eastman, Earl Cecil Jordan of Waycross, Carl Ray Jordan of Colorado Springs, CO, Charles Merrion Jordan of Waycross, Eddie Oral Jordan (wife Lynn) of Blackshear, and Wiley Jordan of Waycross.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday (February 09, 2003) at Ramah Cemetery in Clinch County. The family will receive friends 10 until 12 noon Sunday at Music Funeral Home.

Ronald Perritt
January 10, 1938 - February 11, 2003

Mr. Ronald Perritt, 65, died Tuesday night (February 11, 2003) at South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta following a short illness.
He was a native of Waycross and had resided most of his life in Waycross but had lived in Homerville for the past three years. He was a son of the late Columbus Lamar Perritt and Bertha Bagley Perritt and was preceded in death by two brothers, Spencer Perritt and Ronnie Perritt.
Mr. Perritt has owned several businesses and was a member of the Homerville Freewill Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Army.
The survivors include his wife, Violeta Perritt of Homerville; a daughter, Tiffany Perritt of Homerville; three sons, Allen Perritt of Point Roberts, Washington, Daryl Perritt of St. Augustine, Fla., David Perritt of Abbotsford, Canada; a brother, Charles Perritt of Tallahassee, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday morning from 10 until 11.

Josephine S. Bennett

Mrs. Josephine S. Bennett, 66, died Wednesday (Feb. 5, 2003) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She is a native and lifelong resident of Waycross. She was a homemaker, but she also worked for King Edward Cigar Factory and Pic-N-Save. She was a member of the Potterhouse Church of God.
She is the daughter of the late Robert Smith and Allie Herndon Smith. She is the wife of the late Tony Brown Bennett.
Mrs. Bennett is survived by her three sons, Ricky Bennett of Waycross, Rusty Bennett of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Mike Bennett of Waycross; three daughters, Sheila Bennett of Jacksonville, FL, Cheryl Smith of Macclenny, FL, and Sara Bennett of Waycross; ten grandchildren; a brother, Paul Smith of Waycross; and nine sisters, Bessie, Paulene, Gail, Gloria, Lillian, Katrina, Jackie, Faye and Mildred; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 8, 2003) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Telmore Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas E. Tayman, 69, died Monday night (December 23, 2002) at his residence following short illness.
He was a native of Baltimore, Maryland but had resided in Waycross for the past 32 years. He was a son of the late Melvin Tayman and Josephine Yirka Tayman.
Mr. Tayman was retired from Crosby Pontiac-Cadillac and was a former Ware County Sheriff's Deputy and Bailiff. He served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the John Wesley Sunday School Class, the Chancel Choir, and the Okefenokee Lion's Club.
The survivors include his wife, Nancy Bishop Tayman of Waycross; three daughters, Leslie Tayman Hendricks (husband Roy Lee) of Jacksonville, Fla., Lori Tayman Henderson (husband Richard) of Manor, Kim Tayman Abell (husband Mike) of Pasadena, Maryland; two sons, Rick Tayman and Dennis Tayman (wife Renee`) both of Pasadena, Maryland; four sisters, Iris Minarik (husband Joe), Betty Sexton (wife Tommy), Helen Crocket (husband David) and Mary Solley (husband Gar) all of Baltimore, Maryland; a brother, Lawrence Tayman of Baltimore, Maryland; eight grandchildren, Truman Henderson, Britt Henderson, Jacob Thomas Henderson, Tessa Grace Henderson, Tyler Hendricks, Lindsey Tayman, D. J. Tayman and Ben Abell; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Zenith Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Thursday night from 6 until 8 o'clock.
The Okefenokee Lion's Club, the John Wesley Sunday School Class, the Chancel Choir of Trinity United Methodist Church, the Mountain Group, the T. G. Crosby Family, and the South Georgia Oncology Doctors and PA's are requested to meet at the Church Friday at 1:40 p.m. to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Mary Holton Bowen, 69, died (December 24, 2002) at her residence after an extended illness.
She was a native of Bacon County but had resided in Ware County most of her life. She was the daughter of the late W.W. Ellis and Ada Mixon Ellis.
She was a member of Youmans Chapel Baptist Church and a member of the VFW ladies auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband John Q. Bowen of Waycross, two daughters Connie Pruitt (husband Melvin) of Lakeland, Robin Hurst (fiancee Richard Hambrick) of Waycross, two sons; Daniel Bowen (wife Debra) of Waycross, Rodger Kott (wife Pat) of Eufaula, AL., other children Janet Taylor (husband George) of Dixie Union, Penny Bower (husband Roy) of Blackshear, Susan Bowen of Cairo, three brothers; John Ellis (wife Wilma ) of Goodlettsville, TN., David Ellis, Robert Ellis both of Blackshear, 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren.
A service is planned for 4:00 p.m. Friday in the Music Funeral Home Chapel.Entombment will be in the Greenlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Rev. Miss Bessie Katherine Lewis
June 26, 1917 - December 24, 2002

Rev. Miss Bessie Katherine Lewis, 85, died Tuesday (December 24, 2002) at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton following a brief illness.
She was a native of Berrien County but had resided most of her life in Waycross and Willacoochee. She was a daughter of the late Amos B. Lewis and Daisy Leedom Lewis and was preceded in death by two brothers, James Henry Lewis and David Lewis.
Rev. Miss Lewis was a minister in the Pentecostal Faith and preached extensively in other states. She is affiliated with Mt. Zion Ministries in Enigma. In addition to her ministerial travels in the United States, Miss Lewis has made an evangelistic tour around the world preaching in London, the Holy Land, Kenya and East Africa.
She was a graduate of the University of Georgia and attended Elbethel Bible School in Chicago. She taught at Emanuel College in Franklin Springs, Ga. prior to her entering the ministry.
The survivors include her extended family, Debbie Lewis Mosher and Amy Lewis Pate both of Willacoochee; four nephews; her special friends in the Robert Harris family, Robert and Grace Harris, Virginia and Alton Wolfe all of Douglas, Glenda and Jerry Bennett of Lake Park, and Sharon and Ronnie Crawford of Waycross.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Friday night from 6 until 8 o'clock.
