Joe Neal Needham

Joe Neal Needham, 78 of Loganville died Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006.

Memorial Services were held at 2 pm, Saturday, Jan. 28 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Meredith officiated. Inurnment followed at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Grayson.

A member of Corinth Christian Church, Loganville, a Marine Veteran of the Korean Conflict, a member of the VFW#233 for 50 years, and a retired delivery man with Swift and Company in Atlanta.

Mr. Needham is survived by: wife of 47 years: Kate Yancey Needham; children: Rhonda and Wayne Wilson; Joe and Charlotte Needham, Jr., all of Loganville; step-daughter: Diane Chambless, Woodbury; brothers and sister-in-law: William and Mary Needham, Atlanta; Woodrow Needham, Gene Needham, sisters: Dorothy Van Lear, Doris McCarty, all of Loganville; grandchildren: Chad and Suzanna Needham, Watkinsville; Laura Needham, Loganville; Katie Wilson, Kyle Wilson, both of Loganville; great grandchild: Linley Needham, Watkinsville; several nieces and nephews.

Tim Stewart Funeral Home, Loganville was in charge of the arrangements.

Reverend Horace Burel Martin

The Rev. Horace Burel Martin, 53 of Cleveland, Ga. died Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Northeast Ga. Medical Center following a brief illness.

Rev. martin was born on December 21, 1952 in Walton County. He was preceded in death by his father William Hugh Martin and his grandparents, Borrow Brooks and Lottie Stephens and Mr. and Mrs. William Martin.

Rev. Martin was an ordained minister of the Congregational Holiness Church. He served as Pastor of a number of churches, served nine years as Superintendent of the North Georgia District, and most recently served on the executive board of the Congregational Holiness Church.

Survivors included his wife: Karen Black Martin, Cleveland; mother & step-father: Anne & Preston Welborn, Monroe; brother & sister-in-law: Rev. Lanier & Elaine Martin, Cleveland; sisters & brothers-in-law: Gloria & Mike Farmer, Lilburn, Veronica & Ralph Clifton, Monroe, Deborah & David Gilstrap, Clermont; twenty-one nieces & nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the New Haven Congregational Holiness Church in Gainesville. The Rev. Wayne Hicks and Dr. Samuel Chand officiated. Interment followed at the Union Grove Congregational Church cemetery with the Rev. Kenneth Law and the Rev. Steven Phillips officiating. All Ministers served as Honorary Pallbearers.

Barrett Funeral Home of Cleveland was in charge of the arrangements.

Ronald Mathis Conner

Ronald Mathis Conner, 66, of Monroe, died on Jan. 17. 2006. He was born in Monroe on Sept. 12, 1939 to the late Jim J. Conner Jr. and Odell Mathis Conner. He was a veteran of U.S. Navy, serving 4 years as an Electronics Specialist. He retired after 30 years with I.B.M. Corporation. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the Southern Bicycle League.

Surviving are: wife: Janet Yvonne Smith Conner, Monroe; sons and daughter-in-law: Lee and Michelle Conner, Tyrone, Glenn Conner, Lithia Springs and the late Steven Conner; Sister and brother-in-law: Marie and Terrell Gooding, Duluth; brothers and sisters-in-law: Larry and Jane Conner, Griffin, Norman and Ann Conner, Monroe, and the late Roger Conner; and 12 grandchildren.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3pm at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Dyer officiating. Jeff L. Myers

Jeff L. Myers, 90 of Loganville, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006.

Funeral Services were held 3:30 PM Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 in the chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Lanny Myers officiated. Burial followed at Sharon Baptist Church Cemetery, Loganville.

Mr. Myers was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and worked inCotton Mills in Porterdale and Milstead. He is survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Mary B. Sargent

Mary B. Sargent, 87 of Hull, died on Jan. 14, 2006. She was born in Madison County on Nov. 21, 1918 to the late George Thomas Bullock and the late Mallier Smith Bullock. She was preceded in death by her husband: the late Charlie Bethel Sargent, her step-daughter, the late Mickey Wiggly, her step-sons the late George Thomas Sargent, the late Larry Sargent, and the late James Sargent.

Surviving are: step-daughters: Frances Clark, Tampa, Fla and Inez Howard, Columbus, Ga.; step-son: Charles Sargent, Colorado Springs; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and great nephews, several great great nieces and great great nephews; several great great great nieces and great great great nephews.

Funeral services were held on Monday Jan. 16 at 3:30 p.m. at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Willis officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Vernon Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Lewis Burton, Olion Amistead, Fred Clontz, Robert Tweedell, Adam Hawkins, and James Allen.

Mickey Meier

Mickey Meier, 76, of Monroe died on Jan. 9, 2006. She was born on June 23, 1929 in Elizabeth, Ky to the late Cecil A. Ball and the late Verna Williamson Ball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Richard J. Meier Jr.

Surviving are sons: Richard J. Meier III, Macon, Cecil A. Meier, Washing ton D.C., and James David Meier, Monroe; six grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12 at Gwinnett Memorial Park.

Inez Taylor

Inez Hollingsworth Taylor, 88, Flintstone, Georgia, passed away January 17, 2006 in Macon, Georgia. She leaves behind memories of an exciting life with many interests.

Born April 24, 1917, at Eagle Cliff (now Flintstone), Georgia, she was the second of six children of Rike Anderson Hollingsworth and Alma Blanche Howard Hollingsworth. Always an excellent student, she was the valedictorian of her Chattanooga Valley high school class. She studied and worked as a cosmetologist before marrying and working at Oak Ridge, Tennessee on the Manhattan Project during World War II.

After the war, she followed her husband, John L. Taylor of Ringgold, to Monroe, Georgia, where she became involved in numerous church, social, and civic activities. While raising her children, she pursued a degree in business at the University of Georgia, and enjoyed hobbies of gardening, flower arranging and playing bridge. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Republican National Party.

She left Monroe in 1964 to accompany her husband on twenty-five years of overseas assignments in Ecuador, Brazil, Peru, India and the Philippines. While in South America, she became interested in Pre-Colombian pottery, participating in many archaeological digs. In India, she developed her artistic skills in oil painting. While residing in the Philippines, she spent five years as a serious student of Chinese brush painting. This medium became her forte.

Following retirement at her childhood home in the shadow of Lookout Mountain, she and her husband dedicated their time to gardening. Together they grew and shared beautiful flowers and vegetables. They enjoyed their membership at Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church, treasuring friends in their Sunday school classes. After the 1999 death of her husband of 61 years, she moved to Macon, Georgia, in 2003, to live with her daughter Allison.

She is survived by four children, Dr. John H. Taylor (wife, Harriet), Bonita, Calif., Colonel (U.S. Army-Retired) Stephen C. Taylor (wife, Becky), Huntsville, Ala., Bronwyn Taylor (Mrs. Kenneth) Fry, Chestertown, Maryland, and Allison Taylor (Mrs. Paul) Turk, Macon, Ga. She was blessed with nine grandchildren, Craig Taylor, Atlanta, Scott Taylor, Atlanta, Hannah Fry, Providence, Rhode Island; Sara Taylor, Huntsville, Ala., Emily Taylor, Bonita, Calif., Katherine Turk, Macon, Dylan Fry, Chestertown, Maryland, Stephen Turk, Macon, and Clayton Turk, Macon. She is also survived by her sister and life-long best friend, Ora Hollingsworth, of Flintstone.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be beside her husband at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Memorials may be sent to Chattanooga Valley Baptist Church, 90 Nick-a-jack Lane, Flintstone, Ga. 30725, or to Portsbridge Hospice, 115 Arkwright Landing, Macon, Ga. 31210.

Heritage Funeral Home, Oglethorpe, was in charge of the arrangements.

Mark Stovall

Mark Stovall, 27, of Monroe died on Jan. 8, 2006. He was born in Walton County on Oct. 15, 1978 to William Randy Stovall and Connie Sue McCroskey Stovall.

He was preceded in death by his step-mother: the late Becky Stovall; grandparents: the late William Royce Stovall and the late Diane McCroskey.

Surviving are father: Randy Stovall, Bethlehem; mother: Connie Stovall, Monroe; brothers: Keith Stovall, Monroe and Zion Stovall, Bethlehem; grandparents: Bobby and Nancy Brown, Covington, Jean Stovall, Monroe; Ben McCroskey, Loganville; great grandparents: Thomas and Alma Pearman, Pulaski, Va; several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services were held at 2p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at the Monroe Congregational Holiness Church with the Rev. Isaac Prather and the Rev. Billy Autry officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were: William Adcock, Matt Adcock, Steve Broach, Matt Wooddell, Kendall Holmes, and Jonathan Phelps.

Ernest Reid Brinkley

Ernest Reid Brinkley, 87 of Loganville died Thursday, January 12, 2006.

A member of St. Michaelís & All Angels Episcopal Church, Stone Mountain, Mr. Brinkley was also a member of the Lion's Club and Chairman of the Loganville Housing Authority.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maida Sue Brinkley in 1990 and is survived by children: Bill Brinkley, Boston, Mass., Marylyn Dillard, Canton, Ga., and one granddaughter: Cadence Brinkley.

Grave side services were held Monday, Jan. 16 at Hill Haven Memorial Gardens, Monroe. The Rev. Dr. Paul Elliott officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to The American Cancer Society, Gwinnett County Unit, 6500 Sugarloaf Parkway, Suite 260, Duluth, Ga. 30097.

Emory C. Jordan

Emory Claude Jordan, 84, died on Jan. 9, 2006. He was born in Covington, Ga. on Feb. 17, 1921 to the late Joseph Emory Jordan and the late Mattie Lee Fitzpatrick Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, the late Charles Jordan and the late Ned Jordan.

Surviving are: wife: Joyce Jordan, Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law: Tina and Mark Brown, Summerville, SC and Wendy and Mike Higginbotham, Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law: Tommy and Ann Jordan, Milledgeville; Harold and Jenny Johnson, Monroe; Joel and Christy Johnson, Monroe; Tyron and Deborah Johnson, Monroe; and Mark and Maura Johnson, St. Petersburg, FL; sisters and brother-in-law: Lurline Jordan, Monroe, Polly and Milton Harrison, Monroe; brother and sisters-in-law: Tom and Blanche Jordan, Douglasville and Toni Jordan, Monroe; several grandchildren; several great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11 in the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Durden officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Joe Page, Ray Higginbotham, Larry Jordan, Eric Jordan, Wes Johnson and Jason Brown.

Shirley McDaniel

Shirley McDaniel, 70 of Winder, died on Jan. 9, 2006. She was born in Walton County on April 2, 1935 to the late L.C. Allen and Ruth Aaron Allen. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Roy William McDaniel and her daughter the late Sherry Hoyt.

Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law: Melissa and David Shelnutt, Lexington; son: Randall McDaniel, Winder; brother: James R. Allen, Bethlehem; grandchildren: Rip Hoyt, Danielsville and Dawson Shelnutt, Lexington.

Funeral services were held on Monday Jan. 9 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Charlie Peters officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Tim Brittian. Jeff Watley, Mike Barnett, Henry Kellerson, Donnie Allen, and James R. Sikes.

Skylor Jason Whisenhunt

Little Skylor Jason Whisenhunt, died Jan. 5, 2006 at the age of 2 months.

Funeral services for Little Skylor were held at 2 p.m. Thursday Jan. 12 at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, with Pastor Tom Hamm officiating, and interment following at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Caldwell & Cowan was in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Wood

Linda Wood, 60 of Monroe died January 4, 2006.

She was born in Raleigh County, W.Va. October 31, 1945 to the late Thomas Elmer Fortner and the late Ruth Kathleen Walker Fortner Hatcher.

Surviving are husband: David Wood of Monroe; daughters: Carla Waddell of Monroe and Alicia Peppers of Winder; son: Tim Waddell of Dawsonville; sister: Karen Brewster of Concord, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law: Rick and Linda Fortner of Beckley, W.Va.; six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 7 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse World Outreach Center with The Rev. Raymond Hardy officiating. Pallbearers were: Carlton Swords, David Butler, Larry Lewis, Joe Lowe, Chris Worrell, and Zack Nesbitt.
