MRS. MARY CULPEPPER BOHANNON

Mrs. Mary Culpepper Bohannon, 85, of Savannah died Jan. 31, 1997 at her home.

Born April 9, 1911 in Greenville, Mrs. Bohannon was the daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson Culpepper and Tommie (Sams) Culpepper and the widow of Joe T. Bohannon Jr. She was a retired educator and a member of Central Baptist Church in Newnan.

Mrs. Bohannon attended Georgia Teacher's College and taught first grade in Newnan and Grantville schools.

Graveside services were held Feb. 2 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Dr. Joel Richardson officiating.

Survivors include her sons, Dr. Donald S. Bohannon of Savannah, Thomas J. Bohannon of Atlanta; sister, Helen Lindsey of Lake City, S.C.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Central Baptist Church or the Ronald McDonald House of Savannah.

MR. LUTHER DORSEY "TONEY" BRANDENBURG

Mr. Luther Dorsey "Toney" Brandenburg, 57, of Gay died Jan. 30, 1997 in Newnan.

Born Feb. 25, 1939 in Georgia, Mr. Brandenburg was the son of the late Clark Strickland Brandenburg. He was a retired equipment operator for the Fulton County Public Works Department and a member of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating. Interment followed at the Luthersville Cemetery with Brent Mae, Brian Mae, Walton Grey, Albert Hood, Robert Harris and Curtis Davis serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (May) Brandenburg of Gay; mother, Laura Mae (Waller) Herman of Union City; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Emmett Farr of Gay; daughter, Elaine Friel of Stockbridge; granddaughter Hannah Friel of Stockbridge; and sisters, Clara Morgan of Morrow and Frances Fincher and Ann Clancy, both of Fayetteville.

MR. HAROLD WILLARD DAILEY

Mr. Harold Willard Dailey, 60, of Franklin died Jan. 27, 1997.

Mr. Dailey was a register professional geologist, specializing in field exploration. He was a graduate of West Georgia College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in geology, and Southern Methodist University, where he completed graduate studies in geology.

Mr. Dailey was a member of the Artist-Blacksmiths' Association of North American; the Georgia Geological Society; the Geological Society of America; the Central Savannah River Area Geological Society; the Georgia and national groundwater associations; the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration; and the International Society of Explosives Engineers.

Mr. Dailey was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after serving four years as an aircrew member of the Airborne Early Warning Squadron based in Newfoundland.

A memorial service was held Jan. 29 in Franklin.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Julian Dailey of Franklin; daughters, Katie Dailey of Decatur, Tracie Dailey of Mesa, Ariz.; sisters, Martha Sewell, Joanne Lazenby, both of Newnan; and brother, Larry Dailey of Newnan.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, 386 Park Ave. South, 17th Floor, N.Y., N.Y., 10016-8804.

MRS. VERA DEMPSEY

Mrs. Vera Dempsey, 84, of East Broad Street in Newnan died Jan. 31, 1997 at Beaulieu Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 4, 1912 in Georgia, Mrs. Dempsey was the daughter of the late Charles and Bernice (Wager) Lattimer and the widow of Larkin Ward Dempsey. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Fleming officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Survivors include her step-daughter, Catherine Taylor of Decatur; granddaughter, Barbara Scott of Decatur; great-grandson, Jeff McMillian; sister, Lena L. Murphy of Newnan; niece, Bernice Humphreys of Newnan; and great-nephew, Charles Parks.

MR. ALFRED ESKEW

Mr. Alfred Eskew, 87, of Smith Road in Sargent died Jan. 30, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Feb. 8, 1909 in Carroll County, Mr. Eskew was the son of the late John Burgess Eskew and Effie Mapp Eskew. He was a retired textile worker and a member of Congregational Holiness Church of Carrollton.

Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Hart officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy Fleming. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Hubert Smith, Charles Smith, Malcolm Smith, Junior Smith, Jimmy Smith and Danny Eskew serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his son, Bobby Eskew of Arnco; grandchildren, Terri Cooper, Kenneth Eskew, Wesley Eskew, all of Newnan; and great-grandchildren, Megan Cooper, Trevor Cooper, Morgan Eskew and Whitney Eskew, all of Newnan.

MRS. ELIZABETH R. FLAVIN

Mrs. Elizabeth R. Flavin, 38, of Tallahassee, Fla. and a former resident of Meriwether County died Jan. 30, 1997 at Randolph County Hospital in Roanoke, Ala.

Born Nov. 10, 1958 in Terrell County, Mrs. Flavin was a U.S. Air Force veteran. A certified public accountant, she was the owner and operator of Mardina Enterprises in Tallahassee.

Funeral services will be held Feb. 7 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Padgett Nelson officiating.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Flavin of Tallahassee; daughter, Adina Flavin of Tallahassee; parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Roland of Greenville and a sister, Adina Roland of Tallahassee.

Memorial contributions cane be made to the March of Dimes or to INRG Breast Cancer Research.

MRS. DOROTHY S. HUBBARD

Mrs. Dorothy S. Hubbard, 87, of Berry Avenue in Newnan died Jan. 30, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Oct. 6, 1909 in Carroll County, Mrs. Hubbard was a homemaker and a member of Lovejoy United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles Crenshaw. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Paul Rinaldi, the Rev. John Yoke, Wilbur Eason, Donald McCarty, Bobby Dearman and Bobby Thomas serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Mr. and Mrs. C.L. (Catheryne) Vaughn of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie A. (JoAnne) Barnes of Newnan; brother, William Shadinger of Conyers; sisters, Mrs. O.C. Williams, Grace Shadinger, Mrs. Roy Avery, all of Newnan; grandchildren, Rodney Lee Vaughn Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Chris (Maria) Cook, all of Newnan; great-grandchild, Rodney Lee Vaughn Jr., of Newnan.

MRS. PAULINE CHLOE JONES

Mrs. Pauline Chloe Jones, 88, of Carrollton, formerly of Newnan, died Jan. 24, 1997 at Pineknoll Nursing Home in Carrollton.

Born Sept. 2, 1908 in Heard County, Mrs. Jones was a retired textile worker and a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held Jan. 26 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Bruce Brewer officiating.

Survivors include his niece, Betty Jean Johnston of Newnan; and nephews, W.J. Strickland of Smyrna, Charles Jones of Hollywood, Fla., and Bill Jones of Columbus.

MR. LARRY JAMES LAVELLE

Mr. Larry James Lavelle, 36, of Amey Street in Senoia passed away Feb. 2, 1997 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MRS. ERIS KING MASON

Mrs. Eris King Mason, 91, of Hogansville died Jan. 31, 1997 at Royal Elaine Nursing Home in LaGrange.

Born Oct. 9, 1905 in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Mason was the daughter of the late D.O. and Sophronia Knight King and the widow of E.H. Mason. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Few and the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Walter Graben, Walter Graben Jr., Bruce Graben, Tony Graben, Terry Mason and Lonnie Clayton serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include a daughter, Sarah M. Beall of Hogansville; son, Hancel L. Mason of Hogansville; brother, Paul O. King of Houston, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

MR. CHARLIE MATTHEWS

Mr. Charlie Matthews, 78, of Forrest Road in Grantville passed away Jan. 30, 1997 at his home.

Born May 25, 1918 in Meriwether County, Mr. Matthews was the son of the late Willie and Amanda Matthews. He was preceded in death by two children, three brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Matthews was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Grantville and served on the church's Steward Board. He was a veteran of World War II.

Funeral services were held Feb. 4 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Peris Lester and the Rev. Clinton L. Melson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Billy Glanton and the Rev. J.F. Booker.

Interment followed at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with full Masonic honors. Serving as pallbearers were Willie Matthews, Adrian Hill, Kervin Griffin, Stevie Matthews, Jimmy Matthews, Charles Benning, James Colton, Derrick Griffin and William R. Matthews. Members of the Zion Hill Masonic Lodge #26 and the St. Paul A.M.E. Church Steward Board served as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Cora; sons and daughters-in-law, Charlie William (Lydia) Matthews, James (Mattie) Matthews, John (Francis) Matthews, Fred (Arlena) Matthews; daughters, Rose (Johnny), Emma Jean (Charles); sister, Emma L. Fauntleroy; sisters and brothers-in-law, the Rev. and Mrs. J.F. (Alice) Booker, Bessie Glanton, Willie Simmons; 26 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
