MR. ALFRED WARREN EASON

Mr. Alfred Warren Eason, 72, of Newnan passed away recently.

A former business education teacher for the Coweta County School System from 1967 until 1986, Eason also worked as an administrator at Kentucky State College.

A graduate of Savannah Street High School in Newnan, Eason began his career in education after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1946.

Eason earned a bachelor's degree from Clark College, where he sang with the school's Philharmonic Chorus and Male Octet. He later earned a master's degree in business education from Indiana University and a special certificate in business management from the University of Omaha.

Eason completed further study at Atlanta University before earning an education specialist degree at Georgia State University, where he also completed work on a doctoral degree.

Eason received honors from Georgia State University, Morris Brown College, the Westmanor Recreation Center, Clark College, Kappa Delta Pi and the Georgia Chapter of Future Business Leaders of America.

In 1977, he was recognized as a master teacher in economics education by the Center for Business and Economic Education at Georgia State University.

A veteran of World War II, Eason was involved with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Butler Street YMCA, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity, the Atlanta Club of Frontiers International and the Anthropos, a national affiliate of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa.

Eason worked as a member of the 1989 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission.

Memorial services were held dec. 23, 1996 at Allen Temple A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include his wife, Essie Eason; sister Alice Reese; nieces, Willisteen Graddie, Juanita Philpot, Lynette Grant, Patricia Beasley, Sonya Wilkins and Jacqueline Long; nephews Carlton Long, Clinton Reese, John Watkins Jr., Alfred Watkins; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

MRS. BESSIE GASTON

Mrs. Bessie Gaston of Basin Street in Griffin passed away Jan. 19, 1997 at Spalding Regional Hospital in Griffin. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MR. DELMA AUDREN "BUDGIE" HANSON

Mr. Delma Audren "Budgie" Hanson, 68, of Brimer Road in Newnan died Jan. 17, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Aug. 25, 1928 in Georgia, Mr. Hanson was the son of the late Roy D. Hanson. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Christian Hanson.

Mr. Hanson was a U.S. Navy veteran and a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier. He was a member of Welcome Road Baptist Church and a former member of East Newnan Baptist Church. Mr. Hanson was a former scout master of Trooper 43.

Funeral services were held Jan. 19 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. David Dixon officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Howard. Interment followed at St. Paul Methodist Church Cemetery in Whitesburg.

Serving as pallbearers were Patrick Brooks, Eric Hanson, Jonathan Brooks, Randy Hopson, Lee Combs, Joel Davis, Kevin Davis, Chris Davis, Jarred Combs and Justus Combs.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo (Phillips) Hanson of Newnan; mother, Mary (Morrow) Hanson of Newnan; daughters, Pamela (Mike) Brooks, Judy (Lee) Combs, both of Newnan; son, Roy (Joan) Hanson of Macon; grandchildren, Hope Combs, Carrie Brooks, Patrick Brooks, Eric Hanson, Jonathan Brooks, Randy Hopson, Lee Combs, Jarred Combs, Justus Combs and Maribeth Hanson.

MRS. ZENA CHANDLER JOHNSON

Mrs. Zena Chandler Johnson, 83, of Terretene Road in Sharpsburg died Jan. 19, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born April 30, 1913 in Georgia, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary (Freeman) Chandler and the widow of William Johnson. She was a textile spinner and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held Jan. 20 at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating, assisted by the Rev. Terry Calhoun.

Survivors include her nieces, Ann Harris of Sharpsburg, Patsy Chappel of Moreland, Louise Watson of Atlanta; nephew, Franklin Gray of Atlanta; great niece, Gail Foster and great nephews, Tom Watson, Eddie Harris and Ronnie Gray.

MR. HARVEY CLINTON KEE

Mr. Harvey Clinton Kee, 75, of Millard Farmer Road in Newnan died Jan. 13, 1997 at his home.

Born Aug. 4, 1921 in Newnan, Mr. Kee was the son of the late Abner and Mattie (Payton) Kee. He was a retired driver for Ryder Trucking and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Mr. Kee was preceded in death by brothers, Thomas Kee and Billy Kee; sisters, Betty Kee and Eula Mae Kee; and a grandson, Harley Kee.

Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Grady Jones officiating, assisted by minister Lindsey Herndon. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan with Richard Kee, Wayne Kee, Darren Kee, Clint Murphy, David Murphy, Bobby Cardwell, Roy Lee Scott and Matt Phillips serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Astalee (Jones) Kee; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Carolyn) Kee of LaGrange, Mr. and Mrs. Danny (Mattie) Kee, Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Nancy) Kee, all of Newnan; daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John (Karey) Murphy of Luthersville; brothers, Clifford Kee of Covington, Albert Kee of Hogansville; sisters, Florence Haynes, Fannie Pearl Gaddy, both of Newnan; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MRS. OPHELIA ROBINSON KEITH

Mrs. Ophelia Robinson Keith, 93, of Susie Place in Newnan passed away Jan. 15, 1997 at Twelve Oaks Nursing Home in Riverdale.

Born May 15, 1903 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Keith was the daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Dan and Dinah Robinson and the widow of Jimmy T. Keith. She was preceded in death by four children.

She was a former member of Rocky Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Luthersville and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newnan, where she served on the Mother Board.

Funeral services were held Jan. 20 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Johnson and the Rev. H.H. Dyer officiating, assisted by the Rev. C.L. Melson, the Rev. J.T. Coleman and the Rev. Larry Evans. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Annie Ruth Addie, Doris K. Manuel, Gloria Keith, LaRose Phillips, Jeanette Keith, all of Newnan, Judy Chunn of Atlanta; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. (Arena) Keith of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. LaMar (Laura) Keith of Detroit, Mich., Bishop and Mrs. James R. (Mildred) Keith, Mr. and Mrs. Rufus (Sarah) Keith, all of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Barbara) Weaver of Aquasco, Md.; daughter-in-law, Martha N. Keith of Newnan; 52 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. NEELEY I. McCOY

Mrs. Neeley I. McCoy, 61, of the Cooksville community in Heard County died Jan. 16, 1997 at her home.

Born April 10, 1935 in Fulton County, Mrs. McCoy was the daughter of the late John and Lonie Pierce Anthony.

Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Hall officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Survivors include her sons, Robert McCoy of Cooksville, Jerry McCoy of Carrollton, Mike McCoy of Grantville, Rickey McCoy of Cooksville, Timothy McCoy of Brunswick; brother, Cecil Anthony of Palmetto; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MRS. ROSA MAE THRASH TAYLOR

Mrs. Rosa Mae Thrash Taylor of East Point passed away Jan. 18, 1997 in East Point.

Mrs. Thrash was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Essie K.) Thrash of Newnan. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.

MRS. BEVERLY JUNE McBRIDE BLACKWELL

Mrs. Beverly June McBride Blackwell, 68, of Sharpsburg died Jan. 13, 1997 following a long illness.

Born Feb. 2, 1928 in Portville, N.Y., Mrs. Blackwell was sons of Leslie Arthur William McBride and Edith Aileen Davidson McBride. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in New York and attended Alfred University and Niagara University.

Mrs. Blackwell was an elementary school teacher in New York and was a volunteer for Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Neb.

Survivors include her husband, Alexander Lindsie Blackwell; son David Roy Blackwell of Raleigh, N.C.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer Association.

MRS. ALMA G. BRYANT

Mrs. Alma G. Bryant, 93, of Grantville died Jan. 14, 1997 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center in Newnan.

Born March 21, 1903 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Bryant was the daughter of the late John and Georgia Robertson Gill. She lived in Grantville most of her life, where she retired from Grantville Mills. She was a member of the Methodist faith.

Funeral services were held Jan. 16 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellis Freeman and the Rev. Kara Stalcup officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery with Bo Bryant, Jeff Lee, Perry Lee, Charles Lee Jr., Clay Bryant and Thomas Lee serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband Chester (Jim ) Bryant of Grantville; daughter, Vivian Lee of LaGrange; sons, Chet Bryant of Atlanta, James Bryant of Waco, Texas; nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

MR. CHARLIE CLIFF FAVER

Mr. Charlie Cliff Faver, 89, of Franklin Road in Newnan died Jan. 16, 1997 in Newnan.

Born Feb. 3, 1907 in Georgia, Mr. Faver was the son of the late Sanders Walker Faver and Lonnie (Jackson) Faver and the husband of the late Everlene (Stevens) Faver. He was a retired maintenance worker.

Funeral services were held Jan. 18 (today) at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Dennis. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Paul Hardegree, Michael Marsh, Eddy Power, Charles Power, David Power and Daniel Power serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Faver Hardegree, Polly Faver Power, both of Newnan; sisters, Carrie Faver Farmer of Austell, Doris Faver Hanson of Carrollton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
