MRS. SARAH B. "SALLY" KING

Mrs. Sarah B. "Sally" King, 87, died March 12, 1997.

A retired Newnan school teacher, Mr. King was a native of Newnan and a life-long member of Newnan Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Douglas King.

Graveside services will be held March 15 (today) at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Vernon Jobson Jr. of Atlanta; granddaughters, Melinda Munns of Colorado Springs, Col., Ellen Jobson of Atlanta; and two great-grandchildren, Jonathan Munns and Hannah Munns of Colorado Springs.

MRS. EVELYN LUNDY

Mrs. Evelyn Lundy, 71, of Hawkins Street in Grantville passed away March 11, 1997 at her home.

Born May 10, 1925 in Coweta County, Mrs. Lundy was the daughter of the late Glover and Annie B. Hawkins and the widow of Charlie M. Lundy. She was a member of Jehovah Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held March 13 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Edmond Leigh officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ray Robinson. Interment followed at Grantville Cemetery with friends serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her son, Barham G. Lundy; sister, Frances Grimes; brother, Van Hawkins; brother-in-law, Roosevelt Lundy; sister-in-law, Addie Lundy; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. JODIE REYNOLDS PAYTON

Mrs. Jodie Reynolds Payton, 82, of Newnan died March 2, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Dec. 1, 1914 in Tallassee, Ala., Mrs. Payton was the daughter of the late Rubin J. and Martha (Sisson) Mulkey and the widow of C.B. "Jack" Payton. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and a retired sales clerk from Kessler.

Funeral services were held March 4 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Alderman officiating, assisted by Clay Henry. Interment followed at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery with Allen Payton, Aaron Payton, Farron Payton, Damon Payton, Jimmy Morris, Scott Morris, Shane Cox and Randy Cox serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Payton Morris, Karen Payton Cox, both of Newnan; son, Jack "Buster" Payton of Newnan; sisters-in-law, Nell Payton, Connie Payton, both of Newnan; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

MRS. NELL CARNES PAYTON

Mrs. Nell Carnes Payton, 88, of Newnan died March 13, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born April 28, 1908 in Coweta County, Mrs. Payton was the daughter of the late John Bunyan Carnes of Lizzie Alma (Jackson) Carnes and the widow of Joe Brown Payton. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held March 15 (today) at 11 a.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Alderman officiating, assisted by the Rev. Don Helms. Interment will follow at Elim Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen Willingham of Newnan; sons, Raymond Payton, David Payton, both of Newnan; sisters, Virginia Carnes, Esther Driver, both of Newnan; brother, Jesse Carnes of Norfolk, Va.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

MR. WILLIAM KIRBY McDOWELL

Mr. William Kirby McDowell, 83, of Newnan died March 13, 1997 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Born Sept. 2, 1913 in Alabama, Mr. McDowell was the son of the late Thomas W. and Margaret (Crenshaw) McDowell. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church and a spinning supervisor.

Funeral services will be held March 15 (today) at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Survivors include his wife Bertha A. (Aldridge) McDowell of Newnan; daughter, Joan McDowell of Newnan; sisters, Annie Harris of West Point, Louise Shaw of Valley, Ala.; nieces and nephews.

MRS. EUNICE INEZ RAINWATER

Mrs. Eunice Inez Rainwater, 87, of Senoia died March 11, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Dec. 26, 1909 in Georgia, Mrs. Rainwater was the daughter of the late William Asa Willingham and Ada (Cook) Willingham and the widow of Johnnie J. Rainwater. She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Mrs. Rainwater was preceded in death by her son, James Rainwater and a granddaughter, Joy Rainwater McKoy.

Funeral services were held March 13 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Fleming, the Rev. Bill Dean and the Rev. Bobby Norton officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Johnny Rainwater, Jimmy Rainwater, Tommy Tenney, Terry Tenney, Kenny Bell and Jamie Walker serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Mr. and Mrs. L.T. (Ruth) Tenney of Senoia, Mr. and Mrs. Julian (Sarah) Bell of Senoia, Hazel Rainwater of Senoia; son, Mr. and Mrs. Fred (Jeanine) Rainwater of Luthersville; sisters, Irene Harris, Elizabeth Lanford, Helen Scales, Elsie Pedigro, all of Carrollton; brothers, the Rev. Gordon Willingham of Carrollton, Clifton Willingham of Newnan, the Rev. Grady Willingham of Alabama; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

MR. J.E. BOSWELL

Mr. J.E. Boswell, 82, of Franklin died March 7, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born Nov. 17, 1914 in Coweta County, Mr. Boswell was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Phillips Boswell.

A member of Hogansville Baptist Church, Mr. Boswell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired farmer and a retired worker from Grantville Mills.

Funeral services were held March 9 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the minister Mansell Carpenter, minister Russell Wearden and minister Ronald Nation officiating.

Interment followed at Southview Cemetery in Moreland with Rick Coker, Brian Wood, Bobby Lowry, John Lowry, Rick Smith, Bobby Denney, Wayne Jones and Billy Tucker serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Boswell of Franklin; daughters, Mary Alice Wood of Franklin, Allen Lowry of Chattanooga, Tenn.; sons, Joseph E. Boswell Jr. of Franklin, Michael Allen Boswell of Corinth; sister, Myrtle Jones of Grantville; brother, Henry Boswell of Buchanan; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

MRS. EDITH C. BUCHANAN

Mrs. Edith C. Buchanan, 83, of Hogansville died March 9 at Hospice LaGrange.

Born Aug. 10, 1913 in Randolph County, Ala., Mrs. Buchanan was the daughter of the late John Thomas Chatman and Ella Yates Chatman. She was a member of Welcome All Baptist Church and was a retired nursing assistant.

Funeral services were held March 11 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Stitcher officiating. Interment followed at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Heard County with Tony Chatman, Jerry Buchanan, Joey Dollar, William David Stewart Jr., Jim Spradlin and Michael Chatman serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Joyce Turner of Wichita, Kan., Bernice Chatman of Blythewood, S.C., Nelda Laverne Stewart, Sharon Driver, both of LaGrange, Janie Dollar of Hogansville; sons, Randall Buchanan of Franklin, Billy Joe Buchanan of LaGrange; sisters, Winnie Brand of Monroe, Mich., Ann Conant of Decatur, Eunice Sanders of West Point, Edna Gladney of Jamestown, N.C., Doris Storme of Trevorton, Penn., Jeanette Henderson of Hogansville; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

MR. T. GORDON CARTER

Mr. T. Gordon Carter, 87, of Sharpsburg died March 7, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born May 8, 1909 in Carroll County, Mr. Carter was the son of the late Alonzo and Linie (Morrow) Carter. He was a member of Turin Baptist Church and a retired supervisor from Southern Mills.

Funeral services were held March 9 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. John McDuffie officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan with Joe Gazaway, Paul Poole, Carlos Camp, Joe Mitchell, Gene Crunklin and Silas White serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Sophie (Newman) Carter; daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Susan) Williams of Macon; grandchildren, Van Williams of Los Angeles, Cheryl Williams of Atlanta; sisters, Louise Phillips of Whitesburg, Catherine Benton of Fairburn; and brothers, Roy Carter of Vero Beach, Fla., Grant Carter of Kingston, Tenn., and Charles Carter of Hemet, Calif.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or Turin Baptist Church.

MRS. SANDRA W. DAVIS

Mrs. Sandra White Davis, 55, of Stone Mountain and a native of Hogansville died March 7, 1997 at DeKalb Medical Center in Decatur.

Born Jan. 28, 1942 in Hogansville, Mrs. Davis was the daughter of the late Joe and Pauline Denney White. She was a graduate of Tift College and was a French and Latin teacher at North Gwinnett High School. She was a member of Mount Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain.

Funeral services were held March 10 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Deakins officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Ronnie Chapman, Mike Chapman, Barry Chapman, Joey Chapman, Eric Snyder, Scott Snyder, Mark White, Randy White and Ken White serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, William H. Davis Jr. of Stone Mountain; daughter, Amelia Davis Evans of Salt Lake City, Utah; sons, William H. Davis III of Norman, Okla., Charles E. Davis of West Warwick, R.I.; sister, Amelia Chapman of Hogansville; brothers, Tillman White of Hogansville, Edward White of Fairburn, Charles White of Carrollton, Ken White of Acworth; and a granddaughter, Mary Davis of Norman, Okla.

MS. HELEN ECHOLS

Ms. Helen Echols, 60, of Palmetto passed away March 1, 1997 at South Fulton Medical Center in East Point.

Born Sept. 2, 1936 in Coweta County, Ms. Echols was a member of Rivertown Methodist Church in Palmetto.

Funeral services were held March 5 at St. John Baptist Church in Shenandoah with the Rev. W.J. Clark officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Farmer, the Rev. Roger Stegall and the Rev. Alvin Knox.

Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Gerrard Echols, Marcellous Ware, Neil Carter, James W. Knox and Eugene Ware serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her sisters, Annie R. Echols of Palmetto, Julia E. Ware, Oreather Kight, Lucille Gaddy, Leola Rosser of Newnan; aunt, Mildred Ross of Newnan; nephew, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph (Ruby) Echols of Palmetto; nephews: great-nieces and great-nephews.
