MRS. LUCILE DOMINECK SIMS

Mrs. Lucile Domineck Sims of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Newnan passed away Aug. 16, 1997 at Sumser Retirement Village in Canton, Ohio.

Born in Coweta County, Mrs. Sims was the daughter of the late Willie Coleman Domineck and Amanda Brooks Domineck and the widow of Willie C. Sims.

She was a member of Old Mount Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she served as church secretary and treasurer, vice president of the Women Convention, president of the Christian Saving Club, and a member of the Old Ship.

Mrs. Sims was retired from Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital after 12 years of service. She also worked for Martha Smith.

Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Character officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.T. Coleman, the Rev. J.C. Carter, the Rev. W.J. Johnson and evangelist Gloristein Arnold.

Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with the Old Mount Bethlehem Baptist Church Board of Deacons serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Willie C. (Lizzie Mae) Domineck of East Point, Robert L. Domineck of Canton, Ohio; uncle, Andy Domineck of Palmetto; aunt, Rosa Domineck of Atlanta; Cordia Mynatt of Acoa, Tenn.; nieces and nephews.

MR. KENNETH G. STANFORD

Mr. Kenneth G. Stanford, 65, of Turkey Creek Road in Newnan died Aug. 22, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Feb. 12, 1932 in LaGrange, Mr. Stanford was the son of the late R.T. Stanford and Maggie (Priest) Stanford. He was preceded in death by daughters, Kathy Stanford and Faye S. Moore.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, Mr. Stanford was a retired mechanic and owner of Stanford Auto Repair. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan.

Graveside services were held Aug. 24 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Dean. Serving as pallbearers were Hubert Howell, Donald McCarty, Nelson McCoy, Lamar Burks, Bobby Thomas, Buddy McCoy, Gene Alford, Aaron Massey and Ed Norton.

Survivors include his wife, Betty (Jones) Stanford of Newnan; daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Randy (Kay) Hogan, Mr. and Mrs. Glen (Susan) Cooper, Mrs. and Belinda McEachern, all of Newnan; brother, Jerry Stanford of Newnan; and grandchildren, Amy Hogan, Troy Hogan, Stanford Moore, Beth Moore, Ken Cooper, Chase Cooper and Mitch McEachern, all of Newnan.

DEACONESS MARY B. DOWDELL

Deaconess Mary B. Dowdell, 97, of Newnan passed away Aug. 16, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Dec. 25, 1899 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Dowdell was a member of the Church of Christ Pilgrim Ground of Truth. She was an ordained deacon in the Tennessee General Assembly, superintendent of Sunday School, church treasurer, a missionary in Columbus and president of the women's club in her neighborhood.

Funeral services were held Aug. 21, 1997 at Greater Mt. Zion AME Church with the Rev. Inez Moreland officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Alexander, the Rev. R.W. Sutton elder Ruby Wallace, bishop R. Sampson, the Rev. C. Growth and the Rev. Sally Sadles officiating. Interment followed at Sunset Cemetery with her grandchildren serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Vera Dowdell, Annie Dowdell of California, Leslie Dowdell of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Luvenia Hill of Atlanta; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. James Murphey, Mrs. and Mrs. Nathaniel Huff, Mr. and Mrs. Tyree Calhoun, Mildred Woods of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Huff of Maple, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Moreland, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tolbert of Newnan, Catherine Whitfield, Jerry Dowdell, Lovie Dowdell, Marie Dowdell, Donny Dowdell, Brenda Dowdell, Sandy Dowdell of Columbus; three great-great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. WILLIAM R. FAVORS

Mr. William R. Favors, 47, of Newnan passed away Aug. 18, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born April 23, 1950 in Coweta County, Mr. Favors was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Aug. 21 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. H.J. Long, the Rev, Melvin Brittain and the Rev. James White. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Vernon Strickland, Roger Teagle, Clarence Gilbert, Rufus Warner, Tommy L. Cook, William Huff and Kelsey Favors serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his children, Tabrina Favors, Corey Favors, Tomico Newsome and four others; mother, Ollie Favors; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Lee (Sharon) Arnold, Brenda Dennis, Gina Gates; grandfather, the Rev. W.R. Favors; aunts, Mr. and Mrs. Norman (Bernice) Coleman Jr., Jennie Mae McKee; uncles, Charles Upshaw, Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Flora Ann) Goolsby, Hugh Goolsby; sister-in-law, Diane Favors; nieces and nephews.

MRS. BERTIE CAROLYN STRICKLAND

Mrs. Bertie Carolyn Strickland, 88, of Manchester died Aug. 18, 1997 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs.

Born July 14, 1909 in Bartow County, Mrs. Strickland was the daughter of the late Rubin Vaughn and Mattie Lou Abner and the widow of Clark H. Strickland. She was a member of Followers in Christ and was homemaker.

Funeral services were held Aug. 20 at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester with the Rev. Robert Flippo officiating, assisted by the Rev. Perry Pearson. Interment followed at Meriwether Memory Gardens in Manchester with Webb Mask Jr., Fred Roberson, Pat Ott, J.B. Crews and Jimmy Crews serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

MRS. VIRLETA AMORA WHITE

Mrs. Virleta Amora White, 94, of Spence Avenue in Newnan died Aug. 15, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 8, 1903 in Carrollton, Mrs. White was the daughter of the late Henry Marion White and Amora Dell (Camp) White. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Newnan and a services representative with Southern Bell.

Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dan White, David White, Dudley Buchanan, Scott White, Lee Watson and Danny White serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews.

MRS. MATTIE REID WILLIAMS

Mrs. Mattie Reid Williams, 98, of Newnan passed away Aug. 16, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born June 18, 1899 in Coweta County, Mrs. Williams was a member of China Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Aug. 20 at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. R.W. Sutton officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with her cousins serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her sister, Ollie Reid of Carrollton; brother, Horace Reid of Buffalo, N.Y.; daughters, Louise Smith of Newnan, Christine Sumlin of East Point; sons Henry Williams Jr. of East Point, Clifford Williams of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Williams of Newnan; daughter-in-law, Annie Mae Williams of Newnan; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; aunts and uncles.

MR. PETER A. WINKLES

Mr. Peter A. Winkles, 91, of Palmetto-Tyrone Road in Sharpsburg died Aug. 19, 1997 at his home.

Born Nov. 6, 1905 in Coweta County, Mr. Winkles was a deacon at Rock Springs Baptist Church and a retired farmer.

Funeral services were held Aug. 22 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. L.O. Thompson officiating, assisted by the Rev. David Ramey. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Robert Cason, Bubba Proctor, Wayne Proctor, Allen Proctor, George Letourneau and Robbie Winkles serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Gena C. Winkles of Sharpsburg; children, Samuel Winkles, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby (Sara) Proctor of Sharpsburg, all of Sharpsburg; grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Cason of Roscoe, Mr. and Mrs. George (Priscilla) Letourneau of Goosecreek, S.C., Mrs. and Mrs. Allen (Kathy) Proctor of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Robbie (Debbie) Winkles, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne (Terri) Proctor, Mr. and Mrs. Bubba (Renee) Proctor, Melissa Proctor, all of Sharpsburg; sister, Louise Sewell of Buford; and 11 great-grandchildren.

MR. ALLEN AUSTIN

Mr. Allen Austin, 78, of Luthersville passed away Aug. 12 at his home.

Born April 9, 1919 in Palatka, Fla., Mr. Austin was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Step Austin. He was a member of New Trinity Baptist Church in Green Grove Spring, Fla. and later a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Luthersville where he was a deacon and superintendent of Sunday School.

Mr. Austin also was a member of the Luthersville Neighborhood Service Center and the senior citizen program.

Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Grady Lawrence officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.C. Neal, the Rev. R.W. Sutton and the Rev. W.J. Johnson.

Interment followed at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Moreland with the New Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Board of Deacons serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Morean Marcus Austin; brother, Nathaniel Austin of Palatka; nieces and nephews.

MR. BOYD DOMINICK

Mr. Boyd Dominick, 64, died Aug. 2, 1997 at Simpson General Hospital in Menderhall, Miss.

Born May 31, 1933 in Newnan, Mr. Dominick was the son of the late David Paul and Ruth Dominick of Newnan. He was retired from ATT Technology as an equipment installer and was a member of Crossgates Baptist Church.

A third-degree Mason, Mr. Dominick was a member of James A. Myers Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Funeral services were held Aug. 4 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl, Miss. with interment following at Rock Bluff Cemetery in Puckett, Miss.

Survivors include his wife, Patsy; sons, Jason Dominick, Boyd Ray Dominick, both of Brandon; brothers, Henry Dominick of Newnan, David Dominick of Warner Robins; sister, Mable Spencer of Panama City, Fla. and five grandchildren.
