MR. ARTHUR FRANKLIN 'DINK' GORDY

Mr. Arthur Franklin "Dink" Gordy, 64, of Senoia died July 27, 1997 at Southern Regional Medical Center.

Born May 5, 1933 in Coweta County, Mr. Gordy was a retired truck driver with McLean Trucking, a member of Teamsters Local #728 and a U.S. Army veteran.

Graveside services were held 29 at Westminster Gardens in Peachtree City with the Rev. Ed Elliott officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Kevin Thompson, Scott Thompson, Mark Parker, Matt Parker, Jimmy O'Neal and Shane Hammock.

Survivors include his mother, Lucy Irene Jones of Newnan; son, Randall and Donna Gordy of Sharpsburg; daughter, Chris and Pamela Gordy Grooms of Sumter, S.C.; brother, David Gordy of Haralson; and grandchildren, Amanda Gordy, Allison Gordy and Emily Grooms.

MRS. MAMIE JACKSON

Mrs. Mamie Jackson, 86, of Newnan died July 28, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held July 31 at McKoon Funeral Home with interment following at Oak Hill Cemetery.

MRS. MARY GILLEY LOWERY

Mrs. Mary Gilley Lowery, 71, of Hogansville died July 27, 1997 at her home.

Born Oct. 12, 1925 in LaGrange, Mrs. Lowery was the daughter of the late Will and Gertrude Davis Gilley and the widow of Bradley E. Lowery. She was retired from Courier Check Company and was employed by Belk's in LaGrange.

Funeral services were held July 29 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Garner officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Kenneth Estes, Larry Estes, David Payne, Kenneth Prock, John Hamblen and Dwayne Robinson serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Brad (Linda) Lowery Jr. of Peachtree City; sister, Mildred Robinson of Hogansville; brothers, Earl Gilley of Tucker, Jack Gilley of Warner Robins, Bob Gilley of Tampa, Fla.; and granddaughters, Traci Sharpton of Auburn, Ala., Tammi Yates of Jonesboro and Tonia Smith of Senoia.

Mrs. Marsha E. McKelphin, wife of Mr. John McKelphin, of Newnan passed away July 28, 1997 at Newnan Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MRS. SIGNE TURNQUIST PATTERSON

Mrs. Signe Turnquist Patterson, 96, of Franklin died July 23, 1997 in Newnan.

Born Dec. 30, 1900 in Two Harbors, Minn., Mrs. Patterson was the daughter of the late Louis and Johanna Janssen Turnquist and the widow of Phil Patterson. She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Berg, Elna Lafferty, Edith Method, Mildred O'Grady, Alice Turnquist and brothers, Warner Turnquist and Roland Turnquist.

Funeral services will be held July 26 (today) at 2 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with Tony Sullivan officiating. Interment will follow later at Lakeview Cemetery in Two Harbors.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dale Fjeran of Franklin; grandchildren, Scott Pearson of Springfield, Va., Mark Pearson of Chicago, Ill., Barbara Starkey of Crystal River, Fla.; step-grandchildren, David Fjeran of Franklin, Greg Fjeran of Newnan, Jody Casey of Douglasville; great-grandchildren, Kerri Boettcher, Patricia Pearson, Mike Pearson, Dan Starkey, Ryan Starkey, Mary Starkey; great-great-grandson, Robbie Boettcher; step-great-grandchildren, Joshua Casey, Jonathan Casey, Joanna Casey, Heather Fjeran, Olivia Fjeran and nieces.

MRS. MAE JULIA TOWNS

Mrs. Mae Julia Towns of Hill Street in Newnan passed away July 20, 1997 at West Georgia Regional Medical Center in LaGrange.

The daughter of the late Rayfield Moore and Edwina W. Moore Cato, Mrs. Towns was a member of Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church. She attended Newnan public schools and graduated from Central High School in 1957.

Mrs. Towns later attended Mather College in South Carolina.

Funeral services were held July 26 at Newnan Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. H.M. Kemp and the Rev. John Sims officiating, assisted by evangelist Gloristein Arnold and the Rev. Paul Campbell. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Anthony Thurmond, Edward Reeves, Ralph Alford, Curtis Arnold, Grady Porter, Alton Taylor and Roger Tucker serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, Bennie Towns; children, Mrs. and Mrs. Tracy (Jill) Alford, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Mary) Towns, Rosemary Towns, Benny C. Towns, Gina Towns; god-children, Jan Calhoun, Jackie Robinson, Kimberly Menefee Smith, Willie Robert Menefee Jr.; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick (Muriel) Franklin, Gracie Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan (Sylvia) Rosser; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy (Diane) Richardson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie (Sarah Frances) Lance, Mr. and Mrs. Earl (Mary Frances) Baskin, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie F. Towns, John Towns; grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Miss Emily Ann Alexander, 1, of Temple died July 20, 1997 at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta.

Born Aug. 6, 1995 in Carroll County, Miss Alexander was the granddaughter of the late Dorothy Ann Mansfield.

Funeral services were held July 23 at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Mike Mims officiating. Interment followed at Beulahland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her parents, David and Leigh Ann Mansfield of Temple; maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Ralph and Barbara Mansfield of Temple; paternal grandparents, John and Cindy Alexander of Sharpsburg; maternal great-grandmother, Ruth Mansfield of Georgetown, S.C.; paternal great-grandmother, Mildred Alexander of Sharpsburg.

MR. EVERETT M. BARBER

Mr. Everett M. Barber, 63, of Bexton Road in Moreland died July 21, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born April 21, 1934 in Moreland, Mr. Barber was the son of the late Alvin Bee Barber and Arverlene (Jones) Barber. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a millwright with General Motors.

Funeral services were held July 24 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Franklin Treadwell officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Jeff Barber, Randy Barber, Jimmy Barber, Pete Pritchett, Mike Barber, Ricky Barber serving as pallbearers and Paul Haney serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. (Barclay) Barber of Moreland; daughter, Darci D. Haney of Moreland; son, Luke B. Barber of Moreland; grandchildren, Cristol Haney, Elizabeth Haney, both of Moreland, Brandon Barber, Joshua Barber, both of Newnan; and brothers, Melvin Barber, Haskel Barber, Douglas Barber, all of Newnan, and J.O. Barber of Luthersville.

MR. BOBBY JOE COCHRAN

Mr. Bobby Joe Cochran, 55, of Pinehill Street in Newnan died July 20, 1997 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

Born Nov. 11, 1941 in Newnan, Mr. Cochran was the son of the late William G. Cochran. He worked as a carpenter.

Funeral services were held July 23 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Farlow officiating, assisted by the Rev. Wendell Thompson. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Jeff Norton, Charles Thompson, Scott Cochran, Chris East, Vince Meadows and David Carroll serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his mother, Allie (Carroll) Cochran of Newnan; sisters and brothers-in-law, Nettie and Billy James King of Newnan, Frances and Wendell Thompson of Sargent; brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Bernice Cochran of Sargent, Clarence and Judy Cochran, Johnny and Sandy Cochran, all of Newnan; and uncle, Henry Carroll of Newnan.

Mrs. Viola E. Ayers Coggin, 86, of Sprayberry Road in Newnan died July 22, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born June 30, 1911 in Carroll County, Mrs. Coggin was the daughter of the late Benjamin Ayers and Idella Yarbrough. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Nell Pike.

Mrs. Coggin was a member of Shiloh Methodist Church in Carrollton and a retired textile worker.

Survivors include her husband, J. Milton Coggin of Newnan; children, Hoyt Plumbley of Morgan City, La., Diane Wade of Newnan; sisters, Kate Musick, Ruby Morrow, both of Carrollton; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

MR. HERSCHEL GADDY

Mr. Herschel Gaddy, 63, of Grantville died July 22, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born May 15, 1934 in Pike County, Mr. Gaddy was the son of the late Thomas and Gertrude Bishop Gaddy. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a retired painter.

Funeral services were held July 24 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. David Arrington officiating. Interment followed at Hillview Annex Cemetery in LaGrange with Roger Hendrix, Charles Dykes, Melvin Sigman, Vance Gaddy, Joey Gaddy and Foy Waite serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Debra Smith of Ellenwood; brother, Donald Gaddy of Newnan and two grandsons.

Miss Kayleigh Ann Hayes, 22 months, died July 22, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held July 25, 1997 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Ball officiating. Interment followed at Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her father, Christopher Kevin Haynes of Newnan; brother, Christopher Daniel Haynes of Newnan; grandparents, Dennis A. Lee, Charles and Marilyn Millians of Newnan, Ralph B. and Brenda A. Haynes Jr.; great-grandparents, Charles and Geraldine Hogan of Union City, Ruby R. Lee, Ralph B. and Frances Haynes Sr. of Newnan; and great-great-grandparents, Gladys Atchley of Newnan.
