MR. ROY DIX

Mr. Roy Dix, 80, of the Primrose community of Meriwether County died July 2, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born Aug. 16, 1916 in Meriwether County, Mr. Dix was the son of the late Irwin and Nona Oglesby Dix. He was a retired warden of the Meriwether County Correctional Institution.

Mr. Dix received a Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his services in the Phillipines during Word War Two and was a member of the Greenville American Legion Post 186. He was a member of Primrose United Methodist Church and Greenville Masonic Lodge 321.

Funeral services were held July 3 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry McCurdy officiating. Interment followed at the Luthersville Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Sue O'Neal Dix of Primrose; daughters and sons-in-law, Frances Eubanks of Roswell, Mr. and Mrs. Nick (Glenda) Halliday of Duluth, Mr. and Mrs. Larry (Suzanne) Ingram of Greenville; sister, Frances Entrekin of Griffin; brother, the Rev. Cecil Dix of Griffin; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

MRS. BETTY L. HENDRIX

Mrs. Betty L. Hendrix, 60, of Grantville died June 21, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born March 16, 1937 in Coweta County, Mrs. Hendrix was the daughter of the late James Robert Shoemake and Ruby Smith Shoemake Wiggins. She operated Hendrix Grocery.

Graveside services were held June 23 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with the Rev. Roy Lee Coggin officiating.

Survivors include her husband, W. Glenn Hendrix of Grantville; son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Roberta Hendrix of Grantville; and a step-grandson, Mark Thomas of Grantville.

MR. JOSEPH YOUNG HUNTER

Mr. Joseph Young Hunter, 79, of Buchanan Street in Newnan died June 26, 1997 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City.

Born Sept. 27, 1917 in Newnan, Mr. Hunter was the son of the late Sidney R. Hunter and Nancy E. (Young) Hunter. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Hunter was a member of White Oak Presbyterian Church and a retired farmer and forester.

Funeral services were held June 28 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Rabun Williams officiating, assisted by Clay Henry. Interment followed at White Oak Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Moreland with Richard Wheat, Richard Bedenbaugh, Glen Hunter and Donny Hunter, Gene Chestnut and Sid Bedenbaugh serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Lula (Strickland) Hunter of Newnan; daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Mike Marchese of Newnan; sisters, Mary Ellen Spearman of Senoia, Betty Hunter Rogers of Newnan; and brother, Vernon "Mutt" Hunter of Turin.

Memorial contributions can be made to Southwest Christian Hospice, First Christian Church or White Oak Presbyterian Church.

MR. MATTHEW JOSEPH McCURRY

Mr. Matthew Joseph McCurry, 19, of Newnan died July 1, 1997 at Georgia Baptist Hospital following a traffic accident.

Born July 12, 1977 in Atlanta, Mr. McCurry was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Sharpsburg.

Funeral services were held July 3 at Heritage Baptist Church with Robert McCurry and Bill Patrick officiating, assisted by John Weaver and W.R. Crews. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Aaron Bassett, Billy Cranford, Nathaniel McCurry, Robbie McCurry, Jeremy Jones, Jarrod McCurry, Charles Caskey, David McCurry, Josh McCurry and Jerry Patrick serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Ronald J. and Pamela (Taylor) McCurry of Newnan; sister, Andrea Leanne McCurry of Newnan; brother, Donald Joshua McCurry of Newnan; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman (Macile) Taylor of Newnan; paternal grandparents, the Rev. and Mrs. Robert (Evelyn) McCurry of Newnan; and great-grandmothers, Ruby McCurry of Newnan and Pearl Taylor of Cartersville.

MRS. JANE MANGET ARNALL

Mrs. Jane Manget Arnall, 62, formerly of Newnan died June 28, 1997 in Columbia, S.C.

Funeral services will be held July 2 (today) at Newnan Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her sons, Clay Arnall of Alabama, Raleigh Arnall of Mississippi, Victor Lapides; mother, Kathryn Manget of Newnan; brother, Bill Manget of Newnan; and sister, Ann Manget Potts of Columbia.

MRS. FRANCES B. COLE

Mrs. Frances B. Cole, 81, of Hogansville died June 27, 1997 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs.

Born May 30, 1916 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Cole was the daughter of the late Gus and Effie Jane Carlton Brooks. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville.

Funeral services were held June 29 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Marion Shivers and the Rev. Charles Ritter officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Raymond Walker, Lewis Phillips, Rance Sprayberry, Mack Reynolds, Jack Estep and Danny Arrington serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, Alford L. Cole of Hogansville; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Wayne Cagle of Canton; and a granddaughter, Ashley Cagle of Canton.

MRS. JESSIE FLORENCE EVANS

Mrs. Jessie Florence Evans, 96, of East Washington Street in Newnan died June 28, 1997 at Beaulieu Convalescent Center.

Born April 22, 1901 in Carroll County, Mrs. Evans was the daughter of the late Thomas Cash and Mary Ann Cook. She was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held July 1 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Ronald Evans, Erven Chisenhall, Don Lyle, Stanley Evans, Douglas Jackson and David Jackson serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her children, Thomas Eugene and Nellie Evans of Hogansville, Clarence and Lille Mae Land of East Newnan, Edward Bailey and Hazel Evans, Laurine Jackson, all of Newnan; Dr. Bobby Joe and Remah Evans of Stockbridge; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. J.P. HEAD

Mr. J.P. Head, 92, of Hogansville died June 28, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born July 5, 1904 in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Head was the son of the late Williams and Molly Pittman Head. He was a member of Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church and a retired shift supervisor from Uniroyal Inc.

Funeral services were held June 30 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with Elder Roy Speir officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Huell Stephens, Mark Puckett, Tony Chambers, Kenneth Speir, Chuck Adams and Francis Driessens serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Thomaston Head of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, Reginald and Kathryn Head of Conyers; grandchildren, Jimmy and Rosie Head of Columbus, Cindy and Howard Jackson of Hogansville, Rosemary and Terry Davenport of Oxford; and six great-grandchildren.

MRS. BETTY L. HENDRIX

Mrs. Betty L. Hendrix, 60, of Grantville died June 21, 1937 at Newnan Hospital.

THE REV. FRANK HOLLOWAY

The Rev. Frank Holloway, 90, of Whitesburg died June 27, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 26, 1907 in Carroll County, The Rev. Holloway was the son of the late Gene and Dora Alice Bailey Holloway. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Alice "Jo" Jenkins.

The Rev. Holloway was a retired machinery operator and a member of Rotherwood Congregational Methodist Church, where he served as a deacon. He was an ordained minister in the Congregational Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

Funeral services were held June 29 at Martin and Hightower Heritage Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Henry and the Rev. Waylon Golden officiating. Interment followed at Whitesburg City Cemetery with his grandsons serving as pallbearers and deacons of Rotherwood Congregational Methodist Church serving as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Kate Moore Holloway of Whitesburg; daughters and sons-in-law, Geraldine and Robert Yearta of Whitesburg, Linda and Donald Morris of Rome; sons and daughter-in-law, Harold and Shirley Holloway of Austell, Charles and Melba Holloway of Whitesburg; son-in-law, Everett Jenkins of Sharpsburg; sister, Florence Watkins of Douglasville; brother, Bill Holloway of East Point; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. HELEN FRANCES HUMPHRIES

Mrs. Helen Frances Humphries, 86, of Newnan died June 26, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Dec. 7, 1910, in Louisiana, Mrs. Humphries was the daughter of the late Charles Steinroth and Sally (Weathersby) Humphries and the widow of James Luther Humphries.

A private memorial services was held.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Diane Minton of Sharpsburg, Donna Robinson of Stockbridge, Troy Crumbley of Pelham and six great-grandchildren.
