MRS. GLADYS LUMPKIN SEWELL

Mrs. Gladys Lumpkin Sewell, 94, of Macon, formerly of Newnan, died recently at a Macon Hospital.

Born in Alexandria, Ala., Mrs. Sewell was the daughter of the late John Berry Hay Lumpkin and Mattie Elizabeth Lumpkin and the widow of Harold P. Sewell. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Newnan and attended Riverside United Methodist Church and the Beaty Sunday School Class in Macon.

Mrs. Sewell graduated from Alabama College and taught economics in Alabama and Coweta County. She was a member of United Methodist Williams and taught Sunday school for years.

Funeral services were held June 29 at Hart's Mortuary with the Rev. Ronnie Culpepper and the Rev. Lester Ariail officiating. Interment followed at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Searcy Jackson officiating.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Betty S. and Max A. Ragland of Macon; grandchildren, Nan R. Fletcher of Valdosta, Kay R. Groover of Macon; great-grandchildren, Scott Fletcher, Jason Fletcher, both of Valdosta, Pearce Groover, Noah Groover, both of Macon; sister, Margaret L. Presswood of Flagler Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions can be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, Box 507, Newnan, Ga. 30264 or Riverside United Methodist Church, 735 Pierce Ave., Macon, Ga., 31204.

MRS. SADIE LOIS TOLBERT

Mrs. Sadie Lois Tolbert, 84, of Poplar Road in Newnan died June 23, 1997.

Born July 14, 1912 in Fayette County, Mrs. Tolbert was the daughter of the late Robert P. Couch and Claude Morgan. A member of the Baptist faith, she was retired from the William L Bonnell Company.

Funeral services were held June 25 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Powers officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Howard. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Stanley Sutton, Morgan Couch, Jimmy Sutton, Jack Davis, Kenny Street and Gary Tolbert serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter, Howard and (Joanne) Brown of Newnan; grandchildren, Debbie Duvall, Randy Brown, Jeff Brown, Tim Brown, all of Newnan; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. NINA ELIZABETH ADAMS

Mrs. Nina Elizabeth Adams, 58, of Jackson Street in Newnan died June 24, 1997 in Opelika, Ala.

Born April 2, 1939 in Banning, Ga., Mrs. Adams was the daughter of the late Bud Berry Smith and Ollie Mae (Landers) Smith. She was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held June 26 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Powell officiating.

Survivors include her daughters, Cindy Adams Hart of Smith, Ala., Christine Adams North of Columbus; sons, Michael R. Marsh of Newnan; sisters, Opal Owens, Mildred Thomason, both of Nashville, Clara McKoy, Irene S. Boynton, Sandra S. Brown, all of Newnan; brothers, George B. Smith of Nashville, Jack C. Smith, Jett M. Smith, both of Newnan, Jack O. Smith of Mississippi, Anthony "Tony" Smith of Summerville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MRS. GAIL ARRINGTON

Mrs. Gail Arrington of Moreland died June 24, 1997.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn with the Rev. Jerry Yates officiating. Interment followed at Sharon Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her husband, A.A. "Curley" Arrington Sr. of Moreland; son, Mr. and Mrs. Bo (Lee) Arrington of Moreland; sister, Patti Fricke of College Park; brothers, Bobby Harris of Riverdale, Mr. and Mrs. Jack (Sharon) Harris of College Park; and sister-in-law, Barbara D. Harris of Moreland.

MR. BRYAN DEASON

Mr. Bryan K. Deason, 18, of Woodland Trail in Newnan died June 23, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born March 13, 1979, Mr. Deason was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jean W. Barker.

Funeral services were held June 24 at First Baptist Church of Newnan with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Grover Carter, Skeeter Thompson, Chris Waller, Adam Brown, David Asher and Bob Stitt serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Larry Wayne and Sharon Ann Barker Deason of Newnan; sister, Stephanie Deason of Newnan; paternal grandparents, Jack C. and Betty F. Deason of Athens; paternal great-grandmother, Bernice Short of Athens; uncle, Harold Nichols and aunt, Peggy Nichols of Pataskala, Okla.; and aunts, Debra Hall of Helen and Connie Barker of Forsyth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Newnan.

THE REV. M. EUGENE DUNN

The Rev. M. Eugene Dunn of Athens died June 24, 1997.

A native of Clark County, the Rev. Dunn was the son of the late Marion and Estelle Bradley Dunn. He was a graduate of Athens High School, Young Harris College, Kentucky Wesleyan College and Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

The Rev. Dunn served as pastor of First United Methodist Church in Newnan and was appointed superintendent for the Athens-Elberton District. He was a member of the pensions board and the Methodist Foundation for Retired Ministers of the North Georgia Conference of the Methodist Church.

He was an active minister in the conference for 42 years.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Young Harris United Methodist Church of Athens with Dr. J. Dan Crawford, the Rev. Charles Middlebrooks, and Dr. Jimmy Thompson officiating. Interment followed at the Oconee Cemetery with ministers and officials of the North Georgia Conference serving as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Louis Williams Dunn of Athens; daughters, Mary Lynn Dunn of Athens, Kathy Dunn Franklin of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to the elevator fund at Young Harris United Methodist Church of Athens.

Mrs. Judy Dale Fisher, 42, of Clark Street in Newnan died June 24, 1997.

Born July 3, 1954 in Coweta County, Mrs. Fisher was the daughter of the late Ellen Loner. She was a member of Victory Tabernacle Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Winslett officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, George Anthony Fisher of Newnan; children, Robert Fisher, Angela Moran, both of Newnan; father, James Brooks of Lynhaven, Fla.; brothers, Danny Brooks, Mike Brooks, both of Newnan; and five grandchildren.

MRS. DORIS E. HANNERS

Mrs. Doris E. Hanners, 74, of Hogansville died June 24, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Aug. 1, 1922 in Sheridan, Wyo., Mr. Hanners was the daughter of the late Robert Ogden Edwards and Jessie Kirkwood Fry Edwards. She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church and a member of the LaGrange chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Eric Killinger and the Rev. Barnard Philpot Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with her grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband. Earl J. Hanners of Hogansville; daughters, Melissa Smith, Marie Johnson, Deborah Martin, all of Hogansville; sons, Earl J. Hanners Jr. of Brooks. R.O. Hanners of Morrow, Dr. Richard Hanners of Charlotte, N.C., Phillip M. Hanners of LaGrange; sisters, Marian Mlynarik of Coopers's Landing, Alaska, Mable Brown of New Castle, Wyo.; brother, Vinton Edwards of Cooper's Landing; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

MR. KENNETH LEE HOUSWORTH

Mr. Kenneth Lee Housworth of Durham, N.C. and formerly of Newnan died June 23, 1997.

Mr. Housworth was the son of the late Lee J. Housworth and Myrtie Lee Causler Housworth. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Merck Housworth.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Hudson Funeral Homer in Durham. Interment followed in Maplewood Estates in Durham.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Ellen and Bill Sewell; grandchildren, Heather Sewell and Heath Sewell, both of Durham; sisters, Opal H. Boyd, Bernice H. Traylor, both of Newnan; nieces and nephews.

MR. W.O. JONES

Mr. W.O. Jones, 65, of Hogansville died June 25, 1997 at West Georgia Regional Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born Feb. 27, 1932 in Troup County, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Johnny and Vera Drake Jones. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a retired truck driver.

Funeral services were held, June 27 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jesse Sims officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include his daughters, Cindy Spradlin of Hogansville, Linda Coker, Kelly Dingler, both of Edna, Texas; sons, Will O. Jones Jr., of Millbrook, Ala., Gerson Jones of Hogansville; sister, Cutene Martin of Gainesville, Fla.; brother, Buck Jones of Gainesville, Fla.; and 13 grandchildren.

MR. JERRY LEE MAPP

Mr. Jerry Lee Mapp, 58, of Franklin died June 23, 1997 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Born April 29, 1939 in Carroll County, Mr. Mapp was the son of the late Earnest and Ida Stitcher Mapp. He was a member of Mills Chapel Baptist Church and a service station manager.

Funeral services were held June 25 at Tom Stutts and Son Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating. Interment followed at Holly Hill Cemetery in Fairburn with Edward Norton, Paul Braley, Allen Spradlin, James Lackey, Don Wilson and Tony Hardegree serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Gene Autrey Mapp of Franklin; daughters, Linda Sue Lackey, Pam and Allen Spradlin, both of Newnan; son, Tim Lee and Wendy Mapp of Peachtree City; sisters, Mildred McClendon of Newnan, Katherine Dolar of Grantville; brothers, W.E. Mapp of Newnan, Curtis Mapp of Tampa, Fla., George Mapp of Jonesboro, Ray Mapp of Carrollton; 14 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
