MRS. SADIE LOIS TOLBERT

Mrs. Sadie Lois Tolbert, 84, of Poplar Road in Newnan died June 24, 1997.

Born July 14, 1912 in Fayette County, Mrs. Tolbert was the daughter of the late Robert P. Couch and Claude Morgan. A member of the Baptist faith, she was retired from the William L Bonnell Company.

Funeral services were held June 25 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Powers officiating, assisted by the Rev. Gary Howard. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Stanley Sutton, Morgan Couch, Jimmy Sutton, Jack David, Kenny Street and Gary Tolbert serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter, Howard and (Joanne) Brown of Newnan; grandchildren, Debbie Duvall, Randy Brown, Jeff Brown, Tim Brown, all of Newnan; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. ETHEL LEE WAGNER

Mrs. Ethel Lee Wagner, 69, of Hogansville died June 24, 1997 at her home.

Born Feb. 8, 1928 in Heard County, Mrs. Wagner was the daughter of the late James Robert Thomaston and Louellen Williamson Thomaston. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held June 26 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Willard Dean, pastor Will Fisher and the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Interment followed at Corinth Cemetery with Bobby Gaddy, Wesley Gaddy, Chad Gaddy, Jerry Hammett Jr., Lance Gaddy, Chance Gaddy, Rusty Hammett and Danny Hammett serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband Edward J. Wagner of Hogansville; daughter, Lille Mae Gaddy, Louise Gaddy, both of Hogansville; sons Harvey Hammett, Jerry Hammett, both of Hogansville; step-daughter, Charmane Desrosiers of Rochester, N.H.; sisters, Frances Lewis of Norfolk, Va., Ruby Mae Cobb of Virginia Beach, Va., Mary Lee Hammett of Corinth; brothers, Jack Thomaston of Chicago, Earl Thomaston of Franklin, J.L. Thomaston of Warrenton; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

MRS. CAROLE BENNETT DAVIDSON

Mrs. Carole Bennett Davidson of Riverdale died June 20, 1997.

Graveside services were held June 24 at Cross Road Baptist Church Cemetery in Dallas, Ga. with the Rev. Wayne Morgan officiating.

Survivors include her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Doug and Belinda (Reid) Abercrombie of Newnan; sisters, Joan E'Dalgo of Mineral Bluff, Ann Williams of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Blake, Seth, Kale and Tori Abercrombie; nieces and nephews.

MR. BRYAN DEASON

Mr. Bryan K. Deason, 18, of Woodland Trail in Newnan died June 23, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born March 13, 1979, Mr. Deason was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jean W. Barker.

Funeral services were held June 24 at First Baptist Church of Newnan with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Grover Carter, Skeeter Thompson, Chris Waller, Adam Brown, David Asher and Bob Stitt serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Larry Wayne and Sharon Ann Barker Deason of Athens; sister, Stephanie Deason of Newnan; paternal grandparents, Jack C. and Betty F. Deason of Athens; paternal great-grandmother, Bernice Short of Athens; uncle, Harold Nichols and aunt, Peggy Nichols of Pataskala, Okla.; and aunts, Debra Hall of Helen and Connie Barker of Forsyth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Mrs. Betty L. Hendrix, 60, of Grantville died June 21, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born March 16, 1937 in Coweta County, Mrs. Hendrix was the daughter of the late James Robert Shoemake and Ruby Smith Shoemake Wiggins. She operated Hendrix Grocery.

Graveside services were held June 23 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with the Rev. Roy Lee Coggin officiating.

Survivors include her husband, W. Glenn Hendrix of Grantville; son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Roberta Hendrix of Grantville; and a step-grandson, Mark Thomas of Grantville.

MR. RON TIMOTHY HENRY JR.

Mr. Ron Timothy Henry Jr., 19, of Newnan died June 17, 1997 at Piedmont Hospital.

Born Aug. 19, 1977 in Newnan, Mr. Henry was a member of Rotherwood Methodist Church and a warehouse worker with Winn-Dixie.

Funeral services were held June 19 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Henry officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jessie Henry. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Jimmy Hornsby, Darrell Stowers, Tony Futral, Randy Rogers, Brian Beckom, Jamie Arrington and Mike Reese serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Lisa M. (Stowers) Henry of Newnan; parents, Ronald Timothy Henry and Barbara (Johnson) Henry; son, Blake Timothy Henry; sister, Alison Camile Henry; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. (Peggy) Henry, Mr. and Mrs. James B. (Evie) Johnson, all of Whitesburg.

MR. PERRY LEE HIXSON SR.

Mrs. Perry Lee Hixson Sr., 62, of Boone Drive in Newnan passed away June 14, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Mr. Hixson was born June 16, 1934 in Coweta County.

Funeral services were held June 19 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.C. Neal officiating. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Gary Arnold, Harold Durrah, Raymond Geter, Donald Langley, James Freeman, Perry Hollins, Richard Moss and William R. Wilcoxson serving as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his children, Mr. and Mrs. Ruben (Joan) Wardlow, Mr. and Mrs. Morris (Jacqueline) Love; sisters, Flora Lynch, Annie Mae Presley, Essie Dell Ransby, Opal Wilson; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Docia Ruth McDade, 83, of Newnan died June 6, 1997 at Starcrest Nursing Home in Newnan.

Born March 29, 1914 in Gordon, Ga., Mrs. McDade was the daughter of the late Dora George and the widow of Sarles R. McDade.

Graveside services were held June 8 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Poole officiating.

Survivors include her sons, Jimmy McDade, Gary McDade; daughters, Gail Walston, Sylvia Carlson, Joan Miller; father, Isaac W. George; and sisters, Velvia Poddy and Florrie Poole.

MR. CLIFFORD PHILLIPS SR.

Mr. Clifford Phillips Sr., 60, of Franklin passed away June 19, 1997 at his home.

Born Aug. 30, 1936 in Heard County, Mr. Phillips was a member and deacon of Bethel Heard Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held June 22 at Bethel Heard Baptist Church with the Rev. C.L. Melson officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.P. Geter, the Rev. J.L. Hendricks, the Rev. R.W. Sutton. Interment followed at the church cemetery with John Rogers, James Floyd, Donnie Houston, Jeff Echols, Dan Parks and Robert L. Echols serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Emily Mae Callaway Phillips; mother, Eunice Geter of Newnan; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Phillips Jr. of Newnan, Master Sgt. and Mrs. Stanley Phillips of San Antonio, Texas, Terry Phillips, Christopher Phillips of Franklin; daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey (Tammy) Askew of Newnan; brothers, the Rev. and Mrs. Willie L. Geter of Newnan, C.S.M. and Mrs. Artie C. Geter of Atlanta; sister, Mary Echols of Atlanta; uncle, Howard Calhoun of Palmetto; aunt, Leola Alford of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren; eight sisters-in-law; seven brothers in law; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tom Scott, 85, of Harper Road in Senoia passed away Jan. 12, 1912 passed away June 20, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 12, 1912 in Opelika, Ala., Mr. Scott was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Moreland. He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene Scott.

Funeral services were held June 24 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. L.W. Booker Sr. officiating, assisted by the Rev. Kenneth Bailey. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Kenyatta Davenport, Rashad Davenport, Dexter Reid, David Ringer, Jimmy Brooks, Bobby Brooks, Christopher Thomas, Rico Blackmon and Bobby Cox serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Scott of Senoia; daughters, Betty L. Cook of Newnan, Tommie L. (Paul) Brooks, Annie B. Brooks of Peachtree City, Georgia M. (Clifford) Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Jeanette) Thomas of Newnan; step-daughter, Doris Elder of Senoia; sons-in-law, J.D. Brooks, Willie E. Cox of Newnan, Lewis Brooks of Sharpsburg; 37 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Truman M. Smith, 77, of Hogansville died June 21, 1997 at his home.

Born March 24, 1920 in Heard County, Mr. Smith was the son of the late George William and Delsenia Cavender Smith. He was retired from Southwire Company in Carrollton.

Funeral services were held June 23 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Jiles and the Rev. Ray Nix officiating. Interment followed at Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Butler Smith of Hogansville; son, Jerry Smith of Hogansville; sisters, Inez Thrash Freeman, Beatrice S, Noble, Sara Henson, all of LaGrange; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Evangelist Minnie B. Thompson, 97, of Reynolds Street in Newnan passed away June 21, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Jan. 1, 1900 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Thompson was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, the Eastern Star, BTU, Heroines of Jericho and other Christian organizations.

Funeral services were held June 24 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church with elder Walter Jackson officiating, assisted by elder Zadie Sims and elder Dollar Daniel. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with Dethrict Johnson, Noah D. Kirkland, Jason G. Hunter, Marcus S. Hunter, Rashad D. Johnson, Lonnie Brooks and John Smith serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. (Mary Frances Elliott) Hunter, of Newnan; brothers, Edrow Barber of Atlanta, Mr. and Mrs. Mose Barber of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Albert Barber of Morrow; sister, Mary M. Barber of Newnan; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
