MR. ALTON 'AL' GETER

Mr. Alton "Al" Geter, 63, of Geter Street in Newnan died June 3, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born April 25, 1934, Mr. Geter was the son of the late Raymond "Doc" Geter and Pearl Geter. He was a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served as a certified lay speaker, superintendent of Sunday school, and a member of United Methodist Men.

Funeral services were held June 7 at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.C. Neal officiating, assisted by the Rev. R.W. Sutton, the Rev. J.W. Russell Sr. and the Rev. Clinton Melson. Interment followed at the church cemetery with nephews and the United Methodist Men serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Genell Geter; daughters, Sandra Standifer of Decatur, Mr. and Mrs. Vivian (Lonzia) Derring, Aranette Neely, all of Newnan; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Patrick (Vivian) Geter of Midway, Ala., Bradford Geter, Reginald Geter, both of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Kerry (Victoria) Geter of Decatur; sister, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lewis (Annie) Newson; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Geter, the Rev. and Mrs. Willie Ed Geter, Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Geter, Raymond Geter, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Geter, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Geter, the Rev. and Mrs. Joe P. Geter; 11 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. JOAN MARIE HOFFMAN

Mr. Joan Marie Hoffman, 70, of Lilburn died June 7, 1997.

A native of Chester, Ill, Mr. Hoffman was a homemaker, a volunteer for Zoo Atlanta and the St. Vincent De Paul Society, and a member of St. John Nuemann Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be held June 13 at 11 a.m. at St. John Nuemann Catholic Church with Father James Fennessey as celebrant. A private interment will follow.

Survivors include her daughters, Susan M. Cave of Chevy Chase, Md., Barbara L. Willard of Dallas, Texas, Jeanne T. Gelfand of Glenview, Ill.; sons, Kent F. Hoffman of Frisco, Texas, Craig A. Hoffman of Columbia, Md., Keith R. Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Zoo Atlanta.

MRS. AMERINE TERRELL JOHNSON

Mrs. Amerine Terrell Johnson, 59, of Herring Road in Newnan passed away June 4, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born May 30, 1938, Mr. Johnson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Terrell and the widow of Matthew Johnson Sr. A son, Carl Johnson, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held June 7 from at Heard Wesley United Methodist Church in Franklin with the Rev. Frank Dean and the Rev. R.W. Sutton officiating, assisted by the Rev. Clinton Melson and the Rev. J.L. Hendrix.

Interment followed at the church cemetery with Shannon Terrell, Robert Echols, Freddie Cheeves, Mose Terrell, Cleophus Echols, Ricky Arnold, Danny Hill and Charlie Terrell Jr. serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her sons, Matthew Johnson Jr., Mr. and Mrs. Willie (Linda) Johnson, all of Newnan; sister, Louvenia Stokes; brothers, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie (Dorothy) Terrell, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Lee (Alva) Terrell, all of Newnan; uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan (Virginia) Terrell of Franklin; aunt, Jessie Mae Terrell of Atlanta; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.

MR. RALPH SHROPSHIRE

Mr. Ralph Shropshire, 81, of Thurmond Street in Palmetto passed away June 5, 1997 at South Fulton Hospital in Atlanta.

Born Nov. 3, 1915 in Coweta County, Mr. Shropshire was preceded in death by his wife, Gussie Mae Sledge. He was a member of Harris Chapel United Methodist Church in Palmetto.

Funeral services were held June 9 at Harris Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. H. Brown officiating, assisted by the Rev. E. best and the Rev. C. Thrower. Interment followed at Palmetto City Cemetery with Otis Mobley, Melvin Knox, Bernard Arnold, Larry Sumlin, John W. Smith and Andre Arnold serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his sons, George and Garnet; daughter, Geraldine; daughters-in-law, Betty, Janice; son-in-law, Bill; grandsons, Everette, Bernard, Dwayne, Norman, Henry; granddaughters, Ebony, Debra; sisters, Elnora, Mobley, Martha Sumlin, Fannie Brown; brother, L.T. Ayers; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Ayers, Daisey Lane, Mary Sledge; brother-in-law, Behula Sledge; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

MR. ROBERT SAMUEL TODD

Mr. Robert Samuel Todd, 86, of Starkville, Miss. died June 8, 1997 at Oktibbeha County Hospital.

Born in Oct. 10, 1910 in Sharpsburg, Mr. Todd the son of the late Luther and Jennie Smith Todd and was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Todd; a sister, Dorothy Askew; and a step-daughter, Frances Williams. He was retired from Todd's Landscape and Maintenance Service and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Starkville, Miss.

Funeral services were held June 10 at Welch Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Whiteside and Dr. Felix Stuphin officiating. Interment will followed June 11 (today) at 3 p.m. at Cokes Chapel in Newnan.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Sikes Todd of Starkville; daughters, Linda Sikes Hobb of Marietta, Betty Sikes Barton of Clinton, Miss; brothers, Phil Todd, Joe Todd, both of Newnan, James Todd of Stark, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

MRS. SARAH H. BURSON

Mrs. Sarah H. Burson, 78, of Temple Avenue in Newnan died June 1, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 25, 1919 in Newnan, Mrs. Burson was the daughter of the late Robert S. Holbrook and Ann Elizabeth Widner) Holbrook and the widow of Malcolm Burson. She was a retired social worker with the State of Georgia and a past president of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society.

She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held June 4 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating with the Euzilian Sunday School Class serving as honorary pallbearers.

Survivors include her sons, Robert M. Burson of Bonita Springs, Fla., Joseph S. Burson of Albany; sister, Ann Elizabeth Connor of Savannah; sister-in-law, Virginia Holbrook of Newnan; nieces and nephews.

MR. JIMMY DENNEY

Mr. James A. (Jimmy) Denney, 38, of LaGrange, formerly of Newnan, died June 4, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born Dec. 18, 1958 in Newnan, Mr. Denney was the son of the late R.A. and Ollie Caswell Denney. He attended Lovejoy United Methodist Church.

Graveside services were held June 6 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating.

Survivors include several aunts and uncles, including Ada Caswell of Newnan.

MR. DEWARD JACKSON

Mr. Deward Jackson, 72, of LaGrange, formerly of Hogansville, died June 4, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born Aug. 10, 1924 in Carroll County, Mr. Jackson was the son of the late Harvey and Nettie Yarbrough Jackson. He was a member, deacon and organist for Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville.

Mr. Jackson retired from Solomon's Department Store in LaGrange and had served as manager of Belk-Gallant in Hogansville.

Funeral services were held June 6 at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Marty Few officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with Joe Hamby, Elmer Williams, Randy McWhorter, Dub Mize, Sam Mickle and J.C. Daniel serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Staples Jackson of LaGrange; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Randy McWhorter of Hogansville; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Brenda Jackson of West Point; granddaughters, Angie McWhorter, Paula McWhorter, Kelly Freeman, Karen Drake, all of Hogansville; and four great-grandchildren.

MRS. MARIE JORDAN

Mrs. Marie Jordan, 71, of Paul Street in Newnan passed away June 1, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Sept. 23, 1925 in Coweta County, Mrs. Jordan was the daughter of the late Willie and Estella Johnson and the step-daughter of the late Ella Johnson. She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Funeral services were held June 5 at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. John Farmer and the Rev. H.H. Dyer officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jimmy L. Hendricks, the Rev. G.B. Vaughn and the Rev. Rufus Smith. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Newnan Lodge F&AM 299 serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Jordan; god-daughter, Cawanna Reeves of Carrollton; sisters, Virginia Johnson of Newnan, Mr. and Mrs. Edward (Mary) Stevenson of Detroit, Mich.; brothers, Willie P. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred (Betty) Johnson, all of Atlanta, Horace Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny (Charlene) Johnson, all of Newnan; sisters-in-law, Lovie J. Reeves of Newnan, Hattie P. Beasley of Atlanta, Ola Mae Smith of Detroit; brothers-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Earnest (Sadie Mae) Jordan of Newnan, Fletcher Jordan Sr. of Atlanta; nieces and nephews.

MR. JOHN E. McKEEHAN

Mr. John E. McKeehan, 67, of Grantville died June 3, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born Feb. 1, 1930 in Gastonia, N.C., Mr. McKeehan was the son of the late John and Frances McDonald McKeehan. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was retired from West Point Pepperell in Grantville.

Funeral Services were held June 5 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Moore officiating. Interment followed at Grantville Cemetery with Everett Clark, Chris King, Lem Kee, Bill Kee, Charles Combs and Jimmy Gantt serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Lackey McKeehan of Grantville; daughter, Beatrice O. McKeehan of Green Forest, Ark.; sons, James A. McKeehan of Grantville, John E. McKeehan Jr. of Hogansville; sisters, Avenelle Poole, Beatrice Foster, both of Alabama; brothers, Albany McKeehan of Kings Mountain, N.C., Harrison McKeehan of Alabama; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
