MR. BUREN 'FLOPPY' BORDERS

Mr. Buren "Floppy" Borders, 73, of Lake Circle in Newnan died May 23, 1997 in Newnan.

Born Feb. 5, 1924 in Carrollton, Mr. Borders was the son of the late Doc and Lillie Mae (Ayers) Borders. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean (Earwood) Borders.

A member of Arnco Baptist Church, Mr. Borders was a retired boiler maker.

A memorial services was held May 27 at Arnco Baptist Church with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating, assisted by the Rev. John Yost.

Survivors include his sons, Ronald Lee Borders of Fernandina Beach, Fla., Richard Monroe Borders of Newnan; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and cousins.

MR. WILLIE TENNEY

Mr. Willie Tenney of Primrose Road in Grantville passed away May 29, 1997 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MR. PERRY L. WHATLEY

Mr. Perry L. Whatley, 39, of Newnan died May 26, 1997 at his home.

Born May 26, 1958 in Atlanta, Mr. Whatley lived in Coweta County most of his life and was a member of the Baptist faith. He worked as an electrician for the William L Bonnell Company in Newnan.

A memorial service was held May 29 at West Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Stitcher officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Beth McCoy Whatley of Newnan; daughter, Shannon Elizabeth Whatley of Newnan; sons, Shane Lewis Whatley, Chad Eugene Whatley, both of Newnan; mother, Sally Spivey of Moreland; father, Charles Whatley of Cedartown; step-father, Tom Railey of LaGrange; brother, Bruce Eugene Whatley of Tennessee; and paternal grandmother, Lessie Whatley of Cedartown.

Memorial contributions can be made to West Bethel Baptist Church.

MRS. JULIA L. BROWN

Mrs. Julia L. Brown, 74, of Hogansville passed away May 23, 1997 at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta.

Born March 5, 1923 in Chatham County, N.C., Mrs. Brown was educated in the Coweta County School System before moving to New York, where she graduated from the Lincoln School of Nursing. She retired after more than 40 years as a nurse.

In North Carolina, she was a member of Hanks Chapel Congregational Church and later joined Dunton Presbyterian Church in New York, where she served as a deacon and a member of the nominating and women's day committees.

After moving to Hogansville, Mrs. Brown attended Springfield Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held May 27 at Springfield Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph A. McGuire officiating, assisted by other ministers. Interment will be at Hanks Chapel Cemetery in Pittsboro, N.C.

Survivors include her husband, William E. Brown; sisters, Viola McIntyre of Pittsboro, Sarah (James) Woodson of New York, N.Y.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

MRS. MARY L. HERNDON

Mrs. Mary L. Herndon of Mary Jane Road in Newnan passed away May 26 at Newnan Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Roscoe Jenkins Funeral Home.

MR. E.C. JOHNSON

Mr. E.C. Johnson, 82, of Hogansville died May 24, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 3, 1914 in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Johnson was the son of the late James and Anne Towler Johnson. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War Two, Mrs. Johnson was retired from Douglas and Lomason Co. in Newnan.

Graveside services were held May 26 at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville with the Rev. David Pickard officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Daisy Smith Johnson of Hogansville; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Barge (Valeria) Garner of Fayetteville; sisters, Loyette Horne of Orlando, Fla., Wilma Boynton of Longwood, Fla.; brothers, Herman Johnson, Carmen Johnson, both of LaGrange; and granddaughters, Gail Gordon of Stockbridge and Lynn Garner of Elkins, W.V.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. James United Methodist Church or any charity.

MR. NOAH JAMES RIMLINGER

Mr. Noah James Rimlinger, 14, of Meadowbrook Drive in Newnan died May 22, 1997 in Atlanta.

Born April 10, 1983 in Riverdale, Mr. Rimlinger was a member of Kenwood Christian Church and attended Point South Middle School.

Funeral services were held May 24 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Carrier officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with Brian Hornsby, Jason Wilds, Rick Burgess, Mike Burgess, Denny Larson and Jeff Grubber serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, James and Denise Rimlinger of Newnan; sisters, Ami Barnett of North Augusta, S.C., Allison Bryant of Stockbridge; brother, Adam Moss of Jonesboro; maternal grandparents, Fred and Doylene Taylor of Albertville, Ala.. Donald Hallman of Columbus, Ohio; paternal grandfather, James H. Rimlinger of Nashville, Tenn.; and maternal great-grandparents, Vander and Eva Webb of Winfield, Ala.

MR. JAMES LEONARD BENNETT SR.

Mr. James Leonard Bennett Sr., 69, of Athens, formerly of Newnan, died May 19, 1997 in Athens.

Born Feb. 3, 1928 in Randolph County, Ala., Mr. Bennett was the son of the late James Edward Bennett and Mary Ella (Hall) Bennett and was preceded in death by a son, J. Leonard Bennett Jr.. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newnan.

A U.S. Navy veteran during World War II, Mr. Bennett retired from Newnan Hospital in 1991.

Memorial services were held May 21 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Parish officiating, assisted by the Rev. James Hood.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Lane Bennett; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (Rosalyn) Maner if Athens; grandchildren, Ned Maner, Beth Bennett Barron, Jay Bennett; great-granddaughter, Cortlyn Maner; sisters, Verbal Heard of Roanoke, Ala., Sara Shewark of New York; and brother, Harvey Bennett of Roanoke, Ala.

Memorial contributions can be made to First United Methodist Church of Newnan.

MISS LISABETH "LIBBY" CALDWELL

Miss Lisabeth "Libby" Caldwell, 91, of Atlanta died May 19, 1997 in Atlanta.

Born Aug. 16, 1905 in Chipley, Ga., Mrs. Caldwell was the daughter of the late James Wesley Caldwell and Ora Lee (Jenkins) Caldwell. She was a member of Chipley Baptist Church and a retired clerk and secretary with Southern Railway.

Graveside services were held May 19 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating.

Survivors include her sister, Ada Marie Caldwell of Atlanta; brother, Charles C. Caldwell of Brevard, N.C.; and nieces and nephews, including John Caldwell of Newnan.

MR. CARROLL HICKS

Mr. Carroll Hicks, 61, of Sharpsburg died May 19, 1997.

Born Dec. 2, 1935, Mr. Hicks was president and owner of Phase II Lighting in Peachtree City and was retired from the U.S. Naval Air Force Reserve. He was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Peachtree City.

Funeral services were held May 22 at First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with Dr. Harold Allen and the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Interment followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Hicks; daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt (Keely) Haynie of Fayetteville, Kathie Couch of Peachtree City; grandsons, Brent Couch, Bert Couch, Logan Haynie, Travis Haynie; sister, Marie Isaacs if Newland, N.C.; brothers, Jimmy Hicks of Chattanooga, Tenn., Alan Mitchell of Carrollton; nieces and nephews.

MRS. MARTHA 'EVIE ROOKS' JOHNSON

Mrs. Martha "Evie Rooks" Johnson, 87, of Newnan died May 19, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born March 5, 1910 in Newnan, Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of the late J.H. Rooks and Sadie (Yarbrough) Rooks and the widow of Marvin Johnson. She was a member of Westview Christian Church and was a retired sewing machine operator with Playtex Corp.

Funeral services were held May 22 at McKoon Funeral Home with Tony Sullivan officiating, assisted by Lindsey Herndon and Duke Jones. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with deacons of Westview Christian Church serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.
