MRS. CLARIBELLE NIFONG

Mrs. Claribelle Nifong, 70, of Sarasota, Fla., formerly of Newnan, died May 17, 1997.

Born Sept. 24, 1926 in Plainwell, Mich., Mrs. Nifong retired as a payroll manager for Selmer Band Instrument Manufacturing Co. in Elkhart, Ind. after 27 years of service.

Funeral services will be held May 31 at First Presbyterian Church in Sarasota.

Survivors include her husband, Ralph Nifong; daughter, Anita Brass of Sarasota; sons, Stephen Smith of Auckland, New Zealand, Gary Smith of Orlando, Fla.; and sister, Ada Ernst of Plainwell.

MRS. EMMA ROBINSON McCAMEY

Mrs. Emma Robinson McCamey, 80, of Newnan passed away May 18, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Oct. 6, 1916 in Troup County, Mrs. McCamey was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newnan.

Funeral services were held May 22 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Johnson officiating, assisted by the Rev. H.J. Long. Interment followed at Eastview Cemetery with George R. Jordan, Nate Domineck, William Newell Jr., Harry J. Newell and Bobby Scott serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her son, Joe L. McCamey of LaGrange; godson, Charlie R. Martin; nieces and nephews.

MR. ADAM A. 'BUCKY' PHILLIPS

Mr. Adam A. "Bucky" Phillips, 87, of Sharpsburg died May 20, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born in South Plainfield, N.J., Mr. Phillips moved to Sharpsburg in February. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Abbie (Dorgan) Phillips. He had been employed by the County of Middlesex as deputy superintendent for the New Jersey Weights and Measures of Middlesex County for 28 years before retiring in 1978.

Mr. Phillips also had worked for the Borough of South Plainfield as tax collector and treasurer.

He was a member of the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department from 1929 to 1959 and held held the office of captain. He was a life member of the New Jersey State Exempt Firemans Association, becoming the group's oldest member, and the New Jersey State Firemans Association.

Mr. Phillips was active in the South Plainfield Democratic Organization and served as a councilman from 1938-47. He served as Democratic county chairman for District 2 and as Democratic municipal chairman.

Mr. Phillips served as chairman of the South Plainfield Rotary Club in 1967 and was a charter member of the organization. He was past president of the South Plainfield Recreation Commission and the South Plainfield Public Library Board.

In 1964, Mr. Phillips was appointed as president of the New Jersey State Weights and Measures Association. From 1930 to 1940, he was a correspondent for The Courier-News in South Plainfield.

Mr. Phillips was a found member of Our Lady Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church. In 1909, he was the first boy baptized in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield.

Funeral services will be held May 24 (today) at McCriskin Home For Funerals in South Plainfield, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie (Grasso) Phillips; son, Kenneth E. Phillips; stepsons, Bill Grasso of Sharpsburg, Michael Grasso of Barnegat, N.J.; sisters, Vongi McCormick, Mary Mason, both of Manahawkin, N.J., Natalie Keslosky of Rockville, Maryland; four grandchildren; five great-grandsons and six step-grandchildren.

MR. RUFUS ROSCOE TAYLOR

Mr. Rufus Roscoe Taylor, 58, of Senoia passed away May 16, 1997 at his home.

Born April 26, 1939, Mr. Taylor was a member of Neriah Baptist Church in Senoia.

Funeral services were held May 20 at Neriah Baptist Church with elder Thompson U. Kay officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. Nelson and the Rev. B.L. Clements. Interment followed at the church cemetery with James Baker, Jermaine Taylor, David Smith, Melvin Rosser, Kevin Martin and Franklin Sinkfield serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Sarah L. Hinton of Senoia; sisters, the Rev. and Mrs. B.L. (Alice) Clements of Atlanta, Georgia Willie Taylor of Senoia, Elder and Mrs. Thompson U. Kay of Lincoln, Neb.; brother, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy (Louise) Taylor of Fayetteville; uncle, Dock Dollar of Atlanta; four grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MRS. AMANDA J. TEAGLE

Mrs. Amanda J. Teagle, 90, passed away May 18, 1997 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Born June 5, 1906 in Heard County, Mrs. Teagle was a member of Mount Prospect Baptist Church in Moreland where she served on the Mother Board. She was preceded in death by a son, Henry Teagle, and son-in-law, Tommie Lee Smith.

Funeral services were held May 22 at Mt. Prospect Baptist Church with the Rev. MacArthur Blount officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery with his nephews serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her children, Mr. and Mrs. John (Catherine) Teagle, Mrs. and Mrs. Willie (Easter Mae) Teagle, Mr. and Mrs. (Annie Grace) Teagle, Mr. and Mrs. James (Ethel) Teagle, The Rev. and Mrs. Charlie (Georgia Mae) Teagle, the Rev. and Mrs. Robert (Brenda) Teagle, Catherine Smith, Mr. and Mrs. James (Carrie) Thompson; daughter-in-law, Mary Jane Teagle; niece, Ella Mae Person; nephew, Will Penson; great-niece, Reba M. Keesie; and 31 grandchildren.

MR. JACKIE ADAMS

Mr. Jackie Adams, 47, of Kirby Circle in Newnan passed away May 13, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born May 1, 1950, he was a member of Powell Chapel United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Power Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. R.W. Sutton officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery with his cousins serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his parents, Bennie and Edna Adams; son, Seal Young Adams; daughters, Phoeba of Atlanta, Phoeba of Denver; friend, Evelyn Cross; aunts, Queen Esther Clements, Willie Kirby, both of Atlanta, Christine Parks of Newnan; uncles, Willard Kirby of Detroit, Mich., Millard Kirby of Newnan; sister-in-law, Sylvia Adams of Atlanta; one grandson, one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.

MR. JAMES EDWARD ALEXANDER SR.

Mr. James Edward Alexander Sr., 57, of South Alexander Road in Newnan passed away May 14, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born June 5, 1939 in DeKalb County, Mr. Alexander was the son of the late Robert and Ethel Alexander.

Funeral services were held May 19 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with Bishop C.E. White officiating, assisted by the Rev. Chester Beavers and the Rev. John Farmer. Interment followed at Floral Hill Cemetery in Palmetto with Ralph Echols, John Smith, Tony Smith, Charles Obie, John Cook and Melvin Know serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Alexander; children, Mr. and Mrs. William (Bridgett) Hill, Mr. and Mrs. Escridge (Yolanda) Mobley, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Celestia) Beasley, James Alexander Jr., Petrina Alexander, Justin Alexander, all of Newnan; Gray Alexander of Atlanta; aunts, Juanita White, Betty Taylor, Daisy Thompson, Mary Hood; uncles Jesse Woods, Sam Elias Woods; 15 grandchildren; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law and his mother-in-law.

MRS. NORMA BURMAN

Mrs. Norma Burman, 76, of Peachtree City died May 15, 1997.

The widow of Warren L. Burman, Mrs. Burman was a member of Peachtree City United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Peachtree City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Hodges officiating. Interment followed at Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City.

Survivors include her, son, Curt Burman of Duluth; daughter, Cynthia Burman of Chicago; granddaughters, Rachel Burman, Elizabeth Burman; and sister, Helen Powers of Shrewsbury, Mass.

MRS. LISABETH "LIBBY" CALDWELL

Mrs. Lisabeth "Libby" Caldwell, 91, of Atlanta died May 19, 1997 in Atlanta.

Born Aug. 16, 1905 in Chipley, Ala., Mrs. Caldwell was the daughter of the late James Wesley Caldwell and Ora Lee (Jenkins) Caldwell. She was a member of Chipley Baptist Church and a retired clerk and secretary with Southern Railway.

Graveside services were held May 19 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Gene Tyre officiating.

Survivors include her sister, Ada Marie Caldwell of Atlanta; brother, Charles C. Caldwell of Brevard, N.C.; and nieces and nephews, including John Caldwell of Newnan.

MR. BRUNELL GIBSON

Mr. Brunell Gibson, 83, of Howard Hughes Road in Newnan passed away May 14 at Starcrest Convalescent Home.

Born Nov. 13, 1913 in Coweta County, Mrs. Gibson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gibson and a member of Wesley Chapel AME Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Caldwell.

Funeral services were held May 17 at Wesley Chapel AME Church with the Rev. Melvin Henry officiating, assisted by the Rev. Charles Beadles and the Rev. R.W. Sutton. Interment followed at the church cemetery with Roderick Almond, Jim H. Holloway Jr., Eddie Stegall Jr., Willie James Gibson Jr., Dewight Gibson and Antoine Reid serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. James E. (Celia Mae) Ware; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. R.H. (Mary) Neely, Iretha Almond, all of Newnan; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Geneva Murry Sales, 58, passed away May 15, 1997 in Dekalb County.

Born in Coweta County, Ms. Sales was the daughter of the late Johnny B. Benning. She was a member of Pineview Holiness Church in Senoia.

Funeral services were held May 18 at Pineview Holiness Church with elder Grady Reid Sr. officiating, assisted by elder Clinton Smith, pastor Cecil Newton and elder Ira Smith. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Survivors include her mother, Emma L. Murry; children, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (JoAnn) Drayton of Riverdale, Michael A. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Lowry N. (Annette) Sales of Union City; Mr. and Mrs. Livingston (Angel) Glenn of Decatur; Mr. and Mrs. Eddie (Rena) Sims of Jonesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Andre (Dorine) Barley of College Park; Eric Sales of Decatur; sisters, Mr. and Mrs. Felton (Johnnie Mae) Sales, Mr. and Mrs. Donald (Hattie) Flowers; 14 grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
