MR. CHARLES E. BROWN

Mr. Charles E. Brown, 50, of Luthersville died March 27, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born Feb. 9, 1947 in Newnan, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Euel and Mildred Massey Brown. He was a member of Luthersville Baptist Church and a retired lumber grader for Mead Wood Products in Greenville.

Funeral services were held at Luthersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Collins officiating. Interment followed at the Luthersville Cemetery with Joe Perryman, Howard Brown, David Brown, Tim Kendrick, David Massey, Troyce Dukes and Lee Brown serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include aunts, uncles and cousins.

MRS. BUVENA BURNS

Mrs. Buvena Burns, 86, of Whitesburg died March 29, 1997 at Tanner Medical Center.

Born in Carroll County, Mrs. Burns was the daughter of the late William Holder and Ida Rooks Holder and the widow of Robert M. Burns. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burns was a member of Whitesburg Christian Church.

Funeral services were held March 31 at Almon Funeral Home with Denver Sizemore and Allen Howard officiating. Interment followed in Carroll Memory Gardens with Bobby Burns, Mitchell Burns, Keith Burns, Melvin Burns, Eric Woodard, Chris Duncan, Scott Duncan and Chad Cunningham serving as pallbearers. Mark Burns was honorary escort.

Survivors include her daughters, Judy Duncan of Carrollton, Carol Whitley, Sylvia Huckeba, both of Whitesburg; sons, Steve Burns, Don Burns, both of Whitesburg, Bob Burns of Sargent, David Burns of Tallahassee, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a nephew.

MRS. DOLLIE HARRIS

Mrs. Dollie Harris, 94, of Newnan died March 29, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Jan. 5, 1903 in Georgia, Mrs. Harris was the daughter of the late William O. and Eva Kate (Chandler) Jones and the widow of James Howard Harris. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held March 31 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. David Arrington officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bill Dean. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with grandsons, Joe Young, Andy Young, Randy Slaton, Mike Slaton, Wayne Kilgore and George Hill serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her daughters, Annie Kate Brown of Newnan, Barbara J. Stitcher, Sally H. Slaton, both of Grantville; 15 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

MR. HORACE CLEVELAND HUNT JR.

Mr. Horace Cleveland Hunt Jr., 66, of Valdosta died March 29, 1997 at Langdale Place.

Born June 30, 1930 in Valdosta, Mr. Hunt was the son of the late Horace Cleveland Hunt Sr. and Alice Copeland Hunt. He was a retired banker with Commercial Banking Company and had worked for First Union of Valdosta.

Mr. Hunt was a member of First Baptist Church of Valdosta.

Graveside services were held March 31 at Sunset Hill with the Rev. Delos Sharpton and the Rev. Mac Weaver officiating.

Survivors include his cousins, Eloise S. Johnson of Quitman, Maribel H. Kadel of Moultrie, Virginia C. Drumheller of Valdosta, and James B, Copeland Jr. of Hepzibah.

MR. PAUL FRANK MUSICK JR.

Mr. Paul Frank Musick Jr., 72, of Minnie Sewell Road in Grantville died March 26, 1997 in Newnan.

Born Dec. 19, 1924 in Carroll County, Mrs. Musick was the son of the late Paul Frank Musick Sr. He was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Musick was a retired U.S. Army lieutenant colonel, having received the Distinguished Service Cross, the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and two Purple Hearts.

Graveside services were held March 29 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Ogne. Serving as pallbearers were Fred Blackwell, Bob Lee, Paul Smith, Dan Holl, Jimmy Ross and John Lambert. Mr. Musick was buried with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Clara (Johnson) Musick of Grantville; mother, Alice Irene (Williamson) Musick of Grantville; daughters, Susan Elizabeth Story of Grantville, Deborah Ann Haney of Hogansville; son, Paul Frank Musick III of Perry; brother, George Lamar Musick of Barnesville; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to Newnan Presbyterian Church.

MR. FRANK POWERS

Mr. Frank Powers, 87, of Hogansville died March 30, 1997 at Franklin Healthcare Center.

Born Aug. 9, 1909 in Coweta County, Mr. Powers was the son of the late James and Elizabeth Osborn Powers. A retired dairy worker, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Hogansville and a member of the Hogansville Masonic Lodge.

Funeral services were held April 1 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Jerry Cross officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Payton Powers of Hogansville; sons, Eugene Powers of Hogansville, the Rev. Franklin J. Powers of Douglasville; sisters, Mary McCollum of Grantville, Sue Bishop of Smyrna; brothers, Mike Powers of Grantville, Jack Powers of Peachtree City; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

MR. HARLEY HANSON

Mr. Harley Hanson, 64, of Sunrise Drive in Newnan died March 29, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born Jan. 18, 1933 in Newnan, Mr. Hanson was a member of Charity Baptist Church and was a retired salesman with Frito-Lay.

Graveside services were held March 31 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan with the Rev. Willard Dean officiating, assisted by J.C. Cook. Serving as pallbearers were Tim Patterson, Donald Blankenship, Edward Norton, Ed Wyatt, Donald McCarty and Curtis Addison.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hanson of Newnan; daughter, Kathy Robards of Newnan; son Robin Hanson of Macon; and three grandchildren.

MR. WILLIAM ARNOLD SAMPLER

Mr. William Arnold Sampler, 74, of Griffin and former of Newnan died March 29, 1997 at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Born in Spalding County, Mr. Sampler was the son of the late Charlie N. Sampler and Kate White Sampler. he was a retired mechanic and a member of the Holiness faith.

Funeral services were held March 31 at McCollough Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Wempner and the Rev. Lewis James officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Survivors include his children, Richard Sampler of Cochran, Bonnie S. Lewis of Centerville, Teresa S. Bryant of Cochran; sister, Janice Bedole of Griffin; brothers, Charlie Sampler, Gene Sampler, Joe Sampler, all of Griffin, Jack Sampler of Brooks; grandchildren, Gayla Taylor, Julie Lewis, Angela Allen, Natalie Allen; nieces and nephews.

MR. J. VESSIE SHIREY

Mr. J. Vessie Shirey, 89, of Hogansville died March 30, 1997 at Hospice LaGrange.

Born July 28, 1907 in Heard County, Mr. Shirey was the son of the late Joseph and Ada Holsombeck Shirey. A member and deacon of Antioch Baptist Church in Hogansville, he was a former Sunday School superintendent and teacher and served as church clerk.

Funeral services were held March 31 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Marty Few and the Rev. R.C. Prescott officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.

Survivors include his daughters, Cleo Tucker of Hogansville, Gwen Prophett of LaGrange; sister, Kate Gladney of Hogansville; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. SUSAN CALHOUN SIMPSON

Mrs. Susan Calhoun Simpson, 89, of Glenmar Drive in Newnan died March 26, 1997 at her home.

Born Dec. 25, 1907 in Coweta County, Mrs. Simpson was the daughter of the late Calhoun M. and Ridy (Powel) Hill and the widow of John James Simpson Sr. She was a member of Newnan Presbyterian Church and a homemaker.

Graveside services were held March 28 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Susan Elizabeth Simpson of Covington; daughter-in-law, Pat S. Hodges of Marietta; cousin, Laelius Davis of Newnan; and nephew Walton Fink of Atlanta.

MR. ROY C. WATTS

Mr. Roy C. Watts, 86, of Grantville died March 28, 1997 at Starcrest of Newnan.

Born April 10, 1910 in Coweta County, Mr. Watts was the son of the late Grover and Dovie Alexander Watts. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Grantville and was retired from Grantville Mills.

Funeral services were held March 30 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Kara Stalcup officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia Pye Watts of Grantville; daughter, Mildred Musick of Barnesville; son, Leroy Watts of Columbus; brother, Raymond Watts of Newnan; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
