Carol J. Garrett

Carol J. Garrett, 63, of Monroe died May 20, 2006.

A native of Coffee County, she was the daughter of the late Clifton and Blanche Rector Russell. The widow of J. Nelson Garrett, she was a homemaker and was a member of the Monroe First United Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held May 21, 2006 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Margaret Adams officiated and interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Sydney Cooper, Aaron McPhee, Scott Pearre, Jerry Moore and Tony Cornelius.

She is survived by daughters: Michelle Garrett and Dani Garrett both of Augusta and Susan Garrett of Madison.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors were in charge of the arrangements.

Linda Williams

Linda Williams, 63 of Bold Springs died on June 2, 2006.

She was born in Walton County on March 12, 1943 to the late John Wilbon Herndon and the late Mary Louell Peters Herndon. She was preceded in death by her brother: the late Perry Nathaniel “Buck” Herndon.

Surviving are husband: Lucious H. Williams, Bold Springs; daughters and son-in-law: Jan and Chris Phelps, Social Circle, Sonya Phelps, Bold Springs and Kendra Ollinger, Atlanta; sister: Virginia Talley, Lavonia; brothers: Gavan Herndon, Monroe and Randell Herndon, Hesperia, Ca; grandchildren: Jonathan Phelps, Chris Brown, Ray Brown, Jerica Phelps, Ashley Stone, Jennifer Phelps, Andrew Phelps, Lauren Ollinger, David “Joe” Morris, and Lindy Dial; great grandchildren: Alexis Phelps, Katlyn Phelps and Brenden Clayton.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday June 4 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. with the Rev. Billy Britt officiating. Interment followed at Peters Family Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

SFC Richard Samuel Hester

SFC Richard Samuel Hester 34, of Brevard County FL. died June 1, 2006. He was the son of Ellen Faircloth Hester of Monroe, GA. and the late Henry Richard Hester.

Services were held on Friday June 9, 2006 at First Baptist Church, Cairo, GA. Interment followed in Cairo Cemetery with full Military Honors. Officiating was The Rev. Jim Hamlin and The Rev. Bob Franklin.

SFC Hester had a passion for the outdoors. He loved mountain biking, canoeing, and hiking. He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1994 and completed his Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sam Houston, TX. as a Health Care Specialist. SFC Hester’s first assignment was HHB 6/37th Field Artillery, Camp Stanley, Korea as a medic. He then continued on to the 131st Field Hospital in 1995 and the 31st Combat Support Hospital in 1996 out of Fort Bliss, Tx. serving as an Emergency Treatment Sergeant while deployed to Haiti for six months. SFC Hester transferred to Fort Stewart, GA. in 1997 where he was part of HHC 1-64 Armor and 240th Forward Surgical Team as a Platoon Sergeant before completing a second rotation to Korea with HHC, 2nd ID. His final assignment was C, 3D FSB serving as Platoon Sergeant from 2003-2006. During Operation Iraqi Freedom III, SFC Hester was the Brigade Medical Training NCOIC and Primary Class Instructor. His awards include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, 5 ARCOM’s, 4 AAM’s. 4 AGCM’s, 2 NDSM’s, KDSM, 3 NOPDR’s, 2 OSR’s, UNM (Haiti), ICM, GWTSM, ASR, CMB, EFMB, and Air Assault.

He is survived by; his wife of one month: Sarah C. Hester of Ft. Stewart, GA., mother: Ellen Hester of Monroe, GA., children: Anna and Alli Hester of Hinesville, GA., sisters: Martha Prince and Mary Chason both of Cairo, GA., grandmother: Clara Jean Faircloth of Cairo, GA., nieces: Kathryn Prince, Kelly Prince and Sarah Chason all of Cairo, GA., nephew: Phillip Chason of Cairo, GA., and preceded in death by; his father: Henry Richard Hester, grandparents: Roderick and Rebecca Hester and Earl Faircloth.

Clark Funeral Home 334 S. Broad St. Cairo, GA. was in charge of arrangements.

Beverly Sims Wilson

Services for Mrs. Beverly Sims Wilson, formerly of Monroe, will be held Saturday, June 10,2006 at Greater Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Atlanta.

Visitation will be Thursday, June 8th from 1 to 8PM at our funeral home. 129 W. Washington Street and on Friday June 9th at Gregory B. Levett & Sons Funeral Home, Flat Shoals Pkwy, Decatur.

Cohen Brown

Cohen Brown, 1 of Monroe died on June 1, 2006.

He was born on March 8, 2005 in Clarke County to Brandon and Kim Brown. He was preceded in death by his grandfather: the late Tom Brown and late great grandfathers and the late Ned Jordan and the late Mahlon Brown.

Surviving are parents: Brandon and Kim Brown, Monroe, brothers: Cameron Brown and Chase Brown, both of Monroe; grandparents: Brad and Becky Barton, Monroe, Marcia and Frank Young, Monroe; great grandparents: Horace and Mary Barton, Monroe, Hugh and Evelyn Crew, Monroe, Dorothy and Bill Kohl, Monroe, Toni Jordan, Monroe; aunts, uncles, cousins and many many friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 4 at the Monroe Church of God with the Rev. Wayne Durden officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Geneva Allgood

Geneva Allgood, 89 of Social Circle died on May 24, 2006. She was born on Feb. 10 1917 in Oconee County to the late Pat Mell Thompson and the late Mattie Launa Hodges Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband: the late Clarence Morgan “Fritz” Allgood.

Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law: Loutitia and Marshall Phelps, Social Circle; son and daughter-in-law: Clarence and Darnell Allgood Jr., Covington; seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 26 at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Wood officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Cliff Tilton, Benson Dial, Don Phelps, Terry Allgood, Mark Collins and David Phelps. Honorary pallbearer was Faron Head.

William “Bill” Lavender

William “Bill” Lavender, 76 of Social Circle, died on May 31, 2006.

He was born in Butts County on Sept. 14, 1929 to Nell Flynt Lavender and the late Ernest Fleetwood Lavender. He was preceded in death by his brother: the late Scott Lavender and his father: the late Ernest Fleetwood Lavender.

Surviving are: wife: Dolores Brownlee Lavender, Social Circle; daughter: Apryl Patton Carter, Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby and Angie Lavender, Jackson, Barry Lavender, Monroe, Ernie Lavender, Gainesville and John and Dale Patton, Monroe; mother: Nell Flynt Lavender, Orangeburg, SC; sister: Barbara Welch, Orangeburg, SC; 10 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Friday, June 2 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Joyce C. Young officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Debbie Russell

Debbie Russell, of Oxford, died May 27, 2006 at the age of 54.

The daughter of the late Arthur Eugene Cook, Mrs. Russell was a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church. She loved yard work, junkin, her job at the Newton County Library, her dogs, Louis, Lillie and Cocoa, and especially her grandkids and family.

Surviving Mrs. Russell are her husband: Rick Russell; sons and daughters-in-law: Daniel and Leigh Anne Russell, Loganville; Chris and Kimberly Russell, Monroe; Clayton Russell, Walnut Grove; mother: Ruby Morris Cook, Huntsville, AL; grandchildren: Matthew Russell, Madisen Russell, Landon Russell; sisters and brother-in-law: Donna Carpenter, Keller, TX; Hope and Hugh Folds, Jarrettsville, MD; brothers and sisters-in-law: Mike and Sharon Cook, Denver, CO; Steve and Sally Cook, Huntsville, AL; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Russell were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 31 at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Burnett officiating and interment followed at Carter Cemetery.

Caldwell & Cowan was in charge of the arrangements.

Doris H. Hawk

Doris (Dot) H. Hawk, 83, of Monroe died May 27, 2006.

A native and life long resident of Walton County, she was a daughter of the late Paul A. Hawk and Martha Williams Hawk. The widow of Vernon R. Hawk, she was a retired employee of the Monroe/Walton Mill. She had attended the Walton County Schools, was a member of the Union Chapel United Methodist Church and was a member of the W M U and the SOAM.

Funeral services were held May 31, 2006 in Union Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Laycock and the Rev. Bonnie Peters officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Peters, Rodney Peters, Alex Adcock, Chip McGaughey, and Butch Springer.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Gail and Billy Allen; grandson and granddaugher-in-law: Robb and Jennifer Allen; sisters: Rebecca H. Hawk and Minnelle H Adcock all of Monroe; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial may be made to the Union Chapel Vision Fund c/o Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 2625 Pannell Rd., Monroe, GA 30655.

Archie Lynn Peters

Archie Lynn Peters, 50 of Monroe died on May 25, 2006.

He was born in Walton County on July 20, 1955 to the late George Archie Peters and the late Johnnie Ruth McClellan Peters.

Surviving are: wife: Mary Jayne Peters, Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Andrea and Scott Miley, Monroe; sisters and brothers-in-law: Kathy and Roger Williams, Monroe and Cyndie and Mike Bullock, Monroe; brother: Perry Peters, Monroe; grandchild: Camden Miley, Monroe.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 28 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Malcom and the Rev. Glen Money officiating. Interment followed at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery.

Roy Douglas Reynolds

Roy Douglas Reynolds, 73, of Cleveland, GA. died Thursday May 25, 2006 at Northeast GA. Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Reynolds was born in Walton County the son of the late Roy R. and Annetta Lackey Reynolds and was receded in death by a brother Johnny G. Reynolds. He was a Verteran serving in the U.S. Marines and a member of Cleveland First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lillie Reynolds of Cleveland; sons & daughters-in-law, Danny Michael & Rita Reynolds of Lawrenceville, Jeffrey Scott & Cindy Renolds of Snellville; son Christopher Kerry Reynolds of Monroe; granddaughter, Cassie Marie Reynolds of Snellville; grandson, Michael David Reynolds of Lawrenceville; foster granddaugher, Kristen Hailey Iona of Snellville; sister, Dorothy Louise Thorn of Chamblee; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Sunday May 28, 2006 at Cleveland First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Massey and the Rev. Dennis Turner officiated. Interment was held in Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

Contributions may be made to the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes, P.O. BOx 1000, Stockbridge, GA. 30281-9878 or Cleveland First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 250 Cleveland, GA. 30528 or the Gideons.

Janice Diane Andrews

Janice Diane Andrews, age 64, of Monroe died Wednesday, May 24, 2006.

A memorial service will be held Sunday June 25, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Social Circle. The Rev. Don Malcom will officiate.

She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Social Circle. Mrs. Andrews was a Pink Lady at Walton Regional Medical Center, Monroe. She was preceded in death by her parents C.W. and Henrietta Brooks and her brother Denis Brooks.

She is survived by Husband: Wayne Andrews, of Monroe. Sons: Billy Wright, Jefferson and Randy Rountree, of Burnsville, N.C. Brother: Mike Brooks of Fair Play Sisters: Jackie Hanson of Fair Play, Wylene Beale of Clayton, Pat Bailey of Monroe, Nancy Myers of Loganville, 3 Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
