Doris Whitley Chancey, 88 of Eatonton, was born on Sept. 11, 1919 and died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008 at her home on Lake Oconee. The services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Eatonton. The Rev. Bill Kitchen officiated and burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe.

James W. “Wink” Johnson, 81 of Monroe died Feb. 7, 2008. A native of Walton County, he was the son of the late Walter Lee Johnson, Sr. and Emma Johnson Johnson, He was retired from the Monore-Walton Mill where he taught loom fixing and was employed at one time with Liberty national Life Insurance Co. and Colquitt Home Builders. He was a veteran of W.W.II having served in the U.S. Army.

Angie McCart, age 48 of Loganville passed away Wed., April 30, 2008.

Funeral services were held Sat. May 3, 2008 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Minister Lester Waters officiated. Burial was in Melwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, GA.

She was a Kennel Supervisor for Gwinnett Animal Control. Mrs. McCart was preceded in death by her daughter: Amanda Lynn McCart and is survived by her husband: Mike McCart of Loganville; daughter & son-in-law: Amber & Justin Beal of Eastman, GA; parents: R.C. & Allene Foster of Loganville; brothers: Robert Foster & Michael Foster both of Loganville; sisters: Dot Quick of Lawrenceville, Tonya Stumpf of Loganville; mother-in-law: Katherine McCart of Loganville; several nieces & Nephews.

Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 670 Tom Brewer Rd. Loganville, GA was in charge of the arrangements.

Bobby Parham Sr.

Bobby Parham Sr., 70, of Monroe died on May 1, 2008. He was born in Walton County to the late Susie Belle Malcom Parham and the late Ollie Parham.

Surviving are wife: Linda Parham of Monroe; sons: Bobby Parham Jr. of Monroe and Tim and Megan Parham of Atlanta; daughter: Sandy and Craig Tracy of Conyers; step-daughter: Angie and Norman Smith of Monroe; sisters: Betty and Garland Breedlove of Good Hope and Ann Peters of Good Hope; brother: Jerry and Kay Parham of Monroe; sister-in-law: Mae Bell Parham of Monroe and Nellie Jo Parham of Monroe; 6 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 3rd at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Reverend Brian Armour officiating. Interment followed at Good Hope Christian Church Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Kimberly Amanda Chambless

Kimberly Amanda Chambless went home on Thursday, May 1, 2008 after complications from a Double Lung Transplant. She was born in Camilla, Ga on July 5, 1987 and survived by her parents: Robin and Mark Black of Monroe and Kirk and Vicki Chambless of Elberton along with sister: Jamie Leigh Chambless of Athens and step sisters and brothers: Erika and Mike Swofford of Jackson County, Derek Greene of Jackson County and Nick and Gypsy Black of Atlanta; grandparents: Sue and Henry Chambless of Elberton, Thelma Vandiver of Elberton and the late Carl and Nell McDaniel of Walton County; aunts and uncles: Jackie and Phil Ivey of Monroe, Shirley and David Harris of Camilla, Bo and Renee Chambless of Ellijay and David McDaniel of Walton County; cousins: Phillip Ivey, Chad and BJ Harris and Dawn, Brittany and Joey McDaniel and her beloved dog, Rudy.

Kim was an active member of Bible Baptist Church in Monroe and loved her Awana Children. She was a 2007 graduate of Monroe High School. She was a wonderful daughter and sister and will be greatly missed.

A Homecoming Celebration at Bible Baptist Church was held on Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Greg and the Rev. Stephen Butler officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Memory Gardens.

Ed Farmer

Ed Farmer, 67, husband of Dean Farmer, died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center.

Born in Clarke County, Ed had lived in Oconee County most of his life. He was the son of the late James Edward and Frances Hardy Farmer. He was the owner of Farmer Grading Inc and a member of Grace Fellowship Church. He served his country in the US Coast Guard.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his son and daughter-in-law: Glenn and Lynn Farmer of Bogart; daughter and son-in-law: Janet and Todd Green of Bogart; sister: Mary Hardigree of Bogart; brother: Bobby Farmer of Bogart; grandchildren: Brandy Hamlin, Eli Crawford, Victoria Farmer, Lindsey Farmer and Drew Farmer.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 4, 2008 at 2PM at Grace Fellowship Church with the Rev. Tony Vismor and the Rev. Jerry Varndo officiating. Burial will follow at Oconee Memorial Park. Visitation will be Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Richard Griffiths, Alan Graham, Ken Jones, Gary Hammond, Tim Crow and Mercer Cox.

Lord & Stephens, WEST is in charge of arrangements.

Lillie Mae Lowe

Lillie Mae Lowe, age 93 of Springfield, TN. formerly of Monroe, passed away April 29, 2008.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, 2008 in the Chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home, Monroe. Mr. Charles Taylor & Mr. Gary Hudson officiated. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Christian Church Cemetery, Monroe.

Mrs. Lowe was a member of Church of Christ and preceded in death by her husband: William Bedford Lowe; son: David Wayne Lowe. She is survived by daughters: Diane Henry of Springfield TN., Virginia Taylor of Charlotte, NC; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors, 823 E. Spring Street, Monroe, GA. was in charge of the arrangements.

Felton “Red” Smith

Felton “Red” Smith age 80 of Monroe, died on April 25, 2008. He was born in Morgan County on Sept.14, 1927 to the late Jim Daniel Smith and the late Clemmie Deaton Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, the late Patsy Thurman Smith.

Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law: Rebecca and Terry Cover of Conyers; sons and daughtersin-law: David and Linda Smith of Loganville, and Philip and Cindy Smith of Loganville; four Grandchildren, and two Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services were held on Sunday April 27 at 2p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Smith officiating. Interment followed at Buckhead City Cemetery.

Alice Hammonds

Alice Hammonds, of Loganville, died April 16, 2008, at Walton Regional Medical Center, at the age of 89. Mrs. Hammonds enjoyed traveling, collecting dolls and snowmen, and loved spending time helping family members or anyone she came in contact with. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Hammonds was preceded in death by her husband: Howard W. Hammonds.

Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law: Vickie Rice and Wayne White of Loganville; grandchildren: Robert Shannon Rice of Marietta, Tina Marie Cummins of Lawrenceville; Jimmy Wayne White of Covington, Joel Richard White of Nevada; great grandchildren: Lauren Cummins, Cameron Cummins, Alex Cummins, Sara White; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hammonds were held Sunday, April 20 at 4 p.m. at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home. Interment followed in Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Clara Brooks Bolton

Clara Brooks Bolton, 86, of Monroe died on April 17, 2008 She was born Clara Belle Dunahoo to John and Beulah Watson Dunahoo on Aug. 22, 1921, she is the last of the eight siblings to go to be with Jesus.

She married her first love, Harold "Pete" Brooks in Spring on April 27, 1941. She and Pete had four children, Bob, Jayne, Carol and David Brooks.

Clara and Pete opened Brooks Bakery in 1950 which became the "place to be" for coffee and pastries for 23 years. She and Pete worked long hours at the bakery but still made time for football games, basketball games, or Little League games to watch her children. She worked concession stands, volunteered for Scout activities, drum and bugle corps functions or anything else the kids were involved in. Clara was a charter member of the local Pilot Club. She was president of the Walton County united Church Women's Association for several terms.

She was very active in church as long as health allowed and was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church which originated in the bakery facility. She taught Sunday School along with Pete for many years. She attended Mercer's Extension Department of Christian Education along with Pete and successfully graduated. She was a member of the Eastern Star for 56 years.

She was advanced through the ranks to Worthy Matron of the local Eastern Star Order, she was one of the first groups of "Grey" lady volunteers at Walton County Hospital and transitioned through the "Pink" ladies to the "Ladies' Auxilliary" for over 40 years. At the 1999 Auxiliary awards luncheon, she had 22,374 career volunteer hours to her credit with the hospital.

Clara embarked on yet another venture after Pete's death as she worked with mentally challenged boys and girls for over ten years in various state health care half way facilities trying to train them for everyday life outside a mental hospital.

Some 25 years after Pete's death, Clara added another love to her family when she married Hugh Bolton.

Surviving are husband: Hugh Bolton of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law: Jayne and Alan Bolton of Monroe, Carol B. and Gene Fiala of Robertsdale, AL; sons and daughter-in-law: Bob Brooks of Monroe, David and Obie Brooks of Colbert; step sons and daughters-in-law: Reverend James and Debbie Bolton of Monroe, Bobby and Jane Bolton of Ellenwood; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 pm on Saturday, April 19th at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Byran Amour and the Rev. Glen Money officiating. Interment followed at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn Doster Peters

Evelyn Doster Peters, age 82 of Monroe passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2008.

Funeral Services were held on Tues. April 22, 2008 at Campton United Methodist Church. The Rev. Sean Rezek officiated. Burial was in Doster Cemetery, Campton.

A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mrs. Peters was a member of Campton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harry W. Peters in 2002 and is survived by daughter & son-in-law: Priscilla A. & Frankie Derrell Adams of Campton; sister & brother-in-law: Jean & Leon Norton of Conyers; grandchildren: Dr. Jeremy T. & Jennifer Adams of Campton, August & Chad Edwards of Mt. Airy, Natalie & Michael Crawford of Cornelia; great-grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jacob, Joseph, Joshua, & James Adams, Chloe Evelyn & Michael Thomas Crawford; several nieces & nephews.
