Mrs. Martha Dixon Bryan
Mrs. Martha Dixon Bryan, 87, of Edgefield, S.C., entered into rest on Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at Edgefield County Hospital.

Mrs. Bryan was a native of Avera, and was the daughter of the late George and Florrie Gibbs Dixon. She was a member of Berea Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 55 years and served as the church’s first hostess. She was retired from Riegal/Mt. Vernon Mills.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010, at Berea Baptist Church, with burial at Little Stevens Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Rhett Bryan Sr.; daughter, Mary Louise Lesesne Mitchell; and two brothers, Ralph and Gibbs Dixon.

Survivors include two sons, Ernest R. “Bubba” Bryan Jr. (Penny), Edgefield, and Dixon B. Bryan (Dianne), Ninety Six, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 14 grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Berea Baptist Church Building Fund, 508 Bausket St., Edgefield, S.C., 29824, or to Little Stevens Creek Cemetery Fund, 1146 Hwy 378 East, Edgefield, S.C., 29824.

Edgefield Mercantile Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ernest Eugene Hill
Mr. Ernest Eugene Hill of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital. Mr. Hill faithfully served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in July of 1963. He was the son of the late Ernest and Videlia Hill. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Augusta. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Mary Agnes Kitchens Hobbs
Mrs. Mary Agnes Kitchens Hobbs, 82, entered into rest Friday, April 30, 2010, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Hobbs was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in the Wrens area since 1968. She was a homemaker and member of Zoar UMC where she was a member of the Faith Sunday School Class, a former Sunday school teacher and treasurer.

Funeral services were held at Zoar Methodist Church on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at 3 p.m., with Jack McCorkle and Rev. Todd Upchurch officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Manalcus Hobbs; parents, Beulah Stapleton and William Thomas Kitchens; and brother, Kenneth Kitchens.

Survivors include her brother, Ernest Kitchens (Ruby); a sister, Jennell Clark, Dearing; a sister-in-law, Pat Kitchens, Thomson; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials may be made to Zoar United Methodist Church, c/o Frankie Kitchens, 3033 Quail Farm Rd SE, Thomson, GA 30824.

Mr. Ike Johnson Jr.
Mr. Ike Johnson Jr., 92, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, April 26, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Union Bethel Baptist Church, Louisville.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Johnson, Midville.

Garrer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rudolph “Rudy” McCorkle
Mr. Rudolph “Rudy” McCorkle, 80, of Gibson entered into rest on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at his residence.

Born Aug. 26, 1929, in McDuffie County, Mr. McCorkle resided in Glascock County since 1957. He was a member of Silver Run Baptist Church in Harlem and attended Magnolia Baptist Church in Gibson. He was a retired truck driver with Bowman Transportation Company.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2010, at Magnolia Baptist Church, with Rev. Adrian Burrell officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ellie Whitaker McCorkle; four brothers, Watson, Rance, Robert and Edward; and one sister, Katherine Allen.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Irma “Polly” Usry McCorkle; one daughter, Dianne (Jim) Hall of Thomson; one step-grandchild, Misty Hall; and one great-step-grandchild, Savannah Hall, both of Fort Mill, S.C.; two sisters, Rubye Wells of Harlem, and Jean Holloway of Martinez.

Pallbearers were Joe Dean Usry, Jody Usry, Mike Chance, Warren Hart, Les Newsome and Steve Frew.

Memorials may be made to the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Louis Swint, 290 Swint Road, Gibson, Ga. 30810.

Mrs. Corinne Marion Newman Bailey
Mrs. Corinne Marion Newman Bailey, 95, of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, May 3, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Bailey was born in Jefferson County, to the late Leon and Mary Stewart Newman. She retired from Roses Department Store and was of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors, with Rev. Marion Jay officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bailey; and a son Donald Orander.

Survivors include her daughters, Marion Howard of Augusta, and Nell Durocher of Milwaukee, Wis.; son, Harold Orander of Beaufort, S.C.; ten grandchildren, 14 great- grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Trinity Hospice, 2803 Wrightsboro Road Ste. #38, Augusta, GA 30904, or to the Homebound Ministry at Fleming Baptist Church, 3027 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, GA 30906.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Kitchens Barnes
Mrs. Mary Kitchens Barnes, 86, of Matthews entered into rest on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at University Hospital.

Mrs. Barnes was a native of Augusta, where she was an operator for Southern Bell for many years and retired with over 30 years of service as office manager for Augusta Mill Supply. She was a member of Druid Park Avenue Bible Church.

Graveside services were held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Augusta, with Rev. Hal Hodgens officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Barnes Sr.; and her parents, Clementina Cook and Leonard F. Kitchens.

Survivors include her two children, Charles R. Barnes Jr., Lilburn, and Carol L. Barnes, Tucson, Ariz.; sister, Margaret Powner, Dickson, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Andrew Barnes, Kathryn Barnes Sanchez and Jillian Barnes, all of Lilburn; one great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Sanchez; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Memorial donations may be made to Keysville Nursing Home, PO Box 220, Keysville, GA 30816.

Mr. Glenwood H. “Tug” Hadden Sr.
Mr. Glenwood H. “Tug” Hadden Sr., 77, of Stapleton entered into rest on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Hadden was born and raised in Stapleton, Jefferson County. After serving for two years in the Navy, he returned to Georgia, living in Augusta and working for SCE&G.; He retired from SCE&G; with over 35 years of service after which he moved back to Stapleton. He was a past member of Southgate Baptist Church in Augusta and a current member of Reedy Creek Baptist Church. He was a past commander of American Legion #229 and the current interim director of Kilpatrick Disaster Relief of SBC.

Funeral services were held at Reedy Creek Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at 3:30 p.m., with Rev. John Jenkins officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary E. Davis and Ben F. Hadden; and his sister, Patricia A. Wall.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mildred Hobbs Hadden; four children, Glenwood H. Hadden Jr. (Julie) of Grovetown, Robin H. Cunningham (Pete) and Tony L. Hadden (Tina), all of Augusta, and Ricky F. Hadden of Columbia, Md.; sister, Marlene McDonald (Bill) of Augusta; 13 grandchildren, Stephanie, Tricia, Alicia, Jamey, Brandie, Christopher, Brendon, Nick, Tristen, Erica, Justin, Benjamin and Julie; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Pallbearers were Billy Dye, Alan Holley, Chick Newsome, Melvin Todd, Chris Usry and Lamar Williams.

Honorary pallbearers were members of American Legion # 229 and the Disaster Relief. Memorials may be made to Disaster Relief Fund, c/o Reedy Creek Baptist Church, 1128 Reedy Creek Church Rd, Stapleton, GA 30823.

Miss Lucy Johnson, 87, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, May 3, 2010.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Union Bethel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Etta M. “Josephine” Lindsey
Mrs. Etta M. “Josephine” Lindsey, 80, of Gibson entered into rest on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

She was a seamstress.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Mill Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Jacky Downs officiating.

Survivors include her husband, J.H. Lindsey; two daughters, Jennie Veazey and Julia Williams, both of Gibson; three sons, John (Cindy) Snider of Gibson, Joel Snider of Jackson, S.C., and Rodney Lindsey of Kansas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Lavin Mason of Sandersville; and one brother, Wyncell Johnson of Sandersville.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Fredrick James
Mr. Fredrick James, 32, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, March 18, 2011, at University Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. James was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Dorothy James and Willie James “Buddy” Carr. He attended the Jefferson County School System, and worked as a cosmetologist, wedding designer and an interior decorator. He was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Jones Grove Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include his siblings, Donnell James, Curtis James, Tawanda James and Mozella (Bruce) Grant, Janice C Reaves, Jerome Carr, Christopher Carr, James (Phyllis) Carr of Louisville; aunts, Elizabeth Washington and Ella Mae Washington of Louisville; uncles, Clarence James of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Charles James of Los Angles, Calif., Doc Dale James of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews, Carlos James, Cierra James, Quintnay Young, Bryant James, Jerome James, Markies Heggs, Sebrina James, Shavondrea Grant, Xavier Mitchell, Donnell Mitchell, Jarvis James, Jaquetta Tarver, Ashley Reaves, Milton Reaves Jr., Jordan Carr, Brandon Carr, Jasmine Carr, Jamie Carr, Treyvon Carr, Jalencya C. (Brandon) Riley and Shalencya Carr; nine great-nieces and -nephews; and a host of friends.

Mr. Tommie Lee McBride
Mr. Tommie Lee McBride of Kissimmee, Fla., entered into rest on March 17, 2011.

Mr. McBride was born on March 7, 1941, in Louisville to the late Luvenia Washington and George McBride. Early in life he became a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson County High School. After graduation he moved to New York and furthered his education at New York Community College and received an associates degree in applied science. He continued his studies at Herbert H. Lehman Collge and earned a bachelor of arts in accounting. In New York, he joined three Masonic Temples and was the Worshipful Master of Saint John’s Masonic Lodge No. 29. After retiring at 54, he and his wife, Blanche, moved to Kissimmee, Fla., where he volunteered at Osceola Region Medication Center in the pharmacy. He was a patient advocate at the Celebration Dialysis Center for three years.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Woodlawn Baptist Church, Louisville, with Pastor Rev. Carl Simmons and Rev. Charles Washington officiating.

Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Blanche McBride; children, Eric McBride Sr. (Elizabeth), Tonya Bynoe (Albert), Darryl McBride and Cynthia Shaheed (Lavan); sister, Georgia Bell Brown of Louisville; uncle, Thomas Cunningham Jr. of Louisville; eight grandchildren, Olivia, Oasis, Eric Jr., Ryan, Cherisse, Tamecia, LaTisha and Malikah; one great-grandchild; one nephew, Sterlon Brown (Monique); and cousins and friends.

Pallbearers were members of Louisville Masonic District No. 22.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Woodlawn Baptist Church and the Jefferson County High School class of 1959.

Mr. William Randolph “Randy” McFerrin
Mr. William Randolph “Randy” McFerrin, 54, of Augusta entered into rest on Monday, March 21, 2011, at University Hospital.

Mr. McFerrin was a lifelong member of National Hills Baptist Church, where he was a member of the choir and the hospitality committee. He was a member of the Local 150 Plumbers and Steamfitters. Mr. McFerrin was a graduate of Westside High School. He was a master archer and also an expert roller-skater.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Rev. Joel Conner officiating. Interment followed in Westview Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Barefield McFerrin; two sons, William Randolph McFerrin II of North Augusta, and Timothy Andrew McFerrin (Stephanie Pierce) of Aiken; mother, Martha Green of Augusta; sisters, Marsha Reese (Jimmy) of Mitchell, and Kathryn Bell (Roger) of Edgefield, S.C.; stepson, Jeffery Rollins (Renee Williams) of Martinez; granddaughter, Paige Rollins; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Huffman, Mike Brocato, Tom Shook, Frank Vaughn, Charles Hardigree, Richard Johnson and Steve Huffman.

Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Local 150 Plumbers and Steamfitters.
