Mrs. Willie Vause Shipes
Mrs. Willie Vause Shipes, 91, of Garfield entered into rest on Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Jenkins County Hospital.

Mrs. Shipes was born in Jefferson County, a homemaker and a Methodist.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Hebron Cemetery in Garfield.

Survivors include her son, James Thompson of Panama City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Crowe-Fields Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lillie Burton Gibbons
Mrs. Lillie Burton Gibbons entered into rest on Thursday, July 22, 2010.

Mrs. Gaddis was a native of Louisville, and a resident of Tampa, Fla., for more than 50 years. She was born April 14, 1913, to the late Pompie and Mary Johnson Burton. She married Murray Gibbons on March 3, 1934, and they were married 73 years at the time of his death in 2008. She was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church, Fair and Honest Society, Morning Star Society, Zion Wheel Society and Reliable Social Club.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Ray Williams Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dwayne K. Gaddis officiating. Funeral services were also held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Gibbons; sisters, Julia Burton, Lula Gibbons and Maggie Moye.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgia Moye of Tampa, Fla.; two children reared as her own, Vonetta (Skoochee) Jamabo of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Thomas of Dayton, Ohio; brother, Isaac Burton of Brunswick; grandchild, Aletris Floyd (Eric Sr.) of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Viola Gibbons of Louisville; brother-in-law, Rev. Asa Heggs of Roselle, N.J.; nieces, Lillie Kemp, Dorothy Moye, Diane Ikeokwu and Shaquera Jackson, all of Tampa, Fla., Gracie Jones of Oakland, Calif., Mary Ferguson of Atlanta, Vinnie Pinkston, Linda Thomas, Levora Thomas, Ruthie Gamble, Eva Gibbons, Gloria Gibbons, Patricia Thompson and Mattie Thompson, all of Louisville, Julia Gibbons, Bernice McCall and Dei-Lewon Moye, all of Augusta, Daisy Thompson and Rita Thompson, both of Newark, N.J., Lanell Gibbons of Jacksonville, Fla., and Betty Gibbons of Rochester, N.Y.; nephews, Willie Moye, Durell Moye, Rickey Thomas, Eric Floyd Jr. and Mason Floyd, all of Tampa, Fla., Jonas Gamble, Johnnie Thomas, Elbert Thomas, Melvin Thomas and George Gibbons, all of Louisville, Toney Ferguson, T.J. Ferguson and Harry Gibbons, all of Atlanta, Wilson Gibbons, Johnny Gibbons, Darryl Thompson and Joseph Grant, all of Augusta, Rev. Robert Gibbons of Brunswick, and Darren Kitchen of Bartow; and friend, Oral Edwards.

Mr. Alvin G. Giesbrecht
Mr. Alvin G. Giesbrecht, 88, of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital, Louisville.

Born to the late Lena Voth and Gerhard W. Giesbrecht, he was raised and attended school in Montezuma, Kan. He married in 1946 and in the summer of 1957, moved his family to Davisboro, where he took up the occupation of dairy farming. His retirement years were spent in Jefferson County near the Pinecrest Mennonite Church where he was a member.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Pinecrest Mennonite Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Ensz Giesbrecht; five sons, Gerald (Audrey), Charles (Martha), Rodney (Melva), Verle (Grace) and Jeffrey (Priscilla); two daughters, Marilyn Koehn (Leroy) and Luanne Holdeman (Lloyd); 26 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bertice Oglesby Roberts Hendley
Mrs. Bertice Oglesby Roberts Hendley, 92, of Canoochee entered into rest on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Glendale Nursing Home in Wadley, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Hendley was a native of Emanuel County, a homemaker, and the oldest member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Eastern Star.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Union Grove United Methodist Church, with Rev. Terry Joiner and Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Schley Roberts and Grady Hendley; parents, Ed and Maude Wiggins Oglesby; brothers, Buddy Oglesby, J.D. Oglesby Sr., Willie Oglesby, Marlow Oglesby and Franklin Oglesby; and sisters, Pansy “Sis” Johnson, Thelma Lanier and Annie Wiggins.

Survivors include one sister, Mae Belle Johnson of Garfield.

Pallbearers were Timothy Woods, Adam Oglesby, Tom Oglesby, J.D. Oglesby, Jody Hatcher and Jeff Johnson.

Mrs. Mary “Ma Mae” Alice Huff
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary “Ma Mae” Alice Huff, 93, of Wrens were held on Friday, July, 30, 2010, at 4 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Pastor Rev. M.G. Ephraim Sr. as eulogist, Rev. Hosea Terrell, Ret. P.E., presiding. Interment was in Sugarhill Cemetery, Wrens.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ann Huff, Lorene Smith and Sara Wynn, all of Wrens; brother, Roy Boatright, Augusta; grandson, Marvin (Jackie) Huff II of Wrens; three stepchildren, Merlease Mathis, Wrens, Cathy Birt and Victor Birt, both of Matthews; grandchildren, Demetria Wynn, Alesha Hobbs and Michael Sanders; three great-great-grandchildren, Yolandis, Davien and Cherica Hobbs; six great-grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; godson, Bernard Roberson; cousin, Dillie McGahee-Edwards; three goddaughters, Betty Robinson, Joan Cummings and Patsy (Lee Edgar) Johnson; friends, Patricia Blake, Carrie Davis, Carolyn Terrell, Rosa Gibbons and Ellen Farmer; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Miss. Rosa Lee Washington Jacobs
Miss Rosa Lee Washington Jacobs, of Long Island City, N.Y., formerly of Wrens, entered into rest on July 23, 2010.

She was the daughter of Adolphus and Rose Washington.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 7 p.m. at Community Church of Astoria, Astoria, N.Y.

Deacon Lawrence Lewis
Deacon Lawrence Lewis of Stapleton entered into rest on Saturday, July 24, 2010, in Louisville.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Harts Grove Baptist Church in Stapleton, with Rev. Willie L. Jones officiating. Burial was in the Braddy Family Cemetery in Bartow.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Braddy Lewis of Stapleton; one son, Edwin Lewis of Atlanta; stepdaughter, Connie Walker of Bartow; one sister, Gracie Anderson of Los Vegas, Nev.; one grandchild; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Harts Grove Baptist Church.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Nettie McKinnie Moye
Mrs. Nettie McKinnie Moye entered into rest on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at University Select Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Moye was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Matilda Tremble and Linder McKinnie. She was married to the late Odell Moye. She was educated in the public schools of Jefferson County and worked at Forstmann Manufacturing Company for many years where she later retired. She was a member of Pierce Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the Missionary Board and the Usher Ministry.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Pierce Grove Baptist Church at 11 a.m. and Pierce Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Johnny Ray Samson officiating.

Survivors include her children, Cassandra Moye Payton, Martinez, and Calvin Moye of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Courtney (Stephanie) Moye of Bartow, Xavier Moye, Marikee Moye, William Payton III, Shakeria Payton, Shamiya Payton, all of Martinez; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ezra M. Flournoy and Claudia McKinnie, both of Wadley; one brother, Elex McKinnie of Louisville; two godsons, Rodney McKinnie and Jerome Flournoy, both of Wadley; sisters-in-law, Annie McKinnie of Bartow, Judy Hicks of Atlanta, Mattie (Isiah) Flournoy, Eunice (John) Parker, Betty J. Goldberry, all of Delaware, Nellie (Johnny) Hilton of Columbia, S.C., Gloria (James) Seays of Detroit, Mich., and Elnora McGruder of Louisville; brothers-in-law, Theotis (Ruth) Moye and Grady (Winnie Bell) Moye; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Raymond Patrick Neveu
Mr. Raymond Patrick Neveu, 73, of Monroe, N.C., entered into rest on Friday, July 23, 2010, at his home.

Mr. Neveu was born Dec. 16, 1936, in Houston, Texas, a son of the late James Roy Neveu and the late Catherine Elizabeth Scanlan Neveu.

Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at McEwen Funeral Home. Interment will be private at a later date.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Brenda Neveu.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Landrum (Mike) of Wrens, and Lisa Burgess (Brian) of Monroe, N.C.; one son, Raymond Anthony Neveu (Vicki) of Wrens; four grandchildren, Christy Vaughner (Joseph) of Wrens, Kayla Landrum of Wrens, Steven Neveu of Monroe, N.C., and Mark Neveu of Monroe, N.C.; four step-grandchildren, Jasmine Vaughner, Ja’Toria Irby, Joseph Vaughner Jr. and Jo’Darrius Vaughner, all of Wrens; one great-grandchild, Brianna Landrum of Wrens; and one brother, Hyde Neveu (Joan) of Houston, Texas.

Mr. Robert Durham Prescott
Mr. Robert Durham Prescott, 90, of Gibson entered into rest on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Prescott was born to the late Claudia Dye and Robert P. Prescott in Jefferson County. He retired from Fort Gordon as supervisor of heavy-duty maintenance equipment .

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Stan Littleton officiating. Interment followed at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum, Augusta.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Mary Chalker Reese Prescott and Lillian Mays Prescott.

Survivors include his three children, Lorraine P. Nutter (Don), Plainsville, Mich., Marian Lamb (Tom), Wrens, and Merv Reese (Ginger), Thomson; brother, Eugene “Gene” Prescott; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Pallbearers were B.J. Thompson, Charles Harper, Olin Mathis, Robert E. Prescott, Moses Griswell Jr. and Winnard Chalker.

Mrs. Betty Gail Cheely Blue
Mrs. Betty Gail Cheely Blue, 50, of Sandersville entered into rest on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2010, in the Washington County Regional Medical Center in Sandersville.

Mrs. Blue was a lifelong resident of Washington County, the daughter of the late Thomas Ray Cheely. She was a homemaker and a member of the A-H Hunting Club.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, in the Washington County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Sandersville.

Survivors include her husband, Jeffrey Thomas Blue of Sandersville; daughter, Amanda Michelle Blue Simpson of Bartow; son, Jeffrey Lamar Blue of Sandersville; mother, Betty Emmaline Smith Cheely of Sandersville; sister, Doris (Mike) Kitchens of Sandersville; five grandchildren, Jeremy Eugene Simpson, Nathaniel Raygan Simpson, Samantha Simpson, Gracy Simpson and Mary Elizabeth McNeely.

Mrs. Josie Elizabeth Haddox Casdorph
Mrs. Josie Elizabeth Haddox Casdorph, 92, entered into rest on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Gibson.

Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, in the Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel, with Rev. Julia McKinley officiating. Interment of cremated remains followed at 1 p.m. at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.

Survivors include her son, Larry Edward Casdorph; daughters, Deborah Kay Casdorph Blume and Earlene Casdorph Vittone; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Frank Haddox; and one sister, Lennie Upshaw.

Mrs. Magnolia Farmer
Mrs. Magnolia Farmer, 49, of Wrens entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. at House of Faith Holiness Church, Wrens, with Pastor Dorothy Nelson officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Louisville.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Farmer; son, Maurice (Shatgra) Farmer; three daughters, Ieshia (Buddy) Bunyon and Lakeisha Jenkins, all of Wrens, Youlinda Jenkins of Graniteville, S.C.; two sisters, Pinky Bunyon of Waynesboro, and Luevenia Parish of Hollywood, Fla.; two brothers, Roger Jenkins and Albert Jenkins, both of Waynesboro; friend, Annette Whigham of Wrens; and grandchildren.

Mrs. Marjorie Hicks
Mrs. Marjorie Hicks, 86, of Fairfax, Va., formerly of Louisville, entered into rest on Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, in the Sunrise of Fair Oaks assisted living in Fairfax, Va.

A native of Gray, Mrs. Hicks was a daughter of Thomas Cleveland Morton and Julia Powell Conn Morton. She retired from the Fairfax County Public School System after many years as an elementary school teacher. For 25 years she was a member of Louisville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Jefferson Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Graveside funeral services were held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010, in the Louisville City Cemetery, with Rev. David Hibberts officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond E. Hicks; and sisters, Julia Conn Harvey and Henrietta Morton.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas Raymond (Mary) Hicks of Eugene, Ore., and John Melvin (Kathy) Hicks of Amelia Island, Fla.; three daughters, Cynthia H. (Peter) Simer of Faribault, Minn., Louise H. Porter of Herndon, Va., and Barbara H. (Peter) Boyle of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
