Mrs. Frances Gilmer Jones
Mrs. Frances Gilmer Jones, 76, of Warrenton entered into rest on Nov. 16, 2010.

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong resident of Warren County, and was the daughter of the late Wallace D. Gilmer and the late Myrtice Smith Gilmer. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Brier Creek Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, 2010, at Little Brier Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Dunaway officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Jones.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam McGahee (Ricky), Tucson, Ariz., and Judy Shelton, Warrenton; grandchildren, Lisa Waugh (Steve), Woodstock, Brent Jackson (Jessica), Gibson, Clark McGahee, Lawrenceville, Ben McGahee (Ellie), Tucson, Ariz.; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jay Jones, Dave Gilmer, David Gilmer, J.R. Gilmer, Joey Gilmer and Michael Gilmer.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Daisy Fleming Smith
Mrs. Daisy Fleming Smith, 76, of Grovetown entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.

Mrs. Smith was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Willie Rogers and Viola Mae Hatcher Fleming and the widow of the late Willie Albert Smith. She was a member of the Spring Bethel AME Church, where she served on the choir and the Missionary Board. She retired in 1994 from Delilah Manufacturing Company after more than 20 years of service.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at 1 p.m. at Spring Bethel AME Church. Interment was in the Spring Bethel Benevolent Society.

Survivors include her children, Karen (Charles) Mack of Grovetown, and Antoinette (Ken) Campbell of Atlanta; sister, Matilda (Richard) Cox of Dania, Fla.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, L. C. (Evelyn) Smith of Louisville, and Annie L. Brown of Atlanta; grandchildren, Charna Mack and Ravan Mack of Grovetown, Farrell Turner of South Carolina, and Brenton T. Turner of Louisville; a host of nieces, nephews including one, Willie Roger “Billy” Seafus of Florida; and cousins, other relatives and friends.

Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Marvin Eugene Wren
Mr. Marvin Eugene Wren, 84, of Nashville, Tenn., entered into rest Nov. 11, 2010.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of Woodlawn Dignity Hall on Monday, Nov. 15 with Rev. John Carpenter officiating.

A heartwarming eulogy was given by his grandson, Joshua Baxter. Interment followed in the Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. Wren was a native of Jefferson County and the son of George Taylor Wren and Will Alice Fleming Wren.

Mr. Wren served in the Navy during World War II. He moved to Nashville in 1947. He was a member of Arlington Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and a member of the Builders Sunday School Class. He worked with Associate Finance Company for 30 plus years.

Mr. Wren is survived by his wife of 64 years Syble Fulks Wren; daughter, Jean (Zeland) Baxter; son, Mark O. (Deborah) Wren; sister, Louise Wren Myers; brother, James Wren; grandchildren, Stephanie Wren, Joshua Baxter and Nathan Baxter.

The family received friends on Sunday, Nov. 14 at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m..

Mr. Jack Wall
Mr. Jack Wall, 64, of Orangeburg, S.C., entered into rest on Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, in the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, S.C.

Mr. Wall was a native of McDuffie County, but had lived in Elleree, S.C., for several years. He was a carpenter.

A graveside memorial service was held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, in the Wrens City Cemetery, with the Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating.

Survivors include his four sisters, Margart Wall Frauhiger, Thomson, Norma Jean Faglier, Avera, Jeanette Turner, Stapleton, and Lou Fleater Chalker, Gibson; several nieces and nephews; and friends, Brian and Kim Miller, Elleree, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Curtis Funeral Home.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William “Bill” Daley Tudor
Mr. William “Bill” Daley Tudor, 67, of Keysville entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the University Hospital, Augusta.

Mr. Tudor served his country retiring after 20 years from the U.S. Navy.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at 1 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ed Chance officiating. Interment followed at Keysville UMC Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myra Morgan Tudor and Hugh Eugene Tudor Sr.; and his sister, Vickie Arrington.

Survivors include his wife, Marjory Watts Tudor; children, James F. Rhinehardt (Donna) of Newton, N.C., Tina L. Borg (Edward) of Conyers, and Shelley J. Little; two brothers, Hugh Eugene Tudor Jr. (Faye) and Stephen Tudor (Vanessa); one sister, Valerie Sprouse (Larry); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Delma Williford Widener
Mrs. Delma Williford Widener, 72, of Thomson entered into rest on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2010, at the Thomson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Thomson.

A private graveside service with family will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Widener was a native of Glascock County and lived in McDuffie County for years.

Survivors include a grandson, Scott Newsome of Lincolnton; and four grandchildren; cousin and caretaker, Threesa Hood of Dearing; and other cousins.

Sheppard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Marjorie Joan Merriwether Simkins
Mrs. Marjorie Joan Merriwether Simpkins of Hephzibah entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, in Hephzibah.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Spears Grove Baptist Church in Wadley, with Rev. C.W. Stone officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Harris, Hephzibah; five sons, Aaron (Janice) Merriwether and Damian B. Simpkins, Hephzibah, James Merriwether, Brooklyn, N.Y., Marc (Candace) Dudley, Albany, N.Y., John (Tina) Dudley, Schenectady, N.Y.; two sisters, Brenda Merriwether, Greenville, S.C., and Cynthia (Paul) DeVires; two brothers, Reuben (Jennie) Merriwether, Tamarac, Fla., and Oscar (Monica) Manley, Bronx, N.Y.; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were her sons, Aaron Merriwether, James Merriwether, Marc Dudley and John Dudley; and Joe Lewis and Jayquane Harris.

Hudson Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fannie B. Windom
Mrs. Fannie B. Windom, 86, of Wrens entered into rest on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010, at Gibson Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born to the late Lillian Estelle Dukes Barrow and the late Henry Barney Barrow, Mrs. Windom was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was a member of Mt. Horeb Baptist Church where she served in various capacities including teaching Sunday School, VBS, WMU, etc. She was a 56 year breast cancer survivor and endured 21 surgeries in 23 years.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, with Rev. Paul Moore officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl W. Windom.

Survivors include her four children, Margaret Lott, Frances Griswell (James), Fred Windom, and Kenneth Windom (Rhonda); a sister, Mary B. Gay; nine grandchildren, Susan, David, Charles, Joy, Freddie, Jessi, Tina, Twyla and Christina; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandon, Jeremy, Ariel, Michael, Sammie, Rylee and Braxton; two great-great-grandchildren, Connor and Rachel; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Pallbearers were David Lott, Karl Keene, Charles May, Brandon May, Freddie Windom and Jason Dickerson.

Mrs. Peggy Adair Whites Thigpen
Mrs. Peggy Adair Whites Thigpen, 83, of Augusta entered into rest on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010, at Golden Living Center Nursing Home, Beverly Manor, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Thigpen was born Oct. 24, 1926, at Fort Eustis, Va. She is the daughter of the late Clarence Whites and Sadie Chappell Whites. Her primary work outside the home was acting as switch board operator at various locations which included Fort Greeley, Ark., The Levine Medical Center in Hayward, Calif., and the Oliver General Hospital in Augusta. She was a longtime member of First ARP Church in Augusta and former church historian. She was the past president of The Friendship Group for senior adults and a volunteer at the Georgia War Veteran’s Nursing Home.

Graveside services were conducted by Rev. Mark Taylor on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Westover Memorial Park.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, “Samuel” Seaborn Herman Thigpen of Avera.

Survivors include a daughter, JoAnn Pedersen (Rick) of Paso Robles, Calif.; son, Gary Wayne Thigpen (Leona) of Augusta; grandsons, SPC Scott Reynolds (Rebecca) U.S. Army, Afghanistan, and Corey Reynolds, Napa, Calif.; sister, Ruth Friend of Paso Robles, Calif.; nieces, Cathy Curti (Ciro) of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Patricia Friend of San Diego, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to Friendship United Methodist Church-Youth Building Fund c/o Friendship UMC 3027, Hephzibah, GA 30815.

Miss Elise “Bay” Walden
Miss Elise “Bay” Walden entered into rest on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2010, at her residence.

Miss Walden was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Tom Henry and Rose Mack Walden. She was a member of the Greater St. Paul Baptist Church.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Greater Saint Paul Baptist Church.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Rosetta Walden Lewis of Brunswick, Wanda Walden Coleman of Williston, S.C. and Major Charles (Laura) Gibbons of Louisville; several great-nieces and great-nephews, Tonya Barnes and Jonita Lewis of Brunswick, Javalyn R. Cole of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jonathan R. Cole of Williston, S.C., Edginald Gibbons, Wrens, Kenneth Gibbons and Charles Gibbons Jr. of Louisville; brother-in-law, James Eppings, Brunswick; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Billy “Pop” Wicker
Mr. Billy “Pop” Wicker, 69, of Wrens entered into rest on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at an Augusta hospital.

Mr. Wicker was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Alonzie Wicker and Mary Lizzie Gladden, a member of the Shiloh CME Church in Davisboro, and was employed at Atwell Pecan for the last 12 years.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at 3:30 p.m. at Magnolia Baptist Church and Cemetery, Avera.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dorothy Brown Wicker of Wrens; four sisters, Tressie Lee Kitchens, Mary Rolling and Mary Washington, all of Davisboro, and Lottie (Walter) Thomas of Bartow; four brothers, Leroy (Mary) Wicker of Avera, John (Bertha) Wicker of Bartow, Lewis Wicker of Davisboro, and Willie James Wicker of Lakeland, Fla.; a host of nieces and nephews, including two that he reared as his own, Annie E. (John) Brown of Lakeland, Fla., and Gwendolyn D. (Mike) Smith of Augusta; sister-in-law, Annie Maude Davis of Wadley; godchildren, Dejaun Barnes, Mozell Holiday, Callie Dunns and Deanna Lewis; and several cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Elizabeth “Libby” Sara West
Mrs. Elizabeth “Libby” Sara West, 94, of Waynesboro entered into rest on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at Brentwood Terrace.

Mrs. West was one of 12 children of the late Theodore and Mary Carey Weaver. She was a native of Pennsylvania and worked as a nanny for the McGettigan family. Mrs. West moved to Georgia 25 years ago after retiring.

Graveside services were held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera, with Pastor Mark Taylor and Pastor Dan White officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Henry West; and stepchildren, Charles West Jr., Annabelle West Pollock and Harry West.

Survivors include her sons, Thomas West of Augusta, Robert West (Laurie) of Wilmington, N.C., and James West (Janet) of Wilmington, N.C.; daughters, Betty Jane “B.J.” Reese (Vic) of Thomson, and Joyce Mawbry of Hughesville, Pa.; brother, Francis Weaver of Cleveland, Ohio; numerous nephews and nieces; grandchildren, Eric West of Wilmington, N.C., Philip West of Wilmington, N.C., Melodie Garverick Nixon of Evans, and Melissa Garverick Bodiford of Augusta; four great-grandchildren, Nicole Nixon, Charles Nixon, Sarah Nixon and Trevor Bodiford; stepchildren Lila Steffler of Secane, Pa., Russell West of Pennsylvania, and Edna West Barbacano of Elkton, Md.

Pallbearers were Eric West, Philip West, Sean Nixon, Brian Bodiford, Michael Barbacano and Norbert McGettigan Jr.
